Disclaimer: I do not own the characters of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel the Series. They are the property of Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy et al. I do not make money from the writing of this, it is purely entertainment. I do not mean any disrespect to the actors who have portrayed these characters. This fic contains explicit Male/Male relationships if you are adverse to this or are under the age of eighteen then please do not read. Thankyou to all the online writers who help keep the Buffyverse alive.
Summary: What if Buffy couldn’t stop the snake demon before it got back to Glory. Starts in the Buffy Season 5 Episode Shadow but then goes AU. Angel is the same as cannon up to this point except that Darla is not visiting Angel in his dreams despite having been brought back by Wolfram and Hart you’ll find out why later. Furthermore, this follows Jenns fic Playing Games found at AdultFanFiction or the Slashaholics Island. You don’t need to have read that to follow this but I do recommend it as it’s a great fic. I moved the timeline back a bit so that by the Season 5 Ep Shadow the boys are a threesome and Spike and Xander are only in Sunnydale to pick up their stuff before moving in with Angel.

Chapter Thirty-Eight
Xander woke up slowly to find his head on Angel’s chest, who was stroking his hair while his legs tangled with Spike’s.
“Wow, I guessed I passed out, huh?” he asked lazily, feeling cum idly drip out between his thighs.
“Mm. That was different.” Spike commented, stroking his lovers wherever he could reach their skin, just needing the connection.
“Yeah. It was more ... intense.” Xander agreed and Angel gave a lazy chuckle.
“That’s because you had two cocks up your ass,” Angel put the Irish accent on, feeling good but not perfectly happy.
“No. It's because of Joyce,” Xander argued.
“How’s that pet?” Spike asked staring intently at Xander, trying to understand where he was coming from.
“Well, she got me thinking ... about ... how people die all the time, and ... how they get born too, and how you kind of need one so you can have the other. When I think about it that way, it ... makes death a little less sad, and ... sex a little more exciting. I never thought of it like that before,” Xander explained though he only really explained it to himself, as the vampires had no idea what he was talking about.
“What?” Angel asked feeling as though he was missing something fundamental.
“Well, I just think I understand sex more now. It's not just about two bodies smooshing together. It's about life. It's about making life.” Xander laughed as he saw the stunned faces on the undead.
“Ah pet, you know we can’t make life. One, Angel and I are both dead and two, we’re all male,” Spike explained patiently as if to the very slow.
“Relax, I know that we couldn’t but out of love like ours birth happens, yanno? Life comes out of people’s love and sex and that’s beautiful. It all makes me feel like I'm part of something bigger. Like I'm more awake somehow. Do you understand?” Xander asked really wanting to share this feeling with his lovers but not knowing how to make them understand if they didn’t already.
“Yeah, I do.” Angel reassured, meaning it and kissing Xander’s forehead. Xander smiled and turned to face Spike.
“Spike?” He asked, Spike stared at him sadly remembering Cordelia’s comment about Spike being a good father. Spike suddenly regretted not having the chance to have children but then he took in his lovers and decided that he didn’t want anything apart from what he had right in front of him and he was sure he was the luckiest vampire ever.
“Yeah Xan, I understand.”

