Disclaimer: I do not own the characters of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel the Series. They are the property of Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy et al. I do not make money from the writing of this, it is purely entertainment. I do not mean any disrespect to the actors who have portrayed these characters. This fic contains explicit Male/Male relationships if you are adverse to this or are under the age of eighteen then please do not read. Thankyou to all the online writers who help keep the Buffyverse alive.
Summary: What if Buffy couldn’t stop the snake demon before it got back to Glory. Starts in the Buffy Season 5 Episode Shadow but then goes AU. Angel is the same as cannon up to this point except that Darla is not visiting Angel in his dreams despite having been brought back by Wolfram and Hart you’ll find out why later. Furthermore, this follows Jenns fic Playing Games found at AdultFanFiction or the Slashaholics Island. You don’t need to have read that to follow this but I do recommend it as it’s a great fic. I moved the timeline back a bit so that by the Season 5 Ep Shadow the boys are a threesome and Spike and Xander are only in Sunnydale to pick up their stuff before moving in with Angel.

Chapter Thirty-One
Wesley was working on the computer while Gunn paced round the office attempting to ignore the smell of sex permeating the air. Angel, Spike and Xander had finally emerged from this very office four hours ago dishevelled and looking sheepish, well, except for Spike who had been only wearing jeans with the top button undone and a smug smile. That was too much for Wesley who hadn’t been able to string three words together as Angel had told him that they were going to get a couple of hours sleep and that they needed an address for Lindsey’s home by the time they came back down. Gunn couldn’t understand Wesley; one moment he was Mr Suave holding a gun at his former employers head and the next moment he couldn’t look his boss in the eye because they had heard the three of them having sex in the office. However, right now they had bigger problems to deal with and Gunn was still trying to get it all sorted in his head.
"Okay. I'm still trying to get this family tree straight… Darla sired Angel."
"Correct." Wesley replied absentmindedly as he continued on his search for Lindsey McDonald.
"And Angel sired this Drusilla?"
"Back when he and Darla were together, yes." Wesley looked up at the pacing man, just glad that Gunn could pace and wasn’t stuck in that wheelchair anymore.
“Then Drusilla sired Spike?”
“Yes, but she couldn’t look after him because she’s insane so Angel took over.”
"This is before Angel got his soul back, right?" Gunn asked trying to clear up all the details in his own mind.
"Certainly." Wesley replied noticing how the light bounced off Gunn’s bald head; he wondered how it would feel to run his hands all over that dome.
"Now these lawyers, they brought Darla back as human. Now this Drusilla…vamp goes and bites Darla?"
"So it would seem." Wesley looked away from Gunn lest the dark man realised that Wesley had been staring.
"Making her a vampire again." Gunn got to the point of this whole thing.
"That's the cosmological upshot, yes. Darla's human self has died and sometime before dawn, unless Angel can stop it, she will rise again, a soulless demon." Gunn shook his head at the big words Wesley used, this guy was the biggest brain he knew yet he had the self-confidence of a weasel, how could that be?
"So that means..."
"The clock is ticking." Wesley went back to typing sure he had almost cracked the code.
"No, no, what I'm saying is, that means the granddaughter remade the grandmother."
"Oh... yes." Wesley hadn’t thought about it like that before too caught up in the ramifications of Darla as a vampire again.
"Man, somehow that weirds me out more than the whole bloodsucking thing." Before Wesley could reply Angel came in and grabbed two containers of blood out of the small fridge. A moment later Spike and Xander sauntered in, both munching happily on some toast.
"How do you feel?" Wesley asked and then blushed, thinking of the possible connotations of his innocent words.
"What do you got?" Angel asked of Cordelia who was at another desk, all business handing Spike one of the containers and taking a drink out of the one left in his hands.
"Uhm, sunset is at 5:47 P.M. which is,” she looked at the delicate watch on her wrist “was six minutes ago, and sunrise is at 6:15 A.M." Angel downed the last of the blood and watched Spike dunk his toast into his blood before eating it.
"It could happen anytime before then. Anything?" He asked Wesley.
"Lindsey McDonald's assistant says he is in the office, but he's in a meeting. Has been all day. However, I found this address that might help you." Wesley handed over a slip of paper with the address to an apartment building.
