“How about this one then?” Spike pulled out a wine red T-shirt. Willow had bought a few for him in different colors. He’d preferred his customary black but she said there was nothing wrong with a little color in his wardrobe now that he was part of the female set.
“You look fine. It’s just patrolling. What’s the big deal?” Xander didn’t really want to patrol. Now that Buffy was back, she handled patrolling just fine. He would rather stay home with his honey and get some quality lovin’ instead.
But Spike was antsy after being cooped up all day. The sewer access was just as easy to get to from Xander’s apartment as Buffy’s house. But there was really no place he wanted to go during the day. Besides, he was still wary of having other demons know about his sex change. The reaction would range from humiliating laughter to outright aggression. Best not to push things.
Now Xander had come home and Spike was rarin’ for some fighting action. But his pet was proving remarkably reluctant. Spike pulled the T-shirt over his head and crossed his arms, staring beseechingly at the man on the couch.
Xander stretched and yawned exaggeratedly. “I’m beat, Spike. Long day at work. I was hoping for some food, TV and bedtime--not necessarily in that order.” He waggled his eyebrows suggestively and Spike’s lips twitched.
“Nice try, pet. But I’ve been kicking at the walls lookin’ for summat to do and it’s time I did it. So let’s get out there and make the free world safe for the forces of good. Whaddaya say?”
“I say…” Xander walked over to Spike and circled his waist. “…staying home sounds a lot more fun, Mina.” He ran his hand lightly up to cup and rub the breasts with his palm. He had noted the sensitivity of Spike’s nipples and, sure enough, felt a minute trembling in the cool body pressed to his as he made slow circles over the hardening nubs. Xander lowered his head and kissed the vampire deeply, letting his tongue slip out to lick and stroke the pouting bottom lip.
Damn, when Xander touched him like that and called him by his new name, it was all Spike could do not to melt into a puddle. However, he resisted the urge to sag into the fingers now tweaking and pulling the nipples, teasing them expertly, until the tingling turned to the familiar ache.
He swatted those hands away and dodged out of Xander’s reach. “Now now, none of that. No means no, pet. C’mon, just one quick turn around the cemeteries. Then we can come straight home and shag each other’s brains out. Please?” He batted his eyes and Xander resisted the urge to giggle.
“Aw, how can I resist you when you look so cute? Hang on a sec; I’ll get my axes and stakes.” Xander didn’t have the well-stocked arsenal Buffy did. However, she had insisted they all get something in the way of weapons for themselves if they insisted on patrolling without her. Xander favored axes while Willow preferred throwing knives. Dawn wanted to use crossbows but Buffy refused to let her touch them in the house and, without practice, Dawn wasn’t getting anywhere near the “cool” weapons.
Practicing at the Magic Box was out of the question. It was still a shambles after Willow’s attack from last year. Xander had offered to help Anya with the damage, an offer that was quickly but coolly accepted. Just because she was still angry with Xander for leaving her at the altar didn’t mean Anya was going to turn down a good deal. She was nothing if not pragmatic.
The ice between them hadn’t really thawed, though. Even the near-apocalypse Willow had unleashed hadn’t really brought them back together nor resolved their issues. And there was this new thing with Spike to complicate matters.
None of the Scoobies had told Anya about it. Willow, Buffy and Dawn (who Buffy felt needed to be told if only so she didn’t babble out loud about the strange blond hanging around Xander’s apartment) adamantly refused to be the ones to inform the vengeance demon. “Xander, we’ll stand by you no matter what you and Spike decide. But as for Anya, this is your mess, guys. You clean it up,” was how Buffy had put it.
Spike and Xander were understandably worried about telling her the news themselves. There was no predicting how pissed off Anya was likely to be. Technically, she couldn’t hurt them; her power lay in the wishing. But she still had friends among the demon community. Any one of them might be sicced on Xander and/or Spike.
He didn’t want anybody to hurt his sweet Xander. Normally, putting the word out that Xander was under his protection would have been enough to keep most other demons at bay. But Spike wasn’t certain his reputation as a badass among other fiends of the underworld would hold up if they learned he was now swinging with the birds.
