Giles was surprised to see the four teenagers on his doorstep. “Good evening,” he glanced quickly over the group. “Buffy isn’t with you?” he asked as they all traipsed into the living room. His handkerchief appeared in his hands and he started to polish his glasses.
“She’s okay G-man,” Faith spoke up, “Red just needs some stuff to do a spell and then we’re goin’ ta get her.” “I see,” he replaced his glasses on the bridge of his nose and looked at Willow. “What sort of spell are we doing?” The redhead started to whimper, and Faith sighed, “Right.” She turned to her watcher, “Ya better sit, and get yer hanky out. You’ll need it.” Giles moved across the room to his armchair and sat facing the couch. Willow and Xander nervously sat on the dark leather couch staring at him, while Faith paced back and forth behind it. Cordelia just lounged against the wall in the entranceway. “B’s at Angel’s mansion,” The dark Slayer began. “We found him on patrol, and chained him up there. She thinks he has his soul back. Sez he had it before she killed him.” The slayer shrugged. “I ain’t convinced, so Red’s gonna do a soul spell to make sure.” Giles bolted out of his chair, “Bloody hell! Angelus is back? And you left her with him?” “Don’t get yer tweed knickers in a knot there, G.” She ran her hand through her hair, “If I’d a stayed there, he’d a been dust the first time he twitched.” “You say that like it’s a bad thing,” Xander muttered. Willow smacked him in the shoulder, “Xander! You can’t say things like that! He’s Buffy’s big love!” Faith’s eyes traveled over to the other brunette in the room. She saw a flicker of something in her eyes. ‘Seems somebody’s not as immune to this as we thought.’ “It still sounds like a good idea,” he mumbled as pulled away from the irate redhead. “As I was sayin’,” Faith focused the conversation back on her. “We need to do a spell ta make sure it’s him.” She paused for a second, “Can ya get the stuff Red needs, and we’ll be gone.” Giles stared at her for a moment, before his brain finally caught up to what was going on. “You need to do a spell to see if Angel is Angelus or Angel?” Xander’s head tilted to the side, “It sounds a lot more complicated when you say it like that.” Willow’s arm shot out and smacked him on the shoulder. He glared at her briefly, before turning away. “You in or out, G?” Faith refocused everyone’s attention. “What?” he snapped his head around, “Yes, yes, I’ll be going with you.” He turned and faced into the dining room, “Willow, tell me what you need.” The redhead followed him out of the room. Cordelia stood up and walked toward Faith, “I’m not going to have room in my car for everyone. Any ideas? Because I’m definitely not, making two trips.” Faith nodded, “I get ya.” She looked at Xander for a second, “Yeah,” she nodded her head as she made up her mind. She looked at Cordelia, “I’ll get G to take Red and Xand in his car, and we’ll meet ‘em there.” She bit her lip and looked away, bringing her gaze back to the cheerleader, she sighed, “Okay if we make a stop?” Cordelia’s eyes narrowed, her lips in a thin line, “I’m not going to like this am I?” Faith smirked, “Prob’ly not.” The brunette rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, “What?” “Ya know that all night butcher shop on 4th at Main?” Cordelia nodded slightly, her glare fixed steadily on Faith. The slayer gulped and continued on, “I think one o’ the reasons Fang-boy is a little less than his usual, dead, self is cuz he ain’t been eatin’ properly.” She eyed the fuming girl in front of her. She could hear the tap of a stiletto clad toe clicking on the hardwood. A small drop of sweat started to roll down the middle of her back. Her eyes darted around the room, not resting on any object. Cordelia’s gaze never wavered from the slayers eyes. “Ya know,” there was a tremor in Faith’s voice. “Ya know,” it came out a little stronger, “I think I’ll just go and mention it to Giles and get him to pick it up.” She hesitated a moment, “That’d be okay with you, right?” A perfectly trimmed eyebrow arched slightly in response. “I’ll uh, take that as a yes,” Faith spun on her heel and bolted for the dining room. “Wow,” Xander whispered, “I’ve never seen a scared Slayer before.” His eyes went wide as he felt Cordelia’s heated glare settle on him. “Erk!” he squeaked as he leapt to his feet. “I’ll just