OF WERES AND HUNTERS
PG13 to NC17
Buffy the Vampire Slayer characters belong to Joss Whedon and Mutant Enemy. All original characters belong to me. I am making no money by posting this or any other story and mean no offense.
Leaning into the shadows of a tree a striking woman dressed head to toe in black leather; pants, vest, duster and boots whispers softly, “Shadows wrap to dull the senses of mine enemy.” Feeling the spell ripple around her the stranger to not only this small town but to the entire country as well watches silently as two humans come running into the cemetery hot on the heels of several vampires. Eyes narrowing as she observes the events unfolding before her the shadow-wrapped woman smirks softly seeing the dark creatures turn ready to battle the small human…women.
No longer in the mood to banter with the last four vamps left of a large nest she and Faith had destroyed Buffy simply launches herself into a spin kick that throws the one on her right several feet into a tree before facing off with the other on her left.
Shaking her head Faith takes on both of her’s at the same time with a split kick and a few well placed punches calling out to her sister-Slayer, “Ya’ know B, you could give him a little more than that. I mean what happened to all your witty comments, girlfriend?”
Staking the vamp she is weary of trading blows with before turning back to the first who is back on his feet and making his way back toward her, Buffy responds, “Well F, I guess I lost my ability to banter with the undead somewhere between vamp number 8 and vamp number 12, but if you still got yours then lets hear it, sister.”
Circling the shaken vamp as he stops in front of her Buffy pauses in mid-step as Faith suddenly says, “Dust in the wind!” staking her last vamp. Looking at the vamp as he looks back at her Buffy bursts out laughing uproariously along with the vamp even as Faith stands back with a crestfallen look on her face grumbling, “Was a good one.”
Leaning into each other the blonde Slayer and the hysterical vamp stand hiccupping and with tears streaming from her eyes, Buffy gasps out, “Oh, oh god – dust in the wind…” causing the vamp to howl his great amusement once more before she straightens to plunge her trusty stake into his chest. Holding his disbelieving eyes before he crumbles to dust himself Buffy growls, “I always did like that song.” and she turns to Faith with a smirk.
Dusting herself off the dark slayer says, “Ya’ know B, you could be a little nicer to me. I mean hell, I try my damnedest and you still gotta crack on me. What’s up with that, girlfriend?” but the older slayer doesn’t answer as she has her eyes trained on the large elm tree they ran past before fighting the vamps. Rolling her eyes at her blonde counterpart Faith drawls, “Hello Blondie…talking to ya’ here.”
Shushing her friend with a wave of her hand Buffy points to the tree and as Faith turns to look it seems to waver slightly before a black-clad woman steps from beside it almost seeming to just appear out of the shadows. Eyebrows rising in wary interest Faith casts a glance at Buffy as the strange woman speaks in a smoky voice, “Slayers, I am Adara, Dark Hunter of the Devonshire Clan. I come to you for help.”
Eyes narrowing suspiciously Buffy asks, “Uh-huh and what the hell is a Dark Hunter?” as she looks the beautiful woman up and down trying to gage her strengths and weaknesses just on appearance alone.
Faith steps up beside her to say, “Adara, daughter of Marah, daughter of Larena – hereditary hunters of vamps, demons, dark witches and wizards. All-around kickass type ladies that they are or have been they’ll take on just about any task in dealing with dark forces as long as it doesn’t include harming werewolves since their males are weres.”
Gaping at her not-so-typically-in-the-know friend Buffy snaps her mouth shut as Adara steps forward to bow her head at Faith saying respectfully, “You are learned young Slayer. I am honored to meet you.” and Faith simply shrugs her shoulders saying, “Yeah well, um – thanks. It was just something I read…with my old Watcher.”
Shaking her head at this little twist of circumstances Buffy finally says, “Ok, um – right, Adara, why don’t you tell us what you need our help with and we’ll see what we can do, hmm?”
Glancing around the darkened park the tall woman says, “No, not here where the dark resides so strongly. Is there a place of light we can go to?” and Faith smiles knowingly at Buffy saying, “Oh yeah, know just the place.”
Returning the smile Buffy asks, “Mom’s?” as the dark slayer nods happily saying, “Yup, she said she would leave us brownies B – and I’m wicked hungry. Plus, it’s bright, safe and we can have Giles and the Scoobs meet us there, right?”
Buffy nods at her friend as they exit the park before leading the way back toward Revello drive leaving Faith to take up the rear behind Adara, instinctually the slayers fall into a protective mode around their guest.
Smiling her appreciation of their protective nature the Hunter can not help but be amused slightly, knowing she is more than able to protect herself but follows Buffy asking, “Might I inquire as to who this Giles person is and what are scoobs?”

Chuckling softly from behind the taller woman Faith tells her, “Giles is our Watcher-dude and the Scoobs are actually a group of our friends who help with research and such. The name is really the Scoobies in reference to a pulp culture cartoon wherein the “Scoobies” solved mysteries.”
Buffy just nods absently while glancing back over her shoulder before slowing her pace to drop back beside Adara, whispering to Faith, “Got something on our tail. Not a vamp, but feels…off somehow. Faith you gettin’ it?”
Opening her senses more the dark slayer feels a definite presence stalking them and catches something she has only felt once before, that being when she has been around their buddy, Oz – who just happens to be a werewolf and she whispers back, “Were, just one and he’s young .”
Stopping short as Adara spins around on her heel Faith’s eyebrows jump hearing the Hunter growl, “Darkness shatter, all be seen!”
Watching as the tall woman storms toward a row of low hedges at the corner of the street they had just turned from onto Revello Drive, the Slayers gaze at the soft glow surrounding the once shadowed area where stands a young boy shrinking back from the angry woman coming toward him.
Growling softly Adara grates, “Damn it all to Hades, Mikel! You are not to be here! What if They were to see you, you little mutt?!” even as she reaches for him with open arms her fright for the boy evident now along with her anger.
Whimpering much like a scolded dog the were-boy whines, “But Addy, I want to come too. I never get to help you.” and throws himself into her arms burying his face in her side as she shushes him saying, “Oh, child what mother will say I don’t want to know.”
Rocking the softly sobbing boy in her arms gently Adara turns to the two Slayers explaining, “This is my youngest brother, Mikel. He is to be a home with the rest of our clan and I am sure our mother is in a state with him missing.”
Shaking their heads in bemusement both Slayers simply shrug before continuing on toward Buffy’s house now with not one but two guests to learn about and Faith thinks to herself, “Just another day in the life of a Slayer.” having a feeling this is actually the start to something big.
