"Vengence" is a story of death, changes, memories and love.

Jameschick's old fans won't be let down by this fiction. In fact, it might be the most beautiful she ever wrote.

As always, Jameschick gives us an intense, involving, original plot, on the basis of which she builds graceful but strong arches of irony, tenderness, suspance and sometimes plain passion. And still, you never get the feeling of a lame excuse for a sugary, sappy romance: every single moment of gentleness, of love, even of sexual tension, every caress, every embrace, every kiss is justified, fits perfectly in the developing of the story, not interrupting it, but flowing along, even sustaining it.

We can't wait for a moment of passion between the two old enemies, now friends who want to be more, and at the same time we can't wait for the story to open to us, revealing the solutions to the two tormented but not tragic characters's doubts, fears and esitations, hoping that everything comes to an happy end, and still wishing that the story would never end.

The changes that Xander and Spike have to cope with, tragic and at the same time convenient, entwine themselves in a whirlpool of identities that the two men have to disentangle, but not destroy: the double identity of the immortal human and of the souled Vampire, the first no longer as innocent as before, the second a lot more innocent than he was in years, is nothing but the first of a set of Chinese Boxes, which once opened seem to reveal something concealed in a deeper layer of conscience and, why not, existence.

Xander is not a boy anymore, he has suffered and has been deluded by the world and most of all by his bestest friend, and had to see the ones he loved suffer and die, or fade away consumed by the time: and still, this man who shouldn't trust anything or anyone ever more, who hasn't duties toward anyone, is gentle not only with the souled counterpart of his old nemesis, but even with the Vampire himself, even after he's hurt him in the most grave of ways. Alex looks for Spike, when Xander just wanted him to disappear, because, ironically, Spike who hated him and whom hate was returned is the only thing that keeps the hatred Xander from fade away forever.

Spike, Wil, is now released from the leash of his chip, but, as always, once he's achieved his goal, he doesn't care anymore, a new hunger having born within him. this because, despite what he declared to Angel once, things change, and he's changed along. Wil is falling in love with Alex, but wants his demon to be fixed: and once Spike comes back, Wil is trapped in a dark limbus, while his alter-ego kills his beloved one. And then, Spike will have to trust the man he's hated for years and who has disappeared for a lifetime, just to be back for the Vampire to kill him. And how tender is the brief but serene convivence between Spike and Wil, Demon and Soul.

It's rare that a story is this involving, and that it makes you beg for more so much; but we don't have to be amazed by this, for this is just the magic Jameschick gives us everytime. But never as much as this time.

We crave for more. And more. And more.

Thank you for your gift, Jameschick, and keep giving!!!

Ok when I finally discovered that there was more archived here then the prologue, I just read it all through. I really like your depiction of William and it's interesting what you have done with Xander under the circumstances. I get the impression that like me you're a hopeless romantic and that's always going to tug at my heart strings. It's a great story and I like the fact that you are making us wait for the slashy parts. A good story build up and a good plotline. I've just quesquestion, when can I have some more?