Xander was just as worried as Spike. Telling Anya he was seeing someone else and that someone the very same guy she had slept with just last year was definitely a cause for concern. Spike hadn’t been exactly nice when he came back with his soul, either. Anya had told him in deeply aggrieved tones how Spike had smacked her around the Bronze; she would be outraged that he was shacking up with the bleached blond after that.
What might she do to Spike? Wait, she was a vengeance demon who preyed on deceitful men. Would her magic work against a transformed woman like Spike?
He shook his head in frustration. The problem was one he and Spike hadn’t really discussed; talking about exes wasn’t conducive to happy relationships. Besides, Spike might go back to being a guy by the end of the month. Then this whole…thing between them would be over.
They didn’t discuss that either and Xander knew that such denial wasn’t good for any relationship. But he was a guy and Spike was a guy--kinda. Talking about feelings was not a guy thing. So instead they settled for talking about anything and everything else and fucking each other stupid. It seemed to work for Spike. Xander just didn’t know how the demon really felt about it.
They’d been together for two weeks and he was drawing closer to Spike with each passing day. He’d told the vampire how he’d spent his trip across America--albeit a rather short trip. Spike had promised to take Xander with him on his motorcycle some time.
He knew all sorts of fun spots and out-of-the-way places that weren’t to be found on any tourist map. There were deep caves and underground caverns, all-demon singing spots, magical nexuses, meadows of special weeds that gave you an incredible high, friendly half-demons who were always willing to put up old friends. When he talked about those places, a longing to explore and see the world would fill Xander.
Spike had seen and done so much in his time on earth. True, they hadn’t left him with any deep insight or wisdom to impart. But there was such wistful eagerness in his voice whenever he talked about his past exploits, Xander longed to relive them with him. He yearned to see the things that made Spike happy; he wanted to share things he’d done with Spike.
But right now, they had to go on patrol. He checked to see that his stakes were secure and turned around to see Spike staring at him. “What?”
“I was gonna ask you that, pet. For a minute there you were miles away. Care to let me know what’s on your mind?”
“It’s…nothing.” He lowered his head and ducked out the door, ignoring Spike’s worried look.
The vampire knew there was something bothering his Xand and had an inkling what it was. But he was just as reluctant to lay his feelings on the line. This business with Xand was still too new, two weeks old to be exact, and he didn’t want to rush things. But at the end of the month he had to decide if he was gonna be bird or bloke and then this might all be over. The very thought of that caused his undead heart to contract in his chest.
No, he couldn’t say anything yet and that meant Xander couldn’t say anything. Damn, this was all bollixed up. Maybe they should stay at home tonight and hash things out before they got any worse. He sighed needlessly and followed Xander in uncharacteristic silence to the car.
__________
Patrolling turned up quite a bit of excitement. There was a nest of demon eggs lying underground in the sewers. He remembered these creatures well from the previous year when a bunch of them had nearly overrun Sunnydale.
The mother remembered him, too. She ignored Xander and directed the brunt of her attack on the vampire that had robbed her once of her offspring and now sought to do so again.
It was a good thing Xander didn’t understand her furious grunts and screeches. Spike didn’t know if Buffy had informed him of that particular cock-up and the immortal didn’t want to enlighten him. Somehow he didn’t think Xander would take it well that he’d nearly unleashed a plague of flesh-eating demons on Sunnydale’s human denizens.
The mother dispatched at last, disposing of the eggs was a simple matter. He and Xander merely strode up and down smashing the shells with nearby rocks. The mess was awful and the smell even worse. Both human and vampire were gagging as they finished.
“Whew! Oh brother, that is a smell like no other,” Xander complained. “Okay, now can we go home? I want to scrub this stuff off before it requires carbolic acid to remove it.” In spite of his attempts to be careful, some of the demon ick had managed to splatter his jeans.
“Actually, vegetable oil would be better. You could try some of that Crisco Light. What?” he snapped when he noted Xander’s amused expression.
