Fiction Title:
Blacklust: Demon Hunter
Rating: PG for now
Fandom: Buffy; The Vampire Slayer
Pairings: Guess...this is a Marty
Stue
Disclaimer: I do not own any of
these characters but for myself, aka Raven and parents so I am only borrowing
the rest. No
stealing/borrowing/kidnapping me for any reason without forewarning and request
of my permission, understood? I am
having non-profit fun is all...or attempting to. Oh, and this Spike has no bloody chip in his
head. That whole thing and loving Buffy made
me loose all interest in the shows in the first place. Bloody wankers.
Note: I am going to screw with
Spike...he is going to have a soul (I have not seen all seasons of Buffy but
have read summaries and am just twisting things around) much like Angel that
was simply buried by the demon possessing him...and has been gone since first
born as a vampire. Also, be ready for a
bit of confusion here toward the end.

Blacklust: Demon Hunter
The
Tangled Web He Weaves
or
Who's Line is it Anyway?
Slithering
out of bed, Raven very slowly stood and stretched his entire body, rising up on
his toes and fingers nearly brushing over the ceiling. When he finally melted out of the stretch to
snap back into normal form, he grabbed a change of clothes and moved into the
hall to head for the bathroom. On the
way, he paused near the stairs and tilted his head to listen to nothing. Gaze on the hall ahead, he shrugged and
called down the stairs in answer.
"I'll
be down in a few, just need a shower. He
can wait that long, can't he?"
Apparently
there was a response because Raven nodded and moved on to the bathroom. He took a shorter shower than he had first
intended, but the blistering heat only made him purr in pleasure. Washing his hair despite the length of the
fine, thick strands took all of two minutes.
Dried, dressed and brushing still-wet hair, he headed downstairs without
his usual adornments other than the tattoo on his shoulder.
His parents
were sitting at the kitchen counter sipping their morning drinks and opposite
them was a skinny yet handsome young man.
He had a nice enough bronze-brown tan with sandy blond hair touched in
red highlights and a cocky attitude.
What he wore was simple enough, a tight white T-shirt under an open red
button-down shirt with sleeves rolled up to his elbows. Newer looking dark blue jeans rested about
his hips, reaching down to cover battered brown cowboy boots.
"Ah,
so the lazy bird finally rises!"
"Cousin
Kyo," Raven spoke coolly enough.
The other
man just grinned in a way that was wild and crazy as well as rather dangerous
in one. Raven ignored it and moved to
the fridge for some orange juice. He
settled with cran-raspberry instead and poured
himself a glass before joining the others at the counter. Both parents remained silent, watching the
two as tension filled the air.
Kyo was all golds, browns and
reds where as Raven had his usual pale skin, black hair and jeans with boots
and a sleeveless midnight blue bodysuit clinging to his upper body like a
second skin only to vanish into the black jeans. So different, yet quite alike at once, one
cool and detached and the other heated and focused.
"You
know, I really could complain to the big-wigs about this little issue."
Raven
shrugged. "Cousin Kyo...there is no issue.
I got here first. And as my
Chosen Ones are here along with yours, as long as I leave your Chosen alone, I
am allowed in this hunting ground. It
was agreed and there have been no violations."
The other
one just snickered and shrugged before his grin vanished. Kyo leaned in to
fix Raven with a hard stare.
"That
isn't what I'm referring to, Rave and you know it. What I'm talking about is your featherbrained
move in abandoning your last hunting ground when you still have ten...TEN...prospects
left to snare before you moved on. Not
that I'm really complaining as half of them stepped into my snares once you
were gone, but I'm very curious as to what game you're starting now."
Sipping his
drink, Raven waited for a time, letting things stretch out. At last, he lowered the glass to the counter
and folded his arms on the top of it to fix cool hazel eyes on Kyo's golden-brown ones.
"Very well, I'll give you a reason.
Even without those ten, I still have over twenty more than you in my
grasp. I could sacrifice those ten
without a loss and only a gain. This
place was ripe for hunting and it was a small window in. I took the opportunity...just as you would
have in my place."
Kyo leered suddenly then sat back laughing. Raven's father frowned and caused the son to
glance over at him, just shaking his head slowly. The older man settled back down. Both parents were used to such things being
discussed before them, but once in a while, one or both found something wrong
with the "banter". At last
however, Kyo managed to regain control.
