Chapter 11
Buffy had stayed the whole day in the Magic Box. She knew tonight was the last night for Spike to 'assassinate' her, before Thomas became the new killer. Spike, Giles, Willow, Xander, Anya, and Tara were all there during the day into research mode. Even Spike was helping. He sat on the table, drawing on a piece of paper. Giles looked to the drawing as he set another pile of books onto the main table."What is that?" The watcher asked Spike, looking at, what seemed to be, a coat of arms.
Spike looked up, just now finishing, and gave the watcher the paper. "This is the Order of Malus's coat of arms.... or symbol. Only symbol I ever saw anyway."
Giles rose an eyebrow. "And... how did you find this?"
Spike realized just then he hadn't told Giles, or any of the Scoobs about him being the 1st assassin. Only Buffy knew, and it seemed as though she wanted to keep it that way. Besides protecting him, he had no idea why.... but she didn't want them to know.... so he lied for her now. "Well, I.... had a lackey.... a... uh, minion a while back. Said he worked for them.... drew this out for me once bragging. I didn't believe him... after all, slayer dusted his ass quick the next night." It was a total lie. He had no minion.... it was him, he was the bloke that had been charged with the death of the slayer.... but why was he keeping it a secret again? It had sounded like a good idea at the time, to protect him from Giles who might want to kill Spike had the watcher known the truth. But now Spike was thinking, maybe it was best that they DID know. He looked to Buffy who was now searching through one of the books on the table. She watched as Spike gave Giles the drawing.
Giles walked away. Buffy leaned over, whispering to the vampire. "Why did you do that? Isn't it dangerous? I mean, you just gave the watchers council a major clue about the order."
Spike looked to her, whispering back. "The order is going to try and kill me no matter what. At least this way, I might take them down with me."
Buffy smiled. "Or take them down with me."
Spike shook his head. "Not going to happen." he paused a minute, then looked at her again, whispering. "Why didn't you want to tell Giles?"
Buffy looked back, not really having good answer. The truth was, she wasn't sure how her friends would respond. They might try and kill Spike and she didn't want that after he had just practically given up his secret. But also, she supposed, it was because she didn't want them asking, 'why.' Why had he done it? What was there to gain by it? She didn't want them to know he was in love with her. It was kind of embarrassing. "I guess I....."
Just then Willow walked up to the table, sitting down and throwing her book shut. "That's it! When the redhead gives up, you know there is no info, and I'm calling it. There isn't anything on the order of Malus we haven't already found. I say we start planning for his arrival and hold up here."
Xander nodded his head, standing next to the cash register with Anya. "Here here, lets load up and put up the barricades."
Spike looked to the group. "You don't think that Thomas wouldn't think of that? If he can't penetrate this shop to get to the slayer, then he'll just set it on fire, or blow it up."
Giles agreed. "Spikes right. Thomas is a professional assassin. There has to be a way to reason with him."
Spike made a gigantic buzzing noise. "AAAAEEENT. Wrong again Rupert! He won't reason, its kill or be killed. The only hope that Buffy has, is to agree to a fight one on one without trying to hide, run, or play some kind of trick. It the only way she can have any kind of advantage. If he knows you're going to play some kind of trick, he'll play dirty and use things like, guns, explosives, poison.... or simply starve you out."
After a long pause, and not really doing much of anything but thinking about what was just said, Buffy turned to Spike. "Gee, thanks for the pep talk couch."
Spike turned. "Its not a pep talk. We have to set something up. It's the only way he'll fight fair. Ill.... I'll go and talk with him."
Buffy stood. "No, you're not going anywhere."
Willow furrowed her brow. "Buffy, Spike is right. He should go talk with this vampire. Set up a fair fight with you.... otherwise we open the floor for alternative tactics that could get us all killed a lot quicker."
Buffy shook her head. "No... I... we can't use Spike for that."
Giles looked to Buffy. "Why?"
Spike looked to Buffy, questioning her with his eyes.
Buffy continued to stand. "Why don't we just leave this Thomas guy a note? No one has to risk their life. Why can't we do that?"
Giles shrugged. "I don't see why that wouldn't work."
Buffy nodded. "Settled. Well write a note, and leave it for Thomas to meet me in the gym tonight at 10pm. Then... we fight!"
5:30 am, Magic Box gym.Buffy looked at her watch, then to Spike, then to Giles. "I don't think he's coming....."Xander sat in the corner with an axe. "Damn assassins not keeping their appointments."
