Chapter 5
Why, oh, why was he here?
It wouldn’t move. It stared
at him with big brown eyes while digging her hooves in, refusing to budge. He
tried pushing. It didn’t help. She gave a loud moo, swishing her tail at him as
he circled behind her to try pushing at her rump.
Someone giggled and he
looked up to see Buffy watching. Actually, Cordelia and Lindsey were watching his
humiliation too.
“She’s going to kick you,”
Lindsey said with a telling smirk.
Spike jumped back as the cow
turned her head to look at him. “Stupid animal,” he muttered. Even though
Lindsey was joking, Spike didn’t want to take any chances.
“You’re not stupid, are you
Callie?” Lindsey asked the beast while petting her head. “Come on, he just
doesn’t have the right touch for a girl like you.” Callie was suddenly docile, rubbing
her head against Lindsey’s chest before following him into a stall.
“Thanks,” Spike said,
glancing up to see Buffy giggling at him again. “Go ahead. Have your fun,” he
bit out, turning to head into the house. He stepped in something. “Bloody
hell.” He had stepped in a pile of horse shit. Not bothering to look back at
his friends who were now laughing out loud, he stomped away.
This was ridiculous. Lindsey
didn’t give a crap if he knew anything about animals. If he hadn’t been
thinking with his damn cock, he could be in the house, relaxing. What the hell
was wrong with him? He should get in his car, go back to LA, and risk
Drusilla’s wrath.
“Sorry, man,” Lindsey said
behind him.
Spike turned to look at his
friend. His eyes narrowing at the mirth he saw in Lindsey’s eyes.
“No, you’re not.”
“Not really. You shouldn’t
have been trying to impress Buffy so much.”
“Whatever,” Spike said;
looking around to make sure the girl wasn’t listening. “I’m just not a hick farm
boy. No offense, mate.”
“None taken,” Lindsey
answered with a grin. “Come on, let’s go back up to the house and have a
drink.”
“Now, you’re talking.”
The two men made their way
into the house where Lindsey grabbed a bottle of whiskey and a couple of
glasses. Spike followed him into the study, knowing that something unpleasant
was going to be said. Lindsey had a look of deep concentration on his face. The
one it always held when he was about to do something serious.
Settling into one of the chairs
by the fireplace, Spike accepted a glass of the amber liquid and waited. His
glass was almost half empty when Lindsey finally spoke. Direct enough without
bantering about.
“Stay away from Buffy.”
Too bad he wasn’t going to
listen.
“No,” Spike replied, softly.
“I like her and she likes me.”
“I don’t want to lose our
friendship over this,” Lindsey said. “You’re right. You don’t fit in here. Go
back to LA and forget you ever met her.”
“I said no.”
“You stubborn son of a
bitch,” Lindsey said, slamming his empty glass down on the table between them.
“She may come across all ready for life and sex, but she’s not. Inside all that
bluster, pretty face and ready body, she’s still a kid.”
“No, she’s not,” Spike said.
“Maybe you don’t want me near her because you fancy her. If you do and you’re
going to do right by her, I’ll step aside. Otherwise I’m not going anywhere.”
“She’s like my kid sister,”
Lindsey corrected, standing up. He paced around for a few moments before
stopping in front of Spike. “Okay, promise me you won’t sleep with her.”
Spike laughed. “I can’t do
that either. Listen to me for a second.”
“I should break your nose.”
“We’ve been mates for awhile
now so do me a favor and listen.”
“Say it,” Lindsey ground
out, staring at something behind Spike. “And it had better be good before I
call Hank back out here.”
Spike followed his gaze to a
picture of the two girls. They had to be around twelve, slightly developed,
hovering on the brink of adulthood. Both were innocent, sweet and really adorable
looking.
“I like her,” Spike said. “I
really like her. It’s not just her body, or a rebound thing.” He sighed. “Maybe
it is. I don’t know but what I said to her father was true. I see the person
behind the bluster, face and body. I wouldn’t hurt her for anything and we’ve
been pretty straight up with each other.”
“And you want to fuck her?”
Spike almost wanted to
blush. The two friends had spent hours talking about women, sex, who they
wanted and what they had done, all in graphic details. But this time it was
Buffy and he didn’t want to discuss it with Lindsey. But, yet, he couldn’t deny
it.
“I want to be with her,” he
finally said. “Yeah, I want her but she wants me to.”
“Come on,” Lindsey said with
a laugh. He sunk into his chair again and poured another glass. “She’s not
ready to lose her virginity in a brief fling then have you go on your merry way
with another story to tell.”
“She’s not another story,”
Spike bit out. “I already told you that
I like her…care about her. Besides if she’s determined to lose it, wouldn’t it
better with someone who does care?”
“And what happens when you
go back to school? One of you is probably going to be hurt.”
