Chapter
One:
Sunnydale:
Ever
since Angel gave Xander to Spike on Parent/Teacher night Xander had been having
dreams starring one bleached blonde menace.
Not that he’d ever act on those dreams mind. His friends would probably think he’d been
possessed, AGAIN. Xander fancied himself
a right coward when it came to Spike.
Not that he’d ever say that out loud and to the vampire’s face. Xander rubbed a hand over his face tiredly. His thoughts rampaging through his brain like
a herd of wild elephants. He sighed as
he got up to pace the length of his living room. Spike was out patrolling with the rest of the
Scooby gang. He should have been in bed
over an hour ago in order to be able to be up in time for work in the
morning. His eyes glanced at the clock
over the kitchen sink, right that plan went out the window half an hour ago
when his brain short-circuited and subsequently his thoughts went haywire
too. ‘Ugh! Need to sleep. Can’t sleep with the way my brain is at the
moment. Stupid brain,’ “Stupid fucking
DREAMS!”
“What
dreams pet?” Xander whirled around in
panic. Spike was leaning against the
doorjamb of the apartment door, unlit cigarette in hand.
“Spike?!” Xander groaned. I
fucking can’t believe I fucking SQUEAKED!
Spike’s scarred eyebrow raised in question. “Uhmm…no *gulp* no dreams. Nope, no dreams here.” Not now
at any rate. He sat down on the
couch then patted the seat next to him reluctantly.
Spike
had watched Xander pace and at random intervals talk to himself. Fuckin’
sexy when he gets upset like that, yum.
Spike wanted to slap himself silly.
He shook his head in denial of ever having those thoughts towards his
Xander. WHOA! Back up brain. He’s not my Xander.
Yes he is.
Sire gave him to you remember? He
belongs to you, always has since that night.
You just haven’t taken the offer [Insert sarcasm] after four fucking
years.
*Groan* I know
Sire gave him to me but he’s the Slayer’s White Knight. Can’t do that to him, not now anyway, too
much has happened in the last four years.
The Initiative and their fucking chip project, Glory and Buffy dying
then being brought back by Willow, Nibblet and her crush, me ending up with the
Poof as a ghostie, then getting my body back and finally coming back here to
sweet ole Sunnyhell. Too much has
happened to change us. Not fair to him.
…
Spike
sat down next to Xander on the couch. He
looked at Xander expectantly.
“Spike…I
know a lot has happened in the last four years since Parent/Teacher night back
in high school. I…I’ve been having these
dreams ever since Angel offered me to you.
I…*gulp*I love you.” Xander
blinked in shock, couldn’t look at Spike after that confession. He hadn’t wanted to tell that particular
secret in the first place. His mouth
opened and his tongue offered the words on a silver platter to the vampire
without his brain’s consent. Now all he
could do was wait and see what the blonde menace would do or say. He prepared himself for the rejection he just
knew was coming.
Spike
sat in shock for a total of ten seconds before grabbing Xander by the back of
the neck and dragging him to his own lips in a meeting of passion so intense it
left them both breathless afterwards.
Xander sat wide-eyed and shocked, trying to figure out what Spike’s
motives were or if he even had any.
“I
love you too Whelp. Have for awhile now,
since the Initiative thing happened and you took me in and treated me better
than the others ever had.” While he
spoke Spike ran his fingertips down Xander’s face lightly.
Xander’s
smile could have powered an entire New York City block for a month it was so
bright. Spike returned in kind.
“How
long Spike?”
“Wot?”
Xander
chuckled. Spike looks so cute when he’s confused. “How long have you loved me?”
Spike
didn’t even have to think about it.
“Since before Glory, after the Initiative when Giles kicked me out and
booted me to your place.” Spike was
grinning as he spoke, for once in his life happy to have someone love him for
him and not for something he could do for them.
“How long have you loved me?” He
sounded vulnerable, he hated being vulnerable but he couldn’t help it, the
Whelp brought it out of him since he was the first person besides Drusilla he
had truly loved in close to two centuries.
He could afford to be vulnerable.
((I know he already said something along these lines but…the characters
did it! Or it needed a better
explanation. Sorry for any confusion.))
Xander
smiled. Spike sounded so vulnerable, not
only sounded but looked it. “Since Angel
gave me to you at Parent/Teacher Night back in High School. No one else knew, Buffy, Willow and Giles,
even Cordy hadn’t figured it out and they were the ones I spent the most time
with.” Should’ve been easy for them to figure out if they had even bothered to
try. Xander’s smile never faltered
though his heart, featherweight light mere seconds ago, had the added weight of
a small pebble.
