Disclaimer: I do not own the characters of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel the Series. They are the property of Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy et al. I do not make money from the writing of this, it is purely entertainment. I do not mean any disrespect to the actors who have portrayed these characters. This fic contains explicit Male/Male relationships if you are adverse to this or are under the age of eighteen then please do not read. Thankyou to all the online writers who help keep the Buffyverse alive.
Summary: What if Buffy couldn’t stop the snake demon before it got back to Glory. Starts in the Buffy Season 5 Episode Shadow but then goes AU. Angel is the same as cannon up to this point except that Darla is not visiting Angel in his dreams despite having been brought back by Wolfram and Hart you’ll find out why later. Furthermore, this follows Jenns fic Playing Games found at AdultFanFiction or the Slashaholics Island. You don’t need to have read that to follow this but I do recommend it as it’s a great fic. I moved the timeline back a bit so that by the Season 5 Ep Shadow the boys are a threesome and Spike and Xander are only in Sunnydale to pick up their stuff before moving in with Angel.

Chapter Thirty-Five
Glory was standing in front of a vanity mirror wearing only a lush red towel attempting to do her hair, but only able to think of her missing minion, which was completely stupid; she was a god, why should she care so much about one lousy minion?
“Where is he? He should have been back hours ago.” She complained to the minion waiting on her, his name was Durk or Lurk or Murk or something, it didn’t really matter, they all looked the same to her, all scaly.
“I'm sure Jinx is on his way, your ... new and improved-ness. He's most loyal to…”
“Hey! He better be loyal.” Glory interrupted the minions dribble, slamming her silver brush onto the bench. She whirled around as the door opened and two more demons entered, half carrying Jinx between them. Jinx’s arms were looped around the supporting demons shoulders but he was conscious.
“Jinxie?” Glory asked sickly-sweet, she rushed forward and took one of the incapacitated minions arms around her own shoulders. The displaced demon left to shut the door.
“Oh, no, no! Oh, mind the rug, honeys, blood's a bitch. Who did this? I’ll pull their wings off.” Glory was quite flustered by this development and needed desperately to vent.
“No.” Jinx told his mistress softly as he was placed on a sofa. “It was Ben.” He finally managed to tell those around him.
“Ben?” Glory queried, turning away from her minions. It rankled that she could not control one measly little human. “Ben? Oh god, you pointless, stupid lout! Oh, I hate you, I hate you,” In her distress the unstable god pulled strands of her out of her own head. “I hate youuuuu!”
“The key! He told me.” Jinx tried to distract her before she pulled all her hair out.
“The key?” Glory immediately turned back to them, looking like a little girl who had been promised a treat, except for the clumps of hair still in her hands. “What about the key?”
“He indicated that it was a person, most... highest ... you.” Jinx winced at the lame endearment hoping that he wouldn’t be punished too severely for that transgression.
“The key's in human form?” Glory asked in wonder, at last a lead!
“I believe so ... good one.”
“Ahh!” Glory twirled in the middle of the floor before sitting on the sofa and pulled Jinx into a hug.
“Jinx, you robed stud, you're my man! I'm even gonna let you slide on the lame toadying on account of your dying and stuff.” Jinx was very surprised to hear that he wasn’t to be punished at all as Glory wasn’t known for her mercy. He had noticed lately that Glory was becoming soft but there was no way he was going to voice that thought out-loud, he would just have to watch her closely.
“So, the key's all secreted away in a flesh wrapper!” Glory was up and pacing as she nutted out what the best course of action would be. “This narrows the search from now on in a serious way, I mean we didn't have a clue. It could have been a log, or, or a bicycle pump, or whatever, am I right?” She turned to Jinx on the sofa only to find him out cold from his wound. “Uch, get him fixed, would ya?” She plopped down onto the sofa smiling. “I wanna hear the whole story again, without all that annoying moaning.”

Xander slowly woke up to the low murmur of voices from the other two occupants of the bed he was comfortably residing in. He snuggled into the closest hard body and heard Spike laugh lazily at him.
“You awake then Xan?” Spike absentmindedly patted Xander’s hair, addicted to the feel of the silky strands threading through his fingers.
“No, I’m not,” Xander mumbled, wanting to just lay between his lovers for a while longer before the world crashed in around them again. He loved the feeling of just waking up, but not being completely awake, where he could lounge in bed with these two magnificent creatures.
