CHAPTER 18
RUNNING AWAY
Both Slayers froze when they saw Angelus standing there, smirking. He looked just like Angel now and Faith couldn't even form a word at first. Buffy flinched and caught Faith's hand tightly. She hated feeling so weak, but she knew she had no chance against Angelus on her own, they had drunk too much.
“Faith. Heard so much about you. I expected you to be taller.”-Angelus said, eyeing her curiously. But, Buffy was the one that had his attention. Despite being their blood bank, despite being absolutely exhausted and so pale she started resembling a vampire, that girl stood tall, staring at him ferociously, almost daring him to do something wrong.
He thought he could snap her neck in seconds, but it would be such a waste… “Buffy… Baby, where are you going? I thought you and I had something special. Darla likes you so much too, you can’t just leave…”
“Darla is dead.”-Buffy said, doing her best to make her voice sound strong and spiteful. She loved to see the stunned expression on his face.
“Aww, well, that’s… unfortunate… You two can’t expect me to just let you walk now….”-Angelus said and stared into their eyes, finding equal hatred and spite in both Slayers.
“And you can’t really expect us to stay here, Big A. You’ve done enough damage to B, there’s no way you’re touching me too.”
“You wanna fight me, Faith? Think you’re good enough?”-Angelus almost snorted, he was so confident.
“I’m five by five.”-Faith responded with her own patented smirk and expression no one really understood.
Angelus didn’t understand it either so he made a confused face and Faith used the moment to kick him where it hurt men the most, so hard he doubled over in pain. Buffy couldn’t help smiling when she saw him in pain and she felt a little boost of strength hitting her. She wasn’t in her full Slayer power, but she started feeling a bit more like herself when she saw Faith beat the hell out of a very surprised Angelus.
As much as Faith wanted to kill Angelus, she didn’t wanna just stake him, she wanted to make it last. She wanted to hurt him for hurting Buffy like that. She kept glancing at the blonde while pounding on him and just had to smile when she saw a little half smile dancing on Buffy’s lips. Those green eyes started sparkling again… it was so beautiful to see them sparkle after looking a bit too lifeless for a while.
Buffy clenched her jaw and curled her hands into fists when Angelus finally regained some composure and punched Faith so hard she staggered backwards.
She couldn’t let him have the upper hand again. She’d had enough of being slapped around, it was definitely time for her to fight back and show them all what a great Slayer she actually was. The best Slayer in that ever lived. She glanced at Faith and thought ‘Sorry Faith, but I am better than you.’
A bigger smile appeared on her lips and totally lit up her face and eyes when she ran towards Angelus and got him with a powerful round kick. He actually fell right on his ass and Buffy jumped on him, pinning him down with her strong legs.
“Welcome back, B.”-Faith said, smiling when Buffy started punching Angelus’ face as hard as she could.
She held this hands down with her knees as she pounded on him like she never hit anyone before. Faith thought Buffy reminded her of herself when she first got to Sunnydale. She’d always added a bit more of oomph in her fights, she’d liked beating vampires down almost to a pulp before staking them. She remembered how Buffy had complained about her behavior, but now she thought that Buffy finally understood it.
Angelus’ face contorted into the ugly vampire face, and it was bloodied and looking really dangerous and scary, but Buffy just grinned at him and smashed his head against the ground.
She was just getting ready to ask Faith to hand her a stake when a group of vampires suddenly showed up and attacked them.
“B! We have to run; you’re not strong enough to fight them all!”-Faith yelled and pulled a very disappointed looking Buffy off of Angelus.
He licked his lips, suddenly feeling confident again. He knew his boys would show up and save him. Buffy angrily glared at him for a moment, but she let Faith drag her away. She ran along despite her wobbly legs. Her heart was thumping in her chest and she thought it would jump out.
“CATCH THEM!”-Angelus screamed, he wasn’t done with them just yet. His minions ran after them, but they didn’t know H was hiding in the trees. They were all surprised when the girls jumped on a horse and ran away, laughing.
“What now? Where are we going? I’m sure Angelus will send vamps to look for us. Thowk might send his team too.”-Buffy thought out loud and she didn’t really like any of the options. They were so screwed one way or the other.
“I don’t know, B. We’ll figure something out. I won’t let them hurt you again.”-Faith said, and squeezed Buffy’s hands that were wrapped around her stomach. H ran like all the devils and Faith loved him. She hoped she would be able to find a way back to SunnyD and take that beautiful animal with her.
H stopped running when he realized no one was chasing them anymore. Tiredness took over him too and girls jumped off his back when they got to a little creek deep in the forest.
“Good job, H. Drink some water now, buddy. B, look, there’s a cave we can sleep in.”-Faith pointed her finger and wished she had taken a blanket or something with her.
“Great. I’m really tired now, think I’ll sleep like the dead.”
“Hungry?”
“Starved.”-Buffy answered when Faith took out sausages and a bit of bread.
“I’ll leave the mystery canned meat for tomorrow. God knows how long we’ll be wandering through this forest.”-Faith said and handed Buffy her sausage and a piece of bread.
“I really hope this isn’t human meat.”-Buffy said, but she was so hungry, she would have eaten a horse. Then she looked at H and thought ‘Sorry for even thinking that’.
When they finished eating, they drank some water from the creek and felt a bit better. But, tiredness really kicked their asses and they both yawned.
“Think I might be out for a week.”-Buffy said and crawled into the little cave. She was so ready to sleep now.
“You’re not the only one. So glad you’re with me now, B.”
“You’re my hero, Faith. You saved my life.”
“I’m the one who turned it into this hell in the first place, it’s the least I could do.”-Faith whispered and crawled in the cave behind Buffy.
Buffy was lying on her side and Faith slid next to her, wrapping her arms around Buffy’s petite body.
“I’m sorry I hurt you so bad, B.”
“It’s just time for a new chapter, Faith. I feel things might get better for us now.”-Buffy whispered and smiled when Faith gently kissed her cheek and said: “I hope you’re right…”
Buffy squeezed her hand gently and pulled her even closer, they were practically glued together. Despite the cold night, they weren’t cold. They kept each other warm, and none of them could remember the last time they slept so good…
