Chapter 1
So this is life after
the hell mouth, Ella Anderson thought sarcastically as she stood in the
elevator. It had been nineteen days since Sunnydale went from a small town in California to a giant
crater. It was a weird thing going from major epic battle to living the every
day life. It was practically impossible to act like she didn’t see her friends
die at the hands of true evil or that she didn’t relive the whole thing in her
dreams night after night. All the faking takes a harsh toll on a person’s being
and she was the poster child for it. She was grateful for Buffy to share the
power of being a slayer during the battle and she was all prepared to be a
slayer. It had been the epic battle of the very FIRST evil that she hadn’t
ready for, though it didn’t matter anymore. It was over and she was one of the
few survivors left on that bus.
She let out a harsh breath before rubbing her face. Life
didn’t stop because the she and her fellow potential slayers saved the world. The
world and those in it, went on unaware what she did nightly for them or how
special she really was. To everyone that looked at her, she was just a normal
woman fixing the technology with the best of her abilities, even if she didn’t
know everything little thing about the subject. None of them aware of the power
she had or how she helped people. She was a vampire slayer. She helped the
helpless or so she thought until they told her to just go on with life and
forget about slaying all together.
Buffy didn’t think she needed training, she put it. But the
truth was Buffy didn’t think she was the right person to slay vampires. It made
her scuff. She wasn’t right for the normal everyday slaying gig thing but she had
been right for the big epic battle to stop the end of the world. It didn’t make
sense and it insulted her. So they shipped her off to Angel. Buffy’s one time
love. He brooded more then a marble statue. From what she heard about him, he
wasn’t exactly the greatest person to start off with. He was conceded and very
quick to judge.
The elevator doors dinged opened to the CEO floor of the
Wolfram and Heart building. A chaos of
people walking all over the place with their folders in their hands and phones
to their ears, while their assistants took down notes, it seems almost overwhelming
for her. She never had seen a corporation function like this in her life. It
was almost like a zoo or a street taken out of New York. She wondered if the place ever saw
a calm moment then she remembered it was the home of evil and evil never rested.
She knew that the hard way.
She pushed the black leather jacket she was wearing back on
her shoulder. A good friend got it for her. Well stole would be the more
appropriate word but it had been under difficult circumstances. She couldn’t
exactly buy it if the store owner had fled with many other Sunnydale
residences. It was one of the few treasures she had left.
Ella walked off the elevator before the doors could close on
her and her wondering thoughts of the past. She was now working for the top corporation
of evil. Everyone that walked on that floor was the true example for evil.
Well, almost everyone.
She walked up to the secretary’s desk to sign in for her
appointment with the big brooding one himself, Angel. The first love for Buffy
and the enemy of Spike, it was almost poetic. Two vampires with a soul and both
of them loved Buffy. Now, only one remained, and it wasn’t the one, she was
rooting for.
William, the bloody or better known as Spike had been one of
the coolest guys she had ever met. He was charming and good looking with his
platinum blonde hair accenting his piercing deep pools of sea blue eyes. The
British accent didn’t hurt either. There was something more about his essence
just gave off the feel of “Bad boy with good heart” that made her really have a
school girl crush on him. He proved it right when he was comforting Buffy the
night before the big battle. She wasn’t actually there but she did hear them
talking and found it so sweet. Just the thought of that made her miss him so much
more. He was so good to Buffy. He was so good to her. Out of all of the
potentials, he only seemed to reach out to her. She never knew why but then
again, she never asked. She was afraid of the answer. Over the course of only a
few months, they grew a friendship. A friendship she missed since the day he
died.
When Buffy told her, that Spike gave up his life for
everyone and became the champion, it touched her deeply. He had done something
so courageous but paid a very painful price. He had burned alive from his
inside out. It horrified. It haunted her thoughts and her dreams. In some ways,
she wished she could have stopped him. But he had to save the world and be the
big hero. She felt both honored and sickened. If only she could have him back
into her life.
“Can I help you?” a bubbly blonde said behind the desk.
Ella looked at her and swore she thought she seen her before
but couldn’t place her. She mentally shrugged it off. There were more important
things to figure out and discuss.
“Yes, I’m here to see Angel,” Ella replied.
“He’s currently in a meeting with his head people, if you
can wait just a mo…”
A loud scream could be heard from Angel’s Office that caught
everyone’s attention. Ella rose her eyebrow at the blonde before going to the
adjure door to see the issue. Her heart stopped the moment she walked into that
room. It was impossible. No, no, he couldn’t…he just couldn’t.
“Spike,” A deep male’s voice said.
“What…What” Spike sputtered
“Spike? The
Spike?” A bald headed man said with interest.
“Wait a minute. Who’s…”A brunette started but a green guy
cut her off.
“Easy, Slim. Easy. No one’s going to hurt you.” A green man
with horns said.
The bald man stepped in countering in a threatening way. It
was causing more confusion and making an all ready uneasy situation worse. A
British guy that reminded her of Giles in formed the brunette about Spike and
how he was almost as bad as Angelus or Angel. To make the situation worse,
Angel taunted Spike about him being dead.
“What? What’s happened to me!” Spike basically screamed.
He lunged himself at Angel but Angel moved before Spike
could cause him to fall straight into Angel’s desk and knocking a few nick
knacks off. He looked at Angel with his angry intense yellow eyes.
“What have you done to me? What is this place?! Who are you
people? What the bloody hell is happening?” Spike blamed.
Spike looked so disoriented. He looked like he was just told
he was going to die, except he all ready did. She walked further in the room as
people around her talked about him and causing him to be more agitated. She had
to admit, death didn’t change him. He still had his bleached hair and his eyes
were still so blue. She just wondered if he was the Spike that she knew.
“Oh my god,” Ella thought out loud.
It made her presences known and everyone was staring at her
with both confusing and curiosity of whom she was. There was only one person at the moment that
held true knowledge of who she was and he was standing there staring at her
with pure amazement. The confusion melted from his face and relief seemed to
take its place. Her being there had to make things a bit easier on him then
standing in a group of people he didn’t know and the one person he loathed. It
made her feel better knowing she could help him. Maybe the ‘powers that be’
brought her here for a reason. They wanted her to be here to and walk to him to
help him back .Of course it could all be a coincidence.
“What? How? What the bloody hell are you doing here, pet?”
Spike asked meeting her halfway.
She smirked at his British cursing. Death didn’t make him stumble one bit and she
was never happier. She gave him a half shrug before he scooped her up in a hug
with a happy laugh.
“Who are you?” Angel asked as Spike put her Ella down.
“I’m Ella Anderson, a vampire slayer,” Ella answered simply.
Buffy had warned her of telling people she was a slayer but
since the building was crawling with demons and had a Vampire as the CEO, she
didn’t think it would be a big deal. It seemed that she was wrong.
“You can’t be a slayer if Buffy is alive,” Angel
contradicted.
“Buffy! Is she...” Spike started but Angel cut him off.
“She’s ok. Europe last I
heard,” Angel answered sharply. “But that is off the topic of how Ella is a
slayer.”
Ella raised her eyebrow at Angel a bit confused then glanced
over at her peroxide blonde buddy.
“Buffy made me a slayer,” Ella answered slowly. “She turned
every girl that had a possibility into a slayer. Didn’t you know that?”
Angel stared at her with a blank face. He looked almost
brain dead. It made her giggle a little bit but she decided not to say anything
more. This was enough for now.
“That doesn’t answer the question why you are here,” Angel
reminded.
Ella gave a cocky smirk and put her hand on her hip.
“You’re looking at the head of the technology department. Now point me to my
office,” Ella said confidently.