“That’s alright baby-boy, you can just listen while we discuss what to do now,” Angel obviously didn’t know, or understand, the pleasure of laying in bed and just relaxing first thing in the morning.
“I think we should let the humans come with us this time,” surprisingly it was Spike who suggested this. “They don’t like being left behind, just as much as Xander and I don’t. Besides, we could always use some back up, specially if the girls get some muscle or turned the lawyers or something.” Angel tensed at that suggestion, his soul was attempting to make him feel guilty but he argued that the lawyers brought their fate on themselves and it was the best of all the available options. Angel turned to watch Spike and Xander kiss. He was about to join in when he heard shouting from the foyer.
“ANGEL!” they heard Faith yell, and it got them all moving. In record speed they were up and dressed and flying through the corridors til they got to the stairs on the second floor where they could look down into the foyer. Instead of the hoards of demons they were expecting, they were greeted by the sight of Detective Kate Lockley with her gun out, pointed unerringly at Faith.
“Kate! Stop!” Angel yelled, vaulting over the rail to land in between Kate and Faith, who was standing there passively. Spike and Xander opted to take the long but safer way down via the stairs.
“Angel, she was in jail. I put her there myself. What the hell is she doing here and how come I haven’t heard of an escaped convict?” Kate was not happy with this little development. She had come to the hotel to confront Angel about a crime scene she had visited early this morning and when she walked through the hotel doors the first person she had met was a woman she had put in jail a year ago.
“Kate, just put the gun down and we can discuss this, I’ll explain everything.”
“How do I know that she won’t attack as soon as I’ve lowered my weapon?” Kate asked.
“Kate, Faith has been here for a week if she wanted to hurt you, if she wanted to hurt anyone she would have done so by now. Can you please lower the weapon? I don’t want another accident like the last time you raised your gun near me.” That jab of how she had shot Gunn was enough to get Kate to lower her gun especially when she noticed a teenage girl walk towards them talking animatedly to a blonde woman beside her.
“Fine, talk and talk fast buster, I’m not very impressed by you at the moment.”
“Faith is a Slayer,” at Kate’s blank look Wesley cut Angel off to explain.
“A Vampire Slayer. In every generation one girl in all the world is chosen to battle the forces of evil.” Angel glared at Wesley and he stopped talking letting Angel take over the explanations again.
“Anyway a while back a Slayer died but only for a moment but it was enough for the next one to be activated. This meant that there were two Slayers and because of this Faith could go to jail for her crimes and the world would still have a warrior, a Slayer.” Angel couldn’t continue at this point, still not able to talk about Buffy in a clinical matter so Faith took over.
“A little over a week ago the older Slayer was killed and because the line had already passed on, another Slayer wasn’t activated, meaning that I’m the only Slayer and I couldn’t twiddle my thumbs in jail while the world went to hell in a hand basket, not to mention that in jail I was a sitting duck for those who wanted to kill me so that the next Slayer would be activated.” Faith tried to justify her recent actions to the cop, attempting to see her as a person Angel accepted, instead of how she had always viewed the cops in Boston growing up: the enemy.
Kate for her part stared hard at the apparently repentant Slayer before finally nodding her head. She had begun to understand that always applying her own rules and laws to the supernatural, and those who fought the supernatural, just didn’t work. This Slayer had at some point admitted she had done the wrong thing and had gone to jail to atone for those crimes. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as simple as that and it was clear to Kate that this young woman was being incredibly unselfish by coming back into the world. Kate lowered her gun and placed it back in its holster while nodding to Faith. She turned back to Angel and the reason she had come to the hotel.
“I have a major bone to pick with you. You see, three men were taken into custody for trespassing and destruction of property at Wolfram and Hart last night, and not two hours after I let these men free, those same lawyers they had been abusing and threatening earlier were found dead in a wine cellar.”
“All of them?” Spike butted in just to make sure that the threat from Wolfram and Hart had been severely lessened for the time being.
“No survivors, all victims had two puncture wounds and were depleted of blood but you see the interesting thing is that it seems that the murderers were locked in with the victims. It looks like that they had to almost tear down the door in order to make their escape.”
“So?” Angel was all defensive, crossing his arms but not giving anything away.