go see what’s taking them so long.” He was waving his arm in the general direction of where the others had gone. He jogged into the dining room, eyes wide in fright, “How could you leave me in there?” He stage whispered to Faith. “What are you talking about, Xander?” Willow asked. She was sorting through several jars of herbs from Giles collection. Her right hand scrolled down a list on the floor, while her left dipped into the buffet and retrieved what was needed for the growing assortment on the floor. “There’s nobody in the living room but me and Cordelia!” he whispered loudly. Willow quickly glanced up at him, “Are you afraid she’ll bite?” Xander screamed and jumped away as a sultry voice whispered in his ear, “Only if you want me to.” “Cordelia,” Willow was smiling, “Don’t be too hard on the poor boy.” “Why?” she answered as she stepped into the room, “He makes it so easy.” “Yeah,” Willow looked over to the brunette, “You’re right, he does.” “You know, Giles,” she continued, “Most people keep their china in here.” “Hey,” Xander muttered, looking down at the floor, “What do you mean I’m easy?” His head shot up and his eyes widened, “That didn’t come out right.” “Quit while you’re ahead X-man.” Faith was smirking. “No way you gonna save your ass on this one.” The slayer turned to Giles, “G,” she called out to get his attention. “While I was at the Bronze tonight, I dusted one o’ Trick’s minions.” “I see,” Giles had turned away from Willow, “You knew he was one of them because?” Faith smirked, “Cuz when I told him Trick wanted to see him, he followed me.” “Ah,” Giles nodded his head, “Anything else?” “Yeah, do you know a Professor Wurth?” her head tilted to the side as she asked. Giles blinked, “No, does he have anything to do with Angelus?” “Don’t think so,” she shook her head. “The vamp said he was supposed to kill him in the next week or so. Said the guy knows what kinda demon the Mayor will turn into when he ascends.” All four faces were staring at the dark slayer now. “That’s bloody brilliant Faith,” Giles stopped moving. He blinked twice, “We can talk to him and find out what he knows, and warn him off.” “The other thing he mentioned was Kakistos,” Faith spoke quietly. A slight tremor ran through her as she thought of the monster that had killed her watcher. “He gets in on Tuesday and is bringin’ the Box of Gavrock with him.” “Are you okay?” Cordelia asked quietly. Her eyes were locked with Faith’s. The brunette looked away for a moment. “Yeah,” she brought her gaze back to the cheerleader. “Least I will be, once he’s dust.” “Alright,” Cordelia smiled at her. Faith could see the warmth in her eyes, “I’m here when you need me.” Faith smiled in return, “Thanks.” Xander’s head whipped back and forth between the two girls. His index finger was following the path his head took. “Did I just miss something?” Willow blinked, her brow furrowed as she watched the two girls. An idea in the back of her brain was kicking at her, but she couldn’t quite grasp it. It had something to do with the two girls, but it seemed a third element was missing. It nudged around for a moment or two, before evaporating into the mists. “I think so?” she questioned herself. The two brunettes smirked for a second, “You wish,” Cordelia huffed. “Your little head would just explode if you think about it.” Faith grinned, “Like it does every night?” Willow blushed and giggled, while Xander stood there, his mouth flapping and a bright red glow crawling up his cheeks. Faith and Cordy exchanged a quick high five, “Just to easy, X-man,” Faith laughed, “Just way to easy.” “Yes, well,” Giles cleared his throat. “Now that we have the locker room humour out of the way, was there anything else Faith?” “Yeah,” her face became more serious. “The last thing the vamp said, just before I dusted ‘em.” Her brow furrowed, “I ain’t sure if it’s a temporary sitch, or permanent, but he said we couldn’t kill him.” “And he would be?” Giles prompted. “That would be the Mayor.” Faith crossed her arms. “I think it’s now,” she continued. “We can’t kill him now, but once he changes, I think all bets are off.” “What do you mean?” Giles was curious. “How many demons you know that are immortal?” Faith looked at Willow and Giles, her fingers tapping at her sides. “Not many or none? Right?” “Please continue,” Giles was letting her make her