Disclaimer: I do not own the characters of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel the Series. They are the property of Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy et al. I do not make money from the writing of this, it is purely entertainment. I do not mean any disrespect to the actors who have portrayed these characters. This fic contains explicit Male/Male relationships if you are adverse to this or are under the age of eighteen then please do not read. Thankyou to all the online writers who help keep the Buffyverse alive.
Summary: What if Buffy couldn’t stop the snake demon before it got back to Glory. Starts in the Buffy Season 5 Episode Shadow but then goes AU. Angel is the same as cannon up to this point except that Darla is not visiting Angel in his dreams despite having been brought back by Wolfram and Hart you’ll find out why later. Furthermore, this follows Jenns fic Playing Games found at AdultFanFiction or the Slashaholics Island. You don’t need to have read that to follow this but I do recommend it as it’s a great fic. I moved the timeline back a bit so that by the Season 5 Ep Shadow the boys are a threesome and Spike and Xander are only in Sunnydale to pick up their stuff before moving in with Angel.
Beta: Bubbysbub rocks! As always and makes this doubly as good.

Chapter Forty-Six
Dawn was terrified. It was just before dusk and she had been with Glory for what was coming up on twenty-four hours. They had left from Los Angelus early that morning and after arriving, Glory had proceeded to sleep in what must have been her home before she followed them to LA. Now they were back in Sunnydale and Dawn was being led to a construction site. A construction site that seemed very busy for this time of day when most crews had knocked off an hour ago. On closer inspection she recognised a couple of the people working there, crazy people. As they approached everyone fell to their knees so that Dawn couldn’t see their faces as their procession went through.
“The key. The key.” Dawn tensed as they started chanting out what she was. Dawn tried to move away but Glory had too tight a grip on her arm, a grip that would definitely leave bruises. All noise stopped in the building except for the chant. “The key. The key. The key.” Glory completely ignored it as she swept majestically through, dragging Dawn effortlessly. They swept through a doorway into the back into what once had been a construction office. Dawn was pushed into a chair but was not restrained at all. She knew it would be hopeless to try and move anyway; she wouldn’t even get to the door before Glory had hold of her. The less attention she drew to herself the better, she didn’t want to end up as badly beaten as Spike was when he was taken back to the hotel.
“Unbelievable how annoying those groupies can be.” Glory remarked to Jinx, Murk and another minion that was there, completely ignoring Dawn.
“Uh, they merely sense that tonight at last, the dimensional portal shall open.” Murk suggested to his god, extremely happy that this time was finally upon them. A third minion approached Dawn as she whimpered in fear. He began chanting in a language she could not understand while placing some kind of very cold paste on her forehead.
“Ushering in the long and bloody reign of the great...” Jinx began but then stopped when he realised Glory’s attention was elsewhere. Glory was staring at the priest minion who was chanting over a cowering Dawn.
“What's he doing?” Glory demanded.
“I must anoint the key.” The priest explained but did not grovel like Glory’s other minions.
“Really don't. Go.” Glory replied impatiently with a wave of her hand.
“But…” he began to protest, a dangerous thing to do with an unstable hell god about to be returned to her full power.
“Out! Get out, get out!” Glory screamed, but the stupid priest just stood there until Murk hurried forward and ushered the priest out.
“You know ... you recapture your godhood and unleash Armageddon...” Glory picked up a rag from the table and used it to rub the stuff off Dawn’s forehead surprisingly gently. “All of a sudden everybody wants to be a part of the inner circle.” Dawn scrunched herself up, wanting to get away from Glory’s grip as the hellgod rubbed at Dawn’s forehead some more. Glory straightened up and threw the cloth aside.
“You okay?” Glory asked as if actually interested in the answer.
“I wanna go home.” Dawn told her, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Sweetie ... ohh...” Glory exclaimed in sympathy, taking a pseudo caring approach. The hellgod pulled a chair over to Dawn and sat on the back of the chair with her feet on the seat. Glory would never use anything as common as a chair correctly, she was a god and she could use the furniture anyway she wanted. “You're about to.” Glory told Dawn and Dawn looked up hopefully, not understanding how Glory would just let her go back to LA, but she would take any escape route she was given. Glory saw the look but didn’t laugh like she normally would have.
“Not that fake suburban nightmare the monks cooked up for you. I mean your real home.” The hellgod explained as Dawn began to cry. She had tried to be brave like her family would have been in this situation but it was just too much for her. “As the key! You fit the lock. Well, it's like a lock. Hey!” Glory patted Dawn’s knee trying to cheer the mortal up though she had no idea why she would want to do such a thing. “You want a pizza?”
“No.” Dawn answered the unstable woman quietly, not wanting to offend her and get beaten but not able to deal with her confusing signals either.
“Pillow?” Glory offered looking around the barren space. “I don't know if this thing gets cable. Doubtful.”