Spike continued to stand next to the back exit door looking out the glass windows. "I don't see anything."
Buffy sighed. "Well it's not like I can hide in the magic shop waiting for him.... but I can't lead him to my home, or really anywhere else. And even then I can't even let my guard down until this is over."
Willow turn to her friend. "What should we do Buffy?"
Buffy looked ahead, determined. "We need to bait him out into the open and into a fair fight."
Giles looked to her. "How should we do that?"
Buffy put her head into her hands, sitting on the floor, deflated. "I don't knoooooooow."
Spiked looked at her, and hung his head. He knew this tactic. It was a classic one. Let you enemy sweat it out until they were so frazzled, they lost the fight when it finally happened. The vampire clinched his jaw, thinking about it. He knew he needed Thomas to fight them as soon as possible. How could he bait him into coming out without doing it himself? He wanted to tell the scoobs the truth, but why did Buffy not want them to know? Did Buffy not want them to know his feelings for her? Spike turned and watched as the skyline slowly became lighter. The sun was coming up. Thomas wouldn't try anything in the daytime. At least they were safe for another day.
Buffy has slept all morning at the magic box in the back office behind the cashiers counter on a small one person cot. Spike had slept downstairs in the basement, and everyone else had rotated in shifts to make sure the shop was never unoccupied. These were silly measures during that day sure, but they all cared for Buffy's safety so much.... they wanted to see her safe. The only good news, if there could be any in this kind of a situation, what that the note they had left had been taken off the front door of the shop. Of course there was always the possibility that a homeless guy had taken it, but more than likely it had been Thomas. In the afternoon, and into the evening, Buffy and Spike used that time to train in the gym. They cycled through routines, over and over again, while Spike lectured her on alternative ways to win in a hand to hand combat. At night, the group would wait for Thomas... but still nothing.
A few days continued in this way. Wake up, train, wait for assassin, go back to sleep.
The blond vampire was beginning to get agitated over Buffy not speaking up about his association with the enemy. He wasn't scared if her friends knew about his feelings. He didn't care one way or the other if they found out everything....even his feelings for her. But she kept dodging the subject day in and day out with them, and in his presence. It was getting on his nerves. Was she embarrassed of his feelings for her? And if so, why was he risking his own life to save the girl he loved, if she couldn't even acknowledge those feelings? He knew the possibility of her loving him back was probably slim to none, but still, what did she think of him- other than a training partner? Did she care at all, or worse.... was he being set up... was he being used?
The next afternoon, when Spike and Buffy had been left alone to train in the gym before the night's watch began, Spike swung at Buffy so hard- his chip actually went off.
The vampire head erupted in a blaze of electrical signals and he fell to the floor. Buffy hadn't seen that sight for a while. She didn't go to help him though, instead, her response, once he had stopped yelling, was kind of the opposite. "Hey, you just try to hurt me for real?"
Spike growled, getting up to his feet, a hand still on his skull. "Yes, I'm right pissed at you right now slayer! AHOW!"
"What, why?"
He turned to her, shouting in a frustrated voice. "We could have had this showdown over by now if you had just let me go out and find Tom for myself... rather than wait here 4 days for something to just.... happen!"
"He'd kill you if you went looking."
"Well, maybe I'd kill him, did'ja ever think of that?!"
Buffy shook her head no. "I can't let you risk that."
"Fine, then why don't you tell your sodding little slayerettes about me? Tell them why I came to Sunnydale! Tell them I was here to kill you first. Tell them Tom is after me too!"
"They won't understand. They might try and kill you too."
"Its worth the risk."
"There is no reason they need to know.... and that's not your call to make!"
"Why?! For the LOVE OF GOD WHY!"
"Because I.... I.... need your help."
"As cannon fodder?"
She looked at him, shocked he would think she would do a thing like that.
Spike continued his rant, softer now. "I've taught you all I know. As a slayer, you've picked it all up in 4 days when it had taken me 20 years. Your better than I am. Always have been- except for one thing." There was a long pause, before Buffy finally spoke up.
"What?" She said, looking at him confused. "What havent you taught me?"
He smirked, nodding to the door that entered the front of the shop, where the scoobs were located. "Tell them about me.... the truth, or I won't tell you what you need to know to defeat him."
Buffy face turned hurt. She was shocked that he would use that as leverage. "I tell them about you, it all falls apart."
Spike stared down. "What falls apart? Your plan? To use me as leverage to help you win? I die, you win, is that the plan?"
"I would never do that!"
"I can't believe you."
