Assignment:
Characters/Pairings you want: Buffy/Angel or Buffy/Angel/Wes
Characters/Pairings you want in the story too: Faith, Dawn (not together)
Things you want.: Post-Not Fade Away. If you go with canon and Wes is dead, I'd like a flashback to Buffy/Angel/Wes. I would like the story to include: Angel is still a vampire (no Shanshu), a good fight scene against a baddie, mention of what the Scoobies have been doing since Chosen.
Things you don't want: characters, pairings, angst, fluff... No angst other than if it necessary to miss Wesley
Extras: highest rating, genre... R to NC-17
Title: The Details
Author: Maren
Rating: NC-17
Pairing(s): B/A/Wes
Author Note: This takes place in an alternate post-Not Fade Away. Wes does not die; Angel grows a brain and gets Buffy’s help in the big NFA battle. This is two years after that battle.
Author Note 2: The requestor said no angst. To me, this is a story that calls for a long, angsty plot to explain how this could happen. So consider this story the fluffy epilogue to an as yet unwritten long,
angst-filled drama that really explains *how* this relationship happened.

The Details
The shrill sound of a ringing phone cut through the silence of the dark bedroom. Buffy groaned and burrowed her head further into the chest it was resting on, trying to get away from the obnoxious sound. When it rang a second time, she rolled over and tried to block out the sounds again, this time with a different chest.
“Angel, will you answer the damn phone before she gives me a bloody nose with all of this flouncing about?” Wes rumbled as he pulled her closer to him and kissed the top of her head.
He didn’t need night vision to see the glare that comment earned him, but the next ring of the phone was blissfully cut off shortly after it began.
“Hello,” Angel grunted, the sheets slipping down to pool around his hips as he slowly sat up. His
body quickly became rigid and alert as he listened to the caller.
“Slow down, Dawn. I can’t understand you. What’s wrong?” he said, his voice smooth and calming.
At the sound of her sister’s name, Buffy whipped her head back around to look at Angel. Then she
was sitting up and reaching for the phone, her eyes wide as she searched his face for information on why Dawn was calling at this time in the morning. Wesley shifted closer and placed a hand on her hip in a gesture of support.
“You’re going to be okay Dawn. Buffy’s right here,” Angel soothed before handing the phone to Buffy. He smoothed her hair back from her face and tucked it behind her ear with a few gentle strokes as he tried to silently reassure her that her sister was all right.
“Dawn! What happened, are you o.k.?” she asked as she twisted the sheets with her free hand. The panicked look slowly left her face as she listened to her sister. “Oh Dawnie, I’m so sorry honey. ..yes, of course you can come back home . . . it doesn’t matter how much it costs, we’ll . . . don’t cry Dawnie. . .no, really, Angel won’t mind just put it on the credit card. . . everything is going to be all right honey, just come home and let me take care of you. . .o.k., call me back when you have the flight information and I’ll come pick you up. I’m so sorry, sweetheart; really I am . . . o.k., bye.”
Buffy pushed the off button on the cordless phone and handed it back to Angel. Wesley sat up and pulled her into his lap as Angel turned and placed the phone in its cradle.
“What’s going on?” Wes murmured, concern creasing his brow. When she didn’t immediately answer, he turned his gaze to Angel. The vampire shook his head, and then leaned forward to kiss Buffy softly on the mouth. She relaxed into the kiss and settled back against Wesley’s chest, murmuring softly as Wes placed light kisses across her shoulder.
Angel pulled away and Buffy sighed. “My baby sister is hurting. I mean, physically, she’s fine, but her heart is broken,” she finally answered. “She’s coming home as soon as she can get on a flight.”
Buffy turned her head and kissed Wes lightly before turning back to kiss Angel. Then she let her body go limp as she fell over sideways until her head hit the mattress.
“Her poor heart is broken and I’m worried about what she’s going to think about our little living arrangement. I guess we’re going to have to let the black cat out of the kettle and tell people about . . . us,” she said, her eyes shifting between the two naked men in her bed. A pout frown began to work its way across her face when she noticed the twin smirks that crossed Wes and Angel’s faces as they shared a look.
“What?”
“Nothing,” Angel said with a smile.
“Shall I put Buffy-speak on the languages portion of my resume?” Wes asked. “It is a particularly challenging language to learn, what with the words that aren’t and the creative mixed metaphors.”
