Disclaimer: I do not own the characters of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel the Series. They are the property of Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy et al. I do not make money from the writing of this, it is purely entertainment. I do not mean any disrespect to the actors who have portrayed these characters. This fic contains explicit Male/Male relationships if you are adverse to this or are under the age of eighteen then please do not read. Thankyou to all the online writers who help keep the Buffyverse alive.
Summary: What if Buffy couldn’t stop the snake demon before it got back to Glory. Starts in the Buffy Season 5 Episode Shadow but then goes AU. Angel is the same as cannon up to this point except that Darla is not visiting Angel in his dreams despite having been brought back by Wolfram and Hart you’ll find out why later. Furthermore, this follows Jenns fic Playing Games found at AdultFanFiction or the Slashaholics Island. You don’t need to have read that to follow this but I do recommend it as it’s a great fic. I moved the timeline back a bit so that by the Season 5 Ep Shadow the boys are a threesome and Spike and Xander are only in Sunnydale to pick up their stuff before moving in with Angel.
Beta: The amazing Bubbysbub as always spent time beta-ing this for me

Reviews: Lady Virgo1956 A bit of what I'm writing now is all cannon but I've changed it to add Anne and they're in LA etc so you might find a suprise or two in store. I don't blame Dawn about being upset, having found out you're whole life is based on a lie wouldn't be a pleasant thing at all. Thanks for the review, enjoy this chapter
Daeomae Thankyou for giving me the 150th review I've ever received on AFF. Glad you like anne in the story I decided that I wasn't going to use the whole Blood Money plot from cannon but I love the character so I had to sneak her in there somewhere. Hope you enjoy.
A/N: A big thanks to Jenn for allowing me to use some of her ideas evident in Playing Games. Buffyworld is back! A big thanks to Howard Russell for bringing such a wonderful resource back online. This chapter is for Daeomae for giving me my 150th review at AFF
Chapter Twenty-Six
Dawn and Anne rushed through the corridors becoming completely lost, they had no idea which way was out and didn’t have time to stop and ask someone. Besides, at this time of night, no one was around to ask and the halls were mostly deserted. They finally came to a stop at a dead end, one of the corridors just ended with no way out except the way they had come. They turned around, hearts pounding wildly in their chests but their was no sign of their pursuer, they cautiously took off back up the hall hoping to find an intersection before Glory, cos Dawn was sure it was her, the monster who had killed Buffy, found them. As Dawn ran past a door she found herself falling, hitting the floor head first hurting her already damaged head. She looked up as Anne ran back to help her and watched Anne’s face turn into a look of horror as she suddenly came to a stand still. Dawn was suddenly aware that someone was standing beside her. With a sense of doom Dawn slowly peered up the long denim clad legs over the red silk blouse til her gaze met that of Glory’s. Oh shit, they were in for it now.
“You're… you're Ben...” Dawn was completely petrified and therefore spoke the first words that fell into her mouth. Anne started to move slowly backwards hoping to sneak away and go find help, a security guard and if that didn’t work maybe Gunn and friends. Glory raised one finger towards Anne and she stopped knowing that she was stuck and Dawn would be hurt if she left. She couldn’t do that to the girl.
“Uh, it's an eensy more complicated than that. Family always is, isn't it?” Glory caught Anne’s longing look down the hall.
“You'd never make it. I'd rip out your spine before you got half a step. And those little legs? They wouldn't be much good without one of those.” Suddenly Glory had left Dawn and was right in front of Anne. “Would they, girlie?” Anne was extremely alarmed and glanced over Glory’s shoulder at Dawn. The look on the girls face made Anne worry even more. She looked like she was getting ready to do something incredibly stupid and brave.
“Your Glory right?” Dawn suddenly asked in a shaky voice.
“How did you know that?” Glory asked turning away from where she was menacing Anne.
“You murdered my sister.” Suddenly Glory got it, it had been nagging her since she set eyes on the girl, there was a resemblance, and she had just worked out who it was to. The Slayer. Which led to an interesting point, how could the Slayer’s sister talking to Ben of all people, in LA, be a coincidence?
“Now. What I'm trying to noodle, is what in the world was the Slayer's little sis doing here with gentle Ben?” Glory asked grabbing the other girls hair and dragging her effortlessly back to the Slayers kid sis. Anne stopped herself from gasping, Glory’s words ringing in her ears. Buffy’s sister, or maybe it was another slayer’s sister. How many slayer’s were there anyway?
“Y… you don't remember?” Dawn asked half in relief, half just stalling for time, hoping someone would spot them. ‘Why didn’t I just stay in the hotel,’ Dawn asked herself. At least then she would have all those people around her caring for her.
“Remember what?” Glory asked, pseudo caring as she brushed her hand through Dawn’s hair. “You were talking to him, not me.” Glory looked from one to the other before reaching an improbable but amusing conclusion. “Oh, he wasn't being naughty, was he?” Before either girl could protest a hospital guard strode around the corner.