"Right then." Spike was the one to speak placing his empty blood container on the table before grabbing both his and Angel’s coat.
"I'll go with you." Gunn offered not wanting to lose track of the three of them again.
"Yes. We all will." Wesley told him standing up.
"No. You're all staying here," Angel was adamant.
"You can't go in uninvited, remember? You need us!"
"Not this time." Xander was the one to reply when he had been silent since walking through the door.
"So, what's the plan? Stand outside his door and make remarks?" Cordelia asked sarcastically.
“No, they kick down the door, I go in and push his wheel chair bound ass out of his apartment,” Xander replied before turning and leaving knowing that the two vampires were right behind him ready to kick some lawyer ass.

The three lovers stalked down the hall ominous and silent until they stopped, without words, in front of a door that looked exactly like all the others. Except this door was very different to all the others because this door was suddenly kicked in by a furious but icy Angel. Xander stepped forward then stopped as what he was seeing registered in his brain. The apartment was completely cleared out, not one stick of furniture nor a forgotten trinket to be seen, just walls and a floor. The two vampires moved into the room, no one living there meant that they could waltz straight in like they could in any shop or public place. Angel stared shaking his head not being able to believe that his only lead has dried up. They payed no attention to the woman who appeared in the open door behind them until she spoke.
"Excuse me. The open house isn't until Saturday." She told them wondering how they had got into the apartment, she was sure she had locked the door.
"The man who was living here, do you know where he went, pet?" Spike asked using all his ‘big bad’ charm on the chit, that never seemed to fail.
"Moved." She replied as she walked into the room wanting to see more of the sexy blond.
"When?" Angel asked, but she didn’t pay him any attention still staring at Spike as she answered.
"Ah, the truck was here yesterday."
"Did he leave a forwarding address?" Spike asked after sharing a glance with Angel that clearly said that Spike would be able to get more out of the real estate agent.
"Well, I really… can't give out..." she stammered knowing that she should be kicking these three out but not being able to bring herself to it.
"This is an emergency. It's regarding a… a mutual friend who's in need of some immediate… medical attention." Spike told her moving closer and smiling his sexy smile. “I really need to get in contact with him.”
"Well, he's asked that I... forward everything to his place of employment… Do you know where that is?" She asked trying to build up the courage to ask this mysterious stranger out for coffee.
"Yeah.” Spike answered bitterly moving towards the door.
“Thanks." Xander threw over his shoulder needing to be polite despite their disappointment.
"This is about the… cousin, isn't it?" She asked not wanting them to leave before she at least found out the blondes name.
"Cousin?" Angel asked turning around, hope creeping in again.
"That sweet, but very odd English girl who was visiting him?"
"Yeah. Yes, it is." Spike answered not believing their luck.
"I knew that pregnancy was in trouble the moment she told me about it. Thin as a rail. Couldn't be healthy… for the baby," she attempted to engage them in conversation.
"She said she was having a baby?" Xander couldn’t help but pipe up.
"She was very excited about getting the nursery ready for the birth. I offered to show her some two-bedroom..."
"Of course. Dru would want the ritual." Angel murmured out loud but thankfully the sales woman did not hear him.
"...But she wasn't interested. I... I think she wanted something on the west side anyway. She insisted that her daughter would be born near the stars."
"Stars." Spike echoed, thinking that it was typical Drusilla, that girl could always see stars even when they were inside in the middle of the day.
"Well, she's foreign. I explained to her you can live your whole life in Los Angeles and never even see a star." Angel decided that they had heard enough and to linger here would only waste the short amount of time they had to divert a disaster.
“Thankyou for all your help but we really need to get going.” Angel began ushering his lovers out the door.
“Oh that’s such a shame, look here’s my card feel free to ring me anytime,” she flirted handing the card to Spike disappointed that he only called out ‘thanks love’ over his shoulder before all three disappeared into the elevator.
*****
The three males jumped into Angel’s convertible while Xander was on the phone talking to Cordelia who was back at the office.
“Cordelia, just get us the list,” Xander was over the inane chattering of the ex-cheerleader.
“Xander, I just put you on speakerphone, do you know how many local cemeteries, funeral homes and mausoleums there are in a city the size of LA?” Xander was sick of arguing with her so instead he pressed speakerphone on his phone so that the vampires could talk as well.