"Yep,
I guess I would have at that. Guess you
aren't the stick in the mud I thought you were, Rave."
"Mn."
"Well,
I suppose I'd better run. I shall leave
these grounds to you for now, as is agreed since you were here first. But remember you have only six months here
before I can force you out and take over."
"Like
you would let me forget?"
Kyo smirked and rose to head for the front door. On the way, he snagged a beaten old dark blue
denim jacket up in one tanned hand.
Pausing, he glanced back at Raven.
For a moment, their eyes met and the air vibrated with sparks as the
two--silently--battled, matching will for will.
Raven's mother clapped her hands sharply, startling Kyo
into blinking and thus loosing. With a
sly smirk, he bowed and slipped out, door closing behind him and latching
before the deadbolt turned and sealed the portal behind him.
Raven
sighed and smiled at his mother.
"Thanks...I wasn't quite up to matching him this morning."
His dad
shifted, one brow rising in silent question.
Raven glanced down at his glass and sighed, turning it between his
hands. Silently, his mother rose to move
over to the stove and take some of the still-warm food from it, fixing a plate
for the youth and sliding it before him.
That brought a faint smile as he took a fork and idly stabbed at the
food.
"Xander fell into the web last night. But He found me, He actually managed to get
into it and almost caught me just as we were finishing. I thought for certain that the Weave
would..."
Sighing, he
set the fork down to look at his mother.
She seemed thoughtful before glancing at the father. The older man just nodded once and looked to
Raven. Suddenly, he smiled. "Thanks, Dad...that might help. We're so close to the Mouth here that maybe
we underestimated how much protection we'd need for our stay here. Which means, if we did, so did Kyo..."
Pausing, he
glanced at the door and frowned for a moment.
Jerking slightly, he looked at his parents before frowning.
"No...not
yet. Remember what happened last time he
and I had to stay under the same roof?
No. We can wait. Just keep an eye on him, I doubt he'll be
able to stay away for long despite the agreement. When he comes in, we have to be ready to get
him in here with us...even if he can't be trusted...the extra power may be
needed."

Willow was
frowning at the book before her. That
was actually pretty normal. What was not
normal was that she had been frowning at the same page for two hours without
once moving. What was even more abnormal
was that Oz was mimicking his girlfriend perfectly. Buffy had since given up on her own reading
and had just realized how the two were just staring without seeing. Cordelia was out on
a date tonight, and Xander had been feeling sick so
was absent from their little night-research gig just like he had been from
school.
Even Giles
seemed a bit preoccupied and he was not staring at anything but the table. It was almost as if everyone except her was
in a zombified state.
To say it was majorly creepy was an
understatement. Only the fact her Slayer
sense had not kicked in saved them all from being trounced. At last, she could no longer take it and
slammed her book closed. Oz literally
jumped out of his seat, Willow fell onto the floor and Giles lost his glasses.
"Okay,
I give. What's everyone so preoccupied
with that you have to creep me out by having staring contests with books and
tables?"
Willow
picked herself up off the floor and almost shakily set the book back onto the
table while calming her racing heart. Oz
sank back into his seat as well, calming his current urge to rip and tear for
that scare. Giles straightened his
glasses upon his face and settled himself down to look at the blond girl with a
disproving glower.
"Buffy,
if you would please, cease treating the books like punching bags unless you
would like to replace them for me."
"Well,
it's just...Xander sounded odd when he called me this
morning. Then in class, I was thinking
about it when I happened to look over at Raven and saw him writing in that
book. I thought I saw Xander's name there crossed out but I couldn't be sure. I mean, reading over shoulders doesn't give
you a clear look because it's rude and...well, rudeness."
Oz also
chose to speak up once Willow's slightly breathless ramble closed. "Yeah, and yesterday after school I saw
Raven at his locker with a note that carried the smell of vampire on it. He left I thought and today I caught the
scent of blood on him. There was even a
moment in the boy's bathroom where he had removed his collar and I saw a mark
on his neck where his hair could hide it."
At that,
Giles looked up and the others seemed interested. Before they could speak however, the Watcher nodded
toward Oz.
"Very
near that time again, is it not?"
