The bus ride took a little over two hours and in that time Xander
had figured that he was pretty much screwed. After the wedding, he
didn't have much by way of cash and the last few years experience
working as construction was useless to him, he would bet that he
couldn't even lift a two-by-four. His options were few with no
experience and no identification, at least not right now, he was
left with hardly any opportunities.
When the bus stopped he was no closer to a conclusion, he could
always go to Deadboy if he had to, but the thought of having to face
Cordelia and Angel certainly didn't have him rushing to the Hotel
that they called Headquarters. So running to Deadboy wasn't an
option. Standing up, Xander reached for his bag from the overhead
compartment, turning in surprise as a pair of hands reached out and
grabbed the bag from its spot and handed it down. "Here you go
honey."
Xander could only stare in surprise as the man looked down at him, a
smile on his face. "Yeah thanks." Honey? Who in the hell did this
guy think he was? Exiting the bus, he shouldered his bag and headed
out of the depot and onto the crowded street. Catching his
reflection in a store window Xander sighed, he was going to have to
adjust to the fact that he was a girl now and that is how everyone
would see him.
There was simply no way that he could afford an apartment with the
salary offered at fast food restaurants, which pretty much summed up
his experience. He was going to have to find a job that paid him
well enough to live in Los Angeles, as it was a great deal more
expensive than Sunnydale, California. As he continued walking he
thought over the options available to him. A few minutes later he
was shown a sign.

Six weeks later…
Alex shot up to a sitting position, out of breath as she looked
around herkenekened bedroom. The nightmares were becoming worse. The
first nightmare had been the very night she had arrived in L.A. and
then one or two the week after. With each passing week she stayed in
Los Angeles the nightmares were coming more and more frequently so
that now she couldn't even sleep through the night anymore. Her
sleep was beset with demon and vampire attacks on various faceless
victims. She didn't know how much longer she could take this; the
constantly interrupted sleep combined with the horrific images of
her dreams was slowly driving her crazy. She had lived on the
hellmouth, demon central, for over twenty years and she had never
once been plagued with nightmares.
A glance at the clock showed that it was only quarter to five, she
had just gone to bed an hour and a half ago. How was she supposed to
work if she never got to sleep? Climbing out of her bed she double-
checked the door was locked before curling up he whe window seat
that overlooked the city lights of Los Angeles. From her apartment
window, stories above the ground, Alex could almost believe that the
city she was now a part of was a peaceful place.
Despite the picturesque view she knew that to be false. In her time
since arriving in L.A. she'd had to stake eleven vamps. Slow,
compared to Sunndale, but those were the few that had actively
attacked her. Two of the vampires had come after her while she was
leaving the club, after that she always made sure to have one of the
bouncers escort her out. She had been a demon magnet in Sunnydale
and apparently that hadn't changed despite Anya's little
retribution.
Leaning against the window she let her head drop back against the
cushion and though it took another forty-five minutes, she fell
asleep in that awkward position. At noon her alarm went off and she
sat up, rubbing the kink from her neck before getting up to turn off
the alarm. Changing into her workout clothes she grabbed a water
bottle from the fridge before heading up to the workout room located
on the fifteenth floor. Thirty minutes after she finished her usual
routine she made her way to the pool located outside on the roof for
her standard thirty laps.
One of the first things she had discovered about being a woman was
that she had to work out much more than she had ever had to as a
man, at least if she was to still eat the way she wanted. After she
was finished with her swim she headed down to her twelfth floor
apartment to shower. The hot water felt heavenly after the pool's
cold depths. While lathering her still short and curly hair she
mentally checked off her plans for the day. A trip to the car wash,
shopping, dry cleaners, grocery store, and then back home to have a
quick dinner/lunch before going into work.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today marked the third week that Angel and Cordelia had gone
missing. She had been hinting to Charles that maybe they should
contact Wesley, but Charles would have none of it. Fred entered the
Hotel ahead of the two guys; Charles was going to find a parking
spot for the truck. Connor, who had been slightly dejected when
tonight's lead led to nowhere, was slowly making his way towards the
hotel behind her. When she entered the lobby she was surprised to
see suitcases standing off to the side.
Lorne was seated on the circular cushion; a smile made its way
across his face and Fred ran towards him. "Hello sweetie. Miss me?"
"Lorne, it's so good to see you."
Connor entered the Hotel humming softly as he made his way up the
stairs, he didn't even spare a glance for Lorne as he continued on
his way. She almost reprimanded the boy for his rudeness when Fred
saw Lorne's eyes widen scarily. She began to ask him what was wrong
when he gave a slight shake of his head.