“I know you went looking for them, I know you were there in that cellar Angel, unfortunately I don’t have hard evidence. What I do have is internal affairs sniffing around because I let three prime suspects go for no good reason and I can’t even give them last names.” Kate was aware of the silently watching crowd, this group of people didn’t seemed shocked at her words which meant they already knew what part Angel had played in this debacle. They knew, and for whatever reason, they didn’t disagree. “This is your warning Angel, don’t expect any more favours from me, not for a long while.” The whirlwind that was Detective Kate Lockley left. As the door closed behind her Dawn moved forward wanting a favour from the vampires.
“Angel, Spike I need to ask you something,” Dawn interrupted before the vampires had left for parts unknown again.
“What is it Niblet?” Spike asked feeling guilty for not spending much time with her lately; things had just been too hectic, but with Lindsey, Lilah and pals out of the picture, hopefully they would be able to defeat Darla and Drusilla quickly. Then, hopefully, he would have time with Dawn before the threat of Glory reared its ugly head again.
“Mum said if it was okay with you I’d be able to go with Anne to the East Hills Teen Centre and help out for a while.”
“I don’t know Dawn…” Angel began before Anne interrupted him.
“Its perfectly safe and no one will expect her to be there. Besides, Gunn’s old gang is there helping to paint a couple of rooms.” Angel looked at both his lovers for a moment, thinking that this was probably a monumentally stupid idea but understanding that Dawn probably needed to get out of the hotel, and at least they would know where she was.
“Okay but make sure you take the phone Spike gave you and that all our numbers are in speed dial so that if something goes down, you ring us.”
“Just don’t ring the poof first as he sucks at technology.” Spike added smiling at the huge grin that graced Dawn’s face.
“Thanks guys! Anne just let me get my bag and say goodbye to mum and we can go.” As Dawn sped up the stairs to her room, Angel turned to Anne.
“Don’t let her out of your sight and don’t dawdle outside.”
“I know what I’m doing and like I’d hang around outside after dark, even if their weren’t vampires and other monsters hanging around.” Anne didn’t particularly like Angel or feel comfortable around him but Gunn vouched for him and that was good enough for her. Dawn quickly returned and the two woman left.
Grabbing food, everyone else sat down on the couches around the lobby, somehow knowing that the lovers needed to talk to them all.
“Its been pointed out to me that I’ve been excluding everyone lately and it hasn’t really got me anywhere except strained friendships.” Angel began taking comfort in his lovers close proximity as this was hard for him to say.
“What are you trying to say, Angel?” Cordelia asked, knowing that this was hard for him and determined to not make it any easier.
“I’m trying to apologise and ask if I can have you all on board now, cos we’re going to need your help.”
“Oh, now you apologise. When you have another motive,” Anya piped up.
“No pet,” Spike began, “we could go by ourselves but its worked so well up to now that going in with a different plan might be an idea.” Anya closed her mouth while the others looked at each other.
“Apology accepted, now what’s the plan?” Wesley was the one to take the offering.

The entire gang strolled into Caritas. Angel, Spike and Xander were in the lead, followed by Wesley, Gunn, Faith and Cordelia then Willow, Tara and Anya. The only person left at the Hyperion was Joyce, who told them she was perfectly safe with all the wards around the building. Lorne spotted the group, who were very conspicuous against the background of his usual clientele, but did not approach them as he saw the group circle a table containing Merle. Lorne smiled to see that Angel had gotten his broody head in gear and was working with his whole group.
Merle glanced up to find himself surrounded as Angel slid into the seat opposite him.
“What do you want?” He demanded knowing that he wouldn’t be able to get away without giving up some information.
“Information,” was all Angel said as he handed over an envelope containing cash. Merle quickly pocketed it not wanting a repeat of last time when the British guy had taken some of the money back after he’d protested.
“Information on what?” Merle asked.
“Two vampires, female, go by the name of Darla and Drusilla, what do you know?” Gunn answered knowing that this was paining his boss.
“Alright. I heard about your girls, Godzilla, Darcilla, whatever. Uh... they've been hitting all the underground hot spots. Looking for demons to join some, ah, crew they're running. That's all I know, man, I swear."
“What else?” Spike demanded in game face painfully aware of the wards that kept him from acting violently against this toad.
"Okay! Okay. Okay. You didn't hear this from me. But you know that little Bar-and-bite club on La Cienega and Washington? - Ah, that's the only demon haunt they ain't been to. Okay? Okay?" Merle knew that if he didn’t give them everything he knew they could track him down outside Caritas where they could be as violent as they want.
“Thanks,” Angel mumbled as the group left, and Merle breathed a sigh of relief.
