Willow sat cross legged on the polished marble floor, staring up at the painting. She had been sitting there for at least half an hour and was still waiting for Buffy to emerge from the office behind her.
Buffy had been trying to sneak past the gallery when her mother had grabbed the pair and hauled Buffy inside, muttering angrily about a boyfriend. Willow had just sat quietlyfronfront of her favourite painting.
The picture always made her feel that she was looking into another world, a world where magic was real, and where problems could be solved with simple spells like on TV. Shattered out of her illusion, the door behind flew open, banging the handle on the wall and an enraged Buffy stormed out, not waiting for her friend to catch up as she kicked open the main entrance door, almost ploughing straight through Spike as he jogged up the steps. He stopped and watched as she disappeared around the corner with her red headed friend hurrying to try to catch her. He shrugged his shoulders and continued into the gallery.
William knocked politely on the door waiting patiently until Joyce opened it, her face flushed. Apologising for the inconvenient timing, William was ushered into the office.
Buffy had managed to lose herself in the industrial side of town somewhere. Willow had lost sight of her pretty quickly and had turned around and headed back to the campus hoping that her friend would return when she had calmed down a bit.
Letting herself into Oz’s room, she waited for him to return, going over her history notes while she waited.
Buffy wandered around the warehouses kicking random bits of litter she came across, not looking where she was going as she muttered to herself. How come she always got told off when it wasn’t her fault? If it was Dawn, then her mom wouldn’ve gve gone completely schizo like she did. And she would have believed her when she said she had no idea what that stupid jerk was gonna do.
What kind of stupid frat boy went and invited himself to Thanksgiving Dinner after he got dumped? She kicked a crumpled can ferociously, looking up startled when she heard someone yell in pain. Apologising to the homeless man next to the dumpster she hurried off as she realised that the sky was darkening rapidly.
Turning the corner back onto Main Street, Buffy spied Riley chatting with some of the basketball team in the window of Starbucks. Making up her mind she marched across the road and threw open the door. She stood angrily in front the entire team as she delivered her tirade to the dumb jocks as they watched slack jawed.
Riley stood up as she finished, stepping towards her menacingly, taken aback when she stood her ground, not even blinking as she watched him get nearer. He towered over her small frame easily, looking down into her clear green eyes as he said slowly, “Honey, I’ll be there. Don’t worry.”
Buffy blinked, confounded. She was at a loss for what to say. Had he even heard a word she said?
Riley looked down, pleased with himself. There was no way that a small weak little girl like Buffy would say anything now, not in front of his friends. All she had to do was keep quiet and she would look like a fool and he would look like the great boyfriend. Not one for following silent rules, Buffy narrowed her eyes and glared harder,
“You. And. Me. Are. Over.” She told him slowly, “You. Are. NOT. Invited.” She looked around at the team before focusing back on his flabbergasted face, “Leave. Me. Alone.” And with that she stormed out, not caring about her hair as the wind picked up and almost blew her home.
William smiled gratefully as Joyce handed him the tightly wrapped bundle. It would make the perfect present for his mother this year. Last Christmas they were in different countries and had simply sent gift vouchers. This year William wanted to show his mum how much she meant to him and he had already spent most of his money on presents.
Thanking her profusely, William left the gallery with a smile on his face. It was only when he reached the bottom step did he remember how upset Buffy had been when she had rushed past him. Even the redhead had looked flustered. Changing direction to head back to the dorm instead of his mum’s apartment his mind ran through a million different scenarios where Buffy would want him, allow him to comfort her and grant him more sweet kisses to melt his senses. He had been going crazy with lust whenever he was alone with her ever since that brief moment where her lips had graced his.
Pushing open the door slowly he peered around the frame to find the room dark and empty. Thinking she must be with her friends he closed the window, protecting the room against the howling wind and rain that had blown his journal open on the floor. Picking it up before anyone could see it he tucked it away in his drawer and began to straighten up the room to keep his mind off his roomie.