“My my. Aren’t we turning into quite the woman? Know any more household tips, Heloise?” Xander mocked.
“Hey, you think this is the first time I’ve had to deal with demon ooze, whelp? Had to learn how to get the old leather clean after one too many fights with a Chaos demon. You think this is bad? Wait until one of those wankers has dripped his slime all over you.” He recalled Drusilla’s desertion and frowned.
“Whatever. Let’s just get home and get into the shower.” Xander looked down at his dirty jeans and sighed. He really didn’t want to get back into the car with these on but it couldn’t be helped. He just hoped that he could get the demon muck out of the upholstery as easily as his pants. “Spike--WHOA!”
Spike was nonchalantly shrugging out of his torn T-shirt and putting on a new one he’d taken out of the trunk. “Hey! What are you doing?”
The vampire looked up at him. “Changing. What’s it look like?”
“Yeah, but--we’re in public!”
Spike glanced around the deserted area. This street buildings were mainly warehouses and they were all boarded up tight for the night. “No one’s watchin’, pet. And I really needed to change. That stuff was starting to seep through and itchin’ my skin. Besides, the shirt was pretty much of a loss so best to get rid of it. No need to have it stinkin’ up the interior, now is there?”
“I-I guess not.” The quick peek of those delectable breasts had caused Xander’s thoughts to return to their earlier track. Maybe this wasn’t such a bad thing…
Spike paused in pulling on the new T-shirt he’d had the foresight to pack in the trunk earlier and sniffed. Xander’s arousal, faint but getting stronger, drifted to him and he grinned in anticipation. Time to expose the lad to one of his favorite pastimes.
Tossing the shirt back into the trunk, he sauntered over to the dumbstruck man, his tits thrust out invitingly. He grabbed the man and pulled him into a fiery kiss, the tips of his bared breasts scraping the rough material of Xander’s shirt.
Xander stifled his first inclination to push the vampire away. If Spike thought this was safe then he was going along with it. The vampire’s adventurous nature had broken down a lot of Xander’s resistance to new things like outdoor sex. So he allowed the vampire to maneuver him onto the hood of the car.
The mortal sat down hard on the hood as a cool tongue aggressively pushed against his. The agile tongue darted back and forth, first flicking the palate and then massaging Xander’s own tongue until it was coaxed out to tangle with Spike’s.
All the while the demon was slowly grinding between Xander’s spread thighs; Spike could smell his arousal spiraling higher as well as feel the hardening length thrusting up through the layers of denim. Xander was wriggling, trying to get relief from the ache in his groin, when Spike pulled away from him.
Xander protested at the loss of the cool flesh. “Spike! C’mon.”
The vampire pressed a pale finger against his lips in warning. “Mina, pet. Remember what the Slayer said. I’m a bird when we’re in the open.”
“Okay. Mina.” Xander loved the way Sp--no, Mina’s--eyes softened when he said his (her?) new name. But the gender switch was beginning to throw him a bit. In his mind he still saw Spike as being a guy and he wasn’t sure if it was a good thing to start switching at this point if Spike was going to get his bits and pieces back.
Spike could see that Xander was getting confused and decided not to pursue things. Best not to spoil the mood. He pulled the mortal off the car and leaned over it instead. Bracing one arm on the hood, he lifted the short skirt he was wearing.
His pale buns seemed to glow in the streetlight and Xander’s mouth went dry as he caressed each rounded globe and pinched slightly. The vampire showed his appreciation by thrusting up his rear into his hand and purring gently. “That’s nice, Xand. Spit on your fingers now and slick yourself up, willya?”
“Huh? Uh, why, Mina? Aren’t you ready? We can wait if you like.”
The demon looked back at Xander. He realized Xander didn’t know what he was asking. “I thought we’d try something different tonight. There’s no natural lube back there so we need the spit.”
“No natural…?” Xander was sure his face was turning all kinds of red and he knew the vampire could hear his heart pounding in his chest. Mina wanted to go for the backdoor? Even Anya hadn’t cared for that; she complained that it left her way too sore even when Xander was trying his best to be gentle.
