A/N: I am so sorry for the
lack of updates. Life has been giving me a bit of grief for the past months and
unfortunately my stories have paid the price. But I have too much time to throw
around so I’m going to sit down and start working on chapter 6. So enjoy this
chapter and thanks all for being patient.
Chapter 5
Ella sighed walking through the door of the apartment. She
leaned on the door handle as she took off her shoes and held them in her hand.
She closed the door behind her then walked to her room. She was tired and felt
pretty drained. A nap was in store
before she went out for a patrol. Maybe a good fight could get the
restless….she stopped dead in the doorway. There hanging on her mirror was a
gorgeous, strapless, black cocktail dress. . The way it looked and made was
beyond her comprehensions. She dropped her shoes by the door before going over
to the dress and taking it off the mirror.
“You like it, pet?” Spike asked leaning against the
doorframe.
She looked over at him with a huge smile before nodding.
Tears filled her eyes before she looked away. She was moved and she felt
ridiculous for it. She swallowed. He was
doing too much for her.
“Why did you buy it?” Ella asked softly looking down.
Spike walked into the room and over to her. He pushed up her
face and stared into her eyes. She swallowed searching his eyes for something.
Anything that would explain the way he was acting. She needed a clue why he
would get her an apartment, which was a ridiculous gift at such a ridiculous price, and a dress. Not an ordinary
dress from some sort of cheap seven dollar shop but a thousand dollar dress
that had every detail of elegance and looked like it was made for a celebrity.
She couldn’t understand it. What had gotten into him?
“Remember, love, don’t ask questions. Just be grateful,”
Spike reminded.
Her heart skipped a beat to feel his cool thumb against her
chin. He might be cool to the touch but he made her body heat up and it
frightened her to know he could hear her every reaction without her even saying
a thing. Damn those vampires and they sense of heartbeat.
“Right,” Ella whispered trying to look away.
She felt his cool touch leave her and it made her body yearn
for more. That sent even worse fear through her. Something was happening and it
was not a thing a friend feels. It was something much more that she hadn’t felt
in a long time.
“Put the dress on,” Spike said heading to the door. “We’re
going out when the sun sets.”
She looked up at him with a lifted eyebrow.
“Where are we going?”
“It’s a bit of a surprise.”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Ella slipped into her open toe heels before letting out a
heavy breath. She touched her loosely curled chocolate brown hair. For some odd
reason, she wanted to look incredible, not that it mattered since Spike seen
her at her worse.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Sometime last year…
“Bloody hell, love,
she’s burning up!” Spike said touching Ella’s forehead.
For the past two
weeks, people have been coming down with some kind of illness. Now it was
Ella’s turn to on the wheel of sickness. She had come down with the flu and was
dehydrating at a rapid rate. What was worse there wasn’t a bleeding doctor in
town to even give her anything. The closest place would be LA and that was a
good hour away. It was too far to travel for them.
“You don’t think The First
gave her something do you?” Buffy asked standing behind him. “Like some plaque
or something that could kill us all?”
Spike looked Buffy
with an arched eyebrow before looking back at Ella. He applied the cold cloth
to her forehead. Her eyes were barely staying open and she barely had any color
to her skin. She was practically as white as he was.
“It’s just the flu,
love. She probably caught it from June, Janna…”
“Jenna?” Buffy asked.
“Yeah
that bint.”
Buffy sighed.
“Of all the times we
had to get a flu epidemic in the house! This couldn’t have been the worse
possible time!” Buffy complained. “She’s going to have to stay down here with
you, Spike, until she’s better.”
Spike just nodded and
looked at Ella.
“Is that all right
with you? I’m going to need you to watch over her like a hawk, since you have
that immunity thingy as a vampire.”
“Don’t worry about it,
pet. I got it covered. Go play general to the girls.”
“All right, I’ll bring
down a few of her things that way she can sleep on the mats.”
Spike looked at her
with a frowned brow.
“Mats? Pet, don’t you think that will make the flu
worse? A damp basement floor is no place for the sickly.”
Buffy sighed.
“Fine, put her where
you want, just make sure she never comes upstairs.”
