Disclaimer: I do not own Buffy the Vampire Slayer (BtVS) or Angel, the Series (AtS); nor any of the characters from them. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Author's Notes: Takes place during season 6 of Buffy right after Hell's Bells every thing is the same up to that point except that Giles came to Sunnydale for the wedding and is still in town. Also takes place during Angel season 3 but I changed a few things here. Here's my time line concerning Buffy and Angel. Hell's Bells takes place at the same time as the Angel Ep Benediction, but in my world when Angel goes to talk to Holtz, Holtz actually leaves and Connor moves into the hotel. Get it? Got it?Good. I use a few different languages in here (you'll see Italian, Spanish, and French, I'm a bit rusty so for all you linguistic experts, give me a break and just go with the flow.), the translation will always be directly after the statement in ( ). This is an answer to Candle's Challenge. The requirements will be at the end.
Dedication: To Karen, thanks for the fb...*hugs*
Part 2: Papa's Gotta Brand New Bag
Buffy's eyes narrowed. "What do you want with him?"
"You know him? We just want to talk to him. Can you help us?" Brody asked quickly her eyes shining with hope at their first possible lead.
Buffy noticed the girl's reaction; she seemed desperate to find the bleach blonde vampire. "Maybe. And you just want to talk to him?"
"Yes, I swear. Please, please just tell us where he is." Brody said, her voice catching and tears filling her storm cloud colored eyes.
Buffy took a step forward, hoping to comfort the girl but she stopped as her Slayer senses detected a vampire. As her senses detected Cassie. "You're a vampire." She hissed.
"So is Spike." Cass retorted.
"Please don't fight." Brody said stepping between the two women before anything could happen, tears dripping down her ivory cheeks. "We didn't come here for trouble, we just came to talk to Spike. Please."
Buffy's features softened as she saw the younger girl's distress. Cassie hadn't threatened her; actually she'd been down right cordial. "Alright, I'll take you to him." The slayer said to Brody then she turned her eyes to the vampire at her side. "But if I, for one second, think you are a threat, I will dust you. Got it?"
Cassie nodded, her eyes solemn.
"Okay." Buffy said. "Follow me."
They walked in silence for a bit then Brody spoke up when they entered the cemetery where Spike's crypt was. "It's Buffy, right?"
The Slayer nodded.
"Do you know what it means? Your name?" The girl asked.
"No." Buffy said with a shake of her head.
"It's pretty ironic really. It means feminine power."
"Really?" Buffy asked.
"Yep."
"Huh. I guess Mom was smarter than she looked."
"Was?" Cass asked softly her eyes still forward.
"Yeah. She died last year."
"I'm sorry." Cass said turning and catching Buffy's eyes with her own. The slayer was surprised to find genuine sympathy in those hazel orbs.
"Thank you." Buffy said sincerely. She looked away from the vampire and pointed ahead. "That's it."
"Buffy, why don't you go in first? He'll probably sense me and I don't want him attacking me before he knows who I am." Cassie said and Buffy nodded.
The slayer walked to the crypt and strode inside, not bothering to knock on the door.
Spike didn't bother to look up from the book he was reading. "To what do I owe the pleasure, Slayer?" He asked, then his eyes flew up as he sensed another vampire. The clear blue eyes widened when he saw exactly who said vampire was.
"These two were looking for you, Spike." Buffy said gesturing to the women behind her and watching in amusement as Spike, the vampire of many, MANY, usually endless words, stood up, speechless, mouth flapping like a fish out of water.
It took a moment for the blonde vampire to compose himself so Cass filled the silence.
"You're a hard vamp to find. I finally just gave up when we stumbled across Drusilla and tortured it out of her."
"You tortured Drusilla? She still undead?" Buffy asked.
Cass nodded.
"Pity." The blonde said with a grin.
Cassie answered it with a smirk of her own. "Oh, don't worry Slayer. I don't think you'll be seeing that nut case anytime soon. If she thinks I'm in Sunnydale she'll steer clear."
Spike chose that moment to re-join the world of the vocal. "Cassandra?"
The brunette vampire simply nodded.
"It's been how many years?" Spike said moving to stand in front of the woman.
"Sixteen." Brody said stepping forward so she was next to Cass. When Spike turned his eyes to her she continued. "Hi Dad."
Buffy's first thought was to laugh. For one thing, hello, vampire, and for another well, he was Spike. Spike couldn't be a father. But then she took a good look at Brody. She'd already noted outside the Bronze that the girl had similar features, like the cheekbones but now, with them face to face, the resemblance was startling. Brody looked like a young female version of Spike. Except for the hair and eye color it was a perfect match.
"Impossible." Spike said softly but Buffy could tell he was noticing how much the girl looked like him too.
"That's what I thought at first but I was obviously wrong. Can't you smell it, William? She has your scent and you've never laid your eyes on her before today." Cassie said. "She shares your blood. She's your daughter, William, our daughter."