"Why?"
"Because I don't trust you...Buffy. With this chip in my skull you know I can't hurt you or your friends, so letting me around them doesn't prove that you care about me. Do SOMETHING to prove you care about me. Prove to me I'm not putting myself up into a position to die for a love I can't possibly have."
She stood there, shocked. What was she supposed to say to that? She did trust him, but this was all so new, all so fast. Was she supposed to trust him this quickly? So soon after he had joined their ranks? She needed more time- more proof that he was a changed. He still had no soul- and despite telling her about his love for her, was that enough to make him an alli?
As she was thinking this, he began to walk towards the door that entered the shop. "I'm telling them."
Buffy sprinted forward and got in front of him, blocking his way. "Stop, please don't tell them."
"Why? Why is it so important they can't know?"
She stood there, realizing she didn't have an answer. She had nothing left, nothing to explain. She simply looked to his lips, grabbed him by the front of his shirt, pulled him forward, and kissed him hard once. In shock, he pulled back after she was done, and looked at her with a face of complete astonishment. She looked back, waiting for him to respond to her olive branch.
He didn't speak. Instead his eyes softened, and he leaned in again, gently cupping her face the way he had wanted to before, and gave her the softest most sincere kiss Buffy had ever experienced in her whole adult life.
Taking his other hand against the center of her back, and pulling her waist forward to meet his own, the kiss deepened.
Buffy sighed slightly as she began to feel the stress of waiting for this ultimate battle pass. Instead, ocean like waves of pleasure swept through her in tides, urging her to fall deeper into that moment. She began to kiss back, slowly.
As Spike continued to kiss her, he couldnt help but begin to hear the blood pumping through her veins. He could feel, with his enhanced senses, a vibration... and throbbing of her heart as it pumped her blood, in a rhythm, though her veins below. How long had it been since he had had a meal? How long had it been since it had been fresh? He didnt want to think these thoughts as he kissed her. He would never hurt her, but the demon was taunting him now.
Suddenly Spike pulled away as Willow walked in, talking while she read a book in her hands. "Hey you guys, I just found this...." The redhead looked up, seeing Spike standing there normal, but for some reason, Buffy was standing in a complete daze.
Spike bumped Buffy slightly with his elbow, making her snap out of it and turn towards her best friend. "Uh, what Will?"
The red head continued. "I found this interesting.... in this book, about Thomas."
Buffy seemed interested. She looked at Spike quickly before walking over to Willow to read the book for herself. "What did you find?"
Willow read the book. "Well, I found this passage about Thomas and the way he likes to hunt. He killed a slayer in the 80's, and when he did it, it says there was some great evidence to support the notion, that he had watched her, and waited for quite a long while, a lot of time, until he had found a weakness to exploit. What weakness he found isn't specified."
Spike furrowed his brow, confused. "What do you mean?"
Willow continued. 'It seems to support what we are seeing now. He's laying in wait... and watching probably."
A few hours later, as was the norm of any night, the team again waited for Tom to arrive. They all continued to do their various things in and around the Magic Box. Tonight, it was only Giles, Xander, Buffy, and Spike in the shop. Tara, Willow, and Anya had all gone home after a long day of work.Spike looked to Buffy, remembering there kiss from before. He looked at her sitting on the staircase, watching as she drew pictures in a sketch book with a black crayon. He sighed, standing up, and began to walk up to her, but Xander got into his path.
Xander stopped dead in front of the blond, looked up to the vampire, and grimaced. "For the record, I don't like you."
Spike nodded. "Noted." He muttered, as the boy walked off. The vampire continued on his way towards Buffy, looking at her on the steps.
She didn't look up right away, but then, once seeing his army boots in front of her on the floor, She began to follow his feet up and finally spotted Spikes eyes. She looked up at him. "Yes? Is there something I can help you with?"
"Can I talk with you, privately?"
She nodded, putting the pad of pencil and paper down, and following him then into the gym.
Once she had entered the training area, he shut the door behind her. She turned and looked at the door knob. But before Buffy could ask him why he had shut it, he stepped forward and caught her around the waist. Grabbing her tightly, he kissed her on the mouth with a powerful frenzy, one so sudden and so shocking she was almost blown off her feet from the impact. She kissed him back, loving the feeling of his larger hands around her small frame. She began making kissing patterns all around his neck, before stepping back and purposefully throwing his duster off of his shoulders onto the floor.
He looked down, laughing a bit before she then went for his shirt. She pulled it off over his head and looked down, loving the sight of this more than perfect pale chest and abs.