point. “Anything we know as bein’ Immortal, usually has a human part to it.” She started to pace back and forth. “Once he turns, or changes, he loses that part of him. Loses his humanity. That’s when we can whack ‘im.” “Yes,” Giles had crossed his arms and was rubbing his chin with his hand as she spoke. “Yes, it makes sense,” he was quiet for a moment. The three teens waited while the watcher concentrated. His eyes focused suddenly, “Very good, Faith. I do believe you’re right. We can talk to Professor Wurth, and deduce exactly what type of Demon we’re dealing with. Then we’ll, as you say, whack it.” The teens chuckled at the watcher. Faith looked over to Willow, “Ya got what ya need, Red?” Willow stood up from where she had been kneeling. “Yup,” she replied as she dusted herself off. She looked at Faith, “What happens if it isn’t Angel?” Faith’s shoulders slumped; she could feel everyone’s eyes on her. Slowly her face hardened, “If that happens,” she paused. “You do the best friend thing and take her out of there. I’ll do what needs to be done.” “Maybe we c-can do another spell to restore his soul?” Willow started wringing her hands, her eyes darting between Faith and Giles. “I did it before, I-I can do it again.” Giles glanced at Faith, “I do believe that Faith is right, Willow.” He took his glasses off and started to polish them. He placed them back on his face and sighed, “We don’t know where he’s been or if it’s really him that’s been sent back. Until we figure that out we need to keep our options, umm, open, shall we say?” “B-but what about Buffy?” there were tears in her eyes now. “Don’t you think she’d want us to save him? He’s her soul mate, they belong together, like kittens and toilet paper, ham and cheese, y-you can’t do that,” she wrapped her arms around herself and hugged tightly. “It’s just not fair,” she whispered. “She gets him back and now you’re going to take him away again.” “I’m with Faith,” Xander spoke up. Willow shot him a withering glare. “Sorry, Wills, but that’s what I feel.” Faith looked at Cordelia, “You gonna weigh in on this?” Cordelia shrugged, “I think we should do the spell first, and decide afterwards.” Faith nodded, “I’m alright with that.” She turned to Giles, “Queen C’s, gonna drive me back to the mansion. Can you take Red and Xand? She ain’t got room for all of us.” “I’m fine with that,” Xander spoke up quickly, “More than fine actually.” He turned to Giles with a pleading look in his eyes. “Oh,” he blinked and looked at Willow. She had a thoughtful look on her face again. That wispy thought had resurfaced again and was floating just out of reach. “Uhh,” she shrugged, “Yeah, whatever.” “That’s done,” Faith rubbed her hands together. “C’mon Queen C, lets go.” Cordelia turned and started to walk away. “Oh!” Faith stopped and turned to Giles. “The thing that was eatin’ pets? We think it mighta been Fang-boy. Can ya stop at that all night butcher and get’em somethin?” She smiled at Giles. “Thanks, G,” she tipped him a quick salute and followed Cordelia out the door. “That was smooth,” the cheerleader said to the slayer. “Are all your moves that good? Because if they are? I don’t see you sweeping me off my feet any time soon.” She walked around the car and stared at the stunned girl. “That’s not such a good look on you either. Now get in.” They drove toward the mansion in silence. Cordelia watching the road and Faith staring out the passenger window. The drumming of Faith’s fingers on the armrest was starting to get to Cordelia. “Is there something you wanted to say?” she said quietly. Faith sighed and quickly glanced at the brunette. “Yeah,” she muttered, “but then again, no.” “So which is it?” Faith bit her bottom lip and stole another glance at the girl. “What’d ya think about Red, spoutin’ off about the vamp?” “You mean did I go off into a jealous rage?” There was a small smirk on her face. Faith chuckled, “Sorta,” she replied. “Me and B, had a little bit of a discussion. She says she’s over him and is lookin’ forward to somethin’ different.” “I see,” Cordelia quickly glanced at the slayer. “And what would that ‘different’ relationship entail?” “We didn’t really hash out a lotta the finer points,” the brunette’s leg was bouncing in time with her fingers now. She swallowed, “It seemed ta go along the lines of the dream.” “I see.” There was a thick silence in the car now. Faith could feel it getting heavier as time ticked by. Stealing glances at the cheerleader, she couldn’t tell what was going on in her mind. ‘Shit,’ she thought to herself, ‘I’ve fucked this up.’ Her fingers and leg picked up speed. ‘I never shoulda asked,’ she let out a breath. ‘When will I ever learn to keep my fuckin’ trap shut?’ Cordelia could see the girl working herself into a panic, ‘She’s afraid she’s screwed this up.’ A small smile crept across her lips. ‘She’s cute when she frets. But I don’t need to tell her that. At least not yet.’ They drove along for a few minutes more. Cordelia broke the tension, “Faith.” The girl had been lost in her own thoughts, and jumped at the sound of her name. “Jesus, C,” she clutched at her chest. “Ya tryin’ ta kill me?” “No,” she had a grin on her face. “You were just wrapped up in your own little world.” She took a breath, “What I wanted to say, Faith, was that I have been doing a lot of thinking. About the dream, about us, about what it means to me.” Faith nodded, “That makes three of us.” She looked out the window at the passing scenery for a moment. She turned back to Cordelia, “Did you come to a conclusion, or ya still not sure yet?” Cordelia briefly glanced over at the slayer, “There are only a few months until graduation. After that? Everything will change. People go off to college, find a job, whatever.” She paused for a moment, “Nothing will matter, what we consider life threatening now? It will all be meaningless once we get into the real world.” “Pretty much,” Faith agreed. “The diff between us is just I’ve been more exposed to it than you guys.” The cheerleader nodded, “It does give you a slight advantage, but I look at it as being more experienced.” She shoulder checked before changing lanes. “I think I want to try some of that experience,” her eyes shot over to glance at the other girl. Faith blinked, and a smirk crawled up onto her face. “How much ‘experience’ did ya want?” “There are those smooth moves again,” Cordelia laughed. “Half the time you sound like you took lessons from Xander.” “And the other half?” Cordelia’s tongue peeked out and quickly wet her lips, her voice dropped into a husky tone dipped in syrup, “All Faith.” “Yow,” Faith started to fan herself, “It getting’ hot in here or is it just me?” “You’re always hot Faith,” Cordy flashed a wink at her. “But you need to remember that I need to be wooed.” “Wooed?” Faith looked nervous. “Uh-huh,” there was a smirk on the brunette’s face. “Wooed. That means flowers, dates, conversation,” she dragged the last word out, “All that stuff that says you ‘like’ me and I’m worth your time.” “Oh,” she stated flatly. “So it’s gonna be all that shit and no lovin’ till when?” Cordelia pulled the car to the curb and parked. She turned to face the slayer, “When we’re ready, there will be plenty of lovin’,” she used her fingers to quote the word. “But until then? A lot of wooing, and if you think I’m bad, wait until the Pastel Princess weighs in,” She laughed as she sat back in her seat, “She’ll drive us both nuts.” “You’re not helpin’ here, C,” Faith growled. She smiled and shrugged, “What did Giles say? Forewarned is forearmed? Or something like that.” She undid her seatbelt and removed the keys, “Speaking of the Pastel Princess, let’s go see what she’s up to.” The two girls got out of the car, and Faith waited for Cordelia to catch up to her. The two stood side by side, staring at the darkened mansion. “Does this mean yer gonna give this a shot?” the slayer turned slightly to face the cheerleader. Cordelia’s eyes unfocused, the slayer watched intently, waiting for the girl to speak. After a few moments the corners of her mouth crooked up in a small smile. She looked at Faith, “It means I haven’t said no.” She started to walk, “Wooing, Faith, look it up.” Faith shook her head and smiled, ‘I’ll be nuts before the end of the first week,’ with a few quick strides she caught up to the smiling cheerleader. The two girls walked alongside the darkened mansion. Cordelia looked up at the blacked out windows and quietly edged closer to the dark Slayer. Faith could feel the buzz from Buffy getting stronger as they approached the rear. The twinge from her vamp-dar was getting stronger as well. A tear stained cry from the house assaulted their ears, “A-angel, it’s me!” “Shit,” Faith