MIDNIGHT AND ROSES - CHAPTER 7

To say there was an uneasy truce between Spike and Buffy would be an understatement. They barely tolerated each other and everyone knew there was no love lost between them. Her breakup with Angel had been fodder for gossip for weeks, and added to her humiliation, was the fact that Spike and Angel were now living together openly, making Buffy hate them even more.
Things were looking up for Spike. He was newly mated to Angel and had recently moved in with him. After living a solitary life for more than a hundred years, being with someone was a new experience for the blond vampire. He relished being with the man he loved and still had to pinch himself, knowing that man loved him back. Added to his good fortune was the news that he had been approved, on Giles’ recommendations, to train as Angel’s Watcher. Unlife was good.
Angel walked swiftly beside Spike, their leather dusters flowing out from their bodies looking like wings, as they hurried toward the Magic Box. They didn’t want to be late for Giles’ announcement to the Scoobies about Spike’s appointment as a Watcher. Angel was a little nervous that the news wouldn’t bode well with the group, but Spike had assured him that whatever happened, they would face it together. Spike felt his lover’s apprehension over their blood link and offered Angel his hand. It was taken gratefully and the reassuring squeeze by Spike calmed Angel somewhat.
“Well, luv... here we are,” Spike said as they stopped in front of the shop. He raised Angel’s hand to his lips and kissed it lightly. “Everything’s gonna’ be all right, pet... yeah?”
Angel smiled nervously at Spike and took a deep breath. His relationship with the Scoobies now was an uncomfortable one, to say the least. Leaving Buffy, to be with Spike, did not set well with her friends, and there was an uneasy tension between them. Hopefully, tonight’s meeting would be short and sweet.
“Showtime...” Angel said under his breath so that only Spike could hear when he saw Buffy hurrying toward them.
Spike scrambled quickly to reach the door to the Magic Box a split second before Buffy put her hand out. He gallantly opened the door and gestured to Buffy to enter first.
“Slayer...” he cocked his head toward her and smirked.
“Spike... Angel...” Buffy mumbled as she pushed her way past Spike without looking at either of them.
Spike took Angel’s hand and they went into the store behind Buffy. The tiny slayer hurriedly took a seat at the meeting table between Xander and Willow.
“Hey, Buffy...” Xander greeted his friend. He glared at Spike and Angel holding hands. “You two should get a room,” he said disdainfully.
Willow cut her eyes toward Xander and Buffy, showing them her displeasure at Xander’s remark. The Wiccan was well aware of the obstacles same sex couples encountered and she was determined that Spike and Angel would hear none of it when she was in their company. She grasped Tara’s hand lovingly and smiled at the lovers. “You’re always welcome to sit with us, you two,” she said quietly. Tara smiled at them, too.
Spike grinned back at Willow and her lover and flopped down in the empty chair next to her. Angel smiled shyly as he slid in next to his vampire. “Thanks, Red. Always said you were all right, I did...” Spike said loudly so that all could hear.
Before any more smart remarks could be aimed at Spike and his consort, there came a cough from the shadows. All eyes turned to look at Giles as he stepped into the light and walked over to the head of the table.
“Umm... well... first off, thank you all for coming. I have an important announcement tonight that some of you, well... perhaps all of you, might not want to hear. But, it is imperative that I have your acceptance and cooperation in this matter.” Giles took a deep breath before he continued. “The Watcher’s Council has accepted my recommendation that Spike be trained as Angel’s Watcher...”
A loud groan rose up from the group before they started to chatter amongst themselves, making Giles take off his glasses and proceed to polish them furiously. He frowned and waited for the noise to ramp down to a dull roar.
“People... please...” he pleaded in frustration. “Please... hear me out...”
Spike was just loving all the commotion and had to wrap his arms tightly around his chest to keep from laughing out loud. This reaction was even better than he had expected. Angel smiled weakly as all eyes turned to him and Spike, not enjoying the attention at all.
Willow smacked Spike on the shoulder. “Spike... great! Oh, and you, too, Angel...” she said as she craned her neck to see past the blond vampire.
Tara, Dawn and Anya were pleased with Giles’ announcement, but Buffy and Xander were not.
“G-man, you’re not serious?” Xander asked incredulously.
Buffy couldn’t believe her ears, either. “Giles?” she looked at her Watcher questioningly.
Giles sighed heavily before he spoke. “Please, people... it’s done. Spike has already started his training and is quite serious and enthusiastic about it. I expect you all to respect Spike... and of course, Angel as well.” He stopped to wipe his glasses. “This is a big adjustment,” he continued. “I want everyone to give Spike and Angel your full cooperation.” Giles blanched at what would come next. “Questions...?”
Buffy jumped to her feet first. “Giles, you’re not serious? Spike?” she said, curling her lips in disgust.
“Yes, Buffy... Spike... and I expect your full support.”
“Sheesh... Fang boy and Fuck toy...” Xander rolled his eyes. Anya poked him hard in the ribs. “Honey. It’s all good... right?”
Giles coughed again. “All right everyone... quiet, please. Spike? Would you like to say something?”
Spike rose to his full height, surveyed the group and sniffed. He sucked in his cheeks and looked lovingly at Angel. Angel locked eyes with his vampire and gave him a shy smile. He was ready.
