Disclaimer: I do not own the characters of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel the Series. They are the property of Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy et al. I do not make money from the writing of this, it is purely entertainment. I do not mean any disrespect to the actors who have portrayed these characters. This fic contains explicit Male/Male relationships if you are adverse to this or are under the age of eighteen then please do not read. Thankyou to all the online writers who help keep the Buffyverse alive.
Summary: What if Buffy couldn’t stop the snake demon before it got back to Glory. Starts in the Buffy Season 5 Episode Shadow but then goes AU. Angel is the same as cannon up to this point except that Darla is not visiting Angel in his dreams despite having been brought back by Wolfram and Hart you’ll find out why later. Furthermore, this follows Jenns fic Playing Games found at AdultFanFiction or the Slashaholics Island. You don’t need to have read that to follow this but I do recommend it as it’s a great fic. I moved the timeline back a bit so that by the Season 5 Ep Shadow the boys are a threesome and Spike and Xander are only in Sunnydale to pick up their stuff before moving in with Angel.
Beta: Bubbysbub rocks! As always and makes this doubly as good.

Reviews: Thankyou Daeomae for reviewing as usual. Yeah Xander might be screwed if he didn't have Spike beside him to help figure it all out.

Chapter Forty-Seven
Xander’s slumped shoulders rounded, admitting defeat in his own head as they stood in Doc’s home. Spike and Doc were still talking and Xander couldn’t help but listen, even though he thought it was hopeless; they were never going to be able to save Dawn and stop Glory.
“This Glorificus, if it is her ... whoo, she's big city.” Doc explained, attempting to convince them that they didn’t want to go against her.
“She's got Dawn.” Spike justified, and in his mind, it was enough. Spike knew he was never going to give up, never stop going after Glory as long as she had Dawn, no matter how hopeless the situation seemed.
“Right. Well, I may know a fella ... you know, who knows a fella in... in China. He might…” Spike cut the explanation off impatiently.
“How the hell are we supposed to get to China? Teleport?” Spike asked rhetorically but Doc answered seriously.
“I guess.” Spike stopped for a moment, thinking that Doc was acting suspiciously. Spike looks down at the Docs legs. For a moment Spike studied how Doc’s hands were clasped in front of him, standing right in front of a wooden box. Put together with the olfactory information Spike was getting and he knew he was on to something. “You know, if you're in that much of a hurry.” Doc kept on talking, trying to sound dismissive. “Wish you luck.” Spike had had enough.
“You're lying,” he accused, ignoring Xander’s look of surprise and watching carefully as Doc removed his glasses. “And what's more ... I believe you're standing right in front of the very thing we need.” Spike smirked as he called Doc on his lie. Unfortunately Spike wasn’t quite prepared for Docs response; he smiled and suddenly leapt to the left. Spike knew that Doc wasn’t completely human but he wasn’t prepared for Doc to suddenly be behind him. Spike whirled around to find a sword at his throat. “Idiot.” Doc hissed before lunging forward, but this time Spike was prepared for it. He knocked the sword blade aside and attempted a somersault, but the area was just too littered in books and he ended up knocking a pile of them onto himself. Xander moved forward desperately searching for a weapon but finding nothing. Doc opened his mouth to release his super long tongue, it smacked Xander in the chest sending him slamming into a wall, before the tongue retreated into Docs mouth. Xander fell to the floor with a grunt as Doc walked over to where Spike was lying on the floor stunned. “You think only underworld bottom-feeders worship the beast?” Doc asked scathingly, he kicked Spike in the face before grabbing the box off the table and throwing it into the fireplace. Turning around, he stalked back to a still stunned Spike, moving so fast that Spike couldn’t rally himself to fight back.
“Her day is coming, boys!” He grabbed Spike by his shirt. “And when she returns, then you're gonna see something.” Xander jumped up recovered, and kneed Doc in the chest, knocking him away from Xander’s lover. Xander and Doc grappled on the floor as Spike hurriedly pulled the box out of the fire.
“Ow” he complained, not liking to be near fire but knowing that they needed that box and what it might contain. Xander managed to free an arm from his struggle with Doc and reached out to grab the sword. Getting up on his knees he plunged the sword down into Doc’s chest. He wasn’t prepared for the blue blood spurting up at him though. Xander knelt there, blue blood dripping off him and looked over at Spike. Spike stood up holding the box that was still smoking slightly but otherwise undamaged.
“What do we got?” Xander asked wiping the blood off himself as he stood still panting slightly.
“Something worth dying for.” They leave without looking back at Doc lying there with the sword sticking out of his chest, covered in his own blue blood. If they had looked back they would have seen Doc’s eyes popping open.