started to run. “You’re not her, I’ll kill you!” At the painful roar Faith leapt the over the wall and dropped down into the garden. Fearing the worst she broke through the door into the dimly lit room. Her stake in her hand, her eyes wildly scanned the area looking for danger. She saw Buffy on the far end of the couch curled up into a ball, tears streaming down her cheeks. The vampire was on his feet straining at his chains, trying to get to the blond. “I know what you’re trying to do, you’ll never break me!” Spit slobbered down his chin, the chains chafing his wrists. His feral eyes landed on Faith, “You’re not real.” He panted and jerked on the chains, “None of this is real.” He struggled against his bonds. Pulling, yanking, and trying to dislodge them from the wall. Faith stormed across the room toward the vamp. He faced her, “You’re not real, you can’t hurt me!” Faith stopped just in front of him and stared into his eyes. He paled slightly at the rage he saw there. He growled as she slowly raised the hand holding the stake and placed it against his heart. He leaned forward slightly and his eyes registered surprise at the solid feel of the point piercing his flesh. “Ya wanna rethink that last statement?” He stared at her, “None of this is real.” He saw the anger flare in her eyes. “You’re nothing,” he pushed. “Keep tellin’ yerself that,” she growled at him. Somewhere in the back of her rage she could hear what might have been somebody calling her. If she ignored it, it would go away. She pulled back as her right foot came up between his legs and crushed into his testicles. Her left fist came across the side of his face, snapping his head to his right. He collapsed in a heap at her feet. She glared down at him, “Tell me if that ain’t real when you come to.” She tucked the stake into her waistband and stomped toward the couch. Cordelia slowly walked into the room and watched as Faith sat on the couch and pulled the crying slayer into her lap. “It’s okay B,” she soothed. Her hands moved slowly up and down the blond’s back, “Everythin’s aright B.” Cordelia cleared her throat and Faith looked up. “I’ll just go and leave you guys alone…” her voice trailed off. Faith could feel Buffy shake her head against her shoulder, “Nah,” she said softly. “Stay, the others will be here soon.” She looked at the blond again, “What happened, B?” She was sniffling when she pulled her head off of Faith’s shoulder. With a shaky hand, she swiped at the tears on her cheeks. She let out a sigh, “A-after you left, I w-went over and looked at him.” Her eyes widened, “He’s cut and bruised and scarred Faith.” A couple of tears rolled down onto her cheeks. “H-he came to and he started saying all these things about me not being real.” Faith wiped away the tears. The blond gave her a watery smile, “Why would he say that Faith? What’d I do?” “He’s been in a Hell Dimension, B,” She gently stroked the girls back, “Ya can’t really expect him to be all chipper and smilin’ and shit.” She sighed, “Who knows what happened wherever he was. He’s probably got a shitload o’ baggage with ‘im. It’s gonna be a while ‘fore he’s back to who ya remember.” “That’s true,” Cordelia said softly. Her eyes dropped to the floor, “There’s also the little detail of how he got there.” Buffy’s face paled as her head whipped around to stare at her. Her mouth dropped open and her eyes widened. Tears started to form at the edges. “Sorry,” the cheerleader whispered. “She’s right, B,” Faith responded. “She ain’t bein’ mean, she’s just bein’ honest.” Buffy turned back to Faith and curled into her shoulder, “I-I know.” She sniffled again, “It hurts to remember.” “Well if it is him,” Faith was rubbing her back again, “It’s somethin’ ya’ll have ta work through.” Buffy nodded and sighed again. She curled a little tighter into Faith. The brunette looked up to see a smirk on Cordelia’s face. “You two are so cute,” she mouthed. Faith snorted and glared at her. “You don’t scare me,” she smiled and walked further into the room. “You’re right when you said he went down easy.” She peered at the vampire laying in a heap. “I’ve never seen him fold up so quick. He looked like Xander.” “Who looks like me?” he asked as he walked around a stunned Willow. She had come to a complete halt when she spotted the two slayers wrapped up together on the couch. His head swiveled