Jenny_Wren: Maybe it's
not that common, but I heard it on tv. And I want to offer a little
something to you, since you so constantly give me feedback and
encourage me: If you have anything, you would like to happen between
Gunn and Wes, just email me and I will include it in the story.
Emma: Thanks for your
encouraging review.
I know that Wes' father
appeared in a season 5 episode. But since I have never seen that one,
I made him up the way I wanted him to be.
Chapter 11 – Revelations and Phone calls
“Cordy.” Wes could hear
the panic in his voice as he faced Cordelia, who still stood just
inside the door. The expression on her face was unreadable, but it
definitely was not happy as far as he could tell. Unconsciously
moving closer to Gunn, he waited for the inevitable explosion.
Cordy had already
opened her mouth to speak, when Angel stormed down the stairs, ready
to battle whatever threat had caused his colleague
to scream. Puzzled he halted at the end of the stairs, since there
was no monster in sight.
“Did you have a vision,
Cordy?”
“No. And Wes and Gunn are all
lovey-dovey with each other and didn't tell me.” She had walked
a bit closer to the middle of the lobby, her hands firmly pressed
into her sides, attempting to look stern. The mentioned lovers were
currently speechless, due to her obvious acceptance.
“Mmh, I know.” Already
focusing his attention on the coffee
machine, Angel ignored the happenings around him. He had known about
their relationship as soon as he permanently smelled them on each
other. What was the big deal anyway? Hopefully Cordy would get her
chiding them over with quickly, so that they could move on to their
current job.
What Angel hadn't
anticipated was Cordelia's sudden explosion, that was unexpectedly
directed at him. “What do you mean 'you knew'? And you didn't
tell me? As a friend you are supposed to tell me such news.”
Jabbing her finger into the vampire's chest Cordelia ranted on, while
Wesley and Gunn breathed sighs of relief, before carefully creeping
towards their desks.
Spotting them Cordy
whirled around. “I wasn't finished with you two.” Wes
would have liked to just hide behind the nearest desk, because if
Cordy's little tirade was any indication about the speech they would
be getting, it would take a while. Her face was stern as Cordelia
started to speak: “You are supposed to tell me such things,
too.” Then a sudden smile broke out over her face. “But
I'm happy for you.”
She would probably have
said a little more, but at that moment one of her visions hit.
Holding her throbbing head she quickly relayed all the information to
the others, who stormed out of their bureau.
Everything was back to their usual day-to-day routine.

The next few days went
smoother than Wes had ever imagined his life to be after he was fired
by the council. Angel and Cordy were supportive about his
relationship with Gunn, although she sometimes complained about her
own lack of a partner.
And their relationship
itself was wonderful, although it irked
Wesley that Gunn still refused to invite him to his flat. But he
could understand the notion behind his lover's refusal. The people
with whom he shared the apartment were Gunn's family and if he
thought about his own family, he could relate. He wouldn't want them
to know either.
Not because he was
ashamed of their relationship, but simply to spare himself the
rejection. His father had always made it plain to him, that no matter
what he did it wasn't good enough anyway. He could be top of his
class, win language competitions and become the youngest watcher in a
hundred years and it still didn't matter. The only thing his family
ever noticed were his failures and defeats.
The ringing of the
phone shook him out of his musings. “Wesley Wyndham-Price.”
Wes froze in shock,
when his father's voice greeted him at the other end. Unconsciously
straightening his back he wondered why he was calling now of all
times. Since he had been fired by the Watcher's council,
his family hadn't bothered to contact him at all. And as far as he
remembered there was no important anniversary in the near future,
that would warrant his father's call. Not that they would invite him
anyway.
“Father, what circumstances
warrant your unexpected call?” He was well aware of the fact,
that he sounded less than friendly, but his father probably wasn't
listening anyway.
“I have to conclude some
important business for the Council of Watchers.” Though his
father didn't say it, Wesley could hear the silent reprimand
concealed in the proper speech. No matter how often his family put
him down, it still hurt. “I will come to Los Angeles by the end
of next week. I hope that you have finally done better for yourself,
than working for that vampire.”
Having said his part
Harold Wyndham-Price ended the call, not even waiting for his son's
answer. Wes' sat at his table, disbelievingly staring at the phone,
the dialing tone ringing in his hears. His father hadn't even
bothered to ask him if he even wanted him to visit. Which he
definitely didn't.
Sighing Wesley rubbed
his temples, willing away the headache that had suddenly developed
there. His father would not even arrive until next week, but the
stress was already getting to him. He could
picture his father's distasteful look and
scathing remarks, when he introduced Gunn. Maybe he would at least be
happy that Angel worked for Wesley now, but the Englishman really
doubted it. He had been resentful about the
fact that his family had never called him, but now he desperately
wished that it had stayed that way.

A couple hours later
Gunn was getting really annoyed with his lover. Wes barely payed
attention to him, while he seemed to be brooding over an old demon
book. Gunn would have likely left him alone if not for the fact, that
he hadn't turned a single page during the last hour. And his eyes
didn't sparkle with curiosity like they usually did, when he read a
new book.
Finally fed up with the
situation Gunn plucked the book from the Englishman's fingers. He had
expected his lover to protest and babble about some important demon
he had to research, like he usually did,
but Wes just sighed and said nothing. Carelessly throwing the book
aside, Gunn spoke.
“Wes, what the hell is up with
you, huh?”
“Nothing, Gunn. I'm fine.”
But he knew his lover far too well to believe that for a single
second. Something was depressing Wes and he was going to find out
what exactly that was.
“Fine, my ass! Talk to me,
Wes.” Pulling his distraught lover onto his lap, Gunn captured
his lips in a sweet caress. His tongue swept along Wes' bottom lip,
that eagerly moved to allow him entry. Hopefully this would reassure
the Englishman enough to talk to him. Although he had become more
confident in their relationship, Wes still tended to keep things to
himself, which Gunn couldn't accept. If something worried his lover,
he wanted to worry about it too.
Breaking their kiss,
Wes finally began to talk.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He had told Gunn
everything. From his earliest childhood memories to the last days of
his watcher career. Things that he had never told anybody before. The
whole time Gunn's hand had stroked along his back.
Although he hated to be
weak in front of his lover it felt so good to finally be rid of all
the defeats he had suffered. Gunn had almost growled in anger, when
he told him about his father, his lover's protective streak almost
making him cry. What did his family matter anyway?
Gunn was right when he
said that Wes didn't need them anymore. He had a new family now.
Gunn, Cordy and even Angel were his family now. And aside from Angel
firing him, they were treating him much better than his real family.
When these thoughts registered in his mind, he smiled at Gunn for the
first time during the whole evening. He was loved now, so he
shouldn't give somebody who never loved him power over him.
His mood much improved
he grinned at Gunn, before placing a mischievous kiss to his lover's
lips.