Angel laughed, and then barely got out of the way of the flying pillow that was aimed at his head.
“I was woken out of a very sound, very satisfying sleep by my baby sister’s crying voice and you two think it’s a good time to make fun of the way I talk? The couch might be a little small for both of you, but it’s looking like you just might have to give it a try anyway,” Buffy warned, raising her eyebrows and nodding toward the living area.
Angel’s smile faded into a feral grin as he leaned back on his elbow. “And who’s going to make us? You?”
“I think between the two of us we may be able to subdue you,” Wes drawled, picking up where Angel left off.
Buffy looked at both of them and swallowed in nervous anticipation at the look on each of their faces. She absolutely loved it when they ganged up on her. Using the tip of her tongue, she slowly wet her lips before flashing them a smile.
True, her little sister was going through a crisis, and true, she was worried about having to tell everyone about her love life, but as long as she was awake. . .
“I’d like to see you try.”
***********
Evil had a way of persevering, even in the face of non-apocalyptic family problems. Evil didn’t care at all that the warriors for good had other plans. The next night the trio found themselves fighting yet another group of demons to the death, despite their initial plan to stay in and decide the best way to break the news of their relationship to their friends and families. It was business as usual.
“Angel! Behind you!” Buffy shouted, her attention momentarily drawn away from the two reptile-skinned Javesh soldiers she was fighting. Out of the corner of her eye she could see the Queen silently advancing on Angel’s unprotected back.
She was punished for her distraction when one of the demons flicked its long, forked, razor-sharp tongue in her direction. Throwing up her left arm just in time to block a lethal cut to her neck, Buffy hissed in pain as the tongue sliced through the skin and muscle of her forearm instead.
“Big mistake, toad-boy,” she warned the approaching Javesh demon. “First I’m gonna kick your ass, then I’m gonna go take out your Queen. Mama needs a new pair of demon shoes.”
“Buffy, please stop taunting the demons and kill them,” Wesley rasped out, his sword cutting through the thick sinuous neck of one of the enemies. He was quickly becoming tired and had only narrowly missed being disemboweled by the striking tongue of another soldier. He looked down at his goo-coated sword and snorted in derision. If he only had been able to bring his new 9mm Beretta. . . but Angel still refused to let him bring guns to the fights after he had *accidentally* shot the vampire during a confrontation with some Kandashi. . .
The advancing reptiles effectively cut off his thoughts, and Wesley went to work holding back the remaining demons while Angel and Buffy fought their Queen.
The Queen was . . . well . . . queen size. The imposing demon towered over Angel by at least two feet and was protected by a thick armor of scaled skin. Buffy and Angel were stalking her now, careful to avoid her sharp, poisonous tongue. The warriors moved in perfect synchronicity, each knowing precisely where the other was without looking.
Then they were striking as one, attacking the large, powerful demon from opposite sides and dividing her attention so that she couldn’t concentrate her attack on one without risking death from the other. Angel thrust his broadsword into her side, pulling it out with one great heave and splattering the ground with her electric green blood.
The Queen screamed in anger and pain, and the remains of her legion screamed with her. The sound was deafening. Angel spared a glance at Buffy, trying to make sure she was okay.
The Queen took the opportunity to swipe at Angel, her tongue whipping out with alarming force as it aimed itself at his neck. Just before it reached its target, a sloppy *swack* of sound joined the screams as the Queen’s tongue was severed in half by one quick swing of Buffy’s axe.
They watched as the forked end dropped to the ground, and instead of lying still, began to slither back toward the Queen in an attempt to reattach itself.
“Neat trick. . .” Buffy mumbled, a shudder going through her, before she took a run at the wall, and quickly running up it and flipping over, used her added height and momentum to sever the demon’s head in mid-air. At the same moment, Angel ran his sword through the Queen’s heart.
As the large demon crumpled to the ground, the soldier that Wesley had been fighting cried out in pain. With one last swing of his tired sword arm, Wes sliced through the demon and sagged against the wall as he watched it melt into a puddle in front of him.
“One more marauding band of post-Apocalypse demons we can cross off of the list,” Wes commented, moving toward the opening of the caverns where they had tracked the nest. They had spent the last two years dealing with the fallout from the battle against the Senior Partners, hunting and killing the demons who had been stuck in this world when the dimensional tear was finally closed by Illyria and Willow’s combined strength and magic.
