Disclaimer: I do not own the characters of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel the Series. They are the property of Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy et al. I do not make money from the writing of this, it is purely entertainment. I do not mean any disrespect to the actors who have portrayed these characters. This fic contains explicit Male/Male relationships if you are adverse to this or are under the age of eighteen then please do not read. Thankyou to all the online writers who help keep the Buffyverse alive.
Summary: What if Buffy couldn’t stop the snake demon before it got back to Glory. Starts in the Buffy Season 5 Episode Shadow but then goes AU. Angel is the same as cannon up to this point except that Darla is not visiting Angel in his dreams despite having been brought back by Wolfram and Hart you’ll find out why later. Furthermore, this follows Jenns fic Playing Games found at AdultFanFiction or the Slashaholics Island. You don’t need to have read that to follow this but I do recommend it as it’s a great fic. I moved the timeline back a bit so that by the Season 5 Ep Shadow the boys are a threesome and Spike and Xander are only in Sunnydale to pick up their stuff before moving in with Angel.
Beta: Bubbysbub somehow finds time around having a baby to offer her pearls of wisdom

Reviews: Daeomae - Thankyou, I'm glad Glory is portrayed in my fic as a nut job cause that's what I was aiming for, you get to see more of her in this chapter but unfortunately no one goes at her with shearing shears. Hope you enjoy
Lady Virgo - Thankyou, I wrote a long reply on my group
XanderCordy1 - You read this in one sitting? Wow. I have been writing this for most of last year and I update every friday (I only missed one so far). This will be finished, probably in the near future. I'm glad you like it and thankyou for letting me know.
A/N: A big thanks to Jenn for allowing me to use some of her ideas evident in Playing Games. Buffyworld is back! A big thanks to Howard Russell for bringing such a wonderful resource back online.
Chapter Thirty-Nine
Angel groaned as he swam back to consciousness, wondering where he was.
“Angel, ANGEL!” Someone was yelling at him, someone decidedly panicked. Xander. Knowing that he needed to reassure his human mate that he was relatively fine, Angel forced himself to speak.
“Did you get the details of the truck that hit me?” He asked groaning and was immediately hugged by an ecstatic Xander.
“Oh thank god, I was worried it was something serious when you didn’t wake up straight away and I didn’t know what to do, couldn’t take you to the hospital and I know you’re not supposed to move people with head injuries or is that neck injuries? I really couldn’t remember and Faith was no help. I…”
“XANDER!” Angel interrupted the babbling boy loudly and then wished he hadn’t as it resonated through his head making it hurt even more. Then Angel realised that all of his pain wasn’t coming from his head, in fact, it wasn’t from him at all.
“Xander, are you in pain?” He asked still not opening his eyes, trying to get a sense of who was in the crypt with them.
“Sort of, that’s why I came back. I started aching for no reason and then I did that thing Spike taught me when you were hurt last time and I…” Angel’s eyes sprang open at the mention of Spike and he searched the space with his eyes which only confirmed what his other senses were already telling him. Spike wasn’t there.
“Xan, where’s Spike?” Angel asked hoping the younger vampire had just popped out for a smoke but knowing deep down that it wasn’t true.
“He’s not here. I think he might be…” Worry shined in Xander’s eyes and Angel pulled him into a hug knowing what Xander wasn’t saying because he knew it too, they could feel it. Spike was off somewhere being tortured.
“We will get him back.” Angel vowed pulling slightly away from Xander “…but I need you to be strong, try not to focus on his pain instead concentrate on your love for him.”
“Will that help,” Xander asked, scared but knowing he would do everything he could to get the peroxide blonde back in one piece.
“It can. Look Xan, Spike’s strong and he spent his younger years with Angelus, he can take whatever she dishes out as long as he knows we are coming for him,” Angel reassured.
“She?” Xander questioned as Faith came back into the crypt having locked their unconscious prisoner in the boot of the car.
“It’s Glory.”
“Shit,” Faith swore, “it looks like you took down one of those scabby demons before they knocked us out, he’s secured in the car but we need to get going right now.”
“Thanks Faith,” Xander helped Angel to his feet and they hugged once more before letting go.
“We have ourselves a minion to scare into giving us Glory’s location, let’s go,” Angel led the way out into the dusk determined that Glory would pay for attacking his favoured childe.
