I've always enjoyed being a vampire. I mean, yeah, it sucked at first. (Really, no pun intended there.) You wake up trapped in your own coffin and have to claw your way to the surface while this hunger gnaws at your insides, making you virtually insane with need for food...for blood. But, once you get out of the ground and have had your first meal, things immediately start looking up.
Now, I know that a lot of you have noticed how most vamps tend to rise with their Sire's no where in site. It didn't use to be like that, you know. No, usually, the first thing you lay eyes on is your creator, smirking down at you, reeking of power and dominance. Personally, I think that the whole 'no Sire' thing is a Sunnydale rule of thumb. Because, while I've only been around for a mere century, I know I've never encountered it anywhere else in the world. To vampires, our bond with our Sire is one of the only bonds we cherish. Of course, that may also be the difference between a Childe and a fledgling. Me, personally? I'm a Childe. If I were a fledgling, I wouldn't have the common sense to be so insightful. In fact, I'd pretty much be going 'Want blood. Kill now.'
Which, of course, is what makes this so humiliating. Me, favored Childe of Mathais, making the ultimate mistake. One that is likely going to cause me my very unlife.
It all started out normal enough. I had been in Sunnydale for a few weeks, just visiting some old colleagues and generally enjoying my existence. I had kept a fairly low profile, not wanting to attract the attention of the infamous Slayer that I knew lived here. I had seen her in action a few times, the way the moonlight shone upon her face as she threw punches and kicks faster than even *I* could follow. She was a cute little thing, with this long hair that I'm sure was the color of the sun, even though I've nearly forgotten what it looks like, and this big hazel eyes. At least, I *think* they were hazel. I never really got close enough to find out for sure, what with the wanting to stay alive and all. And, while watching her always put me in the mood for a good fuck followed by some violence (usually with the same person), I still couldn't seem to understand what it was that has kept her alive for all these years. I mean, come on! Who's ever heard of a twenty-two year old Slayer? It just isn't normal.
Anyway, I digress. The point is, I was extra careful. I only snacked on people that I knew wouldn't be missed; the homeless and whatnot. I thought I was doing a great job, too. Until tonight.
The sun had set a few hours earlier and I had finally woken from my daylong slumber, unable to ignore my hunger any longer. I left my room to go in search of a meal, wanting to make certain I was full before leaving town to meet my Sire in San Francisco. So, I walked down the street, ignoring the large groups of teenagers milling in front of the Bronze. Not only is it difficult to snag one human away from others, but I've found that lately, I just don't have the taste for the strong odors of perfumes and such that most young girls wore. I was *just* about to give up and head towards the college campus, when I saw her.
She was young, maybe fifteen or sixteen, with long brown hair and these bright blue eyes. She was crossing the street, an angry look on her face, her long legs moving her quickly through the darkness. I knew she looked familiar, but I couldn't quite place where. Silently, I approached her, a smile on my face. Now, I know that it's been a *very* long time since I've been able to see my reflection. However, I know that I happen to be handsome. So, imagine my surprise when she barely acknowledged my presence.
After a few attempts at pleasant conversation, only to be politely but firmly shot down by Little Ms. High and Mighty, I finally decided to hell with seduction. Morphing into my true face, I grabbed her around her waist, dragging her into a nearby alley. Inhaling deeply, I felt my cock surging to life at the smell of her fear. Of course, her squirming around wasn't helping much, either. Spinning her around, I pressed her against the wall, staring into her terrified eyes. Smirking, I pressed myself against her, debating on having some fun before draining her. However, before I could make my decision, I felt a hand on my shoulder and was sailing through the air, slamming into a dumpster.
Jumping up, I glanced around, my eyes widening as I saw the Slayer standing in front of my prey, checking the girl over for any wounds. I was utterly confused, until the blonde's angry words reached my still-ringing ears.
"Are you *insane*? You know better than to go outside after dark, Dawn! Every vamp in town would love nothing more than to use you to get to me!"
Suddenly, I became aware of just how much trouble I was in. Unknowingly, I had attempted to kill the Slayer's little sister. Fearfully, I stared at the annoyed face of the teenage girl who had invoked the protection of Spike, one of the most feared vampires in history. Rumor had it she wasn't really human, that she had been the focus of some Hell God a few years back. However, no one knew exactly why.
Shaking my head, I decided that the wisest course of action would be to leave town as quickly as possible. Turning the opposite direction of the Slayer, I froze in my tracks. It was *him*. The only son of Angelus and Darla, the Miracle Child who had found his way back from Hell, just as his father had. Connor or Steven, the name didn't matter. All I knew was, he was standing in front of me, and had a look of pure rage on his face. Of course, that's when I remembered an *extremely* important piece of information.
Dawn was his.
Which brings me back to the present. While the Slayer and her kid sister are busy arguing over who is going to stake me, I'm busy getting my ass kicked by a boy whom, by all accounts, shouldn't even exist. I continue to blindly swing at him, although I never actually make contact. Suddenly, I'm pressed against the alley wall, his iron-like grip holding me in place, and I know that I'm finished.
Leaning close to me, he whispers in my ear, "I saw the way you looked at her, touched her. You're going to pay for that. No one looks at her like that but me." Then, there's a searing pain in my crotch, and I'm suddenly aware just how much of his parents he has in him because this mere boy has just castrated me using nothing more than his bare hands. And the truly frightening part? He was smiling the entire time.
I know that I'm screaming. However, the sound has yet to reach my ears due to his hand, which is coated in my blood, covering my mouth. Finally, after a few agonizing minutes, I feel something embed itself in my heart. He steps away and I glance down at the stake protruding from my chest.
Looking back up at him, the last thought I have before I become dust is: I don't know where the name 'The Destroyer' came from, but he certainly lives up to it.
The End.