as he quickly looked around the room, “I don’t see anybody here but us?” A smirk slowly slid onto the cheerleader’s face, “I was referring to when Faith hit Angel, and he went down like a sack of potatoes.” The smirk grew to a smile, “It looked just like you.” “Yeah,” Faith piped up, “But without the girly shriek.” The two girls laughed while a slow red tinge crept into the boy’s cheeks. Faith could feel Buffy giggle against her shoulder. “You agree, B?” she smiled down at the girl. Buffy slowly uncurled from her position and smiled at the dark slayer, “Yeah, when Xander’s fighting there seems to be a lot of girly sounding shrieks.” She turned to face her friends, “Hi guys.” “You okay Willow?” Xander asked. “Is something wrong?” He brought the attention of the group to the redhead. They suddenly noticed that she hadn’t moved since she’d come into the room. She continued to stare for a moment, her gaze focused on the two uncoiling slayers. She blinked twice, “Huh?” She shook her head, “W-What?” A whoosh of air escaped from her chest, “N-no, I’m okay, j-just, it’s been a while since I’ve been here, and it’s making me nervous because I haven’t been here and I don’t know what’s different, but there is something different and I have to do a spell, so it’s not helping with the nervousness, and why were you hugging her?” The whole group was staring at her now. “W-what?” she asked again. “Wow,” Faith shook her head, “That was somethin’ else.” Buffy smiled and walked over to where Willow was standing. “I was upset,” she rested her hand on the redhead’s shoulder. “Faith was just looking after me.” The redhead was looking at her, confusion flitting across her features. “She never used to do that?” She didn’t realize she was talking out loud, “When did they start to get so close?” Buffy’s arm slid across the shoulders of the witch. She gently pulled her against herself, “You’re still my best friend, Wills,” she gave another gentle squeeze before releasing her. The blond smiled, “And you are thinking out loud.” Willow’s eyes snapped wider than anyone else in the room thought possible. A crimson glow appeared in her cheeks, and her chest started to heave. “Breathe, Willow,” Buffy smiled, “you need to remember to breathe.” Willow’s eyes leaped around the room seeing the smiles and grins on all the faces. “Ohh,” she groaned and buried her face in the blond slayers shoulder. “Good job, Red,” Faith was smiling, “Ya bust up the tension really well.” “Its okay, Willow,” Cordelia walked over and patted her on the shoulder. “Thanks for lightening the mood.” “What mood?” Giles entered the room slowly. He delicately held a brown paper bag in front of him. His eyes swept the room, stopping when he saw the Angel’s crumpled form on the floor. “He’s still out?” he asked. He slowly sidled over toward the end table with the lamp. He gently put the bag on the edge of the table and quickly backed away. “Nah,” Faith shook her head. “He was barkin’ like a mad dog when we got back, so I put ’im down again.” Willow’s head snapped out of Buffy’s shoulder, her eyes blazing. “Faith!” she snarled, stepping toward the brunette, “You hit him?” Faith blinked at the hatred in the redhead’s eyes. “It was that, or stake ‘im. So, yeah, I hit ‘im.” She glared at the redhead, “Is that gonna cause a problem?” Buffy pulled Willow back a step, “Everybody calm down, please,” she sniffed, “I don’t need this right now.” She stepped away from Willow, “She did the right thing. Besides, with what he was saying about me not being real? He deserved to get smacked.” Buffy looked at her friends and sighed, “Can we get this over with? It’s been a stressful day.” “Of course Buffy,” Giles responded, “We’ll start right away.” He moved toward the unconscious vampire. “How close to him do you think…” his voice trailed off as he noticed the scorched carpet. He glanced at Angel, then back to the mark, “Yes,” he muttered. He pulled his glasses off and started to clean them. “That makes sense. There must have been something important about this carpet. Something that was very personal to him.” He looked up at the five teenagers, “Whatever brought him back needed an anchor of some sort. Something to connect him to this place. Do any of you know anything about this carpet? Any links to why it would be important?” Faith’s eyes shot to where Buffy was standing