This is for Electra’s challenge… though it may not make the deadline, we all know how slow I am. Will try to post the rest by midnight tonight but a girl’s got partying to do! Anyway, enjoy! And feed.
Part 1
Faith was feeling pretty damn good about herself. But then this time of year always brought out the happy that so often lurked beneath the Slayer’s dark façade of mystery. She couldn’t help the little hop in her step, the grin from spreading across, the dimple in her right cheek making an appearance.
It was October 31. Halloween, the time when anybody could be anything that they wanted, for just a night. When the rules of the world were temporarily forgotten, and no matter where you came from, you could be fuckin’ royalty, and no one could tell you different. Lifestyles of the rich and freaking famous even!
It was an idea that appealed greatly to Faith. Escapism, pure and simple. Yeah she had sat in on a few of B’s classes… so what? There was no where to sit in the hall!
Growing up in Southie, things were bad more often then they were not. But reguardless of how poor the family got, or how drunk her mother had been or how distant her father had become, they’d always manage to pull things together for a good night of fun and frights.
It was tradition damn it!
It was a little odd. In all her life Faith could only remember one merry Christmas, but even in her darkest of years things would always come together for a Happy Halloween. And this one might just be the best in a long time.
She was back in Sunnyhell. Eight months in a coma, another eight in juve, had given her a new out-look. Oh she was still the same Faith, bad girl to the bone… but her outlook had changed, the fear the pessimism had faded, it was replaced by a mature and quiet confidence, determination, and purpose. And she had to admit, It was good to be back!
She knew she had a long ways to go. Faith didn’t expect to show back up, fresh out of the pen and be greeted with open arms. The Scoobs were mostly showing a slightly chilly indifference to her renewed presence, with sporadic bursts of sarcasm and sometimes anger. But it had only been a month now, and it was getting better.
The thing that Faith hadn’t been prepared for, had in fact actually anticipated a great deal of bruising for, was the other slayer’s reaction. Faith had stepped off the bus, the stink of the jail cell still clinging to her skin, slung her small duffel over her shoulder and run smack into a smiling B.
She had been too stunned to do anything but give an uncharacteristic shriek of surprise. Which had only made the blond slayer grin wider. B had pushed the big round sunglasses she was wearing up to her head and crinkled her nose a bit
“You stink, Faith.” Had been the first words Faith had heard from Buffy in more than eight months.
“Yeah, well 18 straight hours on a bus can’t leave a girl summer fresh.” She had grinned back tentatively and watched the other girl nod. And then… THEN, B had done the strangest thing. She had picked up her bag, taken her HAND, and led her to the parked car. No deep discussions had occurred that day. They’d just gone back to Faith’s old apartment and got her settled back in.
No, the deep and meaningful all came later… was still coming in fact. They still had so much to work out. But the thing was, the UNBELIEVABLE thing was, they both wanted it to be worked out! The whole thing spun Faith’s head something serious.
But that was the other part of the reason she couldn’t stop smiling. She was heading to see the other slayer now. A crisp, clear Halloween night, a killer party to get to and B.
Faith couldn’t think of anything better!
She stopped to check out her reflection in the window of one of the campus shops. She had to admit she looked damn fine! She really lucked out on this costume. She adjusted her electric blue spiky wig as she honed her senses for a moment.
Not a vamp or demon around for miles! Just the sound distant heavy bas beats, and college students run-amuck. Yeah, Faith really loved Halloween.
With a final grin she turned and headed for B’s dorm.
===============================================================
Buffy was franticly running around her small dorm room. She was so totally running late and Faith would be there to pick her up any second. And where was the rest of her costume!?
Like most students of UCSD, Buffy had skipped most of her afternoon classes today in order to prepare for tonight. For some reason Halloween in Sunnydale was like Mardi Gras in New Orleans. You would think that these people had enough of all things goblin, considering the got a heavy dose on a near weekly basis. But Buffy wasn’t about to complain.
This was the yearly party of the century! If that makes any sense.
Preparations included, the gathering of select beverages, candy, a costume and of course sleeping. How else can you stay up all night if you aren’t thoroughly prepared?! It was of course this last step that placed Buffy in the situation she was in now.
Finally locating the final item of her costume she tied the hooded red cape around her neck and gave herself the once over in the mirror. She had to admit, she was looking pretty good. Maybe the skirt was a bit…or very short, but she doubted she’d be getting any complaints about that! Well, Will’s eyes might pop out for a second… But Faith would probably congradulate her for finally getting a little naughty.
The blond Slayer couldn’t help the grin that crept to her lips at the mere thought of the dark haired girl. She was also strangely surprised by the wave of butterflies that was suddenly consuming her. Buffy for the life of her couldn’t figure out where they were coming from though.
