Honest....I had mentioned in my post yes I understood that it was fanfiction.....but having been involved in other fandoms and writing in them I know that alot of readers take you at your word....for they think that you have researched, or have some knowledge of what you write......Being a health care provider that deals with the treatment of rape victims I just felt the urge to point out that in RL.....he would have been treated no matter what, in truth Rape Crisis adovcates no longer testing the victims for the STD's, because in court it could be used against them....it is now and always has been standard practice of ALL rape victims to be treated for ALL STD's, blood tfor for a baseline HIV, and Syphillis.....women are offered the morning after pill to prevent pregnancy not to do any of this is a sfor for malpractice and the Doctor would pay big time and he would be reported to the board of mine.ine......Unless the victim refuses said treatments would they not get done.....No I did not write it to critize you or your writing or ask you to change your story.....just to let the one person that would have walked away with a false belief did I mention what I did. You would not believe the people that come to where I work that have misconceptions of STD's.....and some are very intelligent people that still walkway way in shock and denial that their loved one cheated on them.....So I hope no hard feelings.....and I am looking forward to more of your work....I just won't try and get so personally involved next time.

I'm such a nancy boy...er nancy girl. I feel I owe Kimber an apology for my rather sarcastic reply. I was pissed off already when I read the review. I had a little tiff with the rude cashier at Drug Mart when I was getting my son some diapers and cold medicine (he is sick) then I stopped at Wendy's for dinner and my arch nemisis from highschool was working the drive thru. I don't think she recognized me but if she did, they probably spit in our food. Stupid Cow. Anyway..I didn't mean to discount your words, Kimber. I did research the disease and there were pages and pages of information. I just took bits and pieces to put in the story. I could have added more to make it more factual but that really wasn't my priority at the time.
I have two other stories going consecutively now but at a later date I had already intended to go back through HW and revise it.... so I can add more factual details then.
But still, over all, this is just Spuffy fanfiction. I'm not going to win the Pulitzer Prize or anything for it and no one who reads it should be taking any of it as fact.

Sorry. I would bribe your forgiveness with naked Spike but s mis mine. :-)

A/N: Kimber, while I commend your cause, let me state again, this is fantasy fan fiction. I'm not writing a non-fiction book on STD's. Nor am I a medical doctor or an expert on STD's Neither do I have personal experience with being infected with one, that being said, I had to take author's license to fit the issue into the rest of the story. I would not have even included the issue in the story but I felt it brought more realism and angst to the kind of life that Spike led. I am absolutely aware that certain details in my story may not be factually accurate in RL and I would care to wager that the majority of readers are intelligent enough and have enough common sense to know that many things in fiction do not or could not happen in RL. Furthermore, Spike commented about the "bloody incompentant" doctors not finding out he had it when he was admitted to the hospital. I put that in there purposeYes,Yes, he was SUPPOSED to be tested but he wasn't, hence Buffy being the one to find out at a later time. I didn't merely overlook that area. Yes, I took artistic license with the timeframe.
If there is someone out there stupid enough to take my spuffy fan fiction as scientific fact on STD's then...well...I guess I owe everyone an apology and should edit my story to remove that substory line.

I certainly wouldn't want to be the cause of some unfortunate soul not getting their STD treated becauf mef me. Cough.

    Hi

Great ending.... I only have one pet peeve, he would not have infected her.....ONE of the first rules of treating Rape victims is treating for the 2 most hightest form of sexually transmitted diseases Chlamydia being one of them.....so He would have left the hospital with the antibiotics already given....and told to have protected sex for the next 6 months to a year because He would have had HIV testing through out that time, especially being a high risk player and victim......Also the men have symptoms of buring with urination and yellow discharge from their penis with in 3-7 days after exposure, and his anus/colon/intestine would have been inflamed.....and after a couple months Buffy would have had pelivic inflammatory disease symptoms and really in pain. It's only a week or two at the most that the woman will have symptoms with yellow vaginal stinky discharge....and lower abdomnial pain. So if she became infected after Spike came home, then most who understand the disease and the process of taking care ofe vie victims would be looking at her and saying....."Yeah, and the world is flat and you live in a world of peace and harmony." I know this is fanfiction.....but something as important this, the ER nurse and Rape advocate in me had to say something so others might not get the wrong idea.......

Neither of them were very prepossessing characters - a boy toy male hooker and a rich girl picking up a john, but it turned out to be a real fun ride. Thanks!

Oh!!! I'm so glad I stopped cleaning house and rushed back to see if you posted the epi! Yeah...great idea about the STD and all, glad it wasn't something like AIDs/HIV though. Thank you, whew!

The part about the painting was just lovely.

I read this story, in it's entireity (well not the epilogue of course!) today, just now. Never read any of it before so you can see once I started it, I was caught up in it, completely. I'll try to explain why this particular story was so poignant for me.

You've captured the characters so completely, so on canon to their characters in the show that it made me realize what my fan fics are lacking. It amazes me that writers like you can take fantasy characters from a TV show, keep their basic personalities and reactions to situations intact, but write completely make their plots AU or human. Spike's 'redemption' from his sordid past is remarkable, as is Buffy's 'helping, loving' nature. I'll never believe that the Buffy in BTVS was non-loving or incapable of it. I feel that as much as I disliked much of season 7, it showed Buffy's love and trust for Spike in so many non-physical ways. But that's my opinion only. What I see in your story, is a remarkable talent to takeost ost souls' in life and turn their lives into redeeming, stable and content/happy situtations through love, caring and connection.

Thank you and I can't wait to read the epilogue.

    Luv, Spuf

A/N: White Rabbit is correct re: fan fiction and the land of fantasy, however, I purposely pointed out that the john Spike had sex with didn't wear a condom, for a reason. The story isn't finished yet so please be patient before jumping to conclusions. :-)

very good point that kimba made about the safe sex...but lets remember this is the world of (fan fiction) or (fan fantasty) where for the purpose of the story certain things don't always aplly. As they do AND should in real life. Fan fiction is pure escapeism from the harsh realities of life, it's why i read it! surely it's why we all read it!!!