*****
Spike ached. He was one big ache but was glad that the bitch had stopped torturing him to prattle on to herself, even though listening to her self-involved rambling was bad enough. Spike’s hands were tied together above his head attached to a chain dangling from the ceiling. He was in the middle of the room where he couldn’t stand up without needing to be on his tip toes. Spike paid no attention to the demons congregated round the corners of the room. He knew he looked a mess with his shirt torn and his face bloody not to mention all of his other injuries. Glory seemed able to push her fingers into his stomach without leaving a gaping hole behind. It still hurt like a bitch though. Spike could feel Angel and Xander’s support and worry for him through their bonding link and tried to be strong for them, tried to block the pain so that they wouldn’t feel how bad it was. Spike knew they were searching for him but didn’t know how they would ever be able to find him. He knew he had to try and escape himself.
“I have a riddle for you, precious. How is a vampire that won't talk ... like an apple?” Glory asked feeling self important with all her little minions watching. She strutted up to the bound vampire and used his hair to pull his head back so that she could look into his eyes. At the same time it also gave her minions a better view of the bloody and battered chest so that they knew what would happen to those who opposed her. With her free hand Glory used a dagger to cut deeply into Spike’s chest. Spike tried to stifle his yell at the pain but knew he didn’t do a good job at it.
“Think I can do you in one long strip?” Glory asked mockingly.
“Enough. No more. I'll tell you who the sodding key is,” Spike told her mortified at how weak his voice sounded but knowing that he needed a respite before the next torture session, time to come up with a plan. “but first I need a drink,” he stated playing up his injuries. Glory soon had a glass of water in her hands as the minions had jumped at the chance to serve their god like always. She held it to the battered vampire’s lips and admired her own handiwork as Spike drank the lot down. The blood dripping down his cheeks was a nice touch Glory thought, and she itched at the chance to do more damage to this vampire who would ultimately heal from all injuries. Maybe she could keep him as a punching bag for whenever someone had upset her. It was a thought that Glory would have to think about some more, but later. First she had a key to locate and retrieve. Maybe soon if the blonde bloodsucker gave up the goods.
“Is that better?” Glory asked as Spike coughed trying to alleviate the pain in his lungs which was one of the many aches and pains he felt. “Do you think you can try to talk again now?” Spike nodded playing the meek, cowed victim. “Good. Because I'm tired of these games!” Glory shrieked not known for her patience at all so she smashed the glass against Spike’s cheek breaking it into pieces and causing Spike’s skin to break open and bleed more profusely.
"I need time, I need a drink". You're a very needy little bloodsucker,” Glory complained sitting on her sofa, “and it's not very attractive.” Spike thought neediness could be very attractive especially the way Xander did it but he wasn’t going to say that out loud because the last thing he needed was this skank to go after his Xanpet. Instead Spike settled for just glaring at her.
“So start talkin'.” Glory demanded.
“Yeah. Okay. The key. Here's the thing...” Spike began twisting his hands around trying to loosen the chains as a plan formed in his head. It didn’t involve sex so it probably wasn’t going to work, because Spike knew the plans that worked all had sex in them but there was no way he was going to have sex with Glory so he just had to hope that this one did work.
“It's that guy... on TV ... what's his name?” Spike stalled for time.
“On the television?” Glory asked frowning not sure how anyone on the television could be the key.
“That show ... the prize show ... where they guess what stuff cost?” Spike told them knowing full well what the name of the show was but needing the time to try and loosen these chains around his wrists.
“The Price Is Right?” Murk asked.
“Oh, Bob Barker!” Jinx shouted showing his intimate knowledge of the show.
“We will bring you Bob Barker! We will bring you the limp and beaten body of Bob Bark…” Gerk began excited to do his god’s will, but Glory interrupted him while Spike smirked as much as he could with his sore face.
“It is not Bob Barker, scabby morons! The key is new to this world ...” Glory proclaimed standing up and turning to stand in front of the bound vampire. “…and Bob Barker is as old as grit. The vampire ... is lying to me.” She grinned evilly at Spike promising him a world of pain but it wasn’t enough for Spike he needed her completely riled up if his plan was to work.
“Yeah ... but it was fun. And guess what, bitch.” He giggled weakly as he tried to twist his hands free. “I'm not telling you jack. You're never gonna get your sodding key, 'cause you might be strong, but in our world, you're an idiot.” Spike told her sincerely happy at the affronted look on Glory’s face.
“I am a god.” She roared not cowing Spike in the least.
“The god of what, bad home perms?” Spike shot back at her.
“Shut up!” Glory demanded as she stalked towards him but she couldn’t help patting her hair to make sure it was fine. “I command you, shut up!”
