Xander opened his eye. He reached up to his face and felt the patch that covered the damaged part of his face. He wasn’t in the library, he wasn’t looking at the computer, he was in some kind of burned out building.

“I wasn’t expecting to see you here,” Willow said as she walked up beside him. “Is it over?”

“Is what…” he began to say, but was stopped as the door burst open. Having the opening didn’t help him pinpoint where he was, because all he could see outside was a horde of zombies.

He started to look for a weapon, but Willow held up her hand and said a few quick words. A purple light shot toward the door and threw the undead back and slammed the door shut.

“That will hold them for a little bit,” she said. “Why are you here?”

“I don’t know it’s…” Xander said as he rubbed his head. “Where am I? What’s going on? What happened to my eye?”

Willow paused for a moment as she studied him, “Oh, you’re between worlds. Wesley thought that might happen.”

“What?” he asked confused.

“No time to explain. You won’t be here for long,” Willow said as the building began to shake. “Oh, shit. I have to teleport out of here. Tara should have the counterattack prepared.”

“Tara?” Xander said as he began to feel dizzy.

“Yeah. Though she’s been a little distracted recently, what with the sudden memory of getting fucked in the ass by you in a movie theater.”

“Wait, what?” Xander asked panicked.

Willow just smiled, “I on the other hand find the whole experience empowering. I see the silver lining. Buffy on the other hand...”

Willow stopped as the building shook even harder. “Out of time. Just keep doing what you’re doing, you need to be the Champion.”

“Is this what happens if I fail?”

“No, Xander, this is…”

Wow, almost let the whole the shebang out right there.

“What was that?!” Xander asked shocked.

“What was what?” Buffy asked from right beside him.

“Ah! Buffy, I didn’t mean it!”

“Didn’t mean what?”

Xander looked around. He was back in the library with the computer on the desk. Buffy, Willow, and Tara were looking at him very strangely.

“Sorry, I kind of over reacted there.”

“Is this about the tentacle demon?” Buffy asked with a blush. “Because it was my plan as well as...wait, did you actually do something with my sister?”

“What, no.”

“Not that she didn’t want it,” Tara said. “Hey, do you want to hear again what Dawn and I did?”

Buffy blushed as she looked away, “No thank you.”

“Really, because I’m not sure you’ve masturbated enough to the idea,” Willow teased.

“I am not sexually attracted to my sister!” Buffy said but her face was beet red. “The Judge. What are we going to do about the Judge?”

“Buffy’s right,” Xander said as he looked back to the computer. The message was gone leaving him with the normal board. Generally he would be enthralled by the sexual discussion, but the vision of the future he had received had deeply disturbed him. “Where do we stand?”

Willow sighed with disappointment as she flipped open the books, “We have a lot of material, but no easy answer. There’s a lot on which types of physical and magical attacks might work against the Judge, but nothing that is a clear way to defeat him.”

“So more research then,” Xander suggested.

“Even if we get through all of this, it will still be a struggle for Buffy to take him down. That’s assuming we can do so before he attacks the town.”

“What if it’s not me?” Buffy suggested. “You said it could be physical or magical attacks.”

“Right, and unless you can use magic…” Willow began.

“What about you?” Xander said, seeing where this was going. “I mean, you and Tara, both of you have a grasp of magic.”

Willow suddenly looked very nervous, “I’m not sure that’s a good plan.”

“Even if we were to find what magic worked,” Tara began, “Willow and I would have to improve a lot.”

“No time like the present,” Xander said as he turned to the computer, his course set.

He had a nice chunk of points, building up all of those sexual relationships looked like it was paying off. He took a moment to look through the board and plan some things out. Veruca was going to become an enemy next turn if he didn’t act, but it looked like he was going to have to let that happen, he had too many other pressing issues. Otherwise, he didn’t have any social relationship that were in particular danger so he could focus on the big threats: the Judge and vampires.

His first step was to strengthen his party. He went to party actions and looked at the training options:

Training
25 - Light Training: Gain 70 stat points and 12 stress.
70 - Regular Training: Gain 135 stat points and 28 stress.
180 - Hard Training: Gain 195 stat points and 48.5 stress.
550 - Musical Montage Training: Gain 250 stat points and 79.2 stress.

The costs were higher than he wanted to pay. He could afford one training, but he wanted to get at least two in. He went back to the party screen, selected Buffy, and set her to no training.

Training
15 - Light Training: Gain 70 stat points and 12 stress.
40 - Regular Training: Gain 135 stat points and 28 stress.
80 - Hard Training: Gain 195 stat points and 48.5 stress.
225 - Musical Montage Training: Gain 250 stat points and 79.2 stress.

That was looking better. While he would like to make Buffy stronger, his primary need was getting Willow and Tara proficient in magic. He twice selected regular training.

He took a moment to look at the characters: Buffy’s stress had been reduced from 85 to 48, while Willow was at 69 and Tara at 104. The break had been good for Buffy, but he was going to have to do something about Tara’s stress.

First though, he needed to take care of all of those stat points he had gained. He pumped them all into magic. Even though they had the same number of points, Willow ended up with 6 magic, while Tara had 5. He guessed the system was accounting for Willow’s natural abilities.

