Disclaimer: I do not own the characters of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel the Series. They are the property of Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy et al. I do not make money from the writing of this, it is purely entertainment. I do not mean any disrespect to the actors who have portrayed these characters. This fic contains explicit Male/Male relationships if you are adverse to this or are under the age of eighteen then please do not read. Thankyou to all the online writers who help keep the Buffyverse alive.
Summary: What if Buffy couldn’t stop the snake demon before it got back to Glory. Starts in the Buffy Season 5 Episode Shadow but then goes AU. Angel is the same as cannon up to this point except that Darla is not visiting Angel in his dreams despite having been brought back by Wolfram and Hart you’ll find out why later. Furthermore, this follows Jenns fic Playing Games found at AdultFanFiction or the Slashaholics Island. You don’t need to have read that to follow this but I do recommend it as it’s a great fic. I moved the timeline back a bit so that by the Season 5 Ep Shadow the boys are a threesome and Spike and Xander are only in Sunnydale to pick up their stuff before moving in with Angel.
Beta: Bubbysbub fought sickness to send this back so she deserves much praise.

Reviews LadyVirgo I don't know what I'd do without your constant feedback. Glad you found Ethan suprising, he had been mentioned twice before in this fic but they were both a bit obscure. As for the portal, you'll just have to wait and see. I'm not giving anything away.
Daeomae Thankyou for being such a loyal reviewer, I really appreciate it.
A/N: A big thanks to Jenn for allowing me to use some of her ideas evident in Playing Games. Buffyworld is back! A big thanks to Howard Russell for bringing such a wonderful resource back online.
Chapter Fifty-One
Willow and Tara stepped up beside Ethan, standing strong and proud against the power of the hellgod. They each grabbed one of his arms and hoisted him up to his feet. Ethan looked from one fierce witch to the other taking in their slender frames and the way their hair and skirts flapped in the wind. They appeared as if they could be snapped like kindling wood but Ethan could sense their separate power that was so in tune in each other and realised that appearances could be deceptive. Maybe together the three of them could do some damage to Glory. Together the chanting stepped up a notch.
Glory was staring at the witches in amazement, wondering where they had come from. Her beady eyes took in the construction site and Angel and Faith waiting to do battle with her, but then she saw a certain peroxide vampire and friends sneaking close to the stairs that would take them up to where the sacrifice was waiting. She began to say something to her minions when a blast of power sent her flying. The blast also sent Willow, Tara and Ethan flying as well, but in completely different directions. Angel winced as Willow crashed into a big pile of wood and he hoped that she would be okay, but at the moment he had bigger fish to fry.
Glory landed back down on the concrete and she immediately stood up as several weaselly minions came running over to her.
“What the frickin' hell did that bitch do to me?” She exclaimed pissed off and not feeling all that well, which pissed her off even more. Gods weren’t supposed to feel sick. The minions looked at each other, not knowing what had happened.
“You look fine. Truly.” The minions grovelled, though they were concerned by how long Glorificus had been distracted. They needed to perform the ritual immediately.
“Big day. I got places to be, big day. Need a brain.” The minions exchanged alarmed glances, she was sounding like one of the brain-sucked people. What had the Witches with the Mages help done? Glory looked up and scoffed at who was right in front of her.
“Suppose I could always use yours ‘cos I can’t have the vampires.” Glory looked from Faith to Angel and back again. She knew that Faith was a Slayer but she wasn’t sure how this Slayer had become so powerful so quickly when she could only have gotten activated when the old one died.
“Okay then.” Faith quipped, “Come and get it.” She said in her best motherly there’s-food-on-the-table voice. Glory started to smile knowing that she was going to enjoy tearing this girl limb for limb, but then she felt nauseous again and almost wanted to throw up, which was not normal, even as Ben she had never thrown up in her life.
“You don't seem very well.” Angel remarked in fake concern while hoping that Spike was getting close to Dawn. They had to sneak through the crazy people without making a sound because if the crazy people realised they were there then they would have a tough fight on their hands, so it was taking a while to get across the construction sight to the base of the tower.
“Your little witch bitches ... gave me kind of a headache there.” Glory remarked bringing Angel’s concentration back to the problem at hand. “But if you think this is gonna last more than eight seconds…”
“I noticed you're talking, whereas in your position, I would attack me.” Faith quipped, trying to piss the hellgod off, which wasn’t hard to do at all. Before Glory could reply at all Jinx interrupted realising just how damaged she was.
