Spike kept back as Xander crouched down just out of Blair’s reach waiting to be sure they weren’t going to be attacked by the terrified young man. Looking him over Xander couldn’t see to much damage to Blair. Tilting his head slightly Xander focused his hearing and locked on to Blairs heartbeat. Spike stepped up behind Xander and stood so his leg rested against Xander back. Xander blinked and brought his senses into play focusing on Blair. A visual check showed that Blair had scratch marks on his neck from the vampires fangs that were oozing blood a little but no evidence of a bite mark and although Blairs heart was pounding in fear it was strong and steady. Blairs scent was flooded with fear and shock but also had an element of curiosity and something Xander identified with confusion.
Xander realised that Blair was starring at him with a hint of fear in his eyes.
Calling on the soldier’s memories of how to deal with a victim in shock he softly addressed Blair in a calm and gentle manner.
“Do you recognise me Blair?” he asked gently.
Blair nodded slightly in answer.
“Can I come closer? I need to see if we need to get you medical help.”
Blair’s eyes flicked from Xander to Spike and back again. He hesitated before nodding again in agreement.
Xander shuffled slowly forward so as not to startle him and started to check Blair for any non-visible injures.
Running his hands up Blair’s legs focusing on touch Xander checked for any broken bones.
Once he had finished with Blair’s legs Xander moved on to the rest of him.
Spike frowned as Xander checked Blair over. He didn’t like the way Xander was touching Blair but he couldn’t place his finger on why he didn’t like it. As far as Spike could tell Xander was performing a standard medical check but was also using his senses to his advantage yet something struck Spike as wrong about it.
Cataloguing the injures as he found them Xander checked first Blairs torso and arms before checking his head and neck.
Xander turned round slightly and addressed Spike.
“He has a sprained wrist, three cracked ribs and a mild concussion. Nothing serious but we should take him to the house and get him fixed up. Once were safe we can explain what is going on to him.”
Xander stood and helped Blair to his feet.
After a few wobbly steps Blair started to sink to the ground.
Xander carefully swung the man up into his arms and started carrying him towards the summer’s house.
The walk was made in silence with Spike walking next to them scanning the area for any further threats.