He smiled, looking up to her, one eyebrow raised. "Nice touch."
She shrugged. "Not so bad yourself."
His smirked, leaning in and continuing his kissing her. Putting his arms around her waist and nearly bear hugging her up, he then lifted her, and walked to the side, laying her down onto the blue mats.
With the soft sounds of plastic rolling around her, she looked up and watched as he laid back down on top of her, kissing patterns around her neck and down her shirt collar line. Spike smiled, eyeing her, and let his tongue slid down between her breasts.
When she felt his tongue down her chest, she made a small buck and yelped out in surprise. "Spike!" She said, surprised.
He looked to her, gave a small wink, and then went down again to her mouth, kissing it gently this time.
She melted into this, wanting no more then to just stay here in this spot for all eternity and never let it end.
But, before too long, Spike opened his eyes- and they had turned yellow. He allowed his brow to descend and, with all his strength; he opened his mouth, and quickly bite down on top of the old bite scar lining her throat.
The flow of blood went from her neck to his mouth only for a second as the chip went off and he was left shouting.
He was experiencing now the most agonizing electrical event he had yet taken part in. It hurt so bad that he immediately stood up, grabbed his skull, and yelled at the top of his lungs before dropping to one knee, the feeling his legs going numb.
At this, Buffy suddenly stood quickly, aimed, and kicked his chest... hard.
Spike then went flying, across the room, his head hitting a wall, and he was done. He landed there in a pool by the door as Xander and Giles rushed into the gym after hearing the noise.
They looked at Spike pooled on the ground, and then to Buffy, who was now crying with a hand over her throat, Blood getting everywhere.
"He..... he attacked me."
A few hours later, Spike woke up in the Magic Box's basement, a small amount of blood rolling down his forehead from the head injury. He tried to bring his hands up to touch the injury, but felt suddenly jerk of chain against a pipe. He looked and his wrists were bound and he was chained to a large sewer pipe. He looked around, seeing the sun very slightly coming in through the crack in the upstairs door frame. It was morning. He turned his attention to the rest of the room...... and in the farthest corner, a shadow emerged. It was Thomas."Spike..... Spike, spike, spike." Thomas said softly, shaking his head. Thomas walked up to his former protégé, and crouched next to the blond. "What have you been hiding?" he said.
"Thomas," Spike began. " Let me loose."
"Oh... no.... no Spike, I can't do that." Taking a stake, he began to hover the tip of the sharp side, over the chest area above the blonds heart.
"You going to do it here? Now?" Spiked asked, looking to his once partner.
Thomas smiled. "Kill you? The order says I have to, yes."
"But?"
Thomas took the stake away, putting to the side."Can I ask you something?" Spike looked up, his face slightly swollen from the injury he had sustained from the blow to his head. Thomas leaned in. "I've always wanted to ask. What's slayer's blood taste like?" There was a pause then, Spike looking to Thomas, he looking back waiting for a honest answer. " I mean, The slayer I killed, I never got the chance." he began to laugh as he talked, unable to really believe what he was saying himself sometimes. "She jumped out a window. There was nothing left for me to try.... after that splat!" He chuckled. "I guess I worked that one too hard."
"You.... you didn't.... didn't kill her? That Slayer in the 80's?"
"No...." he whispered. "It's something I've never told anyone.... and no one will ever know.... because you won't live on to tell it. But, before I dust you..... you didn't answer my question!"
"Slayers blood?"
"Yeah, tell me. I'm looking forward to it this time."
Spike thought a moment, then looked to Thomas."Its bloody ambrosia, the sweetest thing I've ever drank. Its powerful, hot, sudden, and full of purpose." He smiled, looking to Thomas. "And Addicting."
"Yeah?" Thomas leaned in, wanting more details.
"Yeah, and you know what else?" Spike began. "You'll never get to taste it. This slayer isn't like the others. She'll dust you. You don't have a chance!"
"Oh I have a chance. I learn from the best."
Spike furrowed his brow. He had always wondered. "Who? Who... who trained you!?"
"Well.... you did, of course." Spike looked up with a confused expression on his face. "Do you remember, when I asked you about your technique on the phone all those years ago? You were in New York, and on the phone you told me that, Slayers are 'people with problems. You find the timing, the proper pressure, and you can kill them. I thought about what you had said, after I found out you had killed your second slayer... I thought about that long and hard. And you know what I figured? Your right! This Buffy of yours, I've seen, she has a lot of problems.... but more than that, she has.... or had.... you."
