Chapter 9
A/N: Not much smut in this chapter but more's coming. I promise.

“Hmm, baby, shouldn’t we be patrolling?” Faith mumbled as she and Buffy continued to kiss and grope each other against a crypt in one of Sunnydale’s many cemeteries. It took all her strength just to say that, but could feel it fade as Buffy’s hand started to travel up her shirt.
“I like this better,” Buffy mumbled back before fully kissing the brunette once again.
It had been three weeks since Giles had caught them in his office and nothing much had really changed. The rest of their friends still didn’t know about the pair’s growing relationship and it was getting harder to cover it up. Things were starting to get more outwardly physical and they’d had to break apart quickly more than once so no one caught them together.
On the upside, they had gotten to know each other better. Buffy had told Faith about life in LA and before her slaying days and Faith told her about life in Boston. The younger teen had even told her about her home life and her neglectful parents. They were bonding and getting much closer, but Faith was still frustrated that only a few people knew about them. She wanted everyone to know so she wouldn’t have to hide her feelings for the blonde.
“B, seriously,” Faith finally managed to break away, “we should probably just patrol.”
Faith lightly pushed Buffy away and moved off the stone wall of the crypt. She dusted off and straightened her clothes as Buffy did the same. The blonde didn’t look all that happy to have been stopped, though.
“We haven’t seen a vampire for the last hour,” Buffy sighed, “I think that gives us permission to keep doing what we’re doing.”
“That wouldn’t keep us very alert, would it?” Faith smirked, lifting an eyebrow.
Buffy sighed again. “All right, no patrolling. Should we check out the Bronze?”
“Nothing ever happens there unless it’s work-related,” Faith said as they started to make their way out of the cemetery, “and that’s never fun.” She paused as Buffy smirked at her. “Well, it’s fun, but the Bronze always needs to close for repairs after.”
Buffy laughed. “Since no vampires want to play, might as well just relax and watch other people make fools of themselves on the dance floor.”
“I’m not watching Xander dance all night,” Faith chuckled as they reached the entrance of the cemetery they had attempted to patrol. “What do you say we dance together for once?”
“We’ll see,” the blonde smiled at her. “I just need to get a drink and kick back for awhile.”
Faith only nodded and ten minutes later the chosen two reached the Bronze. The club was fairly crowded, but they managed to find their friends easily. Willow, Oz, Xander and Cordelia were sitting together at a big table in a corner of the club that overlooked the dance floor.
“Hey, girls,” Xander waved at them, “we didn’t expect you for awhile. Slow night?”
“I think the vamps took a night off,” Buffy said, starting to sit down next to Willow.
“Yeah,” Faith agreed. “I’ll go get us a couple drinks, B.”
“Okay,” Buffy said and watched Faith go over to the bar, hypnotized by how hot the brunette looked in her leather pants and tight top that left nothing to the imagination. Xander tapped her on the shoulder to bring her attention back to the table.
“You know, Buff, it’s been forever since you’ve been on a date,” he said. Cordelia nodded in agreement. “I think I speak for everyone here when I say you need to get back out there. You can’t be still pining away for Angel.”
“I’m not all piney,” Buffy protested, “and I am one hundred percent over Angel. I just don’t feel like getting back out there.”
“Maybe you just need a little push,” Cordelia offered.
“You would be the one to offer pushing,” Buffy narrowed her eyes at her then looked over at Willow, who looked like she wanted to be elsewhere as long as it was no where near the conversation taking place.
Xander, however, was motioning for someone to come over. “Buffy, you know Evan, right?”
“Uh, yeah. Hi,” Buffy said politely, glancing over at Willow. The redhead made an apologetic face then looked over to Oz and Buffy could never read his face.
“Hi, Buffy,” Evan said nervously. He was okay looking, if not a little oafish, with sandy brown hair and rustic features. He looked like someone Buffy might have been interested in if it wasn’t for Faith. “Would you like to dance?”
“She’d love to,” Xander responded before Buffy could say anything. He nudged toward her so she’d stand up.
“I guess,” the blonde responded, trying not to sound mean or bitchy, even though she wanted to get out of this situation as quickly as possible. The next thing she knew, however, Xander and Cordelia were pushing the two of them toward the dance floor and it was just her luck that a slow song started.
“See, all she needed was a push,” Xander said, sitting back down with Cordelia as Buffy and Evan started to dance.
“I don’t think that’s what Buffy wanted,” Willow said, shifting in her seat and hoping nothing bad would happen because of this.
“What didn’t B want?” Faith asked, coming back to the table with drinks for her and Buffy.
“A new guy in her life,” Cordelia said happily. “For once, Xander was right. Check it out.”
Faith turned to the dance floor and her entire body went rigid. She tried her best to control her anger as she saw her girlfriend slow dancing with the guy Xander and Cordelia had picked out for her. She wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but she thought Buffy might even be enjoying herself with the guy. She knew it would be a losing battle to control her emotions so she turned back to the group. The last thing she wanted to look at was Buffy and some guy. Xander and Cordelia were smiling, but Willow was looking very uncomfortable with the situation and Oz was looking at her with concern.
“That’s great,” Faith said, trying not to sneer. She knew she had to get out of there before she did something stupid. She was also trying hard to keep in mind none of them, save Willow, knew Buffy was already taken and the redhead looked like she wanted nothing to do with this plan.
