Spike looked at the torn, bloody and beaten body that lay on the floor.
Then he looked at her.
"What? What is it, now? He wants you too much? Let me guess. You want one that's not panting after you, eh?"
She turned glistening eyes his way for a moment, his aggrieved tone capturing her attention. It was only a short moment, though, before she turned her perfect nose up at him and looked away once again. She took his favorite chair, curling up, getting comfortable, her pose negligent and at ease. Ignoring him once again. Ignoring what he'd brought her. She studied her nails. Comfort was very important to her, especially during these trying times.
"Yer a cold bitch, you are, pet. Cool as ice, yeah? Like you've never sweated in an alley for me. For it. Bitch. What is it you *want*? I do an' I do and it's never enough, is it?"
She yawned.
Spike tried a new tactic. He moved closer to her, kneeling so that his face was close to hers. His voice went soft and coaxing. "He's handsome, he is. I know he is. Picked him out myself. Sexy, even. Gotta spray to put the others to shame. Like a wolf!"
She scowled at the wolf reference, sneezed.
"Panther, then. Sorry. Didin' mean to offend." He smiled at her, showing his fangs. "Jus' look at him. 'Side's from the ear you tore off, what's to complain about? Good-looking bloke. Nice color."
She yawned again but moved her head closer to his. He reached out to touch her and got slapped for his effort. His hand went to his cheek, his finger tracing the thin line of blood she'd drawn. He stared at her as he licked his finger clean.
"Bitch." The affection he couldn't hold back, colored the word. He grinned at her and scratched behind her ears, just as she liked. "Fine. He's not good enough for you. I'll find another." Spike grabbed the beaten cat by the scruff of its neck, holding him near his face. "Sorry, mister, but the lady's not gonna have you, in heat or no. Back to the alley for you. And no stud fee. She's got her standards." He looked back at his chair and its occupant. "I'm just gonna go out and find another one, miss, more suited to your special tastes. We do have a bit of a timeline, though, don't we? You need shagging and I need your litter. Oh, and don't think I won't have my eye out for a less bothersome female! Your days are numbered, miss BuffyCat, mark my words."
She twitched her tail.
Even she knew he liked his females bothersome.