“Oh, most sweaty-naughty-feelings-causing one, should we...” Glory however remembering what she’d seen before interrupted him.
“Go guard the girl. This is a ... this is a, a...”
“Diversionary tactic?” Jinx supplied for her.
“Go guard!” Glory demanded. The minions scurried away and as they did they pulled a bunch of crazies away from their work and gathered them around the base of the tower. Angel sighed knowing that it was now going to be that much more difficult for Spike and Xander to get to Dawn. Hopefully though if they could keep everyone occupied for long enough, no one would be able to get up to Dawn until after the deadline had passed.
“It's strange, you're not as blurry with speed as usual either.” Faith quipped getting Glory’s attention back on them because there was no way they were going to let Glory anywhere near that tower.
“The witch...” Glory began but Angel interrupted her.
“It's not her.” Angel produced the Dagon sphere from his leather coat pocket.
“Might be this.” Angel passed it to Faith who pretended to examine it as Glory looked on alarmed.
“I heard it's supposed to repel you. So my guess is ... you probably shouldn't touch it, either.” Faith tossed the sphere at Glory who caught it instinctively. As soon as it touched Glory’s hand the sphere lit up and Glory whimpered in pain. Angel watched as Glory’s face hardened and her hand slowly crushed the sphere. The light went out as the sphere crumbled, but Angel had not been expecting it to be that easy to stop Glory anyway.
“You're gonna wish you…” Glory began but Faith punched her in the face. Glory stumbled back at the sudden attack and Faith took the advantage, kicking her midriff before punching her again and again and again. Angel stood to the side waiting for an opportunity to fight Glory but Faith seemed to have it under control at that moment, getting rid of some of her excess rage and anger.
The minions watched from around the stairs as Faith whaled on Glory. They were starting to get nervous as the fight continued.
“Stand fast! Kill anyone who dares approach! This will be our day of GLORY!” Jinx yelled out.
“Well punned.” Murk complimented.
“Well, it just called out to me.” Jinx explained and then looked down as an arrow lodged itself in his chest. Jinx fell back as Xander ran out with the crossbow that had killed the minion in his hand. Beside him were Spike, Cordelia, Gunn and his old gang. They met the minions and crazies and started fighting them, having decided that there was no other way to get through without a fight. Gunn blocked a minion’s staff while Cordelia started beating minions with her baseball bat. Spike giving a loud battle cry, and feeling enthused by the battle and bloodshed jumped on two minions at once, bringing them to the ground. Xander had picked up a sword and was using it to slice at a minion. He was holding his own but couldn’t get to Spike who was being held around the waist by one minion as another approached. To Xander’s relief Spike kicked out at the one approaching before throwing the other one over his shoulder before beginning to fight them both at the same time. They were no match for the Master Vampire who had been feeding on his Sire’s and Consorts blood.
Angel was now part of the fight, hitting and punching Glory, him and Faith working well together to tag team the hellgod who was having trouble blocking their attack. Faith flipped Glory over and slammed her down on a pile of bricks. Faith tried to punch her again but Glory rolled to the side and Faith ended up punching the bricks. Angel moved back in and Glory grabbed his arm throwing him across the room.
“You know what?” Glory asked standing up straight. Faith went for her again not saying a word punching at the hellgod but Glory easily caught her fist.
“I'm feeling a little better. And now? I'm a little bored.” The hellgod quipped. Dawn chose that moment to yell down at them, having been watching them.
“Faith! I'm up here!” Faith and Angel looked up as Dawn screamed at the top of her very capable lungs. Angel could only just make out Dawn at the end of the high unstable platform. “ANGEL!”
Faith couldn’t stand it anymore she had to get to Dawn, to protect her, keep her safe. She ran towards the tower leaping over a pile of bricks and onto the stairs. A minion confronted her but she punched him and threw him over the side. Glory and Angel both took off for the tower at the same time, Angel just in front of the hellgod.
“Oh no you don't!” Glory grabbed Angel and threw him into a wall with all her strength. Angel hit the wall face first but due to the power of Glory’s throw he went through it and landed on the floor on the other side, unconscious. The wall then slowly toppled down on top of him, burying him from view. Angel was out of the fight, maybe permanently if he wasn’t found. Glory laughed before turning and hearing Dawn yell out again.
“Faith! I'm up here!” Glory wished she had ordered the minions to gag the girl when they took her to the top of the tower, because the screams were becoming very annoying. She would make sure the girl paid when she got up there.