"Yeah,
same arrangements as last time?"
"But
of course."
"So,
how did a vamp get a note into Raven's locker when the sun was up?" asked
Buffy.
Oz
shrugged. "I couldn't tell you, but
he acted like he only saw it after everyone was heading out after the last
bell. And it was a thin enough scent it
could have been handled by someone else to get there."
"You
don't think Spike would..." Willow trailed off.
"...bite
and let live? Maybe. It would be feasible as he did say he had no
intentions of harming this Raven, only in meeting him," Giles responded.
"We
should ask him."
"Well he
is standing right here, luv, so ask away."
Again
Willow jumped as Spike slid forward as arrogant as ever yet, slower. The gang watched as the blond vampire slowly
sank down into a chair. He
seemed...tired...maybe even sore somehow.
Oz smiled ever so slightly at the thought that occurred to him about how
the mark on Raven's neck had likely come about.
It helped that he caught the scent of sex still lingering.
"God I
hate it when you do that!" Buffy growled.
Spike
smirked before turning his head to look at Oz, noticing the rare small smile on
his lips. "Why do you think I do
it?"
"So,
fangs been sunk into any human flesh lately?" spoke up the band member.
"As a
matter of fact, yes. Don't worry, it was
no one you three know."
"Watch
it." snapped Buffy.
"Did
you bite Raven?"
The vampire
looked to Willow in faint surprise.
"He volunteered, ducky. I
don't see why you were so intent on protecting him, bloody hell...if he needs
protection, I'm the tooth fairy."
Oz was
actually starting to grin. "Is that
why you're moving so slow?"
"You
let that guy kick your ass, Spike?"
A sly spark
entered Spike's eyes as he just shrugged.
But as Buffy and Willow started to grin, he chuckled and simply shook
his head. "There's more than one
way ta kick someone's ass, Slayer."
With that,
Oz chuckled while Willow actually blushed.
Buffy however, frowned, puzzled.
The vampire glanced over at Giles who had also flushed slightly yet
still seemed thoughtful. In all, the
vampire just shifted a little. Even if
he was a fast healer, sometimes certain pains lingered, deliciously long.

Days passed
and several nights later, Xander was back with the
group, looking a bit paler than usual but with more energy than normal. No one thought to question his change to
black jeans and black shoes, then again they did not really notice it. Only Willow noticed that his eyes were lined
in kohl, but she shrugged it off as maybe just a dare or trying something
new. He was her best friend after all,
he was supposed to be his own person.
Another
burst of vampires was scheduled for the night as part of a ritual to raise one
of the many lesser demons to again attempt taking out the Slayer. It was Spike who brought this news to them
before heading out, just saying he had other business to attend to. Oz was locked securely in the library being
watched by Giles and a colleague of his who had brought in some copies of
information on various demons they had been unable to find.
It was the
same old cemetery as always, filled with new and old headstones, mossy,
vine-covered or clear. Xander paired off with Cordelia
and Willow went with Buffy as they split up.
The exact location of the ceremony was a mystery, but the vampires that
would be rising would point to it since they had to rise close to the spot. As usual, it was not long before the first
vampire clawed its way free, followed by about eight others, all in a circle
around the formerly-risen ones and the witch they were helping to raise the
demon.
The fight
was rather swift, vampires were dusted, Willow got a bit scratched and stained,
Cordelia had another outfit ruined. Xander was
virtually untouched though, even though there was blood on him, he had nothing
more than a single cut on his arm from a vampire fang. But then there were the older vampires and
witch to take care of as well as the still-coming demon. The last vampire bit the dust literally as Xander and Cordelia distracted
the witch so Willow could get a spell out to restrain her magic.
Buffy had a
bit of a hard time with the demon at first but as always managed to get it back
into the portal before it closed thus trapping it for another however many
years. As the portal closed however, she
turned to find a large black crow...or raven...sitting on a broken cross
headstone, watching her. Willow was
finishing up with the witch as Cordelia swatted off
the bugs that had been summoned.
Xander however was standing bit behind the raven, staring
at it. The bird continued to watch Buffy
closely, ignoring Xander as the young man began to
quietly move up behind it. Now, Buffy's
Slayer senses were beginning to act up a bit, telling her there was something
wrong here. Last time she had seen the
bird, there had been zombies and a knight.