This was just Faith picking her up, just like every other night for the past month or so. Only difference they weren’t going slaying. They were hitting the party instead. Buffy was beyond excited. She had been so focused on the whole school thing and the slaying and the mystery militia She hadn’t had much time for fun.
Plus there was the whole Parker disaster. She wasn’t too big on running into him again.
But tonight was her night to really “throw down”. Buffy smiled as she started applying her eye liner, laying it on a bit heavier than usual. Just thinking about that conversation from earlier in the week was making her giddy. Orginally she wasn’t even going to go out tonight, but Faith had been more excited than she had ever seen her.
“B, I don’t think you truly appreciate the importance of this holiday!” Faith had been adamant during their training session. The dark slayer had looked up at her from the floor as she stretched her legs out.
“I appreciate plenty!” Buffy had defended herself, and sat down next to the other girl… not too close. “It’s an excuse to gorge yourself on candy, how can I not like candy?”
Faith had just rolled her eyes at that and reached for her outstretched foot. Buffy made sure not to notice the way her insanely short shorts rode up her thigh, exposing even more lightly tanned skin.
“It’s WAY more than just candy! It a chance to become something different! To be anything you wanted to be, B.” The eyebrows had been bouncing all over the place.
“Yeah Faith, I got a taste of becoming somebody else once on Halloween, F. Results? Not that great.” Buffy laid herself back on the mat and closed her eyes. If she couldn’t see Faith then she couldn’t think all those thoughts that she shouldn’t be thinking… right? She felt the other girl shift, and knew that Faith was looking down at her now.
“See, I heard about all that. You were going about it all wrong B!” She sounded so excited. “Its all in the attitude.”
Buffy took a chance and opened her eyes. And yup, Faith was right there grinning at her, all dimples and flushed skin and flashing eyes. Buffy swallowed, hard.
“So what’s the attitude?” She’d had to clear her throat a little before she could speak. God what the hell was wrong with her?
“On Halloween B, we’re free! We don’t have to think about Slaying or school or any other responsibility. We can do whatever the hell we want!”
Faith had beamed, but quickly lost her grin when she’d realized what she’d said. There had been several moments like this. When the dark girl would make a joke or say something that was just an inherent part of her character. But at the same time it would bring up those memories of not so long ago. She would catch herself, her mood would suddenly shift, and Buffy could practically feel the guilt coming off her in waves.
“N-not that… I mean, B I didn’t mean—” Faith had started again, her eyes unsure and Buffy couldn’t believe how much she instantly missed that glowing smile.
“Faith, its ok.” Buffy had laid a hand on her knee, her fingertips making subtle caresses unknowingly. “I know it’s not the same as before.”
She had tried her hardest to look reassuring and was rewarded as the light began to return to the other girls eyes. “So tell me, what should we do to get me into the spirit of things?”
To that Faith’s eyes actually sparkled! The mischief, the excitement was enough to make Buffy’s breath catch in her throat.
“Buffy…” Faith had leaned down, her lips a breath away from her ear, and all Buffy could feel was the heat that was flowing off the other girl. “We’re gonna throw down girlfriend.”
And that’s when the planning had begun. They were going to do costumes. Full out and edgy.
“None of that cutesy crap!” Faith had proclaimed. And then they were going to the biggest party of the year. The Sigma Pi’s, it was notoriously exclusive. Invitation only kind of thing. Buffy had heard about it every year, but never even attempted to get in.
Faith had managed to some how get invites for the entire Scooby gang! When Buffy questioned her how she managed it. Faith had simply replied. “Oh, I know a guy.”
A simple enough answer but the way she smirked and gave a little wink filled in enough blanks as far as Buffy was concerned. Plus, the hot pulse of jealously that had suddenly bloomed in her chest kept her from asking any of the details.
What was important was that they were all going! And her costume was hot! Xander had gone with her to pick it out. His jaw had hit the floor when she came out of the dressing room. Buffy’s hand paused in applying her lip-shine as she suddenly wondered if Faith would have a similar reaction. Did she WANT faith to have a similar reaction?!
And why the hell were Faith’s reactions all she could think about lately?!
Buffy’s reverie was broken by a sudden knock at the door, and those all too familiar trembles that chased themselves up and down her spine. She wanted Faith’s reaction? She was about to get it!
===============================================================
What the hell was taking B so long? Faith knew she was on time. She’d made damn sure of it. She was way past excited about this party. From what she’d heard planning had been in the works since the start of the semester. She didn’t want to miss a minute of it.
She tapped the glass bottle she had hidden in her jacket and bounced on the balls of her feet. She should have tried to get a little more slaying in, or maybe a workout before she came here…Faith was holding on to way too much energy.
“Come on B! Time’s a-wastin’!” She had just lifted her hand again, knuckles poised to meet the solid wood for a third time, when the door came flying open.