Spike
nodded his understanding.
Tell him. He
deserves to know of her.
I can’t. A promise made cannot a promise broken.
What the bloody hell is that supposed to mean?
It means I can’t
due to me making a promise to the Poof about her.
Mates and family members are excluded from such a
promise. You know this.
*Sigh* Aye I
know. But we ain’t Mates right yet.
*Rolls eyes* That can be fixed you pillock!
*Growl* Shut it now
before he thinks I’ve gone completely mental.
Too late for that I’m afraid.
“Spike?! You okay?
I’ve been calling your name for like two minutes now.
“Nothing’s
wrong Pet. Just thinking about something
you should know but I can’t tell you quite yet, okay?” Spike was worried though he knew he probably
shouldn’t have been worried. He couldn’t
help it. He didn’t like being
vulnerable, look at his Sire, and that question made him as vulnerable as he’d
ever been since the chip incident.
“As
long as I’m told at some point in the future, I’m okay with it.” Xander smiled.

Los
Angeles:
Angel walked through the halls of the Hyperion; paced would be a better term he thought
with derision. As he neared the lobby of
the old hotel he could hear Cordelia’s voice as she spoke with a potential
client.
“Could you spell that please? Yes ma’am.
I’m sure someone will be by to check it out in a day or two. We’re kind of swamped with a few ongoing
cases right now. Yes ma’am I realize
you’re in need of help due to your hopeless situation but two days is the max
waiting time for new cases at the moment.
Should anything happen to free up time I’ll send someone right
over. Of course ma’am I’ll see to
it. Have a good night and thank you for
calling Angel Investigations.”
“Take it a disgruntled client?” Angel asked as Cordelia hung up the
phone. She glanced up at him before
continuing to type information into the computer.
“No mister. A
potential client saying some bluish-green colored demon with gold horns walked
into her house and then began ransacking the place. Poor woman, she had no idea what the demon
was looking for.”
Angel made a noncommittal noise as he walked by her
and into his office. He found a package
wrapped in cardboard colored paper with little bats drawn all over it. Angel couldn’t help the grin that covered his
face. Our daughter seems to like making
you smile with immaturity every month.
So
we finally agree on who to love?
Only
when it comes to family do we ever agree on whom to love. You need better choices when it comes to your
lovers. The demon admonished.
Angelus,
in order to make her happy I think we need to merge, my soul and you, the
demon. She needs her father now, and the
soul and the demon are both her father.
She needs us.
I
agree with you Angel. I believe we’ll
need a few days until we get settled.
Angel unwrapped the package with a smile the whole
time. Seems she likes to give us gag gifts.
No answer from the demon.
Angel pulled out three pints of blood attached
together with surgical tape and a note adorning the small gift.
Papa
–
I
know how much you just hate eating human blood so I was hoping you would try
this specially formulated blood I created just for you. It is part my blood, horse blood (only
thoroughbred blood mind), and some other components you will most likely figure
out on your own while you ingest it.
It’ll help you in the long run.
Keep you healthy too. Only have
FOUR OUNCES every other day for two weeks.
If there is any left over after those two weeks, then ONE ounce every 12
hours until it’s all gone. It’s for your
own good Papa. Oh yeah almost forgot,
you can keep drinking that god-awful pig’s blood while on your medicine and yes
it is a type of medicine which you WILL take with no complaints. [Insert glare here.] [Insert grin here.]
The
other things included in your monthly package well I’m sure you can figure out
why I sent them and what they are.
With
all the love of a daughter,
Dragon
P.S. I will be calling to make sure you are
following directions. If you don’t it
could cause you more harm than good.
And with that last full sentence in his mind, Angel
ripped into the rest of the package coming back out with six pairs of black
Cashmere socks, and a leather bound vellum filled journal with the Green Man
embossed on the front cover. Tied to the
journal was a black pigment filled inkwell and a manual calligraphy pen
complete with nibs. Another small
package was on the bottom of the box.
Angel was shocked speechless at what he held in his hand. A photo
album, she sent a photo album?
Angel began to flip
through the album. As he looked through
the pictures he took note of every feature of his daughter’s face as she grew
up. He sighed realizing he was trying to
make up for not being around while she was growing up. At a knock at the door he looked up and
smiled at Wesley.
