Summary :- This came from a couple of plot bunnies/challenges I saw awhile back. I’m sorry I don’t remember where, but thanks for the ideas.
1)Tabula Rasa wasn’t the first time Willow cast memory spells on Xander, and they all broke with the crystal.
2)Xander has left Sunnydale at some previous point and they had no idea where he’d gone. Willow calls AI for help and Xander answers the phone.
This is set post Tabula Rasa BTVS and Ats Season 3 up to Billy, Darla never comes back and there is no Connor, mainly ‘cos he just doesn’t fit this story.

Prologue
Angel looked around the lobby of the Hyperion at the laughing faces of his friends. They’d just got back from another successful case and were still buzzed from the fight. He couldn’t believe how good his life had become, he had a family now; people who he loved and who loved him back. He’d finally come to understand that his fight for redemption didn’t have to be the only thing in his life, and that the Powers didn’t mind if he actually enjoyed himself, took time to appreciate what he had.
Gunn and Wesley were leaning against the counter, arguing good naturedly about which of them had killed the most demons, Gunn grabbing his axe to better demonstrate a move he’d been particularly proud of, whilst Wes recounted his version of events.
Cordelia was holding court from her usual position at her desk, calmly refereeing the fight whilst she prepared the bill for their satisfied client. No matter how many times they were disappointed she still lived in hope that they would wind up with at least a few clients who might be willing to pay up. He knew that she was keeping an eye on everyone in the room, and that if he didn’t go out and join the party soon, she’d come and chase him out of his office. There was no brooding allowed on Cordelia Chase’s watch.
Fred and Tara were giggling quietly together on the couch, surrounded by junk food. The two shy and gentle girls had found in each other kindred souls. Both traumatised by their old lives, they had slowly learned to trust that they wouldn’t wind up back in the dark of their past; now that they’d found a place where they felt safe, where they belonged, they’d blossomed into amazing young women. Fred had a mind that rivalled Wesley’s and a natural affinity for solving the cryptic prophecies and puzzles they so often found themselves faced with, not to mention an uncanny talent for manufacturing deadly and impressive weapons. Tara’s magic had made her an invaluable addition to the family, one of the first things she’d done on her arrival in LA was a series of spells; which slightly altered Cordelia’s body and mind, allowing the young Seer to receive her visions without the searing pain which used to accompany them. Tara had also been able to reverse the terrible damage the visions had previously caused to Cordelia’s brain.
Finally, sitting on the edge of Cordelia’s desk was Xander, his Xander. Sometimes Angel couldn’t believe how lucky he was that this man had come to love him. He was the one that bound all of them together, their centre. No matter how bad things got Xander could always find a way to get them through it. He was a natural strategist and whilst he might not have superhuman strength, years fighting at the Slayer’s side had honed him into a formidable fighter. It was his heart that held them together though, he loved them all, would do anything for them, and because of the fierce loyalty he’d shown them all, they’d come together as a family. They’d gone from a mismatched group of individuals to become an almost unstoppable force, even Wolfram and Hart had been taught not to come after them again. After what happened with Billy, they made sure everyone in LA’s underground world knew the terrible consequences of messing with any of Angel and Xander’s people. Angel wandered just how quickly he could persuade everyone to leave without Cordelia lecturing him for being rude. He loved them, he really did, but right now all he wanted was a private celebration involving Xander, lube and the first flat surface they could find.
The sound of the ringing phone cut through the noise in the room and Xander waved Cordelia away, picking up the receiver himself, “Angel Investigations, we help the helpless,” Cordelia had finally trained them all into answering the phone that way, but it had taken weeks for Xander to stop snickering every time he said it. Angel moved towards his lover, it was becoming obvious that whoever had called wasn’t saying anything as Xander continued talking into the phone, “Hello…..are you there?……It’s ok, you can talk to us….We can help you….” Wandering if whoever had called for help had been cut off or hurt before they could speak, Angel moved closer still, just close enough to hear the single softly spoken word from the other end of the call, “Xander?”
They both recognised Willow’s voice, Xander dropped the phone into Angel’s hand and hurried away. Plastering a smile on his face he headed for the couch and gathered Tara into his arms. Knowing she’d seen the look of fear and anger on his face, he began whispering quietly to her, trying to reassure her that nothing could go wrong, that he wouldn’t let anyone hurt her, not again. Outwardly Xander appeared calm and unfazed but Angel could see the tension in every line of his body and sense the almost overwhelming waves of anxiety coming from the younger man.
Damn, why the hell did this have to happen now, what they had was still so new, so fragile, he wasn’t sure either Xander or Tara would be able to cope with having the Sunnydalers invade their lives again. Staring at the receiver, wishing he could just slam it down, pretend the call never happened; Angel resignedly lifted it to his mouth, silently vowing to protect his family at any cost, he practically snarled into the phone, “Willow, what do you want?”