Spike looked up at him, confused. "What the hell are you on about Tommy?"
"Don't lie! I saw what just happened before sunrise! I have cameras all over this shop, including ones in the gym. I SAW everything. " He spoke casually. "You love her, and she loves you, and now that she knows that you can't help yourself.... to have a taste.... your down here, chained up, and she's up there.... I'll have you know, I saw her crying over the love she lost. This is the perfect time to strike at her, when she's most vulnerable! And I have you to thank. You taught me when, and gave me the oppertun-"
With a sudden jerk, the chains behind Spikes back snapped and he was able to grab both Thomas's throat and the stake in his hand at the same time. With a foot firmly planted to the ground, and with an heavy toss, Spike threw Thomas to the other side of the basement, watching him fall into a large collection of boxes and books. Spike stood, the chains having broken at each wrist. Spike smirked as Thomas began to stand back up and get out of the debris. Spike stood for a moment, took the stake in both of his hands, and snapped the piece of wood in two smaller pieces that couldn't be used, and tossed them to the side.
"How did you break those chains?" Thomas shouted.
Spike strolled forward. "I'm just stronger than you."
Thomas laughed. "No no Spike. I know those chains. No vampire could possibly have the strength to break them... and I don't care what you say about slayers blood, that wouldn't have helped either."
"These chains?" Spike said, lifting up the ends on his wrists. Quickly he pulled the remaining bits off his wrists. "These ones you know so much about? You mean these replica plastic chains? Found most commonly in Halloween stores, novelty shops.... and magic shops?"
"I don't understand."
Spike Smiled. "Well you see, you're not the only one that knows about the cameras."
Earlier that Evening
Willow read the book. "Well, I found this passage about Thomas and the way he likes to hunt. He killed a slayer in the 80's, and when he did it, it says there was some great evidence to support the notion, that he had watched her, and waited for quite a long while, a lot of time, until he had found a weakness to exploit. What weakness he found isn't specified."
Spike furrowed his brow, confused. "What do you mean?"
Willow continued. 'It seems to support what we are seeing now. He's laying in wait... and watching probably."
Buffy turned to Willow. "How is he watching?"
Willow shrugged. "There are all sort of ways. But in this modern era, I know how I would do it."
Later that night, Willow was on her laptop, sitting in a far off corner behind the cash register. "Annnnnnnnd, there it is!" Everyone tried walking over to look at the laptop in that cramped little space. On the screen were several video screens, moving images from various small video cameras hidden inside of the magic box book shelves. Luckily, none of the cameras could see what they were doing now.
"Wow." Xander said.
"Ill say." Anya said, "He's seen us have a lot of sex. Can he hear?"
Willow shook her head. "Doesn't look like it, only image, no sound."
Buffy turned to Spike, and then continued to look back to the screen. "Can we dismantle them will?'
Willow nodded. "Oh yes, it's easy enough, just a matter of taking them down, or I could disrupt the signal."
"OOORRRR....." Spike began, looking to everyone. "We leave them up, and we send him a message." Spike began to smile, looking to all of them.
"What kind of message?" Giles said, looking to the vampire suspiciously.
Spike looked to the group. "Thomas will only attack if he thinks the slayer is weak. He knows, like I know, that he can't kill her in combat now. Thomas has to wait for her to become weak- and only then will he strike."
Xander chimed in. "Buffy's stronger than ever, she's been training with the unbreakable blond dummy for days... and she's fast.... how are we going to play it off that she's weak?"
Spike shook his head. "Not physically weak- mentally, psychologically... that is the best time to kill a slayer. When she isn't thinking about the fight, when her mind is not in the game."
Buffy agreed. "So your saying, if this is Thomas's M.O...... we pretend like something traumatic is happening to me, have me pretend to be upset about something... and Thomas will come, thinking he has the upper hand?"
Spike nodded. "Yes."
Buffy took in a breath. "OK, so, what do we do?"
Spike had a suggestion."Fight me off?"
Giles looked to the vampire. "Do what?"
Spike looked to the watcher. "Have her fight me off, make it look like I turned on you. Lock me up in the basement." He turned to the computer screen. "Seee? There is a camera in the basement you can watch. You can pretend to beat me, chain me up, make it look like she's crying or upset about my fighting her.... and Tom will come to me and gloat. If I were him, that's what I would do."