“Only, oh, about a million to go,” Buffy responded as she followed him out. She was stopped by a hand on her shoulder.
“Buffy, you’re hurt,” Angel said, concern lacing his voice as he visually assessed her body and finally settled on her bleeding forearm. “Let’s get back to the hotel, get that cleaned up.”
Buffy flashed him a look of irritation. “No kidding? Thank you, Dr. Angel, for your insightful medical opinion. After all these years of slaying, I’ve just never quite figured out what to do about the pesky wounds all on my lonesome.”
At the hurt that passed over his features, she paused and reached out a hand to touch his cheek. “I’m sorry. . . I’m just worried about Dawn. I don’t mean to take it out on you.”
He turned his face into her hand and kissed her palm. “I know. Try not to worry, Buffy. She’s a Summers girl, she’ll be fine.”
She snorted in response, and gave him an incredulous look. “Is that supposed to be some kind of back-handed compliment? I was able to handle my boyfriends leaving me for greener pastures, so she will too?” Buffy turned away from him and stalked toward the car.
It was Angel’s turn to look irritated. “You know that’s not what I meant,” he growled from right behind her.
Wes stood against the car, tapping his foot in irritation. Buffy had been touchy ever since the phone call from Dawn, and despite his reputation for quiet broodiness, Angel couldn’t stop sticking his rather large sized foot in his mouth. “If you two are quite finished bickering, I’d like to get home and get cleaned up,” he said, raising an eyebrow when Angel opened his mouth to protest and then nodding as the vampire closed it again with a scowl.
“Angel thinks Dawn will handle things as well as I did when he left me. Golly, I sure hope she follows Xander up with a string of highly unsuccessful relationships just like her big sis,” Buffy fumed to Wes as she slid into the back seat of the convertible.
“Buffy, that’s not what I meant and you know it,” Angel retorted as defied her obvious attempt at sitting alone and leapt into the back next to her. “I just meant that Dawn is more resilient than you give her credit for.”
“Well, thank goodness you don’t think it’s a big deal. I’ll be sure to call Dawnie as soon as we get home and let her know that you think she’ll be just fine, all alone and heartbroken in Africa!”
“And suddenly the screeching demons don’t seem so bad,” Wesley sighed under his breath, closing his eyes and trying to block out the sounds of the fighting couple. He got behind the wheel and tried to concentrate on the soothing noise of the wind rushing by the speeding car. He had no doubt that they’d be back in each other’s arms, kissing and snuggling as they whispered apologies to each other, before they ever reached the hotel.
Sometimes it frightened him to think that he was the stable, rational one in this relationship.
********
It was an hour later when they pushed through the doors of the Hyperion—Wesley in the front and Buffy and Angel behind him, holding hands just as predicted. They were met by a bored-looking Faith, sitting on the couch in the lobby with her duffel bag sitting next to her.
“Faith! What are you doing here?” Buffy exclaimed, letting go of Angel’s hand and moving quickly to her friend’s side. They had made peace shortly after the closing of the Hellmouth, finding that they shared much more in common post-prison and resurrection, then they ever had before. Nevertheless, they had gone their separate ways—Buffy to Rome with her little sister, and Faith to Australia. She and Buffy were friends, but it was still best that they didn’t spend too much time in the same place.
Faith had laughed when Robin told her that Australia was first colonized by convicts and had immediately volunteered to round up the new slayers down under. “They’re like my peeps,” she had said, ignoring Dawn’s attempts to get her to go with them to Italy.
The last time Buffy had seen her was two years ago during the initial weeks of the fight against the armies unleashed by the Senior Partners. She and Robin had shown up with the slayers they had been training to help with the battle. Faith made it out alive. . . Robin didn’t. There were others who had been lost to the fight. . . Spike, several new slayers, and Angel’s friend Gunn. Buffy couldn’t think of them without a stab to her heart.
Still, for as many losses as they’d incurred, there had been good times in the midst of the relentless post-apocalyptic struggle. Willow had been drained and weak after using her powers to help Illyria close the rift between dimensions that was letting the demon armies pour in. Angel had sent her to a spiritual retreat in Tibet to recover, after making sure it wasn’t run by demons of course. While there, she had run into an old friend.
Kennedy hadn’t been too happy when her girlfriend came back from Asia with a husband, but the rest of the gang had been delighted to have Oz back in their lives. Buffy was happy to see her friend in love and at peace for the first time since Tara’s death.