And there B stood. A swirl of red fabric and blond curls… and exposed skin. Lots. Of. Exposed. Skin. Jesus, Faith wondered if her jaw was actually on the floor. She hoped she wasn’t drooling.
“Hey Faith! Come on in, I’m almost ready.” B opened the door wider and spun around, heading back to her desk and mirror. Faith’s couldn’t stop her breath from hitching as her skirt flew up.
“Uh…You look great B. Wicked costume.” Faith strode in, after finally regaining her composure.
“Thanks! S-so do you.” Faith watched ad Buffy continued searching through a collection of lipstick. Had she even noticed her costume? B didn’t even seem to be looking at her at all.
“You think so?” She took the bottle of extremely overpriced alcohol from her jacket and set it on the other desk, and proceeded to look for glasses they could use. “I wasn’t sure about the get up. You don’t think its too subtle do you?”
Faith came up from the desk cabinet with two shot glasses. Huh, Red had shot glasses! She spun around just in time to catch Buffy raising her eyes from what Faith could only assume had been her ass. She watched unable to believe her own eyes as B’s flicked up, back to hers. The lingering pauses at her exposed stomach, and cleavage didn’t go unnoticed either!
“No! Not subtle, its good. You… good.” Ok Faith was feeling a bit more confidant now. Especially with the blush that was fast spreading across B’s cheeks, down her chest. “So what’s that?”
She pointed to the bottle.
“Something to get us started girlfriend.” Faith grinned, feeling her own cheeks flushed a bit, as she poured them each a shot of the amber liquid. She handed one to B.
“What is it?” She watched the other girl take a sniff, and temporarily lost her train of thought. She couldn’t get over how amazing B looked! Who knew little red riding hood could look so… naughty!? Sure she had teased Buffy, almost daring her to get a little risky, but she didn’t think the other slayer would take things quite so far.
Faith hoped they didn’t get arrested walking to the party. That skirt was definitely pushing the limits.
“Uhh… oh its tequila, Patrone to be more specific. The best stuff so you cant waste it by spitting if out!”
“That only happened once Faith, and you didn’t warn me!” Buffy gave her a pout, which would have been standard for “normal B” but in her current get up it just looked fuckin SINFUL
Faith downed her shot quickly and poured another. “Go on B, gotta catch up.” Faith said her breaths coming a bit quicker than usual. She watched from the corner of her eye as B threw back the shot… and immediately started coughing.
Now B could handle her booze, no doubt, she was a damn Slayer after all. It was just getting it in her that was the problem. Faith knocked back her second and felt her own eyes water just a tad.
“So where’d you get the costume Faith, it looks so authentic! Totally punk!” This time B poured her own. Faith was loving how the other girl was trying so hard not to ‘really’ look at her.
“Oh I lucked out for real B!” Faith took her third and felt the smooth liquid burn all the way down. Was it a little warm for October? “I saw this vamp right? Seen ‘em before, that Billy Idol wanna be chump.”
Buffy came up sputtering from her latest shot, her eyes round with surprise. “You got your costume from Spike!?”
“Huh? Yeah, that’s the guy. I see him and think. Damn this dude is totally stuck back in the day and I figure he’s got all kinds of shit. So I follow ‘em back to his crypt and dust his ass and ta da. A few modifications and that’s it.”
Faith did a slow spin, giving Buffy a chance to fully appreciate the ‘modifications’. Her costume, if she was honest, was just as likely to get them both arrested as Buffy’s was. A shredded LOW cut tank with the image of the Clash on the front, exposed not only her ample cleavage and hints of the deep red lace, but left her stomach bare as well.
The jeans were tight and tattered in the most dangerous places, riding low on her hips and the black leather jacket was covered in zippers and pins, but the best was the wig! An electric red that matched deep red of her bra, it spiked up all over the place. All that, plus her smoked out eyes and a single leather glove on her right hand, and Faith looked as if she stepped right out of a Ramones concert.
Faith finished her spin and met Buffy’s eyes again. They were wide and a little unbelieving. Plus there was something else there, something that made Faith’s hands shake a little as she downed yet another shot.
“Y-you dusted Spike?!”
“uhh yeah.” And for just a moment Faith was a little unsure again. Was there something she didn’t know about that vamp? Her worries wer quickly abated as B gave an indifferent shrug and picked up a little picnic basket off her bed.
“Sweet. Lets go Faith. The gang is supposed to meet us at the door.”
The each took another drink, taking turns pulling directly from the bottle. Liquid courage Faith liked to think as they headed out the door. And as Faith watched as Buffy strode in front of her leading the way in that tiny flirty nothing of a skirt, she couldn’t help think she was gonna need all the courage she could get.
