Thank you for the great reviews. You have been, as Spike would say, “Bloody brilliant!” I love reading your thought about where this all may be heading.

Chapter Eight
Rupert Giles entered his nephew’s room and smiled at the sight before him. William lay on his side, knees curled in a fetal like position. His kneews were pulled up to his chest, and his fists were tucked beneath his chin. William reminded Rupert of a kitten. All he need do is purr. The eldest Giles smiled. Rupert walked over to the side of William’s bed. He sat down beside his nephew, reached over, and gave William’s shoulder a slight shake. Rupert was startled when William jerked away from his touch, not yet coherant, looking for all the world like a cornered animal. He was instantly reminded of William’s past. Oh, you poor child. He knew that he and William were going to have to sit down and talk about the young man’s history at some point. Wanting to frighten the boy no further, Rupert spoke to William in a softly.
“William,” he began. “It’s alright. It’s only me, your uncle. It’s me. Rupert Giles.” William blinked several times. He squinted at the man speaking to him. What is he going on about? William wiped his hand across his eyes and stretched.
“Huuuhh,” William yawned. “Uncle Rupert?” William brought the palms of his hands up to his eyes, rubbing at them furiously. Rupert found this act to be precious. As awake as he was currently likely to get, William glared at his uncle somewhat put out at having been awaken early. “What time is it?” At his nephew’s mumbled greeting Rupert laughed. The fact that William was not an early riser amused him. That was until he instantly thought of why William would prefer to sleep late. The boy’s obviously spent his nights soliciting clientele. Determined not to let such depressing thoughts cloud his day before it began, Rupert forced a smile on his face.
“Rise and shine William. You have a big day ahead of you.” William closed his eyes and groaned. He fell back on his pillow melodramatically for effect. Wearing a pout that worthy of a three year old, William turned to his uncle.
“Do I have to do this? Can’t I get a job or something.” Looking at William seriously, Rupert spoke.
“William, I know that you do not find the prospect of attending school with children younger than yourself very appealing. However, I think you will come to find that you are not much older than many of the school 's upper classmen.” At William’s unconvinced look, Rupert continued. “I’ll tell you what,” he offered. “If you find that after two weeks you just can not stand the thougf Vaf Valley High for one more day…” William interrupted.
“Valley High? I thought that the name of this town was Sunnydale.” Rupert nodded.
“Yes it is. I’m sorry. I should have clarified that I work in the neighboring school district. Therefore we must hurry if we are to be on time. Shower, dress, and I shall see you downstairs in a bit.” Standing to leave, he was halted by his nephew once again.
“Wait! You were saying, Two weeks and...” Rupert frowned. I should have known I couldn’t escape so easily.
“Yes. Well,” he started. “If after two weeks you find that high school to be too much of a strain, we can look into enrolling you in a trade school. Does that seem fair to you.?” William chewed on his lip nervously, thinking over his uncle’s proposal. Coming to a decision he sighed before nodding. His uncle grinned, pleased that William found the bargaining terms agreeable.
“Very good. Now it is quite imperative that you get a move on if you wish to eat before we leave. I need to pick up a couple of students on the way in.” In a rush to do as he was told, William flung off his bed covers, and stood. Rupert turned to leave before he could see his nephew's lower half. The boy has no modesty.
William showered and walked back into his room with a towel wrapped around his waist. Picking up one of his bags, William tossed the duffel on his bed, and rummaged through it in an effort to find an outfit suitable for his first day of high school. After quickly putting together three outfits, William chose to wear a pair of loose fitting black jeans, a white t-shirt and a matching oversized black denim jacket. He pulled on his boots and stood before the mirror attached to the back of his closet door looking himself over. He rubbed a bit of mousse through his hair, opting to allow some of his natural curls to show. Donning a silver cross on a chain, and a few rings to complete his look, William turned to the mirror once more. He shrugged at his reflection. Donsidering himself suitably attired for his high school debute, William sighed. Guess it can’t be avoided. He made his way to the kitchen where Wesley passed him a bagel.
“Here you are. Breakfast.” Wesley smugly explained. “We have to get going.” William noticed that Rupert was no where to be seen.
“Where’s your da?”
“He’s out in the car.” Wesley relied, reaching for his commuter mug filled with coffee. Balancing his cup and briefcase in one hand, he opened the back door leading to the driveway with the other. “Shall we?” William followed his cousin outside. He shook his head when he viewed his uncle choice of transportation. It bloody figures. Resigning himself to his fate, William slid open the door to the large minivan and climbed inside. Rupert looked up into the rear view mirror, made eye contact with his nephew and smiled. Wesley got in and sat in the passenger’s seat next to his father. Turning, he looked back at William irritably.
“Seatbelt.” He pointed at the strap beside the boy. William shook his head irratibly.
“Whatever,” he mumbled buckling the belt. Rupert slowly backed out of the driveway, cautiously checking for pedestrians and oncoming vehicles. He drove up the street for two blocks before turning right onto a nearly identical road. He continued driving past several homes, coming to a stop in front of a white house with powder blue shutters. The front door opened as the van came to a halt. Out stepped a cute red head dressed in the strangest attire. She wore a pink and green plaid mini skirt, fuzzy pink sweater, white tights, and matching green hat. William smiled at the girl's obvious lack of concern for fashion. Interesting. A short while later a tall, gangly, brown haired boy dressed just as strangly, came through the door. Struggling to hold a donut in his mouth while shrugging into his jacket and hold onto his book bag, the young man made quite a first impression on William. He couldn’t help himself William laughed. If everyone at Valley High is as odd as those two I…. His thoughts were interrupted.
“XAN-DER!!!” The red head yelled. “Come on! Mr. Giles and Mr. Giles are waiting.” She finished on a whine, stomping her foot in irritation. Pulling open the sliding door of the vehicle she stopped abruptly.
“Whoa! Wh-who’s this?” Asked the girl with a sqeak. Her eyes were as round as saucers. William was ted ted to hold out his hand before them for fear of the green orbs popping out of their sockets and rolling around on the asphalt below.
“Who’s who Wills,” asked the awkward tall boy who had now made his way to the minivan beside the equally odd girl. Did he say Wills? William thought to himself. “G-man? Or should I say G-men, you guys want to clue us in here?” He looked over at the red head. “Close your mouth Wills.” The girl closed her mouth automatically, yet did not turn her gaze from the blonde in the back seat. Rupert Giles glared at the boy before answering.
“Xander” Rupert glared at the boy. “I have asked you repeatedly to stop calling me that." He sighed before continuing. "Let me introduce you all. Willow and Xander, I’d like for you to meet my nephew, William Giles.” He turned to face his nephew. “William I’d like to introduce you to the Harris twins. Willow,” The red head smiled. “And her twin brother, Alexander.” The brunette thrust his hand out. William shook the offered limb warily.
“Call me Xander. Everyone else does.” The red head nodded eagerly as if confirming this statement. The twins hopped in the van and instantly began to fire off questions in rapid succession, to all three Giles men at random. William was amazed at the rapid pace at which they spoke. Does the chit ever take a breath?
“How much further til we reach the school Uncle Rupert?” William asked hoping that it would be soon.
“Oh! We still have quite a ways to go.” said Xander cheerily. “There’s still plenty of time for us to get to know one another.” Wesley caught William’s eyes in the rear view mirror. He offered him a sympathetic grin and shrugged. He wouldn’t wish a session of twin babble on anyone. William sat back groaning inwardly. Bloody hell. How can anyone have so much energy first thing in the morning? It was going to be a long ride to Valley High.
So people, how do like the new additions? I’m sorry that this is so short. I’ll post again this weekend.