“Please. Stop.” Dawn begged, tears streaming down her cheeks, she couldn’t deal with Glory being so nice, and it was nauseating.
“You nervous?” Glory asked in that sickly sweet patronising tone that she could do so well.
“Yes.” Dawn admitted between sobs.
“I know how you feel. It is your last night.” The hell god tried to come over all motherly and caring but it just made her seem more deranged, and Dawn was more scared of this act than the rip-you-all-to-pieces, -I-am-a-god routine. Dawn’s eyes widened in horror at the mention of her death, she’s only fourteen, way too young to be contemplating her death in such certain terms.
“As, you know ... a human.” Glory made light of the matter as if it was no big deal. Dawn stayed limp as Glory picked up the girls arm and shook it round. “This body ... it's just a rental, Dawnie. Being human? It's like a costume for girls like you and me. Being something else, that's what we are.” The hell god explained and Dawn sat up, tears gone.
“Don't.” The teenager ground out firmly, teeth gritted together.
“What?” The witch asked, smiling.
“Don't call me Dawnie.” Dawn was insistent; her would-be murderer had no right to call her by her childhood pet name, and thinking of the people who were allowed to call her by that helped Dawn to become strong in the face of certain death. They wouldn’t greet their death crying and whinging, so Dawn wouldn’t either, no matter how scared she was. Glory looked stunned, giving a surprised laugh while letting go of Dawn’s hand and sitting back.
“Huh. Wow. You know, that actually hurt my feelings.” She remarked, completely stunned.
“I'm sorry.” Dawn whispered, not wanting the wrath of the hellgod brought down on her.
“Not the point.” Glory remarked standing up and pacing past a terrified Dawn. “I'm just thinking, here I am trying to make you feel better, when comforting others ... not part of my life.” Glory ranted, paying absolutely no attention to Dawn, frowning. “And I'm doing it, so I can stop ... feeling so...” Glory patted her chest, attempting to come up with the right word, but this was a feeling she had never felt before, and she was having trouble coming up with the right word. “…um...” She started, snapping her fingers at the mortal, expecting a solution.
“Help me out,” she snapped.
“Guilty?” Dawn answered, still nervous and wishing she could get rid of the quiver in her voice.
“Guilty.” Glory repeated laughing. “That's it!” It takes her a moment to stop and look puzzled as she thinks about it. “But I'm not supposed to feel guilty. I'm not supposed to feel anything. I'm, I'm ... I'm a god. I'm above it. I’m...” Glory stopped her rant to stare at Dawn. “You.” She accused striding back over to the mortal. “You did this to me, didn't you? Some sort of spell, you've been hanging with the wicca, you could've...” Glory paused in her rant as she thought on what she had been saying. “But no. It's not magic. It's something else.” Glory was furious, nobody messed with her and here she was five minutes ago acting like a complete and utter fool. “Still, it is you doing this,” she accused the teenager.
“I ... I'm not doing anything. I swear.” Dawn shook her head, hoping she was believed. What could she do anyway? If she could do something she would have used it to escape by now.
“We'll see.” Glory dismissed her, opening the door for the minions who had been waiting patiently on the other side. “Anoint this thing now!” Glory commanded as the priest minion moved into the room followed by Jinx and Murk. “Know what they're all chanting for out there, Dawnie? Blood. 'Cause we found out your blood is the key to the key!” Glory told the cowering mortal feeling more like her self every second. She watched dispassionately as the priest began marking Dawn’s forehead again. “All I gotta do is bleed you dry, the portal opens up, and I can go home! So knock yourself out, girlfriend. Make me feel bad as you can.” Glory stalked forward until she was right into Dawn’s tear streaked face. “Cause tonight ... you bleed, little girl,” she promised.

Spike, Xander, Angel, Willow, Tara and Cordelia were all in Angel’s Plymouth about half- an-hour out of Sunnydale and attempting to go over a game plan for what they would do once in the town.
“So let me get this straight, you need us to gather as many weapons from the Scoobies houses as possible before meeting up at the Magic Box and coming up with a more definite game plan. What about Glory? There’s still too much we don’t know about her.” Cordelia voiced her thoughts.
“That’s what Xander and I will be doing pet,” Spike explained. “I know someone in this hell hole that might have the information we’re after.”
“But what about Angel, what will you be doing?” Willow asked but before Angel could answer from where he was driving Spike answered for him.
“He’ll be roughing up his contacts for information on where Glory’s plan will go down. Now, uh, don't turn me into a horned toad for asking, but ... what if we come across Ben?” Spike asked Willow but the others as well.
“I… I don't think a doctor's what we need right now.” Willow stammered not understanding where this question was coming from.
“Well, yeah, especially not one who also happens to be Glory.” Angel and Spike shared puzzled looks at everyone else’s confusion. Spike’s eyebrow shot up when Xander spoke next.
“What do you mean?” Angel looked hard at his human lover trying to work out if Xander was having them on.