Giles had barely survived the battle, taking a sword in the gut as he tried to save Andrew. He’d been lucky that the sword hadn’t hit any major organs, but the blood loss had been great and it had taken a long time for him to heal from the wounds and from the loss of so many new slayers and watchers.
Still, Giles was Giles and he had recovered and returned to England and the new Council headquarters he was putting together. Buffy talked to him at least once a week—sometimes more when he wanted her opinion on some important decision about Slayer Training.
Dawn had stayed in L.A. with her after the battle. The summer after she graduated from high school, she announced that she was going to South Africa to visit Xander and see the sights. When fall rolled around and Dawn didn’t return, Buffy was upset. Dawn was supposed to go to UCLA, but once in Africa, she let it be known that she wanted to train as a Watcher instead. Buffy had been irate and was getting ready to hop on a plane and drag her sister back to L.A. when the other shoe dropped—Dawn and Xander were in love and living together as much more than friends.
Thoughts of Xander and Dawn pulled Buffy’s attention back to the present, and she scowled at the thought of Xander breaking her little sister’s heart. She planned on breaking something of his as soon as she got her hands on the little . . .
“Uh oh, looks like B is pissed about something. Am I gonna have to find someplace else to stay?” Faith asked.
Buffy shook her head. “No, I’m sorry—totally something else. But what are you doing here?” she asked again.
Faith looked from Buffy to Angel and cocked an eyebrow. She had never totally understood Buffy’s mood swings. “Tracked a demon up from Mexico. I’m hoping I can pick Angel’s brain for a minute and then crash. I’m kinda running on empty here,” she explained.
Buffy nodded and moved to grab Faith’s bag. The weight of the bag pulled against the wound on her arm and she winced. Angel noticed her discomfort and moved to grab the bag from her.
“Buffy, please, go take care of that wound,” he pleaded, not wanting to start another fight but worried about her.
She sighed and looked at Faith, rolling her eyes. “I better go get cleaned up before he starts playing Neanderthal man and throws me over his shoulder,” she said to the other woman. Turning to Angel, she continued, “I’m going right now. You find out what’s the what with Faith’s demon and I’ll let caught up later. Satisfied?”
He gave her a smile and leaned over to give her a soft kiss. “Thank you,” he said, pushing her gently toward the stairs.
“See what I mean? He’s so pushy,” Buffy teased, tossing a smile to Faith and Wes as she climbed up to her rooms.
Angel’s eyes met Wes’s and he inclined his head toward the stairs and Buffy’s retreating back. Wes gave the other man a smile and nodded.
“Well, Faith, it’s good to see you again. I’ll leave you and Angel to get caught up while I get cleaned up myself,” Wes said to the slayer with a smile.
Faith grinned back at him. “Cut the crap, Wes. You’re going to check on her highness so Mr. Broody won’t go nuts with worry while we take care of business.” At the sight of Angel’s surprised look, she laughed. “Don’t sweat it. Go make sure she’s all bandaged up so Angel can pay attention to my news. I don’t like to repeat myself.”
Wes exchanged an amused look with Angel and nodded again. “Always a pleasure, Faith. I’ll see you later,” he said as he moved toward the staircase.
****************
Wes heard the sound of the shower running as he got closer to the rooms they shared. A shot of something like jealousy ran through him—a shower sounded so good. Fantasizing about the feel of hot water sluicing over his tired muscles and washing away the remnants of tonight’s demons, he knocked once on the door, and not hearing an answer, opened it and stepped inside the dimly lit room.
The sight that met his eyes made him take a deep, shuddering breath as he felt himself growing hard. Buffy stood with her back to him in the doorway to the bathroom, the bright lights of the other room illuminating the golden glow of her skin and the graceful sweep of her neck with its mouth-shaped scar. Her hair was piled on top of her head with a clip, exposing the smooth, feminine muscles of her shoulders and upper back
Wesley stood perfectly still, not wanting her to notice him before she was completely nude. He didn’t consider himself a particularly lucky man, but this time was an exception. As he watched, she hooked her fingers in the waistband of the tiny pink silk panties that covered her and, bending over, slid them down her legs and stepped out of them.
An unbidden groan escaped from his lips, and he moved toward her as she spun around at the sound.
“Wes,” she breathed, her tongue snaking out and licking at her lips.
