It happened every once in a while; a customer would get a little out of control. This would be the second time one of the patrons had dared to touch her. Usually she never worried about it as the club made their rules known and there were no exceptions. But on the odd occasion a customer would throw caution to the wind, and just like the last time she could still feel that man’s hands all over her. It made her feel dirty and she wanted to go home to stand under the shower for hours.
Walking out of the club, Alex crossed the street to her car alone despite Nick and Eric, two of the club’s bouncers, telling her to wait for them. She needed to get out and couldn’t wait until they were free to escort her to her car. She wore a cross around her neck and carried a stake, she’d be fine. As she passed by an alley she heard a loud whimpering that slowly tempered into begging. Whether it was the ‘Scooby’ in her or something else, Alex couldn’t ignore the pathetic moaning. Gripping her stake she entered the alley.
The scene that greeted her had her stopping in her tracks. The stake she held would be of no use to her. This evil was human. A man was face down on the ground, being restrained by one man as another was roughly pulling down the struggling man’s jeans. Despite the amount of evil demons that she had seen in Los Angeles, the evil humans far outweighed the other. Opening her purse she removed the mace spray and Taser she always carried with her. She could go back to the club to get help, but the time that would take would not save this young man from rape. She refused to allow that to happen to anyone.
Raising the mace she sprayed first one man and then the other. Both began screaming in agony before moving towards her. “Take one step closer to me and you will regret it.”
Alex was glad that her voice was strong, not revealing how scared she truly was. She could hear footsteps coming near and the shouts of Eric and Nick calling her name. Alex called out to them just as the taller of the two men shot towards her. She did not hesitate in using the Taser. His body shook with the electric charge before she released it and he fell to the ground silently.
“Don’t move.” Alex raised the Taser towards the other man who looked like he was preparing to make a run for it. Nick and Eric burst into the alley and she doubted she had ever seen such a welcome sight as those two. “Jeez, Alex. You couldn’t wait, could you? What the hell happened?”
Alex could feel the earlier adrenaline high slowly leaving and felt weak. “Eric, could you call the police?”
Eric nodded, pulling out a cell-phone from his pocket. The man she had used the Taser on remained on the ground while the other kept darting looks between Nick and Eric. Deciding he’d probably rather chance running instead of the dealing with the police the guy sprinted. Alex watched as Nick grabbed him, throwing him up against the wall as he attempted to leave the alley. By that time, Eric had given the address to the police but who knew how long it would be before they got there.
It was then Alex realized that the young man still lay on the ground. She leant down, laying a hand on the man’s shoulder. He flinched, pulling his hands up to cover his face and began muttering softly. “’m sorry. God I’m so sorry.”
The phrase was repeated over and over again without stopping. She couldn’t stop the gasp that escaped her lips. “Spike?”
Alex noticed immediately how he recoiled at the name and searched for another thing to call him. William would probably cause the same reaction as Spike. There was a reason he was William the Bloody after all. She didn’t want to scare him. “Will?”
Those frightened blue eyes peered up at her in confusion and Alex felt her stomach drop once she caught a good look at him. His face was swelling, blood dripping from a gash on his forehead mixing with tears to stream down his face and over his split lip. His jeans were still resting around his thighs. Bruises were slowly starting to form on his hips where the taller man had been gripping him as he pulled the jeans down.
He couldn’t defend himself against humans. The thought that this could happen to him had never occurred to her. Thank God she had interrupted them in time. Alex started to talk in hopes that he would allow her to help him. “Will, I was a friend of Anya’s in Sunnydale. My name is Alex and I just want to help you so please don’t worry. I’m just going to help you with your jeans, all right?”
A slight nod and Alex pulled his jeans up le ble by little so as not to upset him. Seeing Spike like this, as far from the ‘Big Bad’ as he could get sent a wave of distress through her. Not that she and Spike had ever really got along but she would never have wished such a situation on him. Looking down at his tear-filled blue eyes and scared expression Alex couldn’t stop herself from wrapping her arms around his shaking form.
She pulled Will half into her lap, murmuring softly against his forehead. Placing a gentle kiss at his temple, she began rubbing his back soothingly. “It will be all right Will. I’m here and I’ll help you.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The police had shown up and after taking their statements they hauled the two attempted rapists away. Thankfully Will had not been asked to talk to them, though he had been given a business card along with a request to come and see them in the next few days
Alex knew that she needed help in caring for Will. There was only one person she knew in L.A. she could go to for help and she hated to call him but…
“Angel Investigations, we help the helpless.” The voice on the other end sounded like they were forcing themselves to sound cheery.
“I need to speak to Angel.”
“He’s not in at the moment. Can I help you?” The voice sounded a mixture of worried and annoyed so Alex decided to keep it short and simple.
“Tell him it’s about Will and he can contact Alexandra at Harem.” Hanging up the phone she returned her attention to the vampire curled up in a ball on her bed, arms wrapped tightly around himself.
