Disclaimer: I do not own the characters of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel the Series. They are the property of Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy et al. I do not make money from the writing of this, it is purely entertainment. I do not mean any disrespect to the actors who have portrayed these characters. This fic contains explicit Male/Male relationships if you are adverse to this or are under the age of eighteen then please do not read. Thankyou to all the online writers who help keep the Buffyverse alive.
Summary: What if Buffy couldn’t stop the snake demon before it got back to Glory. Starts in the Buffy Season 5 Episode Shadow but then goes AU. Angel is the same as cannon up to this point except that Darla is not visiting Angel in his dreams despite having been brought back by Wolfram and Hart you’ll find out why later. Furthermore, this follows Jenns fic Playing Games found at AdultFanFiction or the Slashaholics Island. You don’t need to have read that to follow this but I do recommend it as it’s a great fic. I moved the timeline back a bit so that by the Season 5 Ep Shadow the boys are a threesome and Spike and Xander are only in Sunnydale to pick up their stuff before moving in with Angel.

Reviews: Daeomae - Thanks, it can be hard adding an extra person into a fight and still having the same result and if you thought adding Spike and Xander into that part of the Angel story was interesting wait until you've read this.
Renee - Glad you could catch up and yes I'm still updating regularly despite how many months I've been working on this. Thankyou for telling me that, it was what I was aiming for, hope you continue to enjoy.
A/N: A big thanks to Jenn for allowing me to use some of her ideas evident in Playing Games. Buffyworld is back! A big thanks to Howard Russell for bringing such a wonderful resource back online.
Chapter Thirty-Three
Spike and Xander melted back into the darkness to watch as Angel stepped under the yellow tape roping off Darla and Drusilla’s shopping spree. They had already decided that only Angel should investigate the crime scene as the three of them walking through would attract too much attention and Angel dressed as he was, was more likely to be taken for a detective. He moved through the police cars parked at the front of the store and ignored the plainclothes detective who stared after him. That was the key, look like you belonged there, that you were just doing you’re job and they would most likely leave you alone. In the store Angel was overwhelmed by the smell of human blood and fear. He deftly avoided being seen by the person taking crime scene photo and the police officer gathering up a broken necklace from the floor into an evidence bag. There was nothing of interest out on the floor so Angel moved further into the store.
Angel walked through a curtain into the store’s fitting rooms hoping that back here he might find some clue as to where they would go next. He heard a speeding heartbeat and the choked off sobs of someone trying not to be heard. Turning to the right door he carefully opened it to reveal a woman crouching in one corner with her hands pressed over her ears as she rocked back and forth. She started and gasped at the sight of Angel in the doorway, scared that the two deranged women were coming back to finish her off.
"It's okay. It's okay. It's all over. They're gone now." Angel attempted to reassure her, he knew he wasn’t as good at this as Xander or Spike for that matter, but he did what he could to calm the obviously traumatised woman.
"They killed those people." The woman finally got out not able to look at Angel.
"I know. The police are here now. They're gonna take care of you. You were in here the entire time?" He asked, wanting to draw her into conversation, find out all she had heard but knowing that he had to guide her gently as she was one of the innocent he swore to protect and he didn’t want her more traumatised by her memories of the last few hours.
"I needed a new dress for the office party. This one was too expensive, but… I couldn't make up my mind and then... I kept thinking they were gonna come in here to kill me, too." Once she started talking she found it relatively easy to continue.
"I know. Did you see or hear any of it?" Angel asked trying to play it cool, as if the question wasn’t all that important.
"I mostly heard. I guess I was lucky 'cause of the party."
"You'll be okay. You'll make your party." Angel couldn’t believe how fixated this woman seemed to be about a party, she had just been through hell and that was all she could concentrate on.
"No. Their party. They were in a hurry to get to it." Angel perked up at that.
"They said something about a party?"
"A tasting." Bells went off in Angel’s head and he remembered Holland Manners telling him about a wine tasting he would be holding tonight. Angel bet that the two vampiress’ knew about it too, and knowing Darla she would want retribution for being brought back as a weak dying human with a soul.
"Why don't you just, uhm, go on outside and find an officer. You'll be okay," he reassured holding out his hand to her as she slowly gets up and lets him help her past him.
"Thank you." She tells him sincerely before looking down at the store’s dress she is still wearing. "It was just too much." And then she is gone and Angel snuck out the back way to rendezvous with his lovers before they gate crashed Holland Manner’s little party.

Angel, Spike and Xander had raided the weapons in the boot of Angel’s car and were now bristling with them as they silently make their way up to Holland Manners mansion. Angel and Spike had both given Xander strict instructions that he had to stay behind them, out of the way and if he could, find a corner and shoot bolts from his crossbow from there. They walked to the open front door of the Manners mansion knowing that the two female vampires were somewhere inside and that they would be able to sense them as well as the boys could. Xander turned his head away at the blood trail on the beige carpet leading from the front door. Knowing that there were lawyers below about to be or being eaten didn’t really affect him as much as he thought it would. They were corrupt and they had something like this coming. However watching a woman, apparently Holland’s wife, curled up on the floor bleeding to death. A woman whose only fault in life was falling in love with a man who worked for the devil, and didn’t deserve this, made him hold his crossbow tighter and feel determined to rid the world of the two vampiress’.