He didn’t answer her, just moved until he was standing in front of her with barely a breath between them. Reaching over her shoulder, he grasped the clip and pulled it out of her hair so that the blonde strands fell over his hand and her shoulders.
“What. . .” Buffy started to say, but he cut her off with his lips on hers. Wes wrapped his hand into her hair and pulled her into his body, relishing the feel of her naked curves pressed against him. When her tongue met his, he thought he might die. She tasted so good. Snaking his free hand around her until it was cupping one delectable cheek, he pulled her even tighter against the erection that was straining back against her.
“I’m supposed to be helping you clean your wound,” he murmured against her lips.
Buffy smiled and turned her head slightly towards the shower. “So why don’t you lose the clothes and help me then.”
Wesley didn’t need to be asked twice. He quickly began to remove his clothes, his fingers momentarily tangling with hers as she worked at unzipping his pants. He hissed as her fingers grazed his cock and he quickly captured her lips in another kiss. Then she was pulling away from him as she stepped into the shower. He quickly removed the rest of his clothes and got in, pulling the door shut behind him.
“You are so beautiful,” he said as he pressed himself against her back, reaching around to cup her breasts in his hands. She moaned and pushed back against him, wiggling a little when his thumbs brushed across her hardening nipples. His cock jumped against the small of her back
in response, and Buffy let out a breathy laugh.
Spinning around in his arms, she pulled his head down to hers and nipped at his bottom lip before flicking it with her tongue. “Kinda feels like you might have something in mind other than cleaning my wound. . . something that might. . . get in the way. . .” she said, punctuating her words with little kisses as she brushed his chest with the tips of her breasts.
Wes sucked in his breath as she dropped her head and began kissing her way down his chest. When her breasts jostled against his erection, he let out his breath in a low moan. When she sunk to her knees and wrapped her fingers around his cock, he braced himself against the wall with one hand. When she flicked the head with her tongue before swirling it around and then engulfing it in her hot little mouth, he stopped breathing again and moved his other hand to tangle in her now-wet hair.
He was so engrossed by the feel of her lips wrapped around him that he didn’t notice the bathroom door open, the sounds of his moans covering the low growl that emanated from the new arrival. So when the shower door was flung open to reveal Angel in game face, he pulled Buffy’s mouth off of him, surprised and a little panicked.
“Angel,” she whispered. Angel looked at her, the anger and lust warring in his golden eyes. Then he pulled his gaze away to glare at Wesley.
“I thought I told you to make sure that wound got cleaned. Couldn’t this wait until you knew she was okay?” he demanded.
Wes opened his mouth to answer, and then snapped it shut when he felt Buffy’s mouth wrap around him again. His attention divided between the beautiful creature sucking his cock and the pissed-off vampire glaring at him, he struggled to make his brain work. Then Buffy was reaching out a hand to Angel and Angel was stepping into the spray, fully clothed, behind Wesley. Angel reached around and gripped Wesley’s cock at the base while Buffy made room for him. Wes felt his knees buckle at the twin pleasures of Angel’s broad, talented hand and Buffy’s hot wet mouth.
Angel caught him around the chest and supported his weight as he leaned in to whisper in Wesley’s ear. “She’s irresistible, isn’t she? What, did you come up here to find her in the shower already? Did you see her wet and glistening in front of you and lose track of why you came up here? I understand, really, I do. Her mouth is incredible. The only mouth that rivals hers is yours.”
Wes felt himself tighten at the words and knew that he wasn’t going to last any longer. With a
low groan, he ground back against Angel and the hard cock that pressed against him before thrusting forward into Angel’s hand and Buffy’s mouth. Then he was pulsing and coming and he thought he might never stop. It always felt like this with them—like his body was exploding into a million little pieces and he didn’t care if he ever got glued back together again.
He felt Buffy kiss the softening flesh before rising off her knees and meeting Angel’s lips over his shoulder. He stood between them, recovering some of his energy and enjoying the feeling of being in the middle of the two powerful beings with whom he shared a life. Feeling Angel shifting against his back, trying to get closer to Buffy, Wes slid out from between them and leaned against the tile wall. Watching them was almost as good as being a full participant.
Angel was soaking wet, his deep purple silk shirt stained black from the water. His mouth was
devouring Buffy’s, his tongue delving between her lips and sweeping inside as his hands skimmed over her body before settling one on her right breast and one on her backside. Wes watched as Buffy broke away from Angel’s lips, panting as she tried to catch her breath, her eyes a dark green and sparkling with her lust.