Spike laced his brows
together but kept his mouth shut for the moment. He waited until Buffy was
upstairs before shaking his head. Buffy had truly lost her marbles. He never
knew her to treat the girl
so bloody awful.
Spike put his hand on
Ella’s back when she started hacking. He could hear it come to the point her
heart was constricting and she was wheezing. It was one nasty bug, but he would
get her better. Even when the everyone had given up on her, but they seemed to
be giving up on a lot people, including their leader. It didn’t set right but
the house was driving him bonkers. He wished he still had the crypt. It would
have been a bloody great place to escape to right now. No, pitter- patters of
girly feet above him and he could actually watch the telly.
“Don’t worry, bit, the
Big Bad is looking out for you. You’ll be back on your feet in no time.”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
It took her almost a week to get back to health but Spike
had nursed her day and night. It had been awhile since someone had been by her
side with concern when she was throwing up. It’s not that she was proud of it
but she had to admit, it was nice to know someone had cared enough to sit with
her as she went from death and back. She never understood why Spike cared so
much but like Spike told her, she shouldn’t question but just be grateful. She
truly was.
Ella opened her door before walking out of the room. Her
stomach was in knots and she had no idea why. It really wasn’t a date. It was a
couple of friends hanging out for the night. What they were doing, she wasn’t
exactly sure. She just had to keep reminding herself that it wasn’t a date.
Then why did it feel like one? Why the hell was she so nervous? She clutched
her black purse letting out a breath.
*Breath mints? Check. Lipstick?
Check. Compact, blush, and foundation? Check, check,
and double check. I have everything, then why do I feel like I forgotten
something?* Ella thought being her obsessive compulsive self.
“Bloody hell, pet!” Spike gaped in
awe. He stood there with his mouth hanging open with his brilliant blues
fixated on her.
Ella whipped around and stared at Spike with wide eyes. Not
in shock but in attraction. He stood wearing a tight off-black dress shirt and
black slacks with shiny black dress shoes. His blonde hair was left in its true
crazy curls. He looked so….normal and practically human.
The one thing that caught her attention was just how blue
his eyes were as he stared at her. It was like staring into the ocean in Hawaii. If she had ever
been there, she bet it looked like his eyes. She had never seen him look so
attractive until that point. It wasn’t like she didn’t really notice he was
attractive, she had. She’d noticed how
tight he wore his t-shirts when they were fighting back in Sunnydale. It was hard
NOT to notice how his sleeves formed to his muscles just right. She was a
female and she wasn’t blind. He was an attractive vampire but, tonight just
sealed the deal. Damn, Buffy was lucky.
“Wow,” She muttered with a sigh. “You look…good.”
“I was just about to say the same thing about you, pet,”
Spike agreed.
She noticed his signature smirk and snapped out of her
trance. She had to admit, he did look good. He looked more fuckable than good.
She could have ridden him right then and there on the floor. Good God! She did
not just think that. Spike was her friend not her sex buddy. Oh lordy, what in
the world was she getting into? She couldn’t be happier that Spike didn’t read
minds. She would be so embarrassed by the mental images that were going through
her mind at that point. He on the floor, her on top, both of them screaming in
ecstasy, oh lordy it was going to be a very, very long night.
“I never thought I’d bloody see a slayer blush so red,”
Spike mocked.
She watched him as he stepped a few steps closer so they
were eye-to-eye. She swallowed. It took every inch of her not to jump and kiss
him. Ah hell, she might as well admit it now she was heavily attracted to him.
Much more then she was letting herself admit, but she could not have come to the
conclusion at the worst time possible. She was sure, Buffy would be coming to
LA any day now to see Spike. Buffy did love him and she had every right to him,
as for herself, not so much. Buffy was older and much stronger than….oh god!
She was getting into a pity party over a guy she was close friends with. She
couldn’t be acting any more ridiculous.
“Me? Blush? You have to be joking,” Ella said with cool
tone. She would not give herself away. She just couldn’t do it.
“Right, pet, we’ll play the denial game. I’ll deny I ever
killed a soul,” Spike joked.
Ella rolled her eyes and titled her head at him. She gave
him an annoyed look before grabbing her leather jacket.
