Reviews for Paths Chosen

First and the most important fact is....NO RAPE WAS COMMITTED.......so he is not a rapist.......

Angelus was a serial killer who got off more from planning his kills and seeing them take form....where Spike was thegs ags and fist and in it for the violence....did anyone watch the 5th season of Angel.......the part right after Spike was recovering from Dana.....

ANGEL made Spike the true evil he had become......before Angel I'm sure Spike and Dru would have had their heyday of blood bath and such, since she was also a pupil of the might A. A. But I don't think they would have been the force they where if not for Angelus education of how to be the most evil you could be......

Spike was less evil without his soul then Angelus was.....and both Spike and Angel proved to be on the right side of good and evil....with Spike I think more then Angel, since Angel with his soul allowed Darla and Dru loose in the office with the lawyers.....

But to be a rapist you have to commit the act, which he attempted but was stopped by Buffy. There is also a fine line if you wish to look at the scene....thier relationship started during an act of violence......he had gotten mixed messages....from Buffy and also with Dawn giving him the impression Buffy cared enough that what happened between him and Anya mattered to her enough it hurt......

Not only that.....what woman in her rimindmind would take her sister to her would be rapist to protect her......that is what pissed my off at the beginning of season 7 when all of a sudden they had Buffy feeling all scared of him......when afterwards she was okay to leave her young impressionable sister's life in his hands.........

Buffy was more abusive then Spike ever was if you counted the abuse she doled out on his body and mind...... Not only that you can't over look that for a vampire Spike held back until th........it started with his pain all bottled up coming out at once and his could not hold back, yes it was wrong....but it had more believabilty then how Buffy could only feel when she screwed the vampire and lead him on....kept coming back and fucking with his love for her.......Nothing is ever just black or white if you have the entire story to give reasons that cause some to go over the edge and give you a deeper understanding to why they lose control.........some weakweak.....I say that everyone has their breaking point....some are lucky and never have their limit pushed to the max.....and then their are others that you wonder how the hell they made it back.......or how they lasted as long as they did.......

You can't judge Spike or Angel for what they did before their souls...only since becoming souled....and so far......and you can't compare the two even then....casue one has a 100 years on the other one......But Spike's love for Buffy cannot not be questioned....how else do you explain him overcoming the first in the cellar and saving Buffy instead of killing her......He showed his guilt for what he had done, even knowing he was not in control....and accepted he was to die......

Buffy and Spike was tortured in season 6 in their relationship.......both did wrong things to the other....neither one was worse then the other....but equally bad.......the fact remains.....the Vampire showed more remorse and apologized to the girl....the girl never showed remorse or apologized to the vampire.......He died for her....and she moved on to another demon.......the Immortal....and she had a chance now for a normal life....LOL, nope went for another demon.......She turned out to be just a demon kinda girl.......LOL.

The attempt rape was wrong on ME's part and never should have been done......I personally think that Joss was getting tired of Spike's popularity, and had not planned on the Spuffy shis tos to almost over take, if they hadn't the Buffy/Angel......why else would the TV guide not publish the poll that was taken who should Buffy end up with.....Spike or Angel......LOL, I always wondered what the poll said.....and I know a few groups have asked the same question.....The closest Joss ever came to acknowledging Spuffy was recently he said that he had left the parts between Spike and Buffy open so people could imagine what they wanted to have happened between them.....

    Kimber

Oh and btw....the story was interesting.....and some times you wondered about Buffy's santiy....LOL

Kathryn, You're right about the attempted rape. It was actually an admitted attempt on the part of ME to make Buffy look better. They tried to make Buffy the victim in order to magically erase all the abusive behavior she had done. It doesn't mean she deserved to be attacked but neither did Spike. Spike at least didn't show up with the intention to attack , he showed up to apoligize for something Xander and Buffy had given up the right to feel put out by. Spike at least admitted his wrongdoing and did something in order to make amends, Buffy never did. So in many ways , they were unsucessful. The only thing they did was to give the rabid Spike haters ammo and to make it where we can see the Buffy's behavior in this story as entirely plausible.

"Look like the innocent flower but be the serpent under't."

Another chilling and nightmarish chapter. Eerie and efectise ose of quotes from the show, drenched in an atmosphere of a blood. A prophecy-driven heroine in her indomitable ascent to power becomes an insecure , psychotic and utterly ruthless leader taking bloody delight in her invincibility, yet torn by her deadly desire for forbidden lovers. This is a darkly mature story and not for the reader unwilling to stretch his/her boundaries. Like a spider, Buffy spins webs (and plots) ensnaring the guilty with the innocent. A believable explanation of why "Chosen" happened.

A fascinating, and honest, exercise in following one possible set of motivations. One of the benefits of such an open ended finale. This takes everything inton consideration, and therefore is not just a trick. It doesn't leave anything out to further it's point of view.
It brings back the old dichotomys. For someone like myself, who would have been Spuffy had that point of view been logically allowed, it's quite sad. I think that they made a terrible mistake when they wrote the attempted rape into the story. Those two characters were no longer reconcilable, and viewers were tempted to choose between them. If Muant Enemy had been open minded and aware, they would have known what would happen if they did choose. (And they should have known better than to try to manipulate viewers.)
When the writers brought Angel back in the last episode(s) they again forced a choice to believe Buffy loved Spike, or to believe that Buffy lovngelngel. However here we see the painful logic involved in Buffy loving Angel. It was a very unsatisfying end. Most of us (I believe truly a majority) were happy and relieved when Angel reunited the two vamps, easy to love together, and left Buffy's fickle affections unresolved.
I think that if they decide to bring Buffy back, they will have to resolve some hard issues. Right now, I would be willing to bet that a poll would show that most viewers would rather see Angel and Spike continue on than any combination with Buffy. Here is your problem Mutant Enemy, should you choose to solve it. But you don't really have to do you?

If Spike is guilty of his pre soul crimes, then so is Angel. Be consistent. You can't say that Angel is innocent of his presoul crimes and Spike is guilty no matter what . It doesn't make sense, and anyone who insists on a double standard like this is making themselves look bad.

In this story , I see a Buffy who is so locked inside her blind views of the world that she is willing to commit murder in order to protect those views. In doing this she is also dragging Angel away from being good. From your reviews, I can see that your views are just as blind as Buffys.Buffy needs to open her mind to logic so so do you. You don't have to be a Spike fan , just don't be such a blindly rabid Spike hater.

I get what you're doing, I really do. Great!

Very clever, I love it! Never got the impression you were trying to hide your bias, either. And you ticked off Anamoly, so you really go the job done!

Hmm, this is not really the quality I expected after reading some of your lovely essays. Even if you're trying to just slag on Buffy, it's not all that well formed. And also, aff.net is a very Spuffy place, so for your story to be more well received, it would need to be a bit more light and tongue in cheek.

This story had potential but was way to choppy. The scenes and thoughts failed to flow evenly. It seemed pasted together.