The demon grinned at his obvious delight and wriggled his arse against Xander’s hard-on. “Knew that would get your attention, luv. So what are ya waiting for?”
“Give me a sec here, Mina.” Xander shucked his pants down so they dropped around his ankles and then got an idea. He leaned over the demon’s back and held his fingers up to the full lips. “Suck ‘em,” he whispered hoarsely.
Those blue eyes widened at the sound of command in the lad’s voice. Xander was taking control again and the small body underneath his trembled at the thought of his dominance.
Spike considered himself a master vampire; he was always the one on top, so to speak. Deep down inside, though, he’d hated always having to be in charge, always having to be the one to take care of and control everything. It would have been so nice to let go sometimes.
Angelus had always been willing to be the leader, in bed and out of it, but he was such a sadistic bastard when he was soulless. He thought nothing of leaving Spike wrung out and bleeding in bed and then going off without so much as a kiss afterwards.
When the tall brunette vamp had regained his soul, Spike had secretly cherished the idea that Angelus might return and show him the tenderness he’d been missing. But the brunette vampire had disappeared without a trace for almost eighty years and he’d had to settle for Drusilla’s crazed, vicious neediness.
Spike swept all that from his mind. He was with Xander now and the boy loved him. Well, he was fairly sure of it. Xander hadn’t said so but he gave totally of himself in a way Drusilla and Angelus never did. And there was passion and command in the way he carried himself that made Spike yearn to yield in a way he never had with his Sires.
The spit-soaked fingers drew slowly out of his mouth and he moaned as he felt them pushing against his anus. A soft “pop” and they forced their way past the outer ring and began wriggling inside, smearing the thin spittle thoroughly in his passage. Spike sighed and tried to relax his sphincter, whimpering happily as the fingers increased to three.
Xander listened carefully to the moans and cries of the creature he was fondling. Mina had given no indication of pain and he wanted to keep it that way. He’d noted that the blond didn’t have a problem with pain or force but Xander did. It was still weird for him to hurt someone deliberately in bed and Mina’s demands hadn’t managed to overcome all his scruples in that area.
But that delectable arse was thrusting back, the flesh flexing around his fingers, the feminine voice getting harsher as Mina urged him on. He removed his fingers and jerked roughly at his cock, slicking his pre-cum over his throbbing length. “Ready, Mina?”
“God, yes. Fucking hurry up!” came the growled answer. Xander braced himself and pushed in slowly.
A long whistling sigh arose from Spike’s throat as he closed his eyes. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d taken it up the arse. It felt different as a girl but the heat and the sensation of being stuffed full was just as welcome. “Great. More, Xand. Don’t stop there.”
Xander withdrew and grinned at the answering cry as he slid back in, faster this time. He settled his stance and began thrusting hard. The coolness clenched at him each time and he shouted. Damn, it felt so good taking Mina like this. The cold body against his was delightful on the hot Sunnydale nights; it was like an ice cube dripped down his back on a steamy day. He clutched her as he slammed into her arse repeatedly.
The solid weight rocked up against him as the full testicles battered his arse. “XanderXanderXand--give it to me, your hot cock, ooh, feels so fucking good pet, HARDER, give me that stiff meat.” The vampire’s whole body shuddered as Xander’s nails scratched along his abdomen and around the jutting peaks of his breasts. His back bent, body flexing back and forth between those callused hands and solid heat. “HARDER!!!”
Mina was growling in that coarse English accent, whipping him to a frenzied pace. Xander sank his fingers into the quivering pussy and began massaging Mina from the inside.
“GOD!” Spike wasn’t one to pray but he swore he was learning religion in Xander’s arms. The fingers stroked both him and the cock pumping away inside him. The eerie, delightful sensations of being rubbed, poked and caressed bucked up his arousal that much higher and he screamed as he began cumming.
Xander’s hand was drenched with wetness as the vampire’s whole body shook. The sphincter clamped down on him but he gritted his teeth as he frantically tried to think about baseball scores. He didn’t want to cum, not yet. He had a few surprises in store. He waited until the initial orgasm had waned then he pulled out of Mina’s arse and shoved into the slick cunt.