“I'm hating this, Murk.” Glory complained leaning against a wall in the warehouse.
“And this would be what exactly, your holiness?” Murk asked, trying to pretend that he actually cared what fashion accessory was annoying his vain mistress now.
“Memories. I'm starting to remember the things Ben did. People he spoke with, stuff he wore...” the minions shared alarmed glances, that was something that shouldn’t be happening. The hellgod and the human mortal weren’t supposed to blend like that. “Hmm! Kid!” Dawn didn’t look up at Glory’s call. She was still sitting in a chair in the corner of the room, knees tucked under her chin while the priest minion stared intently at her. Dawn didn’t look up even when Glory’s feet appeared in her line of vision. Dawn wasn’t terrified anymore, now she felt numb, like this wasn’t happening to her but instead like she was watching this whole situation happen to someone else.
“I came ... he came to see you, didn't he?” Glory asked surprisingly gently.
“Ben?” Dawn asked.
“Yeah, Ben. He found you in the hospital And then he was me, you remember?”
“Yes.” Dawn replied dully. Glory whirled to face her minions thoroughly agitated.
“See? She's not supposed to remember that! Nobody should!” She rubbed her chest anxiously feeling ill. “The cloak between Ben and me is fading! I almost helped her! He…” Glory turned back to Dawn feeling confused, an emotion that she had never felt before and it was overwhelming her. “I wanted to… I can't do this!” She groaned. Whirling around again she aggressively grabbed the priest minion by the front of his robes.
“Get him out of me.” She pleaded desperately.
“What?” The priest asked, completely unsure of what Glory wanted.
“Ben!” Glory cried in complete frustration. “The human meat-sack who's infecting me. Do your mojo, make an incision, or removal, or whatever you've gotta do. Help me! I'm ... I'm thinking Ben's thoughts, and ... and I'm feeling his feelings! And ... uh! I...” Suddenly she was gone and in her place was Ben who finished her sentence for her.
“...can't kill the girl.” Just as suddenly Ben was gone and Glory was standing there again with a full memory of what had just happened.
“Damn it.” Glory swore before collapsing on the floor as she was still one for melodramatics. Supporting herself on her arms she pleaded with the priest.
“Help me!”
“Th… this I cannot do. You risk terrible magicks in opening the portal. Nothing comes without a price. This ... is yours.” The priest attempted to explain hopping he wouldn’t get his head ripped off.
“Gods don't pay.” Glory insisted. Standing up, she marched over to Dawn, furiously grabbing the girl by her throat and pulling her to her feet. Dawn gasped as if waking up from a dream.
“We do this now!” Glory insisted, staring at Dawn in hate. The minions were immediately on their feet as Dawn gasped and chocked as she could not breathe with Glory’s chokehold around her throat.
“Glorificus, wait! Kill the key now and all will be lost!” Murk pleaded with the irrational hellgod.
“We'll be stuck on this mortal plane forever!” Jinx added hoping to sway his mistress from this path.
“All right, you're right.” Glory finally released Dawn who staggered back, no longer almost catatonic. “It's cool. I'm just a little emotional right now... which, if you're into irony, is funny.” Glory laughed, but there was a hysterical note to it and the minions shared frightened glances. “Leave. We need a little girl time.” Glory demanded as Dawn clutched at a pillar, trying to regain her breath.
“Goodbye!” Glory yelled sarcastically, wanting the minions to get the message. Soon they were scrambling out of the room as Dawn glared at Glory, not wanting to be left alone with the insane one. Glory put her hands to her face, sliding them down to rub her neck for a moment before gesturing in front of her.
“How do they do it?” Glory asked Dawn out of nowhere. Dawn stared at the hellgod, seriously doubting her own sanity when she found herself curious about what Glory was talking about.
“Do what?”
“People!” Glory exclaimed walking towards Dawn as if the source of her frustration was the most obvious thing in the world. “How do they function here like this in the world with all this bile running through them? Every day it's whoo-oo. You have no control. They're not even animals, they're just these meatbaggy slaves to, to hormones and pheromones and their, and their feelings. Hate 'em!” Dawn finally stopped rubbing her sore neck to stare at Glory in disbelief as Glory paced the tiny room again.
“I mean really. Is this what the poets go on about, this?” Glory thumped her chest in emphasis, shaking her head at the feelings coursing through her before sighing. “Call me crazy, but as hard-core drugs go, human emotion is just useless! People are puppets! Everyone getting jerked around by what they're feelin'. Am I wrong? Really, I want to know.” Glory stared at Dawn, daring the girl to have a different opinion. Dawn kept her head down not sure how to answer the immortal.