“Excuse me, ma'am. This area's for hospital personnel..” Before he could even finish his sentence Glory had turned around, grabbed his head and twisted it around one eighty degrees, breaking his neck. Glory turned back to Dawn and Anne leaning down to where they were sprawled on the floor.
“Rude! I was talking! What do you say ...,” Glory began pulling them to their feet, “we find a nice place off the beaten, where you and I can have a long uninterrupted chat.” Glory sauntered round the corner pulling two very scared women with her.
*****
Spike, Angel, Xander and entourage were moving down the street where Dawn had her accident earlier, peering into bushes and shadows as they passed. Suddenly, both vampires came to a standstill, sniffing the night air.
“Blood, Dawn’s blood,” Angel remarked before they took off. They only travelled a couple more blocks before stopping. When Xander and the other humans caught up, Spike was squatting, sniffing a substance on his fingers that he had obviously dipped into the small pool that lay in front of him.
“Its hers,” Spike told them in defeat, he had hoped that when they found her she would be unscathed so that he could rip her a new one. ‘The bit should have more sense than to run off by herself,’ he thought.
“I’m pretty sure she left here by car,” offered Angel after he had sniffed the surrounding area for any trace of Dawn. Xander sighed in defeat.
“Guess we’d better check the nearest hospital.”
****
Shortly afterwards the gang ran into the nearest hospital and Cordelia went to the reception desk to find out if Dawn was there. They had already agreed that she was probably the best one to fake being Dawn’s concerned relative. Xander watched as she had a quick conversation with the nurse on duty before turning back to them.
“She wasn’t brought in,” Cordelia gave them the unhappy news, at least in hospital she would have been relatively safe. As they turned to leave a doctor shuffled past them leading a bunch of security guards.
“ ...found him on the floor on level three. You guys gotta see him. His head's almost twisted clean off.” As one the AI members turned and stared after the retreating backs of the security team. Wesley knew exactly who used that M.O as they all did having lost one of their members that exact way.
“Glory.” Was all Faith had to say to spring the whole group into action, they had to find them.
******
Glory pushed Anne and Dawn into an empty exam room before waltzing in herself. The lab was full of X-ray display cases, racks full of beakers and test tubes. Glory shoved Dawn against a metal counter. Glory had had some time to think while they found this room and she had thought up the best strategy to find out what she needed to know.
“Okay. Small talk over. I'm in a bit of a crunch here, so let's cut right to the ooey gooey center. Your sister, the Slayer, had my key. It's mine, I want it.” Glory suddenly spoke softer trying to do her impression of good cop, bad cop. “Do you know where those friends of hers squirreled it away? There's ice cream and puppydogs in it for you if you start singin'.”
“I'm not sure. What does it look like?” Dawn asked nervously knowing that she was in a precarious situation and that Glory could choose at any time to kill her. Glory was distracted by the question and thought fondly back to the last time she had spied it.
“Well...” she replied becoming nostalgic, “the last time I caught a peep ... it was a bright green swirly shimmer. Really brought out the blue in my eyes.” Glory suddenly became cross as she remembered why she didn’t have it now. “But then those sneaky little monks pulled an abracadabra, so now it could look like anything. You see the predicament I'm in.”
“Maybe...” Dawn began stalling for time frantically attempting to find a solution out of this impossible situation while Anne kept her mouth wisely closed.
“Yes?” Glory asked eagerly needing to find her key and get out of this appalling dimension.
“Well, maybe if you ... told me more about it, I'd know if I've seen it.” Glory sighed, leaning forward she placed her hands either side of Dawn and gazed into the girl-child’s eyes. Dawn gasped and tried not to fidget, sure that Glory would look at her and suddenly see that she was the key.
“Okay.” Glory agreed before hoping up on the exam table opposite Dawn and Anne with her back to the door. Dawn waited for Glory to begin while Anne stood up beside her trying to silently give her support to a Slayer’s sister. Glory stayed silent so Dawn began to speak.
“So this ... key thing ... it's been around for a long time?”
“Well, not as long as me, but ... yeah. Just this side of forever.” Dawn tried to process this new information about herself, she had apparently been around forever but she didn’t remember that time at all. All she could remember was being Dawn and most of those memories were false.
“Is it evil?” Dawn finally asked the question that had been plaguing her since she had found out that she wasn’t originally a human being.
“Totally!” Glory didn’t even hesitate in answering and Dawn felt her stomach plummeting as she gave a gasp of dismay. Anne watched her trying to work out what was going on between the two people in front of her knowing that one of them was definitely not human. Glory was loving that she seemed to have a rapt audience and that they were hooked on her every word. She laughed before continuing.
“Well, no, not really. I guess it depends on your point of view.” Glory continued, feeling like it was important to tell the truth for some strange reason.
