A little while after filling out paperwork for her friend and driving Dawn back to Sunnydale for Spike to babysit, Buffy was back in the hospital room. She had almost fallen asleep when she heard a groan, and jolted up.
"Will?" The redhead strained to get her eyes open, grimacing at the light.
"B-Buffy..? Where.. Where am I..? Where's.."
"You're in the hospital, you're safe." Willow shook her head slightly, trying to push herself up.
"Where's Tara? She was hurt.." Buffy blinked in confusion.
"Wasn't she the one who hurt you?" Willow looked at her in surprise, as if she honestly didn't see that coming.
"Goddess, no! She was the one who saved me and got me here!" Willows eyes widened in horror, "You.. You didn't.." Buffy shook her head quickly, pushing her friend back down gently.
"No, no, she wasn't here when I got here, Will." Willow frowned suddenly,
"Wait.. How did you know where I was..?" Buffy smiled solemnly,
"I was your top emergency contact, they called me." Willow bit her lip, lowering her eyes.
"Do.. Do the others know..? I.. I'm sorry about.." Buffy shook her head, gently shushing Willow,
"Don't worry about it. I haven't called Xander or Giles yet. Only me, Spike and Dawn know.. And about Tara, I get it Will." Willow smiled meekly, tears sparkling in her eyes.
"She.. Shes really not here..? She.. Left me..?" Buffys stomach flopped. {She really is in love with Tara, isn't she?}
“I’m.. I’m sorry.”

For the next few weeks, Willows physical health got better. She did all that was asked of her, but without much enthusiasm. In fact, she rarely spoke to anyone. They had tried bringing the rest of the gang to see her, but she wouldn't even say much more than ‘Hi’ to even Xander. Currently, Willow could hear Xander, Buffy and Giles talking outside. She knew it was about her. It always was. Buffy and Xander rarely left the hospital. Dawn had tried to do the same, but Buffy kept insisting she got rest, and after some time, she just stopped coming back. Knowing the weight she was putting on her friends only made Willow feel worse, but she couldn’t seem to muster up any energy. Sighing, Willow listened to the three talk outside.
“She.. went through something traumatic, its normal.” Giles said slowly, making Willow frown. {You weren’t there. How do you know if it was ‘traumatic’ or not?} She looked down at the blanket, guilt flopping in her stomach. She knew they were only doing what they were out of love and concern, but it seemed rushed. Like when Oz left. Willow narrowed her eyes. Was that what this was? Another lover leaving? {I gave up the right to call her that when I got her home burned down. I messed it up, just like with Oz.} A fresh wave of tears crashed over her, but her friends continued talking.
“But.. shouldn’t she be.. Happy shes gone? I mean, shes a vampire!” Xander protested in what he thought was a whisper.
“That doesn’t.. That doesn’t stop her from loving her, Xand-” Buffy’s voice was an actual whisper, but Willow could hear it anyway.
“Oh right. You’ve already gone through this, right? Well I don’t want to wait around for /her/ dead ‘friend’ to kill some of us. Maybe its just better to get it over with before she knows the difference.” Willow went to jump up at that, but Buffy kept Xander where he was,
“We don’t know where she is, and we have no way of knowing unless she pops up on TV. But she seems smarter than that.”
“Not only that, she’ll be expecting us.” Giles added calmly. Xander scoffed slightly, but didn’t say anything more about that.
“But then.. How do we help her?” His small voice made Willow curl into herself.
“I.. really don’t know.” Giles admitted solemnly, “She has to want to be helped, first.”
“..Why wouldn’t she..?” There was a silence, and Willow pulled the blanket higher. She couldn’t wait to be out of this hospital. She knew one thing - she needed to find Tara. She didn’t care how hard it would be. She was reluctant to leave her friends without saying anything, but it would be easier that way. She was never good at goodbyes. Not that they would ever let her go, either way. But she hadn’t gotten a moment to herself. She had heard them say she was being discharged tomorrow, though. Maybe she’d get an opening.

Even once she had gotten to the cabin, Tara felt lost. She stayed there for a while, the hiking trails providing her enough blood. Days seemed useless and empty without Willow, as corny as it sounded. After about three weeks, the pull became too much. Getting back in the car, she started to drive back towards the hospital.
((In the chapter before the last, Tara let the other driver live because without his 'help', Willow wouldn't have made it. It was a sort of honor thing, I suppose.))