"Help us." The woman pleaded and it was Spike who answered, Spike who was least affected by the chaos and death that Darla and Drusilla were leaving in there wake.
“You need to invite us in, luv. I know it sounds stupid but you need to tell us to come in.” He cajoled the dying woman. They all knew it was too late for her, her breathe was becoming laboured and she was as pale as anything.
“Co… Come in,” she rasped and they heard her last rattling breaths before she fell silent, dead. Xander carefully moved over to her and closed her eyes. Angel squeezed his shoulder before they silently moved toward the basement where everyone, human and vampire waited. They walked down the steps to the cellar, stopping just inside the open door to the former bomb shelter.
"Angelus. Here for the tasting?" Darla taunted standing in the middle of the cellar beside Drusilla surrounded by cowering lawyers.
"Look what we have for you.” Dru offered and then turned sad. “It's not Daddy. It's never Daddy.” She hissed at him while he stood there impassively next to his lovers. “It's the Angel-beast."
"Come to punish us?" Darla asked teasingly taking in the solid shape of Angel, the fluid energy of Spike and the fiddling nervousness of the human behind them. There was something about him but she couldn’t put her finger on it without a better look.
"Yeah, yeah.” Drusilla lifted her hands above her head crossing them while she swayed to a beat only she could hear. “Spank us till Tuesday,” she growled remembering all the fun the four of them used to have. “We promise to be bad if you do." Spike watched her performance and was amazed to feel no stirring below his belt at his dark princesses words. Spike had truly moved on from her.
“Are we going to stand around and yap all day or are we going to settle this thing,” Spike asked into the silence created from Drusilla’s words. Darla sauntered right over til she was in front of Spike.
“Always impatient, weren’t you William.” Without warning she punched him squarely in the nose. Spike hands instinctively went to his face to check the damage. Darla mocked him. “Was that more to your style, the itch that Angel and the boy-toy just aren’t scratching?” Suddenly the vampires erupted into a flurry of movement. Drusilla launched herself at Angel intent on bringing him down but Angel dodged her advance and sent a flurry of punches into her abdomen. Meanwhile, Spike and Darla were grappling over the furniture, the lawyers cowering back into the corners trying to keep out of the way of the vicious fight.
Xander concentrated solely on the four vampires fighting at the entrance as he slowly made his way round the room keeping out of the way but aiming his crossbow, looking for an opportunity to shoot one of the female vampires without hurting either of his lovers. His concentration was so focused on the fight that he didn’t notice the man move up behind him until it was too late, until he found himself in the arms of Holland Manners with a knife to his throat. Xander panicked but as soon as he moved, even the tiniest bit that knife was digging into his throat so close to cutting it, spilling his life blood onto the carpet. Xander whimpered and suddenly the fight stopped. It wasn’t just Angel and Spike who stopped but all four vampires who were now staring at Holland and Xander.
“Holland, let him go,” Angel ordered promising a world of pain if he was ignored.
“No, if you want this fragile boy to be unharmed I suggest that you and your childe restrain those lovely women of yours and let my people escape up the stairs.” Darla stared at the boy-man standing rigidly in the lawyers arms, there was something about him. She studied him trying to work out what it was. His neck was bared with the knife tight against it but he was tilted to one side so that she could see a mark, a bite mark, a claiming bite mark. Now she knew what she had sensed. She whirled on Angel.
“You claimed him Angelus?” she needed confirmation, this changed everything.
“We both did, he is fully ours.” Spike answered for Angel.
“A consort in the line of Aurielius,” she breathed ignoring the gasps of Lilah and Lindsey who knew what the repercussions of this were, unlike their oblivious boss. Drusilla clapped her hands and twirled about like a two year old.
“The kitten has finally joined the family.” Holland watched these going ons, a bit mystified but he figured he could work out what they were going on about after he had gotten out of the wine cellar.
“Angel restrain those women or your toy-boy here is dead,” he threatened. He gripped Xander a little harder when Spike laughed at him outright.
“You’re not going to hurt him.”
“And why the hell not Spike, I have the knife at his throat.”
“Yes and thankyou for signing all our death sentences with that, it’s much appreciated.” Lindsey let his full contempt colour his words as Holland stared at him. The old fool had no idea what he had done.
“What are you talking about Lindsey?” Fear was starting to creep into Holland Manner’s mind. This was not going the way he had imagined.
“Remember the Frian case a couple of years back? It came about because a vampire consort had been killed. You are holding a knife to the throat of a vampire’s consort. If we are lucky they will kill everyone in this room as retribution as long as you don’t kill him.” They watched as this information slowly sunk into Holland’s brain.
“What do you mean if we’re lucky?”