“What's it for? I mean ... if it's a key, there's gotta be a lock, right?” Dawn asked again, wanting answers no matter how much the truth would hurt.
“Yes. We have a winner.”
“S… so what does it open?” Dawn asked attempting to be casual. Glory sighed before replying, she had worked out that Dawn was trying to find out as much as she could about this key hoping to get a look.
“I smell a fox in my hen house.” Glory was pissed, she was a God, not a fool. “Is that why you've been playing sugar and spice with old Uncle Ben?” She jumped off the table feeling the need to do some violence. “Trying to get a peek at Glory's unmentionables?”
“No, I…” Dawn backtracked quickly, wanting to placate Glory.
“Shh! I kinda wanna hear me talking right now. Me talking,” Glory menaced getting up right close to Dawn in order to intimidate her. “You know what I'm starting to think? I'm thinking ... that maybe you ...” Dawn felt apprehensive sure that at any moment Glory would realise that she was the key that the god had been searching for. “…don't have any idea where my key is.” Glory spun away from Dawn feeling confused and knowing that she needed to feed soon. “Very irritating. Irrational. Know what I mean, tiny snapdragon? Like...” Glory banged her elbows down on the table trying to gain a grip on herself. She leant over rubbing her head scowling at the annoyance that made her crazy like this, part of her exile, well she was going to fix it, but first she needed to eat, then she had to find that blasted key. “ ...bugs under my skin. And say,” Glory realised that she was still talking crap and closed her eyes sighing, needing to get herself under control again. “I'm feelin' a little...”
“What's wrong with you?” Anne asked , the first thing she had said since Glory had captured them.
“Hey.” Glory had forgotten about the other woman, now she had a solution. “Hey! This doesn't have to be a complete waste of my precious time.” She turned around deciding to eat Anne then threaten Dawn a little longer before torturing and killing her. “I've been meaning to send the Slayer’s friends a message. And I could use a little pick-me-up. Two birds, one stone, and” She clapped her hands in front of a petrified Dawn’s head. “Boom. You have yummy dead birds.” Before Glory could wrap her hands around Anne’s skinny little neck the door burst open and the AI gang and Scoobies stormed in with Angel, Spike and Xander in the lead.
“Get away from her.” Xander yelled.
“Hey, we were just talking about you.” Glory replied, as Dawn ran over to Tara.
“Conversation's over, hell-bitch,” Spike menaced but before he could strike Glory Angel was there. Punching Glory with a right, then a left before ducking a punch and kicking Glory. Glory recovered and Angel and Glory grappled furiously before Angel spun her around and slammed her into a display case. Glory managed to kick Angel away. Glory pressed her advantage and punched Angel sending him reeling. Faith had snuck up behind Glory and grabbed her, pinning her arms against her sides. Despite her struggling Faith was able to hold her while Spike punched her in the face and Angel righted himself.
“I thought you said this skank was tough,” Faith bantered with Angel, but that was a mistake, because Glory broke free, and grabbing Faith’s arm, flipped her over, throwing her against a wall. Glory picked Spike up and head butted him as Xander moved behind them holding a tire iron. Glory threw Spike effortlessly and he slid across the exam table, crushing medical equipment and sending shards of glass flying everywhere. Spike fell off the other side and landed against the wall unconscious. Xander watched concerned but did not go to Spike knowing that if they could not stop Glory they would all be in for a world of hurt. Wesley stood beside Xander holding a crossbow.
“He wakes up, tell your boyfriend to watch his mouth.” Glory remarked to Faith drawing closer to her while she was still winded, but Angel got between them first, glaring.
“He’s my boyfriend.” Angel told her before lunching into a full out assault of punches. Wesley tried to aim the crossbow but Angel was in the way and Wesley didn’t want to risk hurting his boss. Willow and Tara were standing on the sidelines holding small leather bags and chanting softly. Angel went to kick Glory but she grabbed his foot and examined it.
“Hey, those are really nice shoes.” Glory pushed Angel’s foot away and Angel was forced to complete a back flip to keep upright, he managed to kick Glory in the face on the way down and spotting Wesley he shouted.
“Wesley, now!” Angel dived out of the way and Wesley fired the crossbow. The arrow just bounced off Glory’s stomach but it was evident that the whole exercise had just pissed her off more.
“Oh, please. Like that's..” She began but Xander had seen his chance and after darting forward bashed her over the head with the tire iron. Angel’s stomach flipped as he watched Glory grab Xander.
“Hey! Watch the hair.” Glory flung Xander away and he flew back into Wesley causing them both to crash into the x-ray display screens which exploded showering sparks all over them and Dawn and Anne in their hiding place. They shrieked as they instinctively covered their heads with their arms. Glory was not in the least bit impressed, she pointed the tire iron at each of them.
“Time to start the dyin'. Start with the whelp!” Glory threw the tire iron at Dawn and everyone stared in shock, frozen in that moment.
