Hear My Call

Hear My Call
A/N: new chapter. and i'm kinda evil at the end of it. mwahahahahahaaaaaa! [coughs] i'm good.

The change of weather made the air almost pregnant with expectation. As the shift in temperature dropped, the chill that now hung in the air effected faith, causing her to put on more than a tight tshirt and a pair of boxers. The water nymphs had dissapeared back down into the caves, hidding themselves away from the rain. Maybe it disturbed the water too much for them to enjoy their play.

Digging into her bag she pullet out her wallet and stuffed it into her back pocket, before zipping up the tent and dissapearing into the trees. As she wal pul pulling herself over fallen trees and side stepping around piles of sodden leaves, her mind began to tighten. She was sick and tired of trying to figure out this whole buffy thing, pissed off with the fact that the little blonde was all she seemed to be able to think about, and down right fucked off that she was seriously concidering cutting her vacation short.

Fuck.

But for right now, she was staying where she was and to do that, she needed some more food. The only option open to her right now though, was the garage, which charged stupid prices for stupidly small amounts of food. Maybe when she got there she could ask the clerk if there was a mickey-d’s anywhere near. She had a craving for one of their big and fat juicy burgers.

She took a running jump over the huge fallen tree she passed on her way into the woods, and heard the faint noises that accompanies a gas station slowly starting to overtake the sounds of nature that had surrounded her since she got here.

It was as she stepped out onto the black top, and pushed her hands deep inside her jeans pockets that the sky split above her head. And instead of the fine, soft drizzel that was usual for the start of a rain shower, it was that hot, large dropped rain that soaked you through to the bone the second it hit you.

“great. Just fucking great.”

She looked up towards the sky, watching as the rolling black clouds drifted over her head and wondered, if not for the first time, why the world seemed to dispise her so much. It was as she was looking towards the heavens, and cursing the powers that be, when a gap broke in the clouds, the streaking grey of them twsting out of the way so she could get a glimpse of the darkened sky.

A single star twinkled there, shinning birghter than any star she’d ever seen before in her life, and next to it, a very small, very dim baby star was trying so hard to shine just as brightly. Onlyit was stuck in the shadow of such a large star. She snorted. Typical.

But as she continued to watch, it looked as if the brighter star brought the smaller one closer to it, offering it it’s own shine, offering it exactly what it needed; help.

And then the clouds closed over them, hidding them from her view again. She dropped her eyes to the blacktop, watching as the rain smashed intot he groud and hardly even noticing that she was already drentched.

“Do they still have power over you?” buffy’s words flitted through her mind, followed by an image of when she was six, hidding underneath the dinning room table from the nightmare that frequently haunted her nightmares and waking dreams.

As she looked up, she saw a payphone, it’s light broken and it’s door hanging off, but at that second in time, it looked like one of the best ideas she ever had.

“it was really, really fucking shitty.” She swallowed the lump in the back of her throat. She could hear buffy on the other end of the line, and could just about imagine the expression on her face. Kind of shocked, because since they’d met, the only thing buffy really knew about faaith was her name, that she was from boston, and that she got hungry and horny after slaying.

“You there b?”

“yeah, I’m here.” The blonde whispered back to her, as if she was terrified of faith telling her to off off and hanging up the phone on her.

“listen, I don’t do apologies very well, mainly cause the world’s out to screw me. I’m more owed than owing.”

“you don’t own me anything fai.” The brunette cracked a weak smile at the nickname and sniffed under the pressure of the rain that was pounding down around her.

“I’m sorry I’m such a bitch.”

The blonde chuckled down the line. “I like that you’re a bitch.”

“Do you wanna know why?”

“yeah, I got some time.” Faitrnedrned around and leaned her back against the phone box, actually enjoying the feel of the rain as it splattered face.

“*fuck*!” faith dropped the phone as if it were on fire, and technically, it should be. A surge of electricity from the storm had hit the power lines that were held suded ded above the parking lot, causing anything with power to kind of… explode.

She sighed in theback of her throat, knowing that the conversation she was just about to have with the blonde had been cut short, and found herself slightly worried that buffy would think she’d hung up on her. Were as usually she wouldn’t be bothered, but with the little blonde, she knew it’d hurt her. And for some strange reason, she didn’t want to do that for anything in the world.

“faith?” buffy pulled the hadnset away from her head and gave it a puzzled look, her forehead crinkling up slightly as she studied it. faith had just hung up on her? Why on earth would she decide to actually open up to her, and then hang up?

Maybe she was scarred to open up. That’d explain a lot.

She star 69’d and received a message from the phone company that the pay phone that the dark slayer was using was now out of commision due to the storm. Which explain why the call had been cut short, and also gave buffy some hope that faith was actually trying to talk.

She threw the phone over her shoulder to thebed and continued to look out at the rain, watching in fasination as the water that was pouring out of the sky was, in effect, washing the world clean once again. Making way for a fresh start.

She couldn’t help but compare the metophor to faith and herself, and as she thought the conversation, she felt a small bubble of excitement rush up from within.
