"You
know, woman like that, might be a good idea to start treatin' her a little
better. Know I would've."
Angel
blinked, the voice that pulled him from sleep both
familiar and hard for him to place at the moment. He sat up, his eyes widening
as he saw who was sitting on the end of his bed. "Doyle?"
"In
the flesh." Doyle frowned. "Or not so much, seeing as the Powers
didn't see fit to send me back in corporeal form."
"Why
are you here at all?" Angel asked, his brow furrowed.
"You
don't sound very happy to see me. Guy could get his feelings hurt..."
"No,
it's not that. I just..." Angel ran his hand through his hair. "I
didn't expect to see you."
"And
I didn't expect to be payin' you a visit, but here I am," Doyle replied. "Won't be here for long, though. Wasn't
able to get a permanent ticket back to the mortal coil like Cordelia."
Angel
frowned at the mention of her name, realizing she wasn't in the room with them.
He could've sworn she'd been there when he'd fallen asleep. "Where..."
"Downstairs.
Having a cup of coffee and feeling sorry for herself
because the man she's sacrificed everything for is being such an arse."
Angel
blinked. "Doyle..."
"Well
ya are. Cordelia's one hell of a woman, man. You
should be thankin' your lucky stars that she loves you the way she does."
"Cordelia's
dead."
"So
are we, but we're havin' this conversation," Doyle pointed out.
"Yeah,
but..."
"No
buts, man. That's Cordelia Chase down there, and she loves you." Doyle
gave Angel a lopsided grin. "Kind of makes me wonder about her taste in
men, but she does. She adores you, Angel, despite everything you've done,
and you're breakin' her heart."
"How
can I trust her?" Angel eyed Doyle skeptically. "How can I even trust
that you're really Doyle?"
Doyle's
eyebrow arched. "Who else could have a face this good lookin'?"
"You
died and now you're sitting there all incorporeal," Angel replied.
"You could be the First Evil."
"Yes,
I'm the First Evil telling you to be with the woman you love. How very sinister
of me. Angel, listen to me, man. You're throwing away a
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity here. How many women like Cordelia have you met
in your 277 years on this earth?"
"I
don't think there are any other women like Cordelia."
"Which would be my point. You're only hurtin' the both of you
like this. You lost the love of your life only to have her returned to you. Do
you know what a gift that is, how many people would give up everything they
have just to get that? Don't push her away anymore. Hold her close and treasure
every moment that by all rights you never should've gotten to have."
"I
don't know. I don't know what to believe. Everything's gotten so turned
around."
"You
lost your path," Doyle said. "But your guide is back now. That's what
she was always meant to be. It's even why I was sent to
you in the first place. The PTB wanted you to rediscover your humanity, and
that's what she is. That first mission, it wasn't about saving Tina. It was
about saving you. Cordelia's what lights your way, what
can make you more man than monster. You need her."
Angel
knew Doyle was right. He did need Cordelia. She brought something to him no
woman ever had before, not Buffy nor Darla. But could
he accept that this was all real? So many times in the past he'd thought he'd
been given something good only to find it wasn't what he'd originally believed
it to be. "How..."
Doyle
cut him off. "Don't think about it, man. Listen to your heart, to your soul. Cordelia's a
part of both of them—a part of you.
Just look at her—really look at her—and you'll know."
"Doyle..."
Doyle
started to fade, the room behind him now visible through his form. "Listen
to me, Angel. I'm your friend, and I'm giving you some good advice. Take care
of her. Love her. This is your last
chance."
"Wait.
Don't..."
"I
have to go. This world isn't mine anymore. Just...give
Cordelia the love she deserves. It's what you both need." Doyle gave Angel
one last smile before vanishing completely.
Angel
stared at the spot where the ghost of his friend had just
been, knowing it was time to make a decision.

Angel found Cordelia downstairs, like Doyle
had said she would be. Her coffee mug was empty, but she was running a
well-manicured finger around the rim. "Feeling sorry for yourself because
the man you sacrificed everything for is being such an arse?" Angel asked.
Cordelia looked up sharply from behind the
front desk. "Huh?"
"Just got a visit from an old
friend," Angel said. "That's what he said you'd be doing right
now."
Cordelia didn't ask who he meant, and Angel
had a feeling she knew. "Well, he was right. Only I'm, you know, American,
so replace 'arse' with 'asshole' and it's a bit more accurate."
Angel walked around the desk, turning Cordelia's
chair sideways and kneeling in front of her. He reached up and cupped her face,
looking into her eyes. The color and shape he'd always known to be unmistakably
Cordelia's, but now he noticed what else was clear from looking at them as
well. He smiled as it all fell into place, and he knew without a doubt.
"Cordy…it is you."
"Well, yeah. I've been telling you that
for days now. I swear, you have the thickest head I
have ever…"
Angel silenced her with a kiss before
picking her up from the chair, holding her tightly. "Having you back was
too good. I was afraid to believe it, afraid that as soon as I did, I'd lose
you again."
"You're not going to lose me. Ever. You're stuck
with me."
Angel grinned, and it was one of those rare
occasions that the expression actually traveled all the way to his eyes.
"That's the best thing I've heard in a long time."
Cordelia pulled back, searching his face.
"You mean that? Buffy isn't…"
"Who I want anymore," Angel told
her. "I love you, Cordy. No one's ever made me feel the way you do. You…you
make me forget my heart doesn't beat."