“I can taste you in her mouth,” Angel murmured, speaking to Wes but never taking his eyes off of Buffy’s body.
“Tastes good, doesn’t he?” Buffy panted, shifting her eyes to meet Wesley’s before returning her attention to Angel who was trailing his mouth down to her breasts. Angel purred in agreement as he nibbled on Buffy’s hardened nipples, using his cool tongue to lave away any pain his blunt bites might be causing.
Wes felt a surge of renewed desire run through his body at the words. Even when they were engrossed in one another, they always made sure he knew he wasn’t forgotten. His hand trailed down to stroke his quickly awakening cock.
He watched as Buffy, impatient as ever, ripped open Angel’s already ruined shirt and quickly unbuttoned his pants. Wes helped her pull them over his hips, his own erection hardening at the sight of Angel’s impressive engorged flesh. His hand trailed over Angel’s thighs before grazing his balls with the tips of his fingers, and he smiled in quiet satisfaction to hear the strangled sound that came out of the vampire’s throat.
“Angel, please, I need you,” Buffy moaned. Angel reacted immediately to her pleas. Gripping her ass, he lifted her up and spun them around so that Buffy’s back was cradled against Wes’s chest. Wes felt the force of his entry as Buffy slammed back against him, the air momentarily knocked out of his lungs as he was pressed against the cold marble tile. Buffy moaned in pleasure and arched against Angel, trying to meet each of his violent thrusts with equal force. Wes gripped the base of his own erection and panted as he felt the tip graze against the space where Buffy and Angel’s bodies were meeting.
Staring into Angel’s eyes when the vampire was inside Buffy was almost a religious experience.
Wesley had never been able to really understand the concept of perfect happiness until he saw the two of them together. He got it now, even though he’d never experienced it first hand. As much as
this arrangement was good for them all, Wes knew that his presence combined with Angel’s jealousy and possessiveness when it came to Buffy prevented the vampire from being perfectly happy.
Still, when he saw the way Angel looked at Buffy, he knew this was pretty damn close.
Wes could feel them getting close, could see that Angel was holding himself back to make sure Buffy came first, so he reached around her with his free hand and found the engorged nub at the center of her sex. Using his index and middle finger, he rubbed it with just the right amount of pressure before tweaking it gently. His actions were rewarded when she gasped and threw back her head, exposing her neck for Angel. Wesley knew from past experience that she was coming now . . . knew that her tight inner muscles were clenching around the cock that filled her. He also knew that
what was about to happen would send both she and Angel over an edge that most people never even approached.
Angel’s eyes glazed over as he thrust into her, pushing as deeply inside her as he could get. At
the same time his face shifted and he sunk his fangs into her exposed neck. Wes watched Angel’s face as he drank from the slayer and he could pinpoint the exact second that he exploded
inside Buffy. Then he wasn’t thinking at all as he felt Angel’s hand graze his own cock and he was coming again.
It was several long moments before they moved. Angel sighed as he lifted Buffy off of him and shifted her weight so that she was cradled in his arms. Stepping back, he gave Wesley a long appraising gaze before addressing him as though they hadn’t just screwed each other silly in the shower.
“Now go take care of that wound like you were supposed to,” Angel growled at Wes as he shifted Buffy’s limp body into his arms. “I’ll deal with you later,” he promised the other man, a wicked gleam in his eyes.
Wesley snuggled Buffy’s body against his chest and stepped out of the shower. Grabbing a fluffy towel to dry her with, he made his way back into the living area of the suite. He could feel Angel’s eyes following him, and he shivered in a mix of fear and anticipation. First, though, he needed to get Buffy’s arm dried and bandaged. He’d already have hell to pay, and no matter how much he just wanted to take her wet, warm body to the bed and watch her ride him into oblivion, he wanted to be alive and well for Angel’s “punishment” even more.

“Morning, sleepy head,” Faith called to Buffy, her head stuck in the industrial size refrigerator as she sorted through the bags of blood to find something to eat for breakfast. Finally seizing on a piece of cold pizza, she took a bite and turned to look at the woman who had shuffled over to the coffee pot and was pouring herself a cup.
Faith swallowed and then let out a low whistle as her eyes swept over Buffy. The other slayer was
nearly glowing. Her hair was tousled in that special ‘I just had great sex way’, her lips were swollen, and she had what looked to be a freshly opened bite mark on her neck.