“He's getting stronger. I'm losing him, I'm losing control of him.” Glory lamented angrily from where she lay on her sofa, waited on by five minions including Jinx and Murk.
“You're speaking of Ben, most glamorous yet tasteful one?” Jinx inquired grovelling, remembering her warning about the state of his platitudes.
“He stabbed you in your body.” Glory reminded them though Jinx definitely didn’t need reminding about that.
“Jinx is all right, your highness. And we do have the new knowledge that the key is a human being.” Murk replied pointing out the positives before Glory became melodramatic and threw things at them again.
“If time runs out on us and all we're left with is info? Then we're screwed.” Glory reminded them sitting up in what she thought was a dramatic way but what actually made her look as if she was in pain.
“Oh, surely not!” Jinx interjected, not ready to admit defeat.
“No, we're screwed!” Glory assured him leaning back into the couch again.
“But you are a god. The sacred Glorificus!” Murk tried to suck up and remind Glorificus of what she truly was.
“I'm a god in exile. Far from the hellfires of home and ... sharing my body with an enemy that stabs my boys in their,” Glory poked Jinx right in his still healing wound, “fleshy little stomachs.” Always completely self-absorbed she sat back into the couch in frustration oblivious to the pain she had just inflicted upon Jinx.
“Uhh! I'm in pain.” She laid her hand across her forehead wondering if her performance in front of the minions was worthy of an Oscar-when in reality Queen C was a better actor than this home-permed hell-God.
“How can we help? We'll lay down our lives.” Jinx offered straight away, wanting nothing more than to serve his God. Glory spent a moment pretending to ponder, but she was just making herself look constipated as she paced up and down before turning to her enraptured audience.
“The Slayer’s friends and the key are connected. They are going to have contact with it. Find out who's new in their life, who's ... special, who's different. Watch them.”
“But we don’t know where they are hiding O glorious shining one,” Murk grovelled bowing low. Luckily for them she was distracted, as a lesser minion stumbled through the door with the morning newspaper.
“My Splendid Shining Beautiful One, I think I’ve found them.” The new arrival told them bowing low, awed to be in the sight of his God.
“Where?” Glory asked sharply needing news of the potential whereabouts of the key.
“You told us to search for the name Summers, My Lady, I found this note in the birth and deaths section, your worshipfulness.” Glory rudely snatched the paper from his hands and after skimming the passage brought her attention back to the minion shivering in her presence.
“At last, one of you numbskulls has actually been able to come through with the goods. Not to mention knowing the proper way to behave in my presence. What’s your name minion?” She demanded feeling better.
“Gerk, my most breathtaking highness.” He replied bowing low again.
“Great Gerk, this is what I want to do. As these idiots have basically told the world where they will be tomorrow, I want you to go to this funeral with the others but you’re in charge of bringing me back one alive, the one that is most likely the key.” Glory leant back into the sofa and glared when the minions didn’t show any sign of leaving. “GO,” she commanded annoyed, maybe Gerk wasn’t better than the rest after all. Oh well, only time would tell.

It was the middle of the day and the graveyard looked quite a different place than it did in the middle of the night. The coffin was lying in the hole in the ground and everyone was gathered around it for the funeral. Joyce had had specific instructions written out as to what she wanted in the event of her death, which was why this was taking place during the middle of the day. Quite a few people were attending; the Scoobies had placed an add in the paper as they hadn’t been sure how else to contact everyone. Hank Summers had not appeared, something that most were happy about, they didn’t need more complications. Dawn stood on one side of the coffin with Xander, Willow and Tara flanking her. Ready to give comfort if needed. Due to it being daylight, Spike and Angel couldn’t be beside the grave but were instead lurking just inside a nearby mausoleum where they could see and hear everything going on. Faith was with them, as she couldn’t show her face publicly yet. They could not risk someone recognising her.
“We commend to almighty God...” the minister began as Dawn began sobbing and buried her face into Xander’s chest, who held onto her tightly, trying to fight the tears in his own eyes.
“...our sister, Joyce Summers...” Willow and Tara stood together holding hands, giving and receiving comfort to each other. Wesley, Gunn and Cordelia were nearby watching the scene with what looked like passiveness, but on the inside they were all in turmoil. Wesley was sick of people, decent people dying for no good reason. By rights, Buffy and Giles should have been here to help comfort Dawn and mourn the loss of such an incredible woman, Joyce Summers.
“...and we commit her body to the ground.” Xander gave up the struggle of not crying and started to sob, gripping the body within his arms tighter. This just wasn’t fair but then again, when was life ever fair?
“Earth to earth...ashes to ashes... and dust to dust.” Spike and Angel held onto each other remembering other funerals as Faith just stood and stared, mourning the loss of the only decent mother figure she had ever had, and had never spent the time to get to know better. They watched as the minister shovelled the first dirt onto the coffin in the hole not knowing that unseen observers were watching them intently.
“The Lord bless her and keep her.” The minister prayed. “The Lord makes his face to shine upon her and be gracious to her. The Lord lift up his countenance upon her ...and give her peace.” It was a prayer that they all hoped was true, and that Joyce would finally have the peace she deserved.