“They could decide that as head of special projects for Wolfram and Hart that they need to wreak vengeance on Wolfram and Hart and it won’t just be these four it would be every vampire that exists. To threaten or hurt a consort that has not actively tried to hurt or kill you is the biggest offence committed in the eyes of the vampires. What do you think the Senior Partners will do with your soul then?” Lindsey stared at his employer, glad to see the knife arm slowly relax before Xander was pushed towards the vampires at the other end of the cellar. Xander stumbled as he was released, his mind frozen, unable to fully comprehend what had happened. His body started to shake of its own violation and he felt like he was going to be sick. Cool arms wrapped around him and held him close a soothing voice in his ear.
“Is he unharmed?” Angel asked Spike, who had a shivering Xander in his arms while Angel stared passively at the lawyers.
“He’s fine, physically,” Spike replied after he had checked Xander over.
“Take him to the car, I’ll be there in a moment,” Spike obeyed Angel’s Sire voice knowing that the dark haired vampire was not going to save these people, something that he had no problems with. The lawyers had it coming. Angel stepped back until he was on the other side of the oak doors after his childe’s footsteps had faded from hearing.
"Angel...." Holland pleaded knowing that their fate was being decided in that instant.
“This isn’t over,” Angel glared at Darla ignoring the lawyers in his intensity.
“I know. I never did get that good-bye kiss."
"You will. But not tonight," Angel promised giving them silent permission for tonight’s activities.
"For god's sake, help us." Lilah pleaded, becoming desperate even though she knew it was hopeless.
"Angel please. People are going to die." Holland begged not able to believe that Angel would leave humans with the two murdering fiends.
"And yet, somehow, I just can't seem to care." He unhurriedly closed the double doors on them making sure to lock them before turning and steadily moving out of the mansion ignoring the screams behind him.

Ben had finished for the night and he was putting on his jacket as he walked around the corner heading for the nearest exit. It had been a hard night especially when he had been assigned to a woman who had hid in a change room while everyone else in the store had been killed by vampires. Of course, his superiors didn’t know it was vampires and Ben wasn’t going to tell them as he didn’t want to be placed in an insane asylum, though it would be interesting to see what their reaction to Glory showing up would be. Multiple Personalities Disorder taken to a whole new level. Ben was so involved with his own thoughts that he did not see Jinx move out of a doorway and grab him pulling him into an empty room.
“Begging permission to speak with you, sir.”
“Don't touch me, you're crusty. What do you want?” Ben demanded hating this reminder of what he truly was.
“Oh, not me, the magnificent Glory. She wants. She wants more information on the Slayer’s sister, she ... knows you know her.”
The Slayer’s sister? I don't know any Slayer, let alone the sister of one. Get away from me, you shouldn't be here.”
“Oh, I believe you do, sir. She's short, symmetrical, hair on top? Dawn something.”
“Dawn Summers sister was the Slayer?” Ben’s mind whirled at the possibilities.
“That's the one! Very clever of you, sir.” Jinx as always tried to compliment the annoying human hoping to butter him up enough to get the information he needed. Ben suddenly ran before Jinx could stop him, out of the room, down the hall and out of the hospital. He slowed down as he made his way to his car but was suddenly intercepted by Jinx again.
“Tell my sister I'm sick of running into her Jawa rejects.” Ben yelled angry that these little rodent had managed to follow him.
“It's just, Glory ... would like to encourage this interest of yours in the Slayer’s sister. It might lead to more information about the key.” Ben sighed, it was always about the key with her but now Ben knew who the key was and Glory was closer than she knew to finding it. He knew he had to stop her, it was an innocent girls life on the line but he didn’t know if he could stop them.
“And why would I share that with the most unstable one?” Ben mocked.
“Time ... is running short, sir. Every moment you fight Glory, you're only fighting yourself, you see?”
“Fine. Let the best me win. Let Glory understand this: I won't help her find the key. I would never do that to an innocent…” Ben stopped himself but realised that he had already let the cat out of the bag. He had just endangered Dawn.
“An innocent? The key? That's an interesting choice of words.” Jinx had jumped at the slip up and knew that Ben knew more than what he was saying but what he had said had narrowed the search down considerably. Jinx needed to get back to Glory to tell her the fantastic news.
“No, that, that's not what I…” Ben attempted to backtrack despite knowing it was too late.
“I understand, sir. I'm sorry to have bothered you, I'll ... take my leave.” He turned to leave but Ben stopped him desperate to protect Dawn.
“You understand what? When I said it's innocent, I didn't mean that the key is ... it's not a person.”
“Of course not.”
“You're gonna run and tell her, aren't you? Do you understand what's going to happen if she finds the key? How many people are going to die?” Ben pleaded hoping the minion would see reason.
“Please, I heard nothing.”
“I can't let that happen.” Ben had gone beyond desperate now, and without thinking about what he was doing he grabbed a dagger from Jinx’s belt.
“Don't you see?” He pleaded as he stabbed Jinx and watched as he gasped.
“I can't.” What he had just done was against every oath he had ever taken to help and not hurt living creatures, human and non-human. He looked around nervously glad to see no one there as he pushed Jinx towards the ground and then he took off.