Spike grabbed the edge of the car hood and yelped in surprise. This he hadn’t expected. The next moment his eyes rolled up and his nipples squashed against the car hood as the brunette’s weight bore him down. Spike gasped in encouragement while the mortal drove into him unceasingly. “Yeah, that’s it, pet. That’s what I want. Xander!” The last cry came as Xander reached under him and rubbed his clit.
The man’s feet slipped a little on the hard tarmac but he didn’t let up his pace for a second. The arse was tight but the cunt was gloriously wet. The slurping noises, the white body quivering and flexing as he stroked from ribs to belly, the luscious buns cushioning his hips every time he smacked against them--it was great; it was freaking fantastic. Mina kept demanding more and Xander found himself happy to oblige. Somehow the open air freed him like sex in the apartment didn’t and Xander began bellowing at the top of his lungs.
Almost flattened against the car, Spike shoved himself back to meet those thrusts as much as he could. Xander was yelling in his ears and fucking him like a savage while that heart slammed on his back and Spike loved every minute of it. Spike’s world narrowed down to one still point and his body became stiff as his pussy rippled around Xander’s cock.
“Mina! Oh god, Mina!” Xander couldn’t hold back any longer. His cock jerked hard, the release almost painful, as he gave up his load. He sagged on to the quivering body beneath his, panting hard into her ears. At moments like this he felt as if he were dissolving into his partner, becoming one with her in a way he never had with anyone else. He could hear his name being called in those rough accents and he sighed into the bleached hair under his lips. “Love you, Mina.”
The orgasms were still coursing their way through Spike’s flesh. At this moment, he didn’t mind the weight on his back or the hard, cold surface of the automobile. Thus the final whispered words didn’t immediately register. Then he blinked and tried to turn his head to meet Xander’s eyes. “Whuh? What did you say, pet?”
Xander blushed hotly. He hadn’t meant to tell Mina anything about his feelings and thought frantically about what to say now. “I said you’re lovely.”
“That wasn’t it,” Mina growled. She turned her head to frown at the young man behind her. Xander ignored the hurt look and pulled up his pants. As always he reached to help Mina tidy up but this time the blonde vampire swatted his hands away and huffily arranged her own clothes.
Xander wanted to say something as they drove back into the main part of town. But Mina was staring pointedly out the passenger side window and wouldn’t say a word. [That’s just like a woman. They say they want to talk and then they give you the cold shoulder. Guess Spike’s turned into a real girl after all.]
He parked the car in front of the local Rite-Aid. “Why we stoppin’ ‘ere then?” Mina groused.
“I’m hungry after all that demon killing. Gonna get something to eat.”
“Get me some nachos, will ya?” Xander just grunted in response; two could play the silent treatment game. He slammed the door and and stalked into the store without a backward glance.
__________
Inside the store he couldn’t help but think as he snuck peeks out the window to the car outside. He really didn’t have the right to be so pissed. He was the one being dishonest here. He’d fallen for Mina--fallen for her hard and he was too chickenshit to say so.
But he wanted to know how Mina felt before he committed himself; he’d had his heart torn out last year by watching Anya roll around with the very same dyed blond taking up space in his automobile. It was too much for Mina to expect him to come clean about his feelings to her.
Xander leaned his head against the shelf holding the chips and sighed. Love on the Hellmouth was never easy.
“Xander? What are you doing here?”
Damn, it just got harder. He lifted his head and turned to see Anya standing there with a store basket. She had a pursed, tight-lipped look of anger and hurt on her face but he simply wasn’t in the mood for her drama.
“Hello, Anya, you’re looking well. How’s the vengeance business these days?”
“Fine, thanks to jerks like you. How dare you come back to this place after what you did to me?”
“What I did to--? Oh, you mean the failed wedding thing. See, feeling less than guilty about that these days since the horizontal mambo you had with Spike. And what are you talking about, coming to this place? Last I checked, Rite-Aid was a public space. I can come here if I want, Anya. It’s a free country.”