“Gonna bleed you either way.” If Glory thought that sentence was reassuring then she was definitely mistaken but Dawn did decide she might as well answer as there was nothing else to do while she was hanging around waiting to die.
“Depends on the person.”
“So you're saying some people like this?” Glory questioned actually curious.
“Some.” Dawn replied defensively.
“Funny. 'Cause I look around at this world you're so eager to be a part of ... and all I see is six billion lunatics looking for the fastest ride out.” Glory smiled evilly, thinking of all that chaos and suffering, it was almost as good as hell, almost. “Who's not crazy? Look around. Everyone's drinking, smoking, shooting up ... shooting each other, or just plain screwing their brains out 'cause they don't want 'em anymore. I'm crazy? Honey, I'm the original one-eyed chicklet in the kingdom of the blind. 'Cause at least I admit the world makes me nuts.” Glory turned back towards Dawn.
“Name one person who can take it here. That's all I'm asking.” Glory got right up close in Dawn’s face and Dawn had to suppress the urge to flinch back. “Name one.”
“Xander.”

They were holding a council of war in the magic box as it was the only place big enough for all of them. The place was a mess, it had seemed that someone had ransacked the place, but their wasn’t much that was actually missing.
“There must be something in the Book of Tarnis that we've missed, something we can use against Glory.” Willow commented as she was now their leading expert on the books with Giles gone and Wesley out of this fight. Angel sighed from where he sat sandwiched in between Spike and Xander on the steps leading up to where Giles kept his more dangerous items.
“Piano!” Kit, one of Gunn’s old gang suddenly yelled out, startling everyone. Gunn rolled his eyes from where he sat on the shop counter next to Faith. Kit’s story was very painful and the sixteen year old street kid had been through more and had seen more than most people had experienced in their entire life. Unfortunately it had also made her a bit dotty.
“Because that's what we used to kill that big demon that one time!” Xander commented and then looked bemused as everyone stared from him to Kit and back again. Cordelia turned to look at them from where she had been staring out the window with a confused frown.
“No wait, that… that was a rocket launcher. What are you talking about?” Xander turned to the straggly female who had first spoken, clearly confused. Angel stiffened beside him at the mention of the rocket launcher which had been used on the judge when Angelus had been loose on Sunnydale.
“We should drop a piano on her. Well, it always works for that creepy cartoon rabbit when he's running from that nice man with the speech impediment.” The others stared at her in astonishment and Xander felt a twinge of sadness because her words reminded him so much of Anya, it was just the type of thing she would say.
“Yes, or perhaps we could paint a convincing tunnel on the side of a mountain.” Spike snarked back.
“Spike stop,” Angel commanded. “Willow have you found anything in that ritual text that Spike and Xander brought back.” After the girls shared a look, it was Tara who answered them.
“Y.. Yes we did, but I don’t think you are going to like it.” Tara was nervous about speaking in front of so many people and really didn’t like being the bearer of bad news but this was something everyone needed to hear.
“What do we know?” Angel asked demanding an answer.
“Um ... well, uh ...according to these scrolls, uh, it's possible for Glory to be stopped.” Suddenly there was absolute silence in the room as nobody even dared to breath. There was a way to stop Glory. It was like a glimpse of hope came back into their hearts as everyone seemed to release the breath they had been holding. Tara couldn’t go on though and Willow was forced to be the bearer of bad news.
“I… I'm afraid it's, um ... well, I've read these things very carefully and there's not much ... margin for error. You understand what I'm saying?” Xander and Spike shared confused looks before Spike quipped.
“Might help if you actually said it.”
“ Um ... Glory ... plans to open a ... dimensional portal ... by way of a ritual bloodletting.” Willow explained.
“Dawn's blood.” Cordelia breathed, realising what this meant.
“Yes. Once the blood is shed at a certain time and place ... the fabric which separates all realities will ... be ripped apart.” Gunn gasped at this news though Spike, Xander and Angel already knew that something like this would happen from their talk to the dying knight.
“Dimensions will ... pour into one another, uh, with no barriers to stop them. Reality as we know it will be destroyed, and ... chaos will reign on earth.” Gunn could feel his old crew tensing and knew that they were now totally committed to this cause, whereas before Gunn was sure Angel would have coerced them to be here.
“So how do we stop it?” Faith asked, business as usual.
“The portal will only close once the blood is stopped ... and the only way for that to happen is, um ...” Willow couldn’t meet anyone’s gaze and just couldn’t finish her sentence but she didn’t need to. Angel understood.
“The only way is to kill Dawn.” He said resigned but he didn’t believe that, they would find another way.
