AN: This is my first fic on this site, and I would like to improve so send me lots of reviews!
“Xander,” Buffy said in her serious voice. “What you did was wrong. You hurt a lot of people. And it was incredibly inconsiderate. ”
Xander hated how mad everyone was at him. He also hated that they were scolding him like a child who had been naughty. Although he had to admit, his behavior was fairly childish. “Buff, you know I'm sorry, and I realize I'm an idiot, but this whole situation wasn't all cookies and cream for me either. As much as I thought having to run from every female in Sunnydale would just be buckets of fun-”
“Xander, shut up” Willow cut him off. “This isn't about you. You did this to yourself, so you have no right to complain, but more importantly, you hurt all of us! This is just like you, you're always so selfish!” Willow looked like she was on the verge of crying.
“Willow, that's not what I-” He cursed his habit of sticking his foot into his mouth.
“Willow's right,” said Buffy, with the same cold, stern look on her face.
Xander took a breath. He needed to think of what to say to make everyone realize how sorry he really was. Everyone was glaring at him. God, the looks they were all giving him made him want to disappear into dust. Willow stared at him with sadness and anger, and made him feel more guilty that he ever had in his life. Amy looked at him with utter contempt, and Buffy had a stern glare of disappointment that made Xander wish that the earth would just swallow him then and there.
Cordelia, on the other hand, sat up in her chair straight and poised, dressed to kill, with a blank expression on her face. He knew she only put up such a huge front when she was upset, but false bravado was still intimidating as hell.
“Guys, I couldn't be more sorry, really, but if you'll only forgive me-”
“Let everyone finish” Buffy interrupted. “I think it's best if everyone has a chance to speak their minds about what you did, and once everything we want to say is out in the open, we can think about forgiveness. ”
Silence. “Ok, I'll start, ” said Buffy. “Xander, I was very upset with what you did. I didn't enjoy being a rat very much. You made me punch Amy, I was naked in front of Oz, and I almost had sex with you, which made me feel very violated. ”
“But I stop-” Xander tried to object.
“Just because you stopped me before anything happened doesn't make it all ok. It would have been much worse if you didn't, but I don't think it means you're off the hook. ”
The shame was rising up in Xander. He never meant for anything like this to happen. To hear Buffy talk about how angry she was at him made him feel sick. He hung his head in his chair.
“Xander, you blackmailed me into doing a dangerous spell. I have a bloody nose because of you. And made me turn Buffy into a rat. You're probably the biggest douche I've ever met. ”
“I don't even have words to express how angry I am. ” Willow's words cut deep. “You can't just play with people's emotions like that, not to mention I almost killed people. Do you even realize how dangerous that could have been! But no, you just want to go on and toy with people's emotions like you own them. ”
Oh god, he thought. What have I done? “Willow, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean for any of this to-” he was close to tears now. He had never felt so ashamed of himself.
Everyone looked at Cordelia. Xander did not want to hear what she had to say. After all, she went through a lot because of this. And he had actually intended to hurt her.
“You know, I really thought at first, that you did the love spell because you had feelings for me. And you let me think that, until Amy told me the truth. And don't say you're sorry, and this isn't what you intended, because it is. Amy told me the whole thing. You wanted to humiliate me in front of everyone. You wanted me to be as miserable and as unpopular as you. Well congratulations it worked. If I had known how happy you'd be at seeing my friends try and murder me... I could have DIED! But you don't care about that at all do you. ” Cordelia was starting to raise her voice. Xander tried to interject but he was immediately cut off “Shut up! You're the most disgusting thing I've ever seen and I can't believe I was in love with you!”
Oh god she was in love with me. Xander felt horrible.
“So now you can talk, and we can all consider forgiveness” Said Buffy.
I need a time machine, he thought. I could just not do this. Why did I have to cast a stupid love spell in the first place. Stupid stupid stupid. What was I thinking?
“I'm so sorry. I never meant for this, I just wanted to be popular, I wasn't thinking, and I'll do anything for all of you to forgive me. I'll do anything. You all know I can be an idiot when I'm upset. I turn into a total buffoon. Buffy's a witness to that right Buff?” Xander took a breath. He was babbling again, and there were even a few tears forming in his eye sockets. He knew he'd stick his foot in his mouth again pretty soon if he didn't stop, but his guilt made him keep going. “I just had momentary insanity. Well, no, I didn't. Ok fine it was all my fault. But none of you feel more horrible than I do right now. That has to count for something. Please forgive me. You are all the best friends I've ever had in my life, ok, besides Amy, but that's just because I don't know you, and you're a super powerful witch and that's awesome. If I didn't have you guys I wouldn't have anything. I'll do anything for you all to forgive me. ” Xander was babbling again. He talked with enough speed that no one really heard every word he said. “You guys can punish me all you want. ”
“Okay” said Buffy. “As long as you're offering, we'll punish you until we all feel better. It may just be the thing to give a sense of justice to all of us and it might clear your conscious” Everyone nodded in agreement.
Why on earth did he use the word punish?