“I know you all think I’m dirt...” Spike began. A quiet murmur rose up from those sitting at the table; he waited for the muttering to subside, but he had heard every word. “Truth be told, I never cared much for you lot, neither... ‘cept for Red and the Bit... but, a man can change...”
Buffy jumped up again and stomped over to Spike. She grabbed the lapels of his leather duster and pulled him close to her. “You’re not a man, Spike...” she hissed. “You’re a thing... an evil, disgusting thing...”
Spike looked scornfully at Buffy as he grasped her wrists and pulled them away. “Afraid to find out what I can really do, Slayer?” he sneered.
Giles moved between Buffy and Spike, separating them before their anger escalated. “Buffy... please... take your seat...” Buffy cut her eyes at Giles, but did as he requested.
Giles motioned to Angel. “Angel, would you please join us?” The demon hunter rose and moved to stand between Spike and Giles. Giles put one hand on each man’s shoulder and gave the Scoobies a warning look.
“Well... I think we all understand one another, like it or not. Spike is Angel’s Watcher. Congratulations, Spike...” he smiled, and offered Spike, then Angel, his hand. Both men accepted Giles’ hand graciously. He turned to the Scoobies once more. “I’ll be available to speak to anyone who feels the need, so then... umm... this meeting is adjourned.”
“Thanks, Watcher,” Spike said softly as he looked Giles in the eye. “You won’t be disappointed. I have every intention of protecting what’s mine with my life...”
“I know you do, Spike,” Giles smiled. “That’s why I recommended you.” He turned to Angel. “You’re a lucky man, Angel. Spike loves you and would die for you. There is no greater love...”
“I know, Giles. Thank you,” Angel said quietly. “I would die for him, too...”
With those last words, Angel reached for Spike’s hand and they took their leave from the Magic Box. Only Buffy and Xander ignored them as they left.

“Oi! That went well, eh, luv?” Spike said sarcastically as he and Angel made their way home.
Angel looked over to Spike questioningly. “You’re kidding, right?”
Spike stopped dead in his tracks, then turned to face Angel. His demon hunter skidded to a halt in front of him. Smiling softly, he cupped Angel’s face in his hands. “Only kidding, luv... knew they wouldn’t like it...” He kissed Angel lightly on the lips. “Don’t matter, though. C’mon, we should celebrate! What shall we do?”
Angel grinned evilly and waggled his eyebrows at Spike. “I think we should go home...” he smiled sweetly. “Then, I think we should have a drink to celebrate...” he pulled Spike to him roughly and devoured his lips in a brutal kiss, making the blond vampire moan as he started to harden. “Then...” we’ll go into the bedroom...”
“Oh fuck, luv...” Spike groaned as he ground his hips hard against Angel.
“We will, baby... we will...” Angel breathed softly into his lover’s mouth as he kissed him hungrily.
While they didn’t quite run, the pair made it back home in almost record time. Neither of them spoke, each caught up in the thoughts of what would be coming next. When they got to their flat, Angel couldn’t get his trembling fingers to work the lock, making Spike laugh softly as he took the key from his lover and opened the door with ease. Spike barely had time to drop the key onto the table in the foyer before Angel was on him. He whirled Spike around to face him, pulling him roughly against his chest, and ravenously kissed his lips. “Gods, Spike...” he breathed harshly. “I need you in me so bad...”
Spike moaned with want into Angel’s welcoming mouth. “I need you more...” he whispered softly while he rolled his shoulders to shrug off his heavy duster. It fell into a heap at his feet, just as Angel reluctantly broke their kiss, panting for air. Spike took the opportunity to pull his tee shirt off over his head and toss it away, then hurriedly dropped his pants and toed off his boots. Angel had just finished slipping out of his shirt and was working on his pants when Spike growled and fell to his knees in front of him. He reached up and slid Angel’s zipper open, then pulled his jeans down around his knees, freeing his cock. It bounced out in front of Spike’s face and he stilled for a moment to admire the swollen flesh. Angel hissed loudly and his knees buckled when Spike clasped his fingers tightly around his shaft and popped it into his mouth. “Jeezus, Spike!” Angel gasped as the blond vampire’s cool mouth circled around him and started to move. Spike sucked and pulled, harder and harder, faster and faster to bring Angel off quickly. With the tension gone, they would be able to have a slow, sweet fuck that would last for hours. Spike grabbed his own dick and jerked himself hard until he felt the inevitable tingle in his balls signaling he was about to come. Angel’s eyes rolled up into his head and he began to tremble; Spike knew he was coming. “Ohh... fuck...” Angel hissed through clenched teeth, then shot his load while Spike sucked and swallowed the warm cream hungrily. Spike followed Angel in seconds, grunting quietly as he forced the last of his come out of his already softening cock. Angel sank to his knees and sat back on his haunches beside Spike, breathing heavily.
“That wasn’t what I had in mind, Spike...” Angel forced out between pants.
Spike smiled softly at his lover, his azure eyes twinkling. “I know, luv... but there’s lots more where that came from, yeah? Why don’t you run the shower and I’ll join you after I break out the bubbly? We’re gonna’ celebrate properly, we are...”
Angel grinned and his cock jerked at the thought of a shower with his vampire. “Shower sounds good, lover. Don’t keep me waiting...” he purred. He leaned over and gave Spike a soft kiss on his forehead before he rose to his feet. Then, he turned on his heels, wiggled his bare ass at Spike, and headed for the bathroom.
