But I am back now and hope to get this bad boy finished at some point. As always reviews are muchly loved be they good bad or indifferent. Thanks a Million~Noel**
“How’s he doing?” Buffy leaned over and whispered to Willow once she and Spike had gotten settled in at Giles’s apartment. Spike looked over at the girls and smirked from his place propped against the wall.
“Better I think.” Willow smiled back at Spike.
Buffy looked at Willow then at Spike. Spike’s eyes were trained on Willow, almost as if he could see no one else in the room. Buffy’s mouth dropped as she stared between the two of them. “Oh my god Willow!” Buffy practically screamed causing the red head to jump.
Spike growled from across the room as he glared at Buffy. His body became stiff ready for an attack. Just before he could make his way over to Willow the front opened and Giles ushered a very nervous Tara in.
Giles walked past the growling Spike on the way to the kitchen, “Stop that it’s very annoying…” Giles continued to walk but stopped and turned back to Spike, “Why do you smell of lavender?”
“Felt like being garden fresh,” Spike smirked, “got a problem with that Rupes?”
Giles took off his glasses and shook his head as he cleaned the lenses. He sigh before sliding the glasses back on his face, “Now that we are all here does someone want to tell me what is going on?”
“We will talk about this later,” Buffy whispered to Willow before she looked up at Giles, “I think Willow and Spike should fill everyone in since they know the most about what’s going on.”
“W-Willow?” Tara asked, confusion washing over her face. She studied Willow and then Spike before her eyes went to the ground.
Willow felt the heat on her cheeks as she watched Tara. She shifted her gaze to Spike who looked at her with a deep understanding. She wanted nothing more than to cross the room and go to him, let him hold her, make her feel ok. As if he could read her thoughts he swaggered across the room and slumped down on the couch next to Willow.
“When we went to Nevada,” Willow started but was quickly interrupted.
“We?” Giles asked giving her a look that only a disapproving parent could muster.
“Spike and I.” Willow offered.
“Have you completely lost your mind!? Running off with a soulless creature whose only concern is…”
“Oi sittin’ right ‘ere I am!” Spike interrupted. A pained expression crossed his face and he shook his head, “gotta take out the bad and mix it with the good. Clean it up, turn it on, take it out, not more burning, just light, just a spark.” Spike bent forward and pressed his hands to his eyes, gently rocking back and forth on the couch.
Without thinking Willow leaned over and placed her hand on his knee. “Spike, Spike look at me.” Willow whispered, “How about you and Buffy go outside and do a quick patrol of the area?”
“See if he’s here, the thing. Get it out. Take it out. Help Buffy, help beautiful sunset. Help me turn it off, shut them up.”
“Buffy?” Willow turned to her friend with begging eyes.
“Yeah come on Spike lets go hit something, bring back the big bad.” Buffy chirped blinking away the tears. He had been doing so well.
“Bad boys don’t get prezzies, William’s been a bad bad boy, William gets death and despair, loses ‘is mum. Can’t feel can’t see. Kills ‘is mum. No prezzie for William.”
“What the bloody hell is wrong with him?!”
“I’m bug-shagging crazy.” Spike spat before returning to his incoherent gibberish.
“Buffy.” Willow silently begged Buffy to take Spike outside.
“Come on William.” Buffy looked at the tortured vampire as if he were a wounded child. She reached her hand down and he took it.
They looked at each other for a moment before he spoke, “Still real? Still here?”
“Yah Spike I’m still real and I’m still here. Will you help me outside?”
Spike nodded and followed Buffy silently to the door. He only stopped for a moment by Tara and ran his cool hand down her face, wiping the tears from her cheeks. He gave her a soft smile then left the Watcher’s apartment.
“Right then what the bloody hell is going on? And you had best not leave out a single detail Willow.”
“S-s-should we wait for B-Buffy?”
“She already knows Tara she stayed with us yesterday.”
“At least you had some sense about you. Now on with it.”
“Giles I’m a big girl now, I can make my own decision.” Willow bit out before she went on. “If you are going to judge, Buffy, Spike, and I will handle this but I would really like your help.”
Giles pulled his glasses off and cleaned them. He sighed and shoved the lenses back on. He cleared his throat, “Well… uh...yes…very well.”
“Before I left for Nevada, Spike came to stay with me. I found him battered again and no one really seemed to take me seriously so I brought him to my house. He said he was taking a trip so I went with him.” Willow paused trying to figure out how much she should tell them. She took a deep breath before she continued. “We ended up in a grouping of caves with a blind woman named Madeline.”