Now, the vamps dead, witch knocked out, demon trapped, there was only
the bird.
"Xander..."
No
response. She glanced at him only to
freeze as something literally screamed at her.
Xander's eyes were open and staring, aimed
toward the bird but otherwise empty...and burning. She knew that heat, hell, anyone who knew sex
knew that look. But there were no throes
of passion here, just Xander standing not a foot from
the raven, staring at it. The bird
cocked its head before turning so that one yellow eye rested on her and the
other was more on Xander.
"Xander! Back away
from it...slowly!"
He did not
move, did not react. He just lifted his
head to look at her slowly. His eyes
were...almost yellow with fire. A cry
from the raven snapped Buffy out of the near trance she had fallen into. Jerking, she spun away from the bird as it
launched itself past her...and she twisted to see it rise into the night,
barely missing the swipe of a clawed black gauntlet. The knight had come from nowhere, his horse
having made no sound.
The knight
missed the bird and twisted around so the glaring slit of the helmet's visor
was on Buffy. Dropping into a ready
stance, she waited. But there was no
zombie hoard this time, just the knight and charger. A clank rose as the horse dropped its head to
snort, a wicked-looking horn affixed to the faceplate like a unicorn. Red eyes studied her closely without actual
menace. The knight however moved his
hand to point at her.
"Give
me the thief in black!"
"Look,
pal, I don't know who or what you are, and I don't know what you're looking
for, but you try to hurt anyone on my watch and I'll kick your metal-wearing
ass back to the canning factory."
It seemed
to have made the knight hesitate as he simply sat there, staring at her. A cold breeze rose, making the mixed black,
blue and green plume upon the helmet ripple.
The blackened gold vines detailing the armor seemed to shift and twist
like restless serpents for a moment.
Then, he pointed to Buffy once more.
"You,
Slayer, will bring me the thief in black, that raven that flew my grasp
tonight. Bring him to me..."
Suddenly
the charger brought his head up in a slicing jab, releasing a war-cry as Buffy
leapt out of the way rather than mess with the horn. It was just the opening needed as the
stallion leapt forward in a surge of black power. A blast of frigid wind slammed hard into
Buffy, Willow, Cordelia and the faintly coherent
witch, sending them all tumbling backward over the ground, slamming into
gravestones or a stray tree.
A cry came
as the stallion's fell silent and Buffy grabbed what remained of the now-broken
headstone she had been flung against and looked up. Xander had been
jerked up and into the saddle before the black knight, blood trickling from one
corner of his mouth and falling boneless against the black chest plate, eyes
closed. The charger spun on its hind
legs and started to move past the girls held down by the wind.
The knight
drew in rein though and looked down at Buffy.
For a moment, she could have sworn that she saw green eyes blazing with
light behind that visor.
"...or
his newest pet will die by my hand before the moon dies."
Breaking
forward, the giant black horse took flight, metal-lined hooves ringing on
pavement and sending showers of green sparks flying as it galloped off...and
vanished in a violent explosion of pure shadow.
Shielding her face, Buffy cringed back as something hit her arm, causing
it to burn and sting. The wind was gone
as if cut off and they could suddenly move.
"Xander!"
Willow was
trying to get up but it looked like she had twisted her ankle in the fall. Cordelia was
looking frazzled, more than usual and she pushed away from the again
unconscious witch that had cushioned her fall against a sturdy tree. Buffy rose, looking where the knight had
vanished with Xander before making sure the others
were alright. A tickling sensation made
her glance to her stinging, throbbing arm.
Wicked-looking
shards of black stuck out like porcupine quills from her arm. Pulling one out, cutting her fingers in the
process, she winced and held it up to study it.
But already it was melting away...it was nothing but a large sliver of
black ice. Quickly, she removed the
others in case the strange inky liquid might be poisonous or do something else
equally nasty to her. It was Willow that
drew her attention back to them.
"It--he--it
took Xander!"
"Willow! Breathe.
I'm not even sure if that was Xander..."
"What
do you mean?"
Buffy
looked to the street as Cordelia pulled herself
up. "I'm not sure if that was
really Xander with us tonight...or if it was, I'm not
sure it was just him. But I think it's
past time we meet this Raven face-to-face."