“Hey.”
“Hey.”
“Who’s that from?” Wesley asked as he leaned against the
doorjamb. Angel smiled a little more.
“It’s from someone
really important to me.” Angel said
closing the photo album as Wesley walked further into the room. In answer to Wesley’s raised eyebrow Angel
said, “I’m not telling you right now Wes.
That kind of knowledge could cause a lot of harm and do a lot of damage
should the information get into the wrong hands. I just can’t tell you guys right now
Wes. Okay?” Angel’s eyes pleaded with Wesley to drop the
topic.
Wesley nodded. “Okay Angel.
Just be sure to tell us sooner or later.” Wesley patted Angel on the shoulder only to
get pulled into a pair of strong arms.
Wesley couldn’t help the gasp that fell past his lips as he was crushed
against a hard cloth covered chest. He
looked up into warm dark eyes and couldn’t help the shiver that ran down his
spine, not in fear but in arousal.
With every word he
spoke Angel’s lips brushed across Wesley’s, like the wings of a butterfly
brushing against bare skin. “I will tell
you Wes and soon. I just need to let
Spike know he can tell too. Besides, we
like you Wes, the demon and soul like you.”
At the look of fear that flitted across Wes’s face, Angel chuckled
lightly. “No worries Wes. Angelus and I will be merging as soon as the
last case is finished. When we do, we’re
going to need a few days to recuperate and get our strength back.” With that said Angel crushed their lips
together in a soul searing kiss that left Wes’s knees weak and wanting
more. As Wes needed to breathe Angel’s
lips left his to trail little nips and kisses across his jaw to his ear where
he took the lobe into his mouth. Angel
grinned at the moan that fell from Wes’s lips.
After releasing the lobe Angel pulled back to just look at the man he
held in his arms. Wes’s eyes were glazed
and dark with lust, his panting breaths tasting of coffee and chocolate. A small smile graced Angel’s face.
Don’t get too much more
content Angel, the demon warned. We don’t need me to get out of this cage
before we’re ready to merge in a couple days’ time.
Angel didn’t
answer. There was no need for him to
answer.
“Dad?” Connor.
Angel let go of Wes
reluctantly. Wes’s eyes lost the glazed
lust look as soon as Connor’s voice broke the silence after the kiss. Do I
like him like that? Wes was
confused, but knew in his heart that he loved Angel. Not
that I can tell him that quite yet.
Angel may like me but I doubt highly Angelus would agree with him. Wes’s sad thoughts were cut short when Connor
walked through the door of the office.
“Dad, Cordelia says
we’re needed someplace. Gunn and Fred are
already on their way.” Connor looked
confused for a moment before he asked, “What’s going on?”
Angel and Wes looked at
each other and back at Connor in sync but it was Angel who answered. “Nothing.
We’ll be there in a few minutes, Connor.” Connor nodded before walking back out the
door.
After Connor left Angel
turned to Wes and sighed at the sad look in his eyes. He sought to fix the mistake he made, though
he knew not the mistake. “Wes, it’s not
that I’m ashamed of you, I just don’t feel comfortable letting anyone know
right yet, at least not until Angelus and I merge, understand?” Angel tried for soothing, he really did, he
just wasn’t sure if he was succeeding in that department.
“I understand. And I feel the same way. It’s just that I’m not sure how I feel about
you, me, this whole thing, at least not quite yet.” Angel nodded his understanding.
“Let’s go before they
send a search party or something.”
Wesley’s laugh lifted Angel’s heart just that little bit more and
Angelus was finally quiet.
###
Somewhere in Northern Montana:
The wind whistled through the trees as the person
moved through the shadowy undergrowth.
Filtered sunlight glittered across blood red hair and shiny black
leather. Honey-amber eyes searched for
any movement. When none was forthcoming
the person moved out from their hiding place, only to get bowled over by a
bluish-green body with glittering golden horns.
“What the bloody hell?!” the person exclaimed once
they stopped rolling across the ground.
The bluish-green body just groaned.
“Hey, you okay? You hurt
anywhere?”
“Coma, ne sentrai nii houman.” Non-English
speaking demon, okkkkkay you can handle this,
the person in leather thought dryly.
“I’m sorry but I don’t understand.” The demon nodded.
“I said, ‘Yes I’m okay but I need help.” The demon looked deathly afraid of being
turned down or worse having someone fear it.