Giles and Tara both gasped. “Y-y-you met M-Madeline?”
“Dear Lord Willow do you have any idea who you were with?”
“Apparently I am the only person on Earth who has no idea who she is.”
“How did you gain access to her?” Giles quickly sank down into a nearby chair, the color drained from his face.
“Spike is friends with her. She seemed really happy to see him. Well you know what I mean since she doesn’t really see anything. She seemed to be expecting me too.”
“W-Willow, Madeline is the l-l-living embodiment of Gaia. She upholds the balance of both l-l-light and dark on Earth. She is the oldest living prophet and has been granted immortality for her unbiased use of her p-p-powers.”
“Oh…Wow she is pretty cool then.”
“Willow did you behave?” Giles asked looking up. He pulled his glasses off his face and cleaned them again.
“Are you serious?! I know how to behave myself. How dare you…”
“W-W-Willow he meant your p-p-power.” Tara stuttered and her eyes went to the floor.
“She helped me!” Willow screamed, her face becoming red. Her hair streaked black, her eyes filling with darkness. “When we went to Africa she trained me in another plain. We were there for a year!” Her darkness had completely taken over. Her heart pounded as she tried to force her tears down. “She didn’t even know me and she trusted me more than either of you.” Her voice was dark and oppressive.
She closed her eyes and took several deep breaths. She couldn’t force her power back. She was so angry, so hurt, so annoyed, that the two people who should have been trying to teach her were accusing her. Her breaths were in short ragged pants as she tried to force her power down. She focused on the connection of the Earth that Madeline had taught her. She followed that connection to Spike. She could feel him walking towards the door to the apartment.
The power drained from her and she sat back down. Anger still very present in her eyes as she looked at her two accusers. She focused on Spike’s approaching form and the calming sensations sent to her from the Earth. She could feel a smirk pulling at her lips as she noted the fear in their eyes. She shouldn’t be happy that she had scared them but it was sort of satisfying.
“You were hardly gone a week Willow. How on Earth do you expect us to believe you trained with Madeline for a year?” Giles asked once he saw that Willow had calmed herself.
“She took me to another plain where we were with our doppelgangers. Can I please tell the story in order?”
“Yes sorry, go on then.”
“While we were at Madeline’s Spike decided he wanted to get his... his soul. Madeline told us about a demon lord guy that could give him back his soul if he passed three tests. The demon was in the place of unity in Africa. Right before we left I found out who had been attacking Spike and that’s what this meeting is about.”
“W-w-who? D-d-d-don’t you mean w-what?”
“I wish I did mean what. It’s Xander.”
“This is absolutely ludicrous! You spend a week with that filthy sodding…”
“GILES!” Willow raised her voice just enough to get his attention before she continued. “Once I found out it was Xander, Madeline told me that his Primal Spirit had been awakened and that it was very angry.”
“Dear Lord and she seems to think that Xander is what is to bring about the apocalypse then?” Giles rubbed his forehead and poured himself a drink of scotch.
“Yeah.”
“Oh my god Willow you watch your vampire from now on.” Buffy said as she tossed her coat onto the back of one of the chairs. “He’s quoting Hamlet and talking to squirrels.”
“Learned my lines. Told the truth. Talked to me mum, talked about the spark.” Spike had his hands pressed to the sides of his head as he closely followed Buffy. “Sunshine said no.” He grabbed Buffy by the arm and turned her to face him. His face shifted as he growled. “Told you to keep your ticket. Didn’t listen wouldn’t listen. Now you’re stuck.”
Giles stood grabbing a nearby stake. Willow held up her hand and Giles was forced back into his seat. Buffy’s wide eyes darted between Spike and Willow in terror. Spike scented the air before he laughed and released his tight grip on Buffy.
His face shifted back to his human form before he spoke, “I get it. The joke's on me. Lots of laughs. Yeah. Hey, bring the wife and kiddies. Come see the show. 'Cause it's gonna be a circus. This... just the beginning, love. A warm-up act. The real headliner's coming, and when that band hits the stage, all of this... All this... will come tumbling in death and screaming, horror and bloodshed.”
Tara calmly walked over to the agitated vampire and placed her hands on his cheeks. She looked deep into his eyes and his body seemed to relax. She let her one hand brush away some of the loose curls that were endanger of falling into his eyes. She gave him a soft smile. “It’s beautiful Spike. Your soul shines like the sun.”
