Caught In The Act
"I don't understand, why are we here?" Annabelle asked as she followed Faith and Buffy carrying a crossbow with her to cover them as was the plan. They had taken her shopping to get new clothes since the last time they were out and they were still pretty conservative with long sleeves but extremely tight fitting and of course skirts and dresses were completely out of the question. Her hair was twisted up in a clip off her neck and she had silver barrettes at either side to keep it out of her face. "The First and Caleb have been letting Uber Vamps out of the seal on a regular basis." Buffy said. "We don't find and exterminate them to keep their numbers down on a regular basis they tend to come out and kill the few remaining residence of Sunnydale." Faith added. "What makes them . . . . 'uber' from regular vampires?" She asked never having seen either kind. "He really kept you out of the loop on what he was up to didn't he." Faith said pausing and looking at her. "I was extremely pregnant when we first came here, and teaching me all about this stuff wasn't really high on anyones list." Annabelle replied. "Stay alert you too." Buffy said as they continued to move through the cave. "Last thing we need is to get caught off guard by one of these things. I'm sorry that this has to be your first field test, Annabelle. Regular vamps seem to have more important things to do right now then prowl an empty town." "What do you mean, 'field test'?" Annabelle asked not really liking the sound of that at all. "LOOK OUT!" Faith said knocking Buffy out of the way of an ancient Vampire Claw. "Thanks for that." Buffy looked at Faith as they both started to get up off the ground. "No prob. I know you'd do the same for me, B." At once Annabelle started to fire off the arrows in the crossbow training her eye on the vital and weakest points. The arrows they used were much different then the ones they normally had. They were sharp like a scalpel and had several layers of spikes on the arrowhead. They stuck breaking through the Vampire's tough skin but didn't stop it. It rushed her not giving her a chance to reload and she ran towards it hitting it across the face with the butt of the crossbow knocking it back. Buffy and Faith hurried over and began attacking it as well with their weapons. Annabelle tried to reload but it was useless with how much her hands were shaking so she threw it aside and took out the knife she'd been armed with and rushed back into the fight. It was such a primal and instinctive animal that it's attacks weren't exactly thought out and well executed so much as it just wanted to kill them with whatever means it had. It knocked Buffy down and swung around it's claws tearing at Faith's face, and catching Annabelle in the shoulder. She cried out feeling as though she was going to be sick at the pain dropping her knife, and it started to lean forward to bite her. However, she reached out and grabbed it by the throat stopping it in it's attack. "What the hell?" Faith said as they watched Annabelle pry the creatures claw from her body never releasing it's throat. It took so many of them and usually almost killed Buffy to confront one without trained backup as she wasn't stronger then they were like normal vampires. Taking the opportunity while it was at bay, Buffy and Faith plunged their wooden weapons into the beasts back and it turned to dust disappearing. "What just happened?" Annabelle asked looking the dust on her hand where she had been holding the thing by it's throat. "I don't know. Your eyes changed color and you got . . . really freakin' strong." Buffy said. "That doesn't happen to Slayers." "Are they still different?" she asked looking between Buffy and Faith. "No, they're back to normal." Faith said. "Seriously, what the hell? She's not even a full Slayer yet, what was that all about?" "I never thought I'd live to see it." All three girls turned to see Caleb standing at the other end of the Cave. "My Annabelle, so growed up." Annabelle's eyes went wide as she just starred at him. "Bit more of you showin' then I'd like, but I think you're display of power and know how more then makes up for it." Faith and Buffy turned positioning themselves between Annabelle and Caleb causing him to laugh at the sight. "You can't stand between me and her, I suggest you don't try. All you're gonna do is get yourselves hurt." "Caleb." Annabelle breathed a million thoughts and emotions running through her at once. Buffy hadn't anticipated their running into Caleb tonight, and neither Slayer knew if she was ready to confront him yet. Willow's spell must have lost power or worn off for him to find her like this. "Annabelle, run. Get out of here." Buffy said keeping her eyes on Caleb. Yet the girl seemed frozen in place unable to move or respond. "Faith." She said letting her know that she needed to get Annabelle out of there before they lost complete control of the situation. Faith stepped back and took Annabelle's arm starting to run but she was still frozen. "Come on, move your ass!" Faith shouted at her to break her attention. It took a moment but then she turned away and ran with Faith. Caleb just starred at Buffy a smirk on his face. "Haven't completely convinced her how evil and unseemly I am yet, have ya?" He said. "Takes a little while to undo years of damage from the knots you tied in her brain." Buffy replied holding her sword close ready to strike if he came at her. "She's learning." "I think you might be the one with the learn' difficulties, seein' as how you're standin' there thinkin' you can stop me from gettin' to her. I could run right through you and wouldn't even break stride." He said with a laugh. "Then what are you waiting for." She demanded. "This is a new shirt, I'm tryin' to decide weather or not it's worth getting you're blood on it." He answered. "I think it's your blood you'd have to worry about." She said running towards him. However he simply reached out and stepped aside slamming her head first into the wall. Buffy fell stunned but not knocked out and shook her head slightly. "Ouch. You should probably get that looked at before ya try it again. I think your skull might have left a crack in the wall." Buffy tried to get up but she fell to the ground in a daze unable to get her balance. Caleb crouched down beside her folding his hands together, "See what happens every single time you forget your manners? Could be much worse, considering you and the Cane to your Able have been trying to teach her your bad behavior." Now Buffy was starting to lose consciousness with the cut across her head bleeding profusely. He grinned and reached out patting her head before standing and walking away his hands clasped behind his back whistling.Distracted
Buffy came to a while later and stood slowly reaching up touching her head and wincing at the pain. She decided not to do that again as it could result in another blackout. She sighed hating facing her mortality every time she confronted Caleb. She began to jog in the direction Faith and Annabelle had gone to try and catch up with them. In the Graveyard she saw a body laying near one of the crypts. She ran over when she recognized Faith's figure. "Faith!" She said kneeling down beside her seeing that she had a huge bruise on her face and a cut on her arm. Faith's eyes fluttered slightly as she slowly sat up. "Tell the guy with the jackhammer I'm gonna shove it up his butt if he doesn't lay off." Faith said with a groan. "What happened? Was it Caleb?" She asked looking around, "Where's Annabelle?" "Our sweet little southern belle is the one who did this." Faith said looking at Buffy, "Girl can hit like a cement truck. I guess we're good teachers." Buffy sighed and closed her eyes shaking her head a little. "She's gone back to them." "Sure as hell looks like it."To Be Continued . . . .