Spike and Angel watched, hugging each other as the humans slowly began moving away from the grave. The service was over but they were standing there making sure that everyone had got into cars before they left themselves. Faith was waiting impatiently at the sewer entrance while the two vampires kissed chastely. She smiled at how evident their love for each other was as she wondered if she would ever have something like that. All three whirled around as the door opened and Jinx came through at the same time as Gerk, and more minions appeared from the sewers.
“Gentlemen! And Lady. I'm so sorry to intrude, but I wondered if I might beg a moment of your time.”
“Friends of yours?” Faith asked the vampires knowing that there were many demons out there that weren’t a threat and that Angel knew many of those living in LA. However Jinx punched Angel in the stomach as he pushed Spike behind him as remnant of an old reflex.
“Guess not.” The three supernatural beings started to kick and fight off the minions, wondering why they had attacked, as none of them had seen Jinx and friends before and subsequently didn’t know there connection to Glory. However Spike finally realised where he had seen them before, when they had been fleeing Sunnydale.
“These Dickheads are Glory’s,” Spike yelled out and suddenly found himself on the receiving end of most of the minions as they decided that he would best serve their God’s needs. Angel had knocked one minion out but Faith was also down and Spike couldn’t fight off the half a dozen who kept grabbing him all by himself. Angel dived into the fray and was hit over the head with a shovel that someone had left lying about for his troubles.
“Tie his hands! Glory will want him restrained.” Gerk commanded and it was instantly done.
“Let me go!” Spike yelled not able to get an arm or leg free enough to kick these bastards.
“Careful with him. She will want the key intact.”
“Key? Who's a key? I'm not the...” Spike began speaking furiously, not liking where this was heading but before he could get more out, Gerk stuffed an old rag into his mouth. Continuing to struggle didn’t do much good as the demons dragged him down into the sewers and Spike could only stare back at his unconscious lover hoping that Angel would get up. Unfortunately Angel didn’t stir and Spike had been dragged out of sight not knowing how injured Angel really was.

Glory was in her apartment on the sofa reading a magazine and wondering why it was taking her minions so long to get back with her prize. Maybe she had been too lenient on them and they really needed her to punish them more fiercely for their indiscretions. The door burst open and Gerk and Jinx enter with Spike between them, his hands tied behind his back but still struggling to get away.
“What the hell is that, and why is his hair that colour?” Glory demanded answers looking Spike over and not being very impressed with what she could see.
“Stunning one, we believe he is...” Gerk began before Murk and Jinx interrupted him.
“The key!” Spike took in the details of the room trying to work out a way to escape. It was still light outside so he couldn’t jump out a window, the only safe way out was through the sewers but he knew that that way was too heavily guarded for him to escape down before the hellgod would be on top of him. Glory smiled at the news and moved forward shoving a minion out of the way.
“Really? That's fantabulous! And impossible.” Glory suddenly realised what he was as she walked around Spike, examining him from all angles. “He can't be the key, because, see, the key ... has to be pure.” Returning to where she started, in front of Spike, she leaned in to sniff him.
“This is a vampire,” Glory declared and Spike tried to school his features to indifferent though inside alarm bells were going off. Keeping his vampire status hidden had been his only advantage in this situation but now this chick knew how to kill him and how to most effectively torture him. Things were not looking good for Spike and he knew it. “Lesson number one, vampires equal impure.”
“Yeah, damn right I'm impure. I'm as impure as the driven yellow snow. Let me go.” Spike used all his false bravo he could muster but he didn’t think they bought it.
“You can't even brain-suck a vampire,” Glory told her minions, disappointed patting Spike’s chest. “He's completely useless.”
“So, I'm just gonna let myself out.” Spike tried to make a break for it but with his hands tied it was useless and Murk stopped him easily.
“But, your holiness, we observed the Dark Haired Vampire. He treated this one as precious,” Jinx explained. Spike was never more thankful than now that they had taken him, that they had seen him with Angel and not Xander, nor had they seen how they all looked after Dawn. Spike knew he would endure anything if it would keep Dawn and Xander safe and out of harms way.
“Really? Precious?” Glory studied Spike again pushing Jinx out of the way in the process.
“Let's take a peek at you, precious.” She studied the peroxide-blonde vampire taking in his form and dress recognising that he might be some person ideal if they had no care for class.
“Sod off.” Spike told her resolute that he would take whatever was dished out to him but he wouldn’t make it easy for her either.
“Oh...” Glory laughed as she punched Spike and he flew backwards before he crashed into the wall and slid down it. Spike spat the blood out of his mouth while trying to right himself, but it was too late and Glory was in front of him, tilting his head up so that she could get a good look at him.
“He doesn't look very fancy to me.” Glory remarked before grabbing Spike by his lower lip and pulling him upright.
“Hey, watch the lip!” Spike griped feeling tearing inside his mouth.
“But if the other vampire cares for him maybe appearances are deceptive.” Spike was thrown back onto her round bed. With his arms pinned underneath him he couldn’t move before Glory was climbing on top of him, settling on his bruises, causing more pain.
“Maybe there's something on the inside.” For one terrible second Spike feared that she was going to rape him but then he couldn’t think through the pain as she thrust one finger into his stomach.
“Shhh. What do you know, precious? What can I dig out of you?” Glory asked herself as she pushed the finger in further. Spike screamed in pain writhing on the bed hoping against hope that his lovers would be able to get him out of this mess.