Faith had climbed up all the stairs and was now on a platform getting ready to climb the ladders that led up to Dawn’s platform. She didn’t know where Angel was but she hoped he was keeping Glory busy. She realised her mistake when she was grabbed from behind and thrown into some scaffolding. Faith pushed herself backup and went back at Glory and they exchanged blows. Glory was unable to get a handle on Faith, she fought in a style that Glory hadn’t seen before. Up close and dirty using anything around her and any advantage she could find. Glory hadn’t fought against someone who was unafraid to use Glory’s hair against her or knee her in the groin or use a huge steel bar against her. Faith fought like a wild thing, using every trick she had picked up on the street and in jail. She was glad she had spent her time in jail working out because otherwise she’d really be hurting right about now. As it was she didn’t know if she would ever beat the hellgod, she was able to get through everything the Slayer threw at her.
“Faith!” Dawn screamed completely terrified, and Faith knew that she had to win; there was no place for failure. Faith had to protect Dawn, for Buffy. Faith tried to continue to climb but Glory hit her in the leg and Faith gasped in pain, calling on her inner reserves to keep going. Faith managed to trade blows with the hellgod, giving as good as she was receiving. She was starting to feel it the way she felt the fight between her and Buffy when she had been the Mayors lackey. She felt as exhilarated as she did then but this time was different, this time she was fighting on the right side, for the right reasons. She was fighting to save a world from unending pain and suffering, but most importantly, she was fighting to save a scared adolescent so that she could grow up and become a remarkable woman. This is what she should have been doing since she was activated as a slayer and Faith was happy that she had finally had a chance to be doing what she should have always been doing. Fighting for a person’s life.
Faith resumed her climb up the outer scaffolding knowing that Glory was climbing up the other side. As Faith scaled a pipe Glory kicked her, forcing her to slide back down to the platform but that was okay for Faith, she could try again and while she was, Glory wasn’t completing the ritual. Faith kicked Glory in the face and Glory responded by doing the same to her. As Faith fell backwards she decided that if she was going down Glory would be going down with her so she grabbed tight at Glory’s hair and they both toppled off the tower together.
Spike, Xander and Cordelia were taking refuge behind one of the big construction machines. Xander could easily name what it was but the others had absolutely no idea. Xander and Spike could feel Angel’s pain, they knew he was in trouble but unfortunately there was nothing they could do about it right now. At that moment they were stuck, anytime they tried to move from behind their handy object the crazies would attack and they just couldn’t bring themselves to hurt people who had no say in what they were currently doing.
“Has anyone noticed we're going backwards?” Cordelia asked. Spike straightened up to peek over the top of the machine and got a brick in the forehead for his troubles. He ducked down again, as Xander soothed the area with his hand
“It's crossed my mind,” he answered, annoyed. The crazies around the stairs had obviously decided that where the Scoobies were hiding was too far for them to go to and still guard the stairs leading up the tower.
“As long as ... Faith can keep Glory down ... long enough, it doesn't matter. There's only a few minutes left to start the ritual.” Xander reminded them, still attempting to catch his breath and block out the pain he was feeling from an unconscious Angel.
*****
Dawn was staring down at the fight taking place far below her, she could see where all the Scoobies were, even where Angel was buried under a former wall and she was very relieved that they were there. Struggling to attempt to save her. She also felt guilty because they were being hurt for her. Mostly though what she was feeling was fear. Dawn was petrified and it was all she could do to stop herself from screaming uncontrollably.
Suddenly Dawn could feel someone watching her. She looked up and gasped. If Xander or Spike had been up there with her they could have told her that the strangers name was Doc, that he worshipped Glory, that he was a demon and that he was supposed to be dead after Xander shoved a honking great sword through his chest. Unfortunately they were occupied far below Dawn’s feet so that all she saw was a mysterious old man who might be able to help her get out of there.
“You. You can help me. Untie me. Please. Help me, she's coming,” Dawn begged.
“Well, it seems she's running a bit late, is the thing. And, uh, if her Splendidness can't be here in time to bleed you...” Dawn pulled anxiously on the ropes around her wrists suddenly knowing that he was definitely not on her side and not liking any reason she could come up with for him being on the top of the tower.
“Hey! Kid. Wanna see a trick?” Dawn didn’t say a word just watched the man fearfully. Doc pulled out a large shiny knife and held it in front of her face. Dawn gasped cringing and moving, as far back as she could which wasn’t far at all. She knew in that moment that this person would cut her that her blood would open up the dimensions so that they bled into each other. She would cause Armageddon and her friends would die in vain