"Angel." Buffy said suddenly and Spike turned to her with a raised eyebrow. "After I came back we saw each other. He has a son, Spike. I had completely blocked it out `til just now. Darla had a baby, she died during labor but the baby lived."
"Angelus and Darla have a son? My, he must be a little ball of sunshine, if he takes after his parents anyway." Cassie murmured.
"You know Angel and Darla?" Buffy asked.
"Of course I know them. Darla was my Sire." Cassandra told her. "I ran with them for 40 years, until Angelus was cursed."
"What changed?" Buffy asked. "Why'd you leave when Angel was cursed?"
"Spike changed. Without Angelus around to occupy Drusilla's time she devoted all her attention to him and he ignored me."
"That's not true!" Spike hissed.
"It is! And you know it!" Cassandra shouted as she glared at the other vampire.
Buffy heard a sigh from Brody and watched as she slowly backed out of the crypt as the argument became more heated. The two undead completely ignored the Slayer as she followed the younger girl outside. Brody had only gone a few paces and now sat on a tombstone facing away from the door.
"You okay?" Buffy asked as she moved to stand in front of Brody.
She shrugged. "I guess. I don't know why I expected them to get along. From what my mother said they never have, not really. I just hoped…I don't know. I guess I hoped they could get past all that, at least for my sake."
"If they hated each other then why were they sleeping together?" Buffy asked.
"Lust. Haven't you ever been attracted to someone you didn't like?" Brody asked.
*Yeah, your father. * Buffy thought as she mentally smacked her forehead for asking stupid questions. "Yeah I have."
"I just wanted what every kid wants. A family." Brody said quietly.
"I know how you feel. My parents got divorced when I was your age. I wanted nothing more than for them to get back together so we could be a family again."
Brody nodded and stared out into the darkness. "It was a mistake to come here. My mom told me that, she's been telling me since I was old enough to understand that he wouldn't want me, like he didn't want her, but I wouldn't take no for an answer. I begged and pleaded and screamed for her to help me find my dad. A lot of good it did me, huh?"
"Don't say that, sweetie." Buffy said as she sat down next to the girl and put a comforting hand on her shoulder. She looked at Brody and for a moment she saw Dawn and then she saw herself, right before she was called to be the slayer and as her parents' marriage was falling apart. "You deserved to meet your father, and Spike deserved to meet you."
Brody laughed bitterly. "Oh yeah, he seemed real happy to meet me."
"He's an ass. I could have told you that, but he's still your dad."
"Yeah, I know." Brody said wearily. "I just wish things were different."
"Yeah, but sometimes you've just got to play the hand you're dealt. This is the way things are, I wish that you could have the happy family you wanted but you have to learn to work with what you do have."
"Brody?" Cass called from inside the crypt.
"Out here, Mom." The girl called then she turned to Buffy. "Thanks."
"You're welcome." She stood and offered Brody her hand. The younger girl took it with a smile. They walked hand in hand back to the small stone building.
"Are you two quite finished bitching at each other for stuff that is in the fucking past? Stuff that happened over a decade or longer ago, things that you can't change?" Brody demanded with a sharp glare at her parents.
"Brody Leah Colter! Watch your language!" Cassie said with a frown.
"Why is it that you never yell at me when I swear in French or Italian but I always get reamed if I curse in English? And I have the right to swear, damn it! Look at the two of you, fighting like little kids!" Brody screeched.
Spike and Cassie looked at each other then at their daughter sheepishly.
"Sorry, honey." Cassie said.
"Sorry, pet." Spike murmured.
"You should be. Spike, how many times have you said something to me for fighting with Willow or Xander in front of Dawn? Like a million." Buffy said.
"Dawn?" Brody asked, turning her back on the two vampires, choosing to ignore them for her temper got the better of her again.
"My younger sister, you two are the same age, you should get along great. In fact why don't you come home with me now? I can introduce you. You can even stay with us while you're in town." Buffy said and began to walk toward the entrance of the graveyard with Brody on her heels.
"That sounds great!" Brody said with a smile.
"Don't I get a say in this?" Cass asked.
"No." Brody said snidely, still angry with her mother.
"I guess I deserved that." Cassandra murmured.
"Come on, luv. Let's catch up." Spike said.
"You're coming too?"
"Of course. I want to get to know my daughter." Spike said his gaze settling on Brody's retreating form.
"She's just like you. Sometimes she would do or say something and it just screamed `Spike'. I wanted to name her after you but I hated Willimina so I settled for your last name."
"I can't believe you even remembered my last name was Brody."
Cassie just shrugged and picked up the pace until they were only a few steps behind Buffy and Brody.
When they were almost to her house Buffy stopped and directed Brody to her porch. After the teen was out of hearing range she turned on the two vampires.
"I don't want you too fighting in front of her anymore. And Spike I swear on my mother's grave if you do anything to upset that girl I'll make you wish for death." Buffy hissed viciously then whirled around and stalked away leaving two bemused vampires staring after her.
"Protective little imp, isn't she?" Cass asked.
"You don't know the half of it, Cassandra." Spike said with a laugh. "Welcome to Sunnyhell."