“Well, it shouldn’t be, not for bastards like you. You know I shop here all the time, Xander. If you had any respect for my feelings, you’d stay away from here when you know we could run into each other!”
Xander stared at her in disbelief. Shit, the woman was serious. And to think, he would have thought such selfish self-obsession cute at one time. “Oh, and by that reasoning I should stay away from the Bronze, too, since you’re conducting all your vengeance on the male sex there.”
“That’s right!”
“Ehhh! Wrong!” he cried out, miming a buzzer. “See, Anya, the world doesn’t stop turning just because you’ve got your vengeance freak on. I’m not going to spend the rest of my life avoiding you or the places we used to go. I’ve gotten over the horrid Anya-and-Xander mess that was our non-wedding. And you know what? I didn’t have to trade in my humanity to do it. But I guess that didn’t work for you if you’re still so upset about it, are you?”
“Oh, you are so lucky your friends like you so much. Otherwise I’d get them to wish such vengeance on you, Xander.”
“You already tried that, remember?” Xander smiled tightly at her startled expression. “That’s right. I know all about your efforts to turn my friends against me. Willow came to me and said you were acting really strange when she met you in that coffee shop. She hugged you all prepared to lend you support, which you really didn’t deserve since you were never exactly Miss Congeniality where she was concerned. Then you say, ‘Hey, let’s talk about vengeance!’ and start nudging her not so subtly to put a hurting on yours truly. When you stormed off, she called me. Then I get calls from Buffy and Dawn about how you’re in real pain because you came to them and when I ask whether you’d been talking about wishes, guess what they told me?”
He leaned closer to her and murmured in a low steely voice. “You know, when I saw you with Spike on that videocam, I felt just as sick as you wanted me to feel. But I never thought of hurting you. That was the last thing I wanted. Guess that shows who was feeling all the true love in our relationship.”
“How can you say that? I loved you, Xander Harris. I wasn’t the one who left me at the altar. You were!”
“And instead of talking things out, you tried to curse me. The way you did Olaf. Just another victim of the Anya steamroller, huh?”
“What’s wrong with you, Xander? You come back here and act all mean and you don’t care one bit about my pain when you’re the one who caused it! It’s because of guys like you that the vengeance business exists.”
“Guys like me? Correct me if I’m wrong but you were human when you took vengeance on your ex Olaf. So I’m thinking it’s because of people like you that the vengeance exists. And stop blaming me for your behavior, Anya. Grow up already!”
“It’s Anyanka to you, buddy!”
“You think I care?” He turned away from her, suddenly wearying of the argument. Anya was a vengeance demon of 1100 years standing but he’d sincerely thought she’d changed. Just shows what a big dope he was.
Then he thought about the demon waiting for him in the car. Would Mina be any better in the long run? Or would she one day revert to type and try to rip Xander’s throat out? What did he think he was doing, taking up with one demonic female after another? What was it they said? If you did the same thing over and over and expected different results then you were either insane or stupid.
He recalled Anya and glared at the woman. Anya stared at him, her face rigid. Then she burst into tears.
Okay, this wasn’t what he’d expected. He looked about him helplessly and then his gaze returned to the sobbing brunette.
“Y-You don’t know how hard it’s been for me! I haven’t been dealing out the vengeance, not really, not the way I used to. D’Hoffryn’s getting impatient, the other vengeance demons are laughing at me and whispering when they think I can’t hear. ‘Oh, Anyanka’s lost it.’ ‘Humanity’s made her soft.’ ‘Step up to the plate, boys and girls, you don’t need to worry about Anyanka stealing your thunder any more!’” She began sobbing again.
Xander tried to steel himself against her tears; he really did. But this was the woman he’d loved once upon a time. He had hurt her in the worst way possible. Sure, he’d been having doubts about the wedding. But he could have picked a better time to abandon her than doing the dump in front of all his relatives and her friends.
He wrapped his arms awkwardly around her and patted her on the back. “Any, I’m sorry. I really am. That was the nastiest thing I could have done. But I just wasn’t ready for--”
“For that kind of c-commitment. I’ve heard that line, Xander.” Her voice was tart even as she sniffled through her tears.