"I love you, too. I always have—even when
I didn't realize how much."
"I'm sorry it took me so long to know
it was you," Angel said. "I hurt you. I'm so sorry."
"But you believe now, and that's what
matters. We can start from here," Cordelia replied.
"Is that what this is for us, a fresh
start?" Angel asked.
"As much of one as we
can have. You've still got a ways
to go before you get back in the good graces of the Powers, but for us, yeah—that's
what this is."
"Good." Angel was still smiling as
he picked her up, carrying her towards the stairs.
"What are you doing?" Cordelia
asked.
"I'm going to make love to you the way
I should have that first night." Angel brought her to the bedroom, laying
her down gently on the mattress. Her hair fanned out on the pillows and he
shivered, taken away by her beauty.
Cordelia reached her arms out to him.
"You said something about making love to me?"
"I think I did say something like
that," Angel replied as he moved into Cordelia's arms just long enough to
kiss her before sitting on the edge of the bed and removing his shoes. She
kicked off her own pair then and started to unbutton her shirt before Angel
reached out and stilled her hands. "Let me."
He unbuttoned her shirt slowly, kissing each
new patch of skin he uncovered. When the shirt was open, he pushed it off of
her before moving to her bra, unhooking the front clasp and letting her breasts
fall out. He leaned in to suck one peak into his mouth, his fingers tweaking
the other, and Cordelia cried out, arching against him. He soon switched sides,
taking the other breast into his mouth while his hand continued to tease the
one he'd just tasted.
Cordelia was grinding her hips against him,
and even with the layers of material between them, he could feel her heat.
Desperate to feel that heat around him, Angel pulled up, ripping his own shirt
off so quickly that some of the buttons snapped. He threw the shirt to the
ground and leaned down to press his bare chest against hers, moaning at the
sensation.
Cordelia reached up and touched his face,
pulling his mouth down to hers. They kissed each other hungrily, the passion
they'd been denied the ability to give in to for so many years finally bubbling
over. They both reached down at the same time to fumble with buttons, legs
moving frantically to push each other's pants off until there was nothing left
between them. Cordelia wrapped her legs around Angel, pushing his hips down
until his cock was resting at her entrance. "Inside me," she gasped.
"Want you."
Angel took hold of his cock and guided it
inside of her, the two of them moaning in shared pleasure. He moved with a slow
but hard rhythm, his mouth locking with Cordelia's, their tongues mimicking the
movement of their lower bodies.
"I love you," Cordelia whispered
when she broke away for air. "I love you so much."
"I love you, too. Forever,
Cordy."
"Yes…forever."
She was so tight, so hot, and Angel found it
impossible to control his movements. His hips jerked frantically, his rhythm
broken, and he pushed in harder, faster. Cordelia bucked and moaned beneath
him, her nails digging into his shoulder. "I want…want to bite you,"
Angel said, looking down into her eyes. "Can I do that again? Does it hurt
you too much?"
"Doesn't hurt," Cordelia replied,
panting. "Feels good…"
Angel's face shifted and she didn't flinch,
didn't pull away. The eyes looking down at her were those of a demon, but she
wasn't afraid. Even after everything, she felt she could trust Angel not to
hurt her. She turned, baring her neck to him, and Angel lowered his head.
Cordelia expected the bite to come
immediately, but instead he nuzzled the marks he'd already made on her neck, then teased them with his tongue. She moaned, her hand
moving up to tangle in his hair and hold him in place.
"Cordy…" Angel said against her
skin, his voice thick with emotion, before he finally sank his fangs in to her
flesh, pulling her blood into his mouth. Cordelia cried out, her entire body
spasming in pleasure. Angel came with her, his fangs still in her throat.
Cordelia lay limp, panting heavily, as Angel
licked the wound on her neck closed. He then moved to her face, peppering it
with kisses while telling her how much he loved her and how glad he was to have
her back. He kissed her lips again before rolling them both over so he wouldn't
crush her.
Her body was shaking lightly, and Angel
pulled the blankets around them, holding her close. Cordelia closed her eyes, a
happy smile on her face. Angel brushed a kiss against her forehead.
"Happy?"
"Mmm… Very."
"Me, too."
"Guess it's a good thing I took care of
that curse then."
"Oh yeah. If you hadn't, I'd definitely be due a staking right
now." He cleared his throat. "About the biting—you're really okay
with that?"
Cordelia opened her eyes and looked up at
him. "Yeah. I know it's
part of vampire sex, another way to be intimate. I want to give that to
you."
"But you're not a vampire."
"Well, duh. But the biting—it feels
surprisingly good. Your bite anyway. It's not like I'm
going to run around offering my neck to every vampire I see." Cordelia
chuckled at his low growl. "Don't worry. My blood is for your consumption
only."
"Better be. I wouldn't be too happy
about having to share my woman."
Cordelia felt a thrill run up her spine at
his possessive tone. She was finally really with Angel… "You won't have
to. I'm a one vamp kinda gal."
Angel gave her a squeeze. "Good."
"So you're okay with the whole spending
an eternity with me thing?"
Angel smiled, moving his head towards her to
steal another kiss. "You better believe it."

There's probably one more chapter after this
one. I know it hasn't been a very long one, but I didn't have a big story arc
planned out for it. I mainly just wanted to explain where Cordelia came from…
Thanks to all the people who reviewed last
chapter—new and regular reviewers. It was nice to see that people are actually
interested in this fic. Please keep it up!