The person in leather nodded in understanding. “I’ll help you if you’ll let me. My name is Dragon and you are?”
“I am Shrasta of the Nagra. The help is not for me but for my family.”
“Lead the way.”
Dragon followed the Nagra as he walked back towards
the way he came. As the two people
walked through the forest, the sun filtered through the trees, the only noise
being the sound of the animals. Every
couple minutes she would look over at the demon, trying to figure out what to
do about the demon- no- man, definitely man.
He seemed to be determined about something. She just couldn’t think what it could
be. Then they were stepping into a clearing
at the bottom of a mountain. In the
clearing there were a bunch of bluish-green demons ranging in size and she
guessed the difference in sizes meant the demons- no- people- were different
ages. They all looked afraid and there
was a sweet tang on the air, blood.
Dragon’s eyes widened in horror.
One of them or possibly more was hurt or worse! She looked around frantically for the cause
of the scent of blood but couldn’t outright see the cause. None of them looked as if they had taken any
harm but she learned a long time ago looks had a way of being false or worse, a
kind of half lie. Yeah not like I know what that is like.
The thought was sarcastic but nonetheless true.
“What happened?”
Dragon’s voice was little more than a whisper. She was deathly afraid of the answer she felt
coming.
“My family was attacked while I was out hunting,” the
man continued at her raised eyebrow, “for food.”
“By what would be the question, yes?” she asked going into what her friends would
call her ‘gather information’ mode. A
round of nods was the answer to her question.
She began to walk the perimeter of the clearing, trying to catch the
scent of whatever had done the damage to the family. She took note of the family’s combined and
independent scents, making sure to sift the family’s scents out from the other
scents in the vicinity.
This went on for some time, all the while getting
closer to the very middle of the clearing, until a peculiar scent caught her
attention. She stopped, taking in deeper
and deeper breaths until the scent triggered a memory.
**Flashback**
“But…Dad! That’s not fair!” A younger version of Dragon exclaimed. This version of her looked to be about ten
years old if that she was so small.
A
man with dark hair turned around to look at the young girl. “Dragon Nikol Aurelius,” the man growled in
that tone of voice that warns a child he or she is about to overstep some
hidden boundary or other. “I know you
believe it’s not fair but I’m afraid there’s no help for it. You’re going to go to school in Salem,
Massachusetts and that’s final. You’ll
come home for holidays and the summer of course. I and maybe a few other people will see you
for your birthday here soon enough. You
don’t need to worry so much.” The man
grinned.
“Dad,
I’m not worried. I just don’t want to go
to school in stupid Salem, Massachusetts.
Is it some sort of boarding school then?
I didn’t think there were any in the States.”
“Normally
there isn’t but this is a school for extremely gifted students from all over
the country. Now you are an extremely
smart girl so you will be attending.”
The man watched as his charge pouted.
“Fine
I’ll go.”
**End
Flashback**
Dragon’s eyes widened in horror as understanding
dawned in the depths. She turned to the
family. “Was it a man or a beast that
attacked you?” Her voice was soft but it
was tinged in pain of long ago sorrows.
What Dragon thought was the mother answered with one
word, “Man.”
The pain ripped through her heart and swirled
through her body at that answer. She
gasped at the intensity of pain pouring off of those in front of her and also
from herself. She felt tears gathering
in the corners of her eyes. You will pay one day old man and dearly for
all the pain you have caused. Pray you
never appear on my radar screen for then nothing and no one will be able to
save your sorry hide. She blinked,
hard, a couple times to clear the tears before she turned back to the family.
“*sigh* I’m afraid you’ll have to come with me. I know a place, far from here, where you can
stay and rest easy for a couple days at the least. Do you have transportation? If not, I can help in that department.” She could have smacked herself upside the
head for that. What would big brother say if he ever found out? He’d laugh is what he’d do.
Shrasta answered for the family. “We don’t have human transportation…but our
transportation no longer works.” She
nodded in understanding.
“Alright, guess you guys can hitch a ride with me
and mine. We travel in what’s called a
caravan of sorts, um…a number of vehicles in a long line or in a group. Um…so um…follow me and we’ll see about
getting you sorted.” She turned and
started walking back the way they, Shrasta and herself, came, knowing they
would follow.
“If I may ask, where are we going?”
She looked over her shoulder and said one word,
“LA.”

I’m
sorry if the story seems a little weird at first but I have to get the