“And I really didn’t--”
“Didn’t want to hurt me. Heard that one, too.”
“Look, I’m trying to apologize here. Do you want to listen or are you gonna keep stepping on my lines?”
“Sorry. Grovel away.”
He sighed and rubbed her back. “Actually, I was all finished. Any, I don’t want us to be enemies.”
“Me neither. I get so lonely at night, Xander. I miss those loud shiny blue pajamas you used to wear. I wake up all achy missing your warm body in bed next to me and your bed hair and bad breath in the mornings.”
Xander’s eyes rolled but over her head where she couldn’t see. “That’s really sweet.”
She peeked at his face, her eyes puffy and red from her crying. “D-do you miss me, too?”
“Um, well…” Actually this was the first time in ages he’d thought of Anya with any tenderness and he remembered the demon still waiting for him.
“I was thinking that if you missed me and I missed you maybe we could have some reconciliation sex. Not that I want to get together with you but because we both need comfort and sex is always good for that.”
“What!” He gaped at her in astonishment, too rattled to think for the moment.
She smiled, taking his shock for pleased excitement. “That’s right. Just because we’re not a couple any more doesn’t mean we can’t have nice orgasms together.” She reached up and pulled his head towards hers for a resounding kiss.
__________
Mina looked moodily out the passenger window and lit another fag. Xander had asked that she not smoke in the car since he hated the smell and it interfered with his driving. But the demon was in the mood to be rebellious since the sex in the parking lot. Besides, that’s pretty much what you did after sex. You smoked or you cuddled and he was too angry for cuddling.
What the hell was the matter with Xander? Did he think she was deaf? She was a vampire, for goodness sakes! She’d heard right well what he’d said. Typical of a bloke; you gave ‘em sex and love and they had to be all macho and hide their feelings. She sniffed, giving in to feelings of self-pity.
Suddenly, her thoughts derailed and she nearly gagged on her ciggy. What the bleedin’ hell?! She was thinking of herself as a bint! When had that happened? The thought made her mind whirl with a strange kind of panic. There was still the option of getting turned back into her old manly self at the end of the month. But that would be a helluva lot harder if she was thinking of herself as a girl.
“Aarrgh!” Mina bashed her head on the dashboard. She was even thinking in feminine pronouns! And why? Because she was stuck in a bint’s body and shagging Xander Harris. He was responsible for this, this, girly attitude. Well, if Spike was going to give up the nuts and berries permanently, there had to be some guarantee from the carpenter beforehand.
Getting out of the car, she slammed the door, flung her fag onto the parking lot tarmac and stomped to the store entrance. She scanned the overhead signs, looking for the snack food aisle. She rounded the corner and stopped dead in her tracks.
Xander had his arms around a brunette female and was kissing her soundly. She couldn’t move, couldn’t think--only stare in shock as the man she loved betrayed her with another woman.
__________
For a moment, the burly construction worker was stupefied by Anya’s assault. Then Xander pulled away from her. “Look, Anya, it’s a flattering offer, really. But…” A choked noise from the end of the aisle caught his attention and he looked up to meet the wounded gaze of his vampire lover. Without a word, Mina turned and pelted out of the store.
“Mina? Mina, wait!” Xander pushed Anya aside and tore after her while his bewildered, furious ex yelled in the background.
“Mina? Who’s Mina? Are you having sex with another female? How dare you replace me, Alexander Harris! You come back here!”
Xander paid her no heed, racing out to the parking lot in time to see Mina slam the door of the car and start searching for the keys. Luckily, Xander had taken them with him. He banged on the car window. “Mina! Open up! I can explain!”
The demon snarled at him through the window. Her eyes were amber and ivory fangs flashed in the lights from the store. But what really stunned Xander was the sight of tears gleaming in the yellow eyes. “Get away from the car, Xander! You don’t want to be around when I get this started!” Then the brunette noticed Mina was trying to hot-wire the car but her hands were shaking so much she couldn’t manage it.
