Spike stopped right at the barrier. The soft blue glow illuminated the area around Willow’s house and the street in front. Spike took in the raged faces of the pack that had remained at the house. Their snarls and growls made the hairs on the back of his neck rise.
“Worst than Daddy you sat to tea with the hatter and hare, switched seats to new a cup but it wasn’t cleaned.” Drusilla walked gracefully up to the barrier and looked him in the eye.
“If you say so luv, did what I had to.”
“No tinkertoy by tin soldiers could ever stop you from flowing.”
“But it did luv. Where were you when I was starving?”
“No no no.” She growled, “The choices you made were after the party. The kitten was already a wolf in sheep’s clothing, waiting for the sunset to open the gates.”
“You’re kitten is nothing but a scared little sod with nothing better to do with his time Dru.”
“The stars gave him life. The moon danced in his shadow and told me to join the dance. The songs it sung were so pretty Spike. You should have seen how they waltz.”
“Wish I could have pet. Why don’t you tell ole’ Spike all about it?”
“Naughty naughty Spike, the bride shunt see her groom before the wedding. ‘Tis bad luck like rain on the festival. Kitten doesn’t want his new princess to spill the saucer that she filled.”
“Alright, luv. I won’t ask about the waltz again. Where is the whelp anyway?” Spike asked as his eyes traveled over the pack members that seemed to be lingering around the barrier.
“Gone to watch the smelly old slayer play.”
“And he left his beautiful princess? You know I would have never done that to you Dru.”
“Ah, but things have changed and the princess has fallen from her throne.”
“Never Dru. You are still as magnificent as always.” Dru giggled a little at that comment.
“You wish to save the little tree the pain that comes from being the sunset.”
“If I can.”
“You can’t help the little tree. The lumber jacks will come and take what they need leaving only damage and terror in their wake. You stink of her.” Dru hiss, her face twisted in disgust.
“Not her, no not her. I smell the little tree but that’s not the her I speak of.”
“Then I reckon you are referring to Madeline.”
Dru growled deep in her chest as her faced morphed. “The queen of hearts wants to scream off with their heads.”
“Dru, she doesn’t want to behead you.”
“She spins lies in her web. No matter she can’t stop what I have created. She lost her dance card along the way.” Dru laughed as she walked away, her body disappearing into the shadows again.
Spike hung his head before he pinched the bridge of his nose. In a flourish of leather he turned and headed back into the house. He had gained enough information from Dru to be able to tell Willow what to look for. His smirk grew as he walked onto the porch.
As Spike entered Willow’s house she greeted him at the door. Her eyes were full of desperation as she waited for him to speak. Her hands tugged at the bottom of her shirt as she shifted from foot to foot.
“Well?” She finally asked when Spike just stood there.
“Right.” He shook his head and looked away from Willow, “she’s mad at me for getting my soul.”
“Understandable.” Willow bit the inside of her lip as she waited for him to continue.
“Xander is watching the slayer as we speak.”
“Oh Goddess we should call Giles!” Willow turned to head towards the phone. Spike’s large hand wrapped around her upper arm to stop her from leaving the room.
“There’s more Red. She created those creatures out there. I’m not sure how but knowing her it was some sort of spell. She said I can’t help you stop it and she said Madeline can’t help either. But that last bit may just be the fact that she hates Madeline. The way she was talking though she just woke up a dormant beast within the whelp. Said he was already a ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’ whatever that bit means.”
Willow nodded and headed to the kitchen to call Giles. Her mind was spinning and flooding with thoughts and information. She felt herself start to slip into mental babble but shook it off. She really did not have time for this right now.
