“It’s an eternity ring luv, means I’m yours for eternity.” He faltered, “If you want me to be I mean, but you-”
Buffy halted him with a kiss, Dawn and Joyce’s necklace’s forgotten for the moment as they watched the couple. Giving him one more peck, Buffy pulled her lips away from Spike and rested her head on his chest, her left hand extended and a coy smile playing on her face.
Taking the hint, Spike extracted the ring from the box, snapping it shut and slowly slid the ring up her third finger, pressing a kiss to the diamond when it was in place.
“Mine.” He whispered in her ear, making her smile widen as she watched Dawn admire her necklace.
“Totally” She agreed with a sigh. The light played with the angles of the diamond, and Buffy was perfectly content to lie back on Spike a smile on her face and a dazed look in her eyes as her new ring sparkled. She couldn’t wait to show Willow.
Willow! She had promised to ring her tonight. Excusing herself, Buffy left the room to call her best friend, not wanting to appear to happy when Willow would be so sad.
Seeing that Buffy wanted time alone to speak to her friend, Spike decided to go to bed, his decision making everyone realise just how tired they were and soon Buffy was all alone downstairs.
Finally getting off the phone with Willow, Buffy quickly dialled Xander’s number, half hoping he had gone out so that she could go to bed. Hearing his voice as he answered, she forgot about bed as she chattered excitedly.
Spike awoke early the next morning. Rolling over he smiled at Buffy. She was fast asleep in her clothes, having just managed to crawl under the covers before succumbing to sleep. She looked to cute when she slept he thought. Pressing a light kiss to her hair, he showered and changed, leaving her snoozing as he went down for breakfast.
Joyce greeting him cheerily, passing him butter for his toast as she made her way through to give Anne her breakfast. Spike smiled at how natural it seemed now that all the drama was over. Dawn seemed OK around him, Joyce and Anne were getting on like a house on fire and he and Buffy were doing better than ever. Shaking away thoughts of consummating their love, he grinned at Dawn, agreeing to go out into the yard with her.
Throwing away the crust of his toast, Spike followed the teenager into the yard, catching the ball she threw at him.
Watching her boyfriend and her little sister out the window, Buffy smiled. Finally things were starting to go perfectly. School would be starting back up on Monday and Spike and Anne would be joining them again for Christmas.
She had grown accustomed to having Spike around and to be perfectly honest with herself, she was quite glad to have found out who he really was.
Knowing that he was her childhood best friend made the relationship they were beginning seem a lot safer.
Hating the fact she thought of him as some kind of safety net to keep her from being hurt again, she closed her eyes, leaning against the window thinking of how good her life would be with Spike.
Yep, life was definitely of the good.
That was until further inspection of the yard revealed a familiar red sports car. Sighing, Buffy closed the shutters, hoping that it was all just a mistake, that her eyes had deceived her. Unfortunately, when she peeked back through the shutters, he was still there.
She sank against the window, her ring sparkling when it caught a stray bit of sunlight. Smiling at her ring, she gathered up the courage she needed and flung open the door, marching out into the yard.
Ignoring Spike and Dawn as they invited her to join in, Buffy marched across the lawn and through the gate at the side of the garden. Standing with her hands on her hips, she was flanked by Spike and Dawn who had come to see where she was going in such a determined fashion.
Riley smiled as he watched his former stride out to meet him. His joy was soon overshadowed by the appearance of the British man and what looked to be Buffy’s younger sister. Knowing that the younger sister was in no such position of fortune, Riley wasn’t going to waste his time pursuing that avenue.
He had been home to visit his father and mother. After discussing the matter with his father, he had made an appointment to visit Hank Summers in Los Angeles, and was on his way back from this conference when he had decided to stop in at the Summers residence to try and reconcile with Buffy. If he was ever going to be somebody, he needed her at his side.
And make no mistake; Riley Finn was going to be somebody.