Willow rose a hand. "There's one problem with this plan. Buffy would never cry over losing a fight to you Spike. I'm sorry but if your plan hinges on you selling this....scene... in real life Buffy wouldn't get upset about a fight. Thomas will know the whole thing is a fake."
Buffy looked to the group. "Then I'll have to pretend to cry over something else."
Xander looked to her. "Like what?"
Buffy looked to them. "The one thing that has made me cry more than anything else in my entire life.... but your all not going to like it."
Now, Basement.Completely outraged after his explanation, Thomas rushed Spike and managed to grapple him into a nearby wall. The two vampire fell to the floor, pieces of ceiling and brick from the wall falling on top of them. Thomas immediately started to punch at Spikes face once they had landed.Spike blocked one of Thomas's throws and then rolled over. The blond stood, going to the stairs and trying to rush up in that moment, but Thomas quickly grabbed Spikes legs under the railing, throwing him down. Spike fell backwards, landing into a pile of boxes and debris at the stairs end. Thomas grabbed Spikes throat then, lifting the blond with both hands against the side of a wall.
Spike put his hands up on Thomas's, trying to free himself as his feet dangled. "You were never supposed to be a Member of the order!" he said, before throwing Spike into one of the far corners of the room. As the noise settled down, the assassin continued his rant. "You're a prick, a immature jackass who could only bring down the order's reputation. But they loved you more! You had gotten lucky! LUCKY with those slayers. It had been luck! You couldn't have killed them yourself! You aren't skilled enough. You never trained as hard!"
Spike was finally able to get some leverage over Thomas's hands, and twisted one to the side, falling to the floor.
Thomas wasted no time and began punching in quick reputation at the blonds gut and chest with his back against the wall, a combination of kicks and swings that would rival anything that even Bruce Lee could had done.
After the barrage of swings, Spike stood, delirious from the blows for a moment. Thomas suddenly grabbed him by the hair, and threw him, head first, over himself and onto his back on top of the staircase.
With a loud pound, Spikes back hit the uneven surfaces of the wooden stairs, and he was looking up at the ceiling. He coughed and there was blood that came out of his mouth.
Thomas, kneeled down, again punching Spikes face- hard. "You had everything! You had Drusilla!" punch. " You had the order!" punch "You had killed two slayers!" uppercut. "You were younger, but the favorite! WHY! Why can you do all these things and I can't?"
Spike looked up at Thomas between one of his almost swollen shut eyes. "Ill tell you." Thomas stopped for a second. He watched as Spike spit out some more blood from his mouth, rolling to the side. Blood dripped down to the floor from his potion half way up the stairs between the railing. He coughed a lot before looking up at his former trainer. "You know why, you've always known what I have.... that you lack."
Thomas broke the wooden railing of the staircase then with his free arm, making a stake in the debris, which he quickly picked up put to Spikes chest. "And what is that?"
"Fire." Just then, the upstairs door opened and in, like a deadly flow, flowed the morning sunlight through the large windows of the shops main glass doors.
Spike rolled suddenly, getting toasted on the shoulder, but falling off the edge of the staircase, under the railing, and landing to the basements cements floor. He looked back up as he watched Thomas burn. "That, and the ability to dodge the sun rather well, you ninny." He watched briefly as Thomas lit on fire, tried to stand on the staircase, only to completely give up, and crumble.... falling into ash.
When the dust had settled, Buffy entered, and quickly shut the door. "Spike?" She said, looking around. She looked outside. "Stay here, don't let the sun in." She said before closing the door behind her and rushing downstairs.
He laid back against the basement floor as Buffy rushed over. "We were watching the camera screens. You ok?"
Spike coughed blood and was still smoking a bit. Spike looked up at her. "You're lucky your pretty, because you do say the thickest things sometimes pet."
Buffy smiled. "Plan worked. He was after you first... AND, looks like he bought the fake scene."
Spike lifted a hand, cupping her face, and then let his fingers graze her now gauze covered neck wound. "Wasn't all fake."
"Its fine." She said, grabbing his hand and pulling it down.
He still looked up at her. "I never wanted to...."
"It was MY idea, and the only way I could make myself cry. I'm not an actress after all you know." She smirked. "Besides, that HAD to hurt your head too."
He shook his head slightly. "Ill be fine.
Buffy looked to Spike. "Hey, Spike, can I ask you something?" He turned his head, looking up at her. "That thing you said.... about the one thing I needed to learn to defeat this guy.... you never told me. What was it?"
"Oh..... I was making that up." He said, smiling.
Playfully insulted, she punched his burnt shoulder.
"OW!"