“You know, Faith, we could probably hook you up with someone, too,” Xander commented, “but I doubt you’d have a problem with that.”
“Uh-huh,” the brunette said quickly, ignoring what Xander said completely, “you know, I’m gonna head out. I’ll see you later.”
Faith took one last look at the dance floor just as Buffy looked over at the table. Their eyes met and Buffy could clearly see the anger in her girlfriend’s eyes. Faith turned back quickly and stalked toward the door.
“Faith, is something wrong?” Xander asked innocently, but Faith didn’t answer him.
Buffy quickly detached herself from the guy she had been talked into dancing with and raced toward her friends. She knew that look in Faith’s eye all too well: she wanted to strike out and hurt something. She had to put a stop to this quickly. Faith was angry or hurt or something and she had to fix it.
“Where is Faith going?” she asked worriedly, her panicked eyes searching the club.
“She said she was gonna leave,” Xander said. “Why’d you stop dancing?”
“You know what, Xand? No offense, but I’m not interested,” Buffy said. “I gotta find Faith.” She raced out of the club before anyone could say anything about it.

Faith couldn’t even think straight as she stormed out of the club. She couldn’t believe Buffy had actually gone along with her friends’ plan to set her up with some guy. She didn’t know how she could even consider it when they were dating and had been for awhile now. The whole situation left her wondering if she was good enough for the older slayer or even if she ever would.
As soon as she got to the other side of the street, Faith broke out into a light run. She didn’t want to deal with what she just saw or any implications of it. She also didn’t want to see her girlfriend and say something she didn’t mean. Right now, there was only one thing she wanted to do: kill something.
Once she got to the nearest cemetery, Faith instinctively went right into the mode of hunter. The only problem was she couldn’t keep her senses straight. She tried to just concentrate on looking for vampires or demons, but Buffy was in the back of her mind.
“What has she done to me?” the brunette slayer remarked aloud while stomping around for something to pummel. She didn’t even realize she wasn’t being at all stealthy until it was too late.
“I know what I’m gonna do to you,” a menacing voice said from behind her.
Faith turned just in time for the demon to land a blow right to her face. The brunette shook it off as best she could and tried to size up her opponent. He was well over six feet tall, probably closer to seven, and was an eerie shade of blue that reflected the moonlight and gave off the impression he glowed.
“I think you have it backwards, asshole,” Faith sneered at him and put all her anger into a swing that sent the demon staggering backwards as it connected with his jaw.
Faith thought for sure she’d have the upper hand in the fight, but she was soon proven wrong. She got off a quick couple of kicks to his chest but he was faster than she thought he would be. Even though she had super-strength, the demon had a height and weight advantage she couldn’t match.
The blue demon quickly had her taking steps backwards while she fended off his strikes and tried to think of a tactic to gain the advantage. She couldn’t believe she wasn’t taking down this oaf without a problem. She knew instantly it was a mistake to rush out. Buffy needed to be here. She needed help.
Suddenly, she saw a flash. Before Faith could process what it was, the demon lurched toward and she reacted a split second to late. The knife stuck into her right side and the brunette fell, hitting her head on a headstone on the way down.
“Faith!” Buffy yelled, seeing the younger slayer fall and the demon tower over her.
Buffy ran toward the fight, grabbing the stake she had in her jacket. It was the only weapon she had with and she had a feeling she’d need something to defend herself with. Her mind shut down, going into complete slayer-mode. All she could think was the demon needed to die.
The demon had knelt down to see if the fallen slayer was still alive and only looked up in time to see the sole of Buffy’s boot hit his face. He scrambled away from Faith, losing his balance and falling right on his ass.
The blonde didn’t waste any time. She charged, jumping right at him. She knew she didn’t have time for puns, just needed to finish the fight as quickly as possible so she could help Faith. The thought was all that was keeping her going. Buffy kicked him in the chest to keep him on the ground then staked him square in the chest.
The demon cried out, but Buffy knew right away it wouldn’t be enough. He was too huge and the stake just didn’t seem to be going deep enough. She took the stake out of his chest and stabbed him again and then again. The anger she was feeling was starting to come out as she felt the demon slowly start to die.
“How dare you hurt her!” she screamed at him, feeling him still under her as she kept stabbing him. She knew part of what she was feeling was guilt but didn’t want to think about that right now. She didn’t have time. Realizing he was finally dead, she jumped up and ran back over to Faith, kneeling down to check her over. “Faith, baby, are you okay?”
The brunette’s eyes were closed, her body limp. Buffy noticed a small wound on her head where she had hit the stone on the way down. A tiny trail of blood was running down the side of her face from it. The blonde’s eyes traveled from that to Faith’s side. Blood was flowing freely from the knife wound, staining her white top and her leather jacket.
“God, baby,” Buffy almost whimpered, her eyes starting to tear up, “I’m so sorry.” She instantly felt that this was all her fault. She panicked and her mind went blank for a second before she felt for a pulse. Finding one, Buffy quickly kissed her forehead and picked her up as gently as she could.
“I’m gonna help you, Faith,” Buffy said quietly to the young slayer. She knew she probably shouldn’t be carrying her with the wound Faith had received, but also knew she couldn’t just leave her there to get help. Faith wouldn’t survive. “You’re going to be okay.”
