Xenocles could smell the Slayer. Her scent was driving him wild. He was an animal in heat, seeking out his mate. He stood before the Crawford Street mansion knowing his wait would soon be over.
Buffy started to come to. Her head hurt and she felt fuzzy. The only light in the room came from the fireplace. She knew where she was. No mistaking that painting staring at her from above it. Sitting up, she rubbed her eyes and her temples. And she realized the clothes she had on weren’t hers. She wondered where Spike was and why he had brought her back to the mansion. She stood up, but wobbled alittle as the room started to spin. She stood still for a moment and then the dizziness passed. She was thirsty. There was a decanter of scotch on the table in the corner and she went over to it. She poured herself a glass and the glass windows in the foyer shattered with a crash. She dropped the glass she had been holding. A booming, deep voice shouted, “Slayer!” And then IT was in the room with her. The largest daemon she had seen yet. And she wasn’t up for a fight just now.