Next, now that they had the raw magical skill, it was time to put it to use. He went into ‘purchase combat skills’ and used 4 experience from each to acquire the first level of “Battle Mage”. It left Willow with 0.5 experience point and Tara 3.5. The next level cost 7, so he might be able to get Tara there this game, but otherwise he was going to have to hope the first level would be enough.

He went into Tara’s character sheet intending to lower her stress.

He stared at the Go on a Date option and Committed. He had a nice chunk of points every turn, but more wouldn’t hurt. He went to look at her desires:

Gold Digger: Money is an aphrodisiac.
Hot Bod: Absolutely loves a person who is in shape.
Lesbian: Primarily attracted to other girls. Seduction is not impossible, but much more difficult.
Nice: Wants a compassionate partner.
Desires that you have: 3

The Gold Digger didn’t fit the Tara he knew, but he remembered it had been randomly assigned. He went to his character sheet and picked up the next level of ‘Money’ for 25 points.

22 Mojo: Go on a Date: Take the character out on a date. This increases your relationship by 29, gains 40 points, improves standing by 6, and reduces Tara's stress by 41.
43 Mojo: Committed: Go to a committed relationship with all sexual actions open, get 30 points per turn, and 60 points right now.

33 Mojo worked out perfectly, as it would leave him with 10 for what he planned next, so he took Committed. It didn’t help with her stress, but hopefully the points would be more useful.

Xander looked at his point totals. It was a good amount, but more would be helpful. He turned his attention to the available girls and settled on the one he knew would be easy to progress.

Dawn
0 Mojo: Casual Flirt: You have a light, flirtatious meeting improving your relationship by 13.5. This does not use one of this character's actions.
10 Mojo: Heavy Flirting: You have a more intense, flirtatious meeting. This increases your relationship by 24, gains 5 points, improves standing by 0 and reduces Dawn's stress by 11.
29 Mojo: Go on a Date: Take the character out on a date. This increases your relationship by 41, gains 10 points, improves standing by 1, and reduces Dawn's stress by 17.
10 Mojo: Sex Friends: Begin a very casual relationship based on light sexual actions, get 10 points per turn, and 20 points right now.
203 Mojo: Lovers: Start a more intense relationship with heavier sexual actions, get 30 points per turn, and 60 points right now.
504 Mojo: Committed: Go to a committed relationship with all sexual actions open, get 60 points per turn, and 120 points right now.

She was very far away from wanting any type of serious relationship, but a causal relationship was easy enough to move to.

The Judge was up next.

Name: Judge
Description: The Judge is a the ultimate enemy of the good. The more good a person has in them, the more damage the Judge can do. He cannot be killed, at best he can be dismembered. He has increased resistance to physical attacks. He will attack every turn starting on turn 8 and will do 50 damage.

15: Research an enemy Weakness - Your party will research the enemy looking for weaknesses.

60: Lower Magic Resistance - Practice ways for your spells to get past this creatures magic shielding, lowering magic resistance by 20%.
35: Lower Physical Resistance - Train for ways to fight this enemy, lowering their physical resistance by 20%
20: Lower Combat Strength - Lowers the enemy's combat strength by 5%.

Neutralize: These options can be used so that this enemy will not attack this turn and/or have any special effects. Enemy strength is reduced by 5% Each options gets progressively harder when it is used.
20: Stun the Enemy - Use magic to incapacitate the Judge. This stops its attack this turn.
Quick Fight: Perform a hit and run attack. You will fight them at just a portion of their strength in an attempt to neutralize them this turn. You only gain 25% of their experience. This can only be done three times.

Destroy the monster:
Combat - Engage Judge in battle.

Xander knew he couldn’t have the Judge attacking this turn, so he spent 20 points to stun the enemy. Next he lowered the Judge’s magic resistance, hopefully they could further attack that on future turns.

With the Judge temporarily taken care of, he turned his attention to the vampires. He had been spending a lot of turns just attacking the vampires once, but with the upcoming Vampire empowerement he decided to do everything he could to lower their numbers. He was prepared to spend all of his actions on it, but with the increased power his party had it wasn’t necessary. After three actions they had completely wiped out the vampires. They were even strong enough that for one of the actions he had Tara stay home, allowing her stress to drop back down below 100.

He took a moment to survey the board. The Judge was stunned, but only slightly weakened. The Vampires had been dealt with. Veruca was going to become a danger, but likely nothing on the level of the Judge. He had improved his relationships with Tara and Dawn, so he overall was in a pretty good position. He spent his last points on a normal study action so they wouldn’t have to worry about problems at school while they were fighting the Apocalypse.

If things kept going like this he was…

“Wait, no, I’m not thinking that,” Xander murmured.

Not thinking what?

“Not thinking that everything is going to be fine. You’re about to give me bad news about what my opponent has played.”

Come on, he only played one action.

“Just get on with it already.”

Unstoppable
Something has riled up the monsters and they won’t back down. No stun actions can be used on Turn 10.

“Got it, two turns to take care of things,” Xander murmured. As things began to fade he thought back to the vision he had at the beginning, and wondered what Willow had been saying at the end.