“Well, well, well. I guess the mystery of why you stayed in bed so late this morning has been
solved. And I was trying to pretend the sounds I heard last night belonged to a pack of very wild and satisfied animals. Damn, B.,” Faith teased.
Buffy looked at her with slightly sleepy eyes and smiled. “Shut up Faith,” she said, but there wasn’t
any malice in her words.
“Sure, no problem. So where are Angel and Wes this morning? I’m surprised they haven’t made it downstairs yet,” Faith said, still grinning but trying to stay on Buffy’s good side for at least 10 minutes in a row.
“Still in bed. Look, I have to leave in a few minutes to pick Dawn up from the airport, but I was
wondering if I could talk to you for a sec.” Buffy asked, looking determined but a little uncomfortable.
Faith raised her eyebrows in response. “What’s up?”
“Well, you know how you just asked where Angel and Wes were?” she began.
“Uh huh,” Faith answered with a puzzled look.
“And you know how I told you they were still in . . . bed?” Buffy continued, having to stop to clear her throat before finishing her sentence. Her hand snaked up to absently rub over her bite mark as she waited for Faith to catch on.
“Yeah, it happened about 20 seconds ago. Why are you asking. . . .” Faith’s eyes widened and her mouth went a little slack. “Are you trying to tell me that Angel and Wes are in bed. . ..together?”
Buffy stared her friend straight in the eye and nodded.
“And you’re o.k. with it?” Faith asked.
Her face flushed pink, but Buffy kept her eyes on Faith’s and nodded. “I’m way more than o.k. with
it. I’d still be with them if I didn’t have to get to the airport,” she admitted softly.
A few seconds of complete silence, and then Faith’s shocked expression relaxed into a wide grin. “No fucking way! I mean, I always suspected Angel and Wes were more than friends, but you?
Perfect, vanilla Buffy is not only making herself the meat in an Angel/Wes sandwich but she doesn’t seem even a little jealous that they like to play ball alone. No fucking way,” she repeated, shaking her head in amused surprise.
Buffy frowned at Faith, her eyes losing a little of their light as she regarded her laughing friend.
“I shouldn’t have said anything to you. I knew you’d just make fun of me. . .”
“I’m not!” Faith interrupted. “Believe me, I’m not making fun of you. It’s just a little hard to swallow, you know? Let’s just say that out of the two of us, I’d have bet on me being the one in this kind of relationship.”
“Yeah, well, it was kind of a surprise to me too, you know? But it happened, and we’re pretty
happy. I . . . I think what Angel, Wes and I have is going to be pretty permanent and so I wanted to start breaking the news to people. . .”
“Starting with the chick who would be least likely to faint from the shock to her tender sensibilities?” Faith finished for her.
Buffy gave her a tentative smile as she looked up at her, unsure of how to continue. Faith did look pretty shocked, despite the open smile and twinkle in her eye.
Faith stepped toward Buffy and grabbed her hand, giving it a squeeze. “I’m happy if you’re happy
B. I know how hard it’s been on you and Angel to be apart. I have to admit that the addition of Wes
throws a wrench in my visions of your grand reunion with Angel. But I’ll take the ‘I’m so relaxed I’m going to melt into a big puddle on the floor’ look that you’ve got going as a sign that this is working great for you.”
“It is. It really is,” Buffy replied with a coy smile.
“Can I ask a question?”
“Sure, but if it has to do with relative size or the mechanics of positions, we might have to throw down,” Buffy teased, but the look on her face let Faith know she was kind of serious. Faith laughed and stepped back, putting her hands in front of her with her palms facing out.
“Simmer down Summers. I just wanted to know . . . well, I get that you’re happy and I can see
where Wes is in his fucking wet dream, but what about Angel? I can’t imagine that he likes seeing you with another man. He’s always struck me as the jealous type,” she inquired, her concern for Angel’s well-being showing in the wake of her fading smile.
“He’s. ... well, he’s happy but not too happy, if you catch my drift. This lets us be together and the rest of it kind of falls away in the wake of that. What matters is that I love him and he loves me. The rest is just details,” Buffy quietly explained.
Faith slowly nodded before raising an eyebrow and gracing Buffy with her infamous bad-girl smirk.
“Those are some juicy fucking details, B.”