“Yeah, okay, sorry, but I just had no idea that gods were such prancing lightweights.” Spike snarked as Glory scoffed in disbelief. “Mark my words, we are going to kick your skanky, lopsided ass,” Spike smiled to himself as Glory checked her ass in the mirror but kept going, knowing he was on the right path and almost there. “…back to whatever place would take a cheap, whorish, fashion victim ex-god like you.” Glory was utterly furious, without thinking she spun around and delivered a spinning kick to Spike’s chest. The movement caused Spike’s hands to break free of the chains and he went flying backwards crashing through the closed door and into the hallway outside. He finally landed after doing a backwards somersault against the wall severely battered.
“Good plan, Spike,” he muttered to himself as he tried to get his arms up underneath him to push himself up, knowing that he didn’t have much time but also not sure how he was going to be able to escape when he hurt so much.
“Bring him back.” Spike heard Glory demand and that got him moving up. Spike was terrified of how slow he was moving towards the elevator. He was bloodied and limping more half dragging himself down the hallway than anything else. All he wanted to do was fall down and let himself fall into unconsciousness but he knew that if he did that he would soon be back in Glory’s clutches and the longer he was tortured by her, the closer the time came to where he would inevitably break. As much as he strived to protect Dawn he knew he was ultimately weak and that, if given long enough, Glory would have the information she wanted. Spike couldn’t bear that to come to pass and that was the thought that kept him limping towards the elevator.
“Here!” A minion called out spying Spike who tried to catch the elevator doors before they fully closed but he was too late. Spike knew the minions were right behind him and falling on his knees he used all his strength to pry the doors open.
“Oh, god.” Spike could feel how much effort this was taking and knew that even as he opened the doors he was not going to have the energy to escape once on the ground floor. Minions came running around the corner and Spike just leant forward and let himself topple down into the elevator shaft. Spike smashed into the top of the lift creating more pain on top of what he had already sustained. He could not force himself to move for long minutes and knew that the minions would be tracking his progress. Spike finally gathered the strength to roll over and open the hatch in the lift’s ceiling before falling through it and landing on the floor. Spike knew that Glory’s scabby minions would be waiting on the ground floor and he had just wasted the little energy he had on this unsuccessful escape attempt. If Angel and Xander didn’t manage to rescue him he wouldn’t be able escape and he knew it.
*****
Angel dragged the slowly waking minion out of the boot of his car and up the stairs into the lobby filled with Scoobies and AI members.
“Tie him up,” Angel ordered throwing the demon in the direction of one of the circular couches. He could feel his childe’s pain and despair. He knew that Spike was keeping it muted as much as possible, but the fact that someone was touching his childe, was torturing his childe had Angel flashing in and out of game face as he tried to control his emotions. Anya had found a roll of duct tape and now proceeded to use the whole role on the incapacitated minion by running round and round the circular cushion so that Glory’s minion could not move away from the furniture and wherever the duct tape had stuck to his skin was going to hurt like a bitch when it would be ripped off because it would probably take hair and half-healing scabs with it.
Angel felt warm arms wrap around him as a mug of blood was gently placed in his hand. Xander didn’t say anything as he watched his lover drink the blood down, just lending his support by standing there. Letting Angel know that he had Xander and at the same time Xander took comfort in the strong unyielding arms of Angel. A polite cough brought them back to the present and they turned to face Wesley standing in the doorway looking decidedly wistful, while Gunn behind him waited for Wesley to move so that he could get through the doorway. Wesley shook his head and the next moment was all business again
“Right, let’s see what our prisoner has to say for himself.” Soon the un-named minion found him surrounded by fierce and angered members of the group they had been following and watching.
“Where’s Spike,” Angel asked completely no nonsense.
“The Key has been collected by the most wonderful Glorificus. You should all kneel on the ground and pray to her for forgiveness for attempting to thwart her will,” he spat.
“Spike isn’t the key, he’s a vampire,” Xander shrieked, glad that Cordelia had taken Dawn upstairs so that she didn’t see or hear any of this. The minion just laughed at him.
“Even if what you say is true she will soon have torn the identity of the key out of the wretched creature and will be on her way to collect it.” Angel had had enough, time was ticking, every second, one more second, Spike was still in the crazy god’s hands and that was unacceptable.
“Where is he?” Angel growled out letting his demon shine through. The minion jumped at the vampire in front of him but stayed resolute not to tell anyone the whereabouts of his god. What he hadn’t counted on was Angel. The vampire surged forward and bit deeply into the arteries in the demons neck spurting blood everywhere.
“No, no, no, no. Alright I’ll tell you!” He shrieked, caving completely and hoping that he would be killed quickly because his life would not be worth living when Glory found out what he had done.