“And maybe not,” Spike
commented, reaching over to refill his glass. “Maybe we’ll do it, maybe we won’t,
I don’t know.” He shrugged and took a long drink of his whiskey. “I’m going to
spend time with her. Beat me up if you want.”
“What is it with you, man?”
Lindsey asked, refilling both their glasses. “What is it about Buffy?”
“Haven’t you ever seen her
walk out of a room? The nicest, tightest little…”
“Watch it,” Lindsey said,
with a laugh. “I thought you cared?”
“I do but I’m not blind
either.”
“Just do me a favor? Don’t
play her.”
Spike held his glass to his
friends. “To me being a gentleman.”
“Fat chance but, hey, you
never know.”
It wasn’t exactly a blessing
but Spike knew his friend wouldn’t stand in his way of pursuing Buffy. An image
of her ass crossed his mind again causing him to shift in his chair. Yeah, he knew exactly why he was here.
~~~~~~~~
Buffy flipped her hair back
over shoulder then peered into the mirror. Her image made her smile. A little mousse, a little scrunching with her
head upside down, and her hair was all wavy. Thank goodness she had the color
touched up the week before. No roots. Looking down she rechecked her body to
make sure everything was all shaved with no straggling hairs. Nope, legs and
armpits all smooth. Glancing at the door to make sure it was closed she grabbed
the hand held mirror and waved it between her legs. Nicely trimmed but it did
give away that she wasn’t a natural blonde, but she doubted Spike would care
anyway.
After wrapping a towel
around her, she hurried back into Cordelia’s bedroom. The brunette was reading
a magazine and eating some yogurt.
“Okay, make up or no make
up?” Buffy asked, sitting down at the vanity.
“Oh, god, no,” Cordelia
said, with her face scrunched up. “I did the first time I spent the night with
Angel and woke up with smeared mascara. I died of humiliation.”
“Check, no makeup,” Buffy
said, worrying her lower lip. “I brought my flannels. How can I crawl into bed
with him in pajamas that make me look like a kid?”
“Aren’t you pushing the
seduction a little much?” Cordelia said. But like the friend she was she got up
to rummage through her dresser. “Some men do like to be the pursuer.”
“Not Spike,” Buffy said.
“He’s feeling all rejected from this horror of an ex. She really hurt him and
he’s trying to be all noble because I’m still a virgin.”
“Are you sure you want to do
this?” Cordelia asked, turning around to hand Buffy a frothy pink bit of lace.
“I mean, I’m so glad that I waited for Angel. It was so much better being in
love than just getting felt up and dumped a few days later.”
Buffy shook out the garment
or rather garments that Cordelia had handed her. It was a camisole and tap
pants. It would do. Her friend was taller than she was so most of her stuff
would hang on her. This she could make work. She dropped the towel and pulled
it on. The tap pants had to be rolled at the waist but it worked as she checked
herself out in the mirror.
“Quit avoiding my question,”
Cordelia said, shoving a couple of condom packets into the pocket of the taps.
“Is it wrong to look at
someone and just know that he’s the one you want to teach you everything?”
“You thought he was an
asshole.”
“But yet a very sexy one,”
Buffy said, fluffing her hair. It hadn’t happened the first time she saw Spike.
It was the second look at him, when he walked in between her and Riley. The two
men next to each other had made her open her eyes. Riley and she just weren’t
mixy people. He was basically a good guy but wanted Buffy to be the one thing
she swore she wouldn’t be.
Spike on the other hand was
everything she craved. He wasn’t the type to be stuck behind a desk. He had
seen more than a one horse town, crossed an ocean and he could kiss like no one
she had ever met. Yeah, the second look had changed her opinion and the first
touch of his hands on her skin let her know that she wanted him. And there was
no one that couldn’t say that Buffy wasn’t determined when she wanted
something.
“So, you’re sure?” Cordelia
asked one more time. “Best friends and all…?”
“Yeah, I’m sure,” Buffy
said. “A girl meets someone like Spike once in her life and I’m not going to
look back and wonder what if. I’ll know what happened when you take the
chance.”
~~~~~~~~
The door to the study opened
and Spike looked over to see who was there. He should have known it was her. He
had been hoping she would keep her little self upstairs where it was safe. Not
Buffy. She stood there, a beauty in soft pink, her hair soft and shiny hung
around her shoulders in waves, and her nipples were poking through the lace of
the bodice. He sighed wondering if he should send her away. He was tired, half
drunk and feeling too much to make sense of any of it. He opened his mouth to
tell her to leave when she nibbled her lip and she wrung her hands. She was
nervous. Her vulnerability got to him more than any of her bold tactics. It
tugged on his heartstrings.
So, he lifted the blanket so
she could slide in next to him.