“Whoa! You telling me we got to go to every one of these places and start digging up fresh graves?" The trio could hear Gunn’s incredulous voice.
"Drusilla will want to put the body in the ground." Angel justified knowing that this was an almost impossible task but they had to try.
"Angel, are you certain about this? A burial isn't necessary for a newly made vampire to..." Wesley asked knowing that it would widen the search impossibly further.
"It would be for Dru. She's a classicist." Spike told them remembering from personal experience, waking up in your own grave was definitely not a fun time.
"She's a loony," Willow stated from where she was on the computer in the AI office.
“Well yeah pet but that’s not the point,” Xander snuggled up to Spike from where they were sitting in the front seat of the car on the street outside Lindsey’s old apartment.
"Forget mausoleums. Stick with cemeteries, something with a view of the night sky." Angel decided knowing his child; she loved being outside near her beloved night sky.
"So, just outside cemeteries then." Cordelia asked being as sarcastic as possible.
"Yeah." Angel knew that it was becoming more hopeless every minute but he didn’t know what else to do.
"Doesn't narrow it down much." Faith commented, wishing she was out there with the boys instead of sitting around the hotel.
"If it's just a burial she's after one doesn't need a cemetery for that, I'm afraid, just… dirt really." Wesley as always needed to be the bringer of bad news.
"Still not narrowing. Whole planet? Pretty much made up of dirt." Cordelia was really in a sarcastic mood as it was her way of coping with this turn of events.
"Maybe we’re looking at this wrong, pet… Dru doesn't see this thing as a death… but as a birth. She talked about getting the nursery ready."
"Spike, I fear you may be looking for a logical pattern in the rantings of someone who doesn't think logically." Spike shook his head at Wesley’s words despite the other Englishman not being able to see him. No one knew his dark princess better than him and he knew that even though Dru saw things differently there was still a sort of logic in her thoughts, granted, not earth logic, but it was there.
"Soil… Soil near the stars. She said she wanted to be near the stars. She used to talk to the stars. She spent hours in my garden in Sunnydale, communing with the night sky." Angel mused out loud knowing the answer was there but he couldn’t quite grasp it, Xander however did.
"Maybe she didn't mean baby nursery…Well you said she liked the garden. Plant nursery's got the dirt… the view… and it's more of a birthplace than a death place. Maybe if we look for one up high that'll be it."
"Maybe look for one that has a relationship with Wolfram and Hart." Willow piped up already searching through their computer files. Silence suddenly reigns except for the tap, tap, tap of computer keys as Willow worked her nerd magic and got the information they desperately needed. After a minute she spoke.
“Alright, I’ve got it Angel, they have a roof top nursery, I’m sure this is the one.”
*****
The trio pull up at another anonymous building and while Angel parked, Spike suddenly grabbed Xander and kissed him passionately, until Xander’s brain was mush and he was definitely not thinking with the top head. Spike’s lips left his, leaving him in such a daze that he didn’t pay attention to his surroundings until a ‘click’ sounded loud in the night. He whirled around to find one hand handcuffed to the steering wheel. Xander looked in astonishment at his lovers.
“Hey! What’s the big idea?” he demanded answers.
“Sorry Xan but we can’t risk you, sneaking up undetected will require vampire skills,” Angel tried to justify his actions but Xander was having none of it.
“No, no, no! You undo these right now buster or…”
“Xander, love, its for your own good.”
“NO SEX” Xander yelled over the top of Spike’s explanation.
“Wot?”
“You heard me Spike, no sex, that goes for you too Angel, if you don’t let me go right this instant. I forgave you for the whole drugging thing cos of the near death experience but I won’t this time.”
“Oh, baby boy, you don’t mean that,” Angel tried to entice Xander to rethink but he was having none of it.
“Yes I do, I can’t stand the thought of you two up their without me watching your backs.”
“And we can’t stand the thought of you being thrown off a roof, pet.” Spike sighed and knew that Xander would never admit he was safer down here. The human sat rigidly in the car staring straight ahead and not paying the slightest attention to the two vampires now that he had had his piece. “C’mon luv,” Spike turned to Angel. “We’d better go deal with this.” Without another word the two vampires approached the building, leaving their annoyed and upset human consort handcuffed to the car.