“Dammit, Mina! I’m not going back to Anya.” Xander fumbled for the keys and managed to get the car door open. However, Mina jerked it back from the other side and slammed it again.
“Right. That’s why you were locking lips with her in a department store. Is that why you wanted to come here, Xander? So you could snog with your ex? You could have picked another time when I wasn’t with you!” Mina had gotten the proper wires connected and the car started with an abrupt snarl.
Xander banged on the window again. “Mina, please! Anya kissed me; I didn’t want to kiss her, honest! I didn’t even know she’d be here!” Oh wait. That wasn’t strictly true. Like Anya said, he knew she shopped here. He just hadn’t considered it when he stopped to get food.
Mina ignored him. The car started up and with a squeal from the tires she drove away into the night. “Shit!” Xander swore. His shoulders sagged in defeat and he turned towards the street. Looked like he was walking home.
He saw Anya walking towards the parking lot entrance. Her face was set in hard lines again but her eyes betrayed her hurt. “Who was that, Xander? And what did you mean by saying you didn’t want to kiss me? You were kissing me right back, mister, and you know it!”
“It was out of shock, Anya. You kissed me first and I just went with the flow without thinking. It’s a guy thing; you should know that. But I don’t want you back. It’s over between us. If you wanted to get back together, you should have done something about it last year, say, BEFORE screwing Spike.”
“Well, it doesn’t look like your new girlfriend is going to have anything to do with you either. So ha! to you, Mr. Asshole!” She tossed her head and stomped into the night.
Xander sighed in defeat and checked the pockets of his cargo pants for stakes. He always carried a few with him. It was automatic whenever he stepped out of the house after dark for more than a few minutes. There wasn’t much chance he’d be jumped between here and his apartment. But better safe than snack food for some hungry vamp.
__________
Mina flung the apartment door open so hard the doorknob left a sizeable dent in the adjacent wall. She slammed it shut and fell on the couch, sobbing her heart out. Dammit, dammit, damn that boy to hell! How could he do this to her, after all they’d shared? When was she going to learn not to entrust her feelings to humans? They couldn’t be trusted, the whole stinkin’ lot of them!
Fresh tears poured down Mina’s face as she recalled Drusilla. For the first time in years she thought of her dark princess and remembered in excruciating detail how she’d tried to use her to manipulate Buffy. God, that had been an awful way to treat the lovely brunette vampire who’d sired him. They’d played, killed and fucked together for 120-odd years and she’d used her as a bargaining chip for the Slayer’s love. When Mina thought of it in that light, that was really low behavior. Shit, she’d been no better than Angel when he’d killed his Sire for Buffy.
Drusilla had been faithful to him. Well, as faithful as a vampire could be. She’d wander off to screw other demons and the occasional human before making a meal of ‘em. But she loved Spike deep down so she could be forgiven. Besides she was completely nutters. What excuse did Harris have?
Mina sat up, hugging her knees. How long could this have been going on? Now that she thought of it, she couldn’t recall Xander ever coming home smelling of Anya. Maybe he’d been telling the truth back at the store. But that kiss was pretty damning.
Sod this. Like Anya, she was bloody well fed up with this human crap. Time to get in touch with the inner Spike. She’d get her stones back and then get out of this shitty little burg.
A feeling of power surged up in her as she opened the closet door and stared at R.J.’s jacket. Xander had never removed it from the apartment nor even tried to hide it. He’d left it hanging in plain sight as if to let her know the choice of changing was hers. That was pretty decent of the lad, all things considered.
She reached out to stroke the sleeve with one finger. Too bad this apartment didn’t have an incinerator like old apartments used to; he could just chuck it in there with one throw and goodbye Mina! Hello William the Bloody!
A frantic whisper inside her head said this wasn’t the right thing to do; she needed to talk to Xander and get this all sorted out. There was reason in that voice. The whelp had looked downright frantic back at the store. Mina could still hear Xander’s pleas while he banged on that window.
Fuck it. Her face hardened and she pulled the garment off the closet door hook.

[A/N: Should Spike remain Mina or become William the Bloody again? Let me know!]