next to Willow. She started to laugh when she saw the red tinge slowly creeping up the blond’s throat. “I don’t think it’s the carpet, G.” There was a large smirk on her face, “I’m thinkin’ B, don’t believe it either. Do ya B?” Buffy rolled her eyes at the dark slayer. “Thanks, Faith,” she muttered. “There’s nothing special about the carpet. Last week, I, uh, came by and dropped off his ring.” She pointed at the scorch mark in the carpet, “I left it right about there.” “A ring? Was it an engagement ring? You were engaged?” Willow’s voice ramped up into a screech. “How could you be engaged and not tell me? We’re supposed to be best friends; you’re supposed to tell me these things!” She whirled around to face Faith, “You!” Her pointed finger thrust toward the dark slayer, “You told her not to tell me, you’re trying to take her away from me!” Everyone in the room was staring wide eyed at the redhead. The finger she was pointing at Faith was trembling. “This is what you wanted,” she hissed, “You’re trying to push me out.” “Whoa! Red,” Faith brought her hands up, palms out, “I ain’t said nothin’ ta her about anythin’ like that!” She blinked, “And why the hell would she listen to what I say anyway?” “Willow,” Buffy spoke as she stepped up beside the witch. “He gave me the ring last year. It was a family ring, not an engagement ring, I showed it to you when he gave it to me.” She gently rested her hand on the redhead’s shoulder, “Remember, you said it was a promise ring?” “Oh,” Willow turned beet red, “Ohmygod, ohmygod, ohmygod.” She buried her face in her hands. “I’m so stupid…” Buffy smiled, “No,” she said as she hugged the girl. “You’re just Willow.” Xander looked around, “All this really needs is some popcorn.” He grinned, “The only problem I’m having is trying to figure out if it’s a comedy or a drama.” “Allow me,” Cordelia took a quick step toward the boy and smacked him in the back of the head. She smiled when he stumbled forward a step. “Don’t even pretend you didn’t deserve that.” Xander straightened out, his hand rubbing the back of his head. “Why do people always react to what I say with violence?” he sighed. “You just bring out the best in people,” Cordelia snarked. She walked to where a pale Faith was standing. She looked to where Buffy was comforting a shaking Willow, “You okay?” she whispered. Faith answered with a slow nod. She could see the concern in the cheerleader’s eyes. She closed her own for a moment. “Yeah,” she replied when she opened them again. “What the hell happened?” Cordelia smirked, “A jealous Willow is not a pretty Willow.” Faith blinked, “What the hell does she have to be jealous of?” Cordelia covered her mouth to keep the giggle from sneaking out. Her eyes danced as she stared at the dark slayer, “Think about it for a moment.” She was smiling as she turned away, “Just take a moment and think about it. You’ll get it eventually.” A groan from the corner focused attention back to the unconscious vampire on the floor. “We need to finish this,” Buffy spoke up. “Willow?” she looked down at the redhead in her arms. “Are you okay to do the spell?” “Uh-huh,” she pushed herself away from the blond. She sniffled and rubbed her nose with the back of her hand. Staring at the floor, she closed her eyes and focused herself. A moment later her eyes opened and she was ready. She placed candles at Angel’s head and feet, then retreated a few feet after lighting them and sat on the floor. She pulled the herbs she needed out of her bag and placed them in a mortar. Muttering an incantation she crushed the herbs into a fine powder. When she finished the incantation, she placed the pestle beside the mortar and scooped the powder into her hand. She stood and started to chant again, moving toward Angel’s inert form. Everyone else in the room was quietly watching the witch as she performed the spell. Standing over the vampire’s body, she sprinkled the powder while she chanted. Seconds after the powder touched him, he was surrounded by a light blue glow. Willow stopped and turned back to the group, a huge grin breaking out on her face, “He has his soul,” she beamed. “Isn’t that great Buffy?” she was so happy, “Now the two of you can be together again.” The blond looked to where the two brunettes were standing, “Whoopee,” she muttered. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