“You know. Ben is Glory.” Angel told the humans speaking very slowly trying to work out what was going on. If Spike hadn’t remembered, Angel might have thought he was going crazy and imagining finding out about Ben. But now that he thought about it, Xander had been very quiet when they had told the others when they got back to the car outside Glory’s apartment before they left LA.
“You mean ... Ben's with Glory?” Willow asked puzzled her face screwed up in thought.
“With in what sense?” Cordelia asked.
“They're working together?” Tara suggested
“No. No. Ben is Glory. Glory's Ben. They're one and the same.” Spike explained and then sighed at everyone’s confused looks.
“When did all this happen?” Xander asked and the vampire’s eyes widened as they stared at their lover.
“A couple of hours ago, remember? We found Ben’s stuff in Glory’s apartment then the knight general told us that Glory shared her body with a human male. Remember baby boy?” Angel pleaded, but everyone just stared at the vampires in disbelief not remembering any of it.
“You do remember...?” Spike began uncertainly. “Is everyone here very stoned?” Spike was pissed off, this was definitely not normal. “Ben! Glory! He's a doctor, she's the beast. Two entirely separate entities sharing one body. Like a bloody sitcom. Surely you remember.”
“So you're saying ... Ben and Glory...” Xander began.
“Have a connection.” Tara suggested.
“Yes, obviously, but what kind?” Willow wanted to know. Spike was ready to punch something but Angel laid a restraining hand on his shoulder.
“Spike think about it for a minute, its obvious what’s happened.” Spike was smart, but he unfortunately also had a short temper and was prone to act before he thought. Angel knew Spike would get it when he actually thought about it instead of acting on his emotions, which was why Angel was giving him the time to work it out for himself instead of just telling him.
“Oh, I get it. That's very crafty.” Spike laughed sarcastically when he worked it out. “Glory's worked the kind of mojo where anyone who works out her little presto-change-o instantly forgets. And yours truly, being somewhat other than human ... stands immune.” Angel squeezed Spike’s shoulder before putting his hand back on the steering wheel, showing his childe his support.
“So ... Ben and Glory ... are… are the same person?” Willow asked.
“Glory can turn into Ben, and Ben turns back into Glory.” Xander told them slowly thinking through his revelation.
“And anyone who sees it instantly forgets.” Cordelia added. Spike sighed in relief; glad they were finally getting it.
“Kewpie doll for the lady,” he told Cordelia.
“Excellent. Now. Do we suspect there may be some kind of connection between Ben and Glory?” Tara asked and Spike and Angel groaned, as the others seemed to ponder her question, having forgotten the previous conversation. Angel was sure that this trip was going to seem to take a lot longer than it actually did.

Spike knocked on a non-descript door in downtown Sunnydale, Xander right beside him.
“It's always open!” was heard from inside and Spike and Xander entered. The first thing Xander noticed was the fire burning in the fireplace. It was quite a warm night yet a merry fire was burning, warming up the room. The room looked like somewhere Giles would be very much at home in and Xander felt a pang of sadness at the thought of his old father figure. There was a figure sitting at a desk that looked completely human in a dressing gown and slippers sipping from a mug.
“What can I do for you boys? Want some cocoa?” Doc asked, still staring at the book in his hand as they walked over to him.
“No. We need information. We need…” Spike began but Xander cut him off with a personal revelation.
“Ben's Glory!” He yelled, not knowing where the information came from just knowing it was true.
“Who's what?” Doc asked surprised.
“Looks like you remember, pet?” Spike asked.
“ Yeah. I do. Ben's Glory and Glory's Ben. It's like this... fog's lifting.” Xander tried to explain what it felt like but he knew his bumbling words were inadequate.
“Wonderful. But not why we're here.” Spike turned back to Doc. “Hell-god type. Name of Glory…”
“A.K.A. Ben.” Xander interrupted.
“…Has gone missing.” Spike continued. “She's brewing up some major-league bad, and she's nicked the Slayer's kid sister in the bargain.”
“A girl? Poor thing,” Doc pretended to be sympathetic, nodding at Spike.
“Yeah. You got any idea where Glory would take her?” Spike wasn’t there for small talk; he really needed to know what the Doc knew. The Doc closed his book, thinking.
“Glory ... Glory. Oh!” He exclaimed getting up with his book in his hands moving to a side table. “You don't mean Glorificus. Gosh. What do you wanna get mixed up with her for? That's a sure way to get yourselves killed. I hear she's awfully unpleasant. When it comes to hellgods, my best advice ... is get out of the way ... and stay there.” He placed his book on the table still staring at them.
“Love to. Can't.” Spike explained, watching Docs movements closely.
“Well, uh, other than that ... I'd like to help ... but I-I'm a small-town guy.” He told them, closing a drawer and then standing in front of it. Xander felt all hopes he had being dashed. They were screwed. And they weren’t going to be able to get Dawn back
