Ok... please bear with me. I've decided not to reply to reviews in the fic anymore, because quite honestly, I really feel that it detracts from the story. However, I shall valiantly attempt to reply to certain reviews here at the review board. *ahem*

    In reply to "anon":

Yes, I understand that this is an AU fic. However, my plotline is based on the characters from BTVS, how would they react in a certain scenario? I feel that Spike would drink whiskey or any other hard liquor if living in the US. While I certainly admit that I have not developed Spike's early beginnings in America in this fic, I think that I got across the fact that he was in Sunnydale for his High School years. I also tryed to portray Spike as more of a "badass", and that entails some drinking. Most teenagers do some drinking at parties while in high school - at least they do here in the US - and most certainly they would drink whiskey if given no other option. I am also of the sound opinion that Spike would probably drink whatever was handy in any given situation.

As to the age "ambiguity" in my story... In the very beginning of the fic, I wrote that Buffy was a freshman in high school while Spike was a senior. In the summary of my fic and also as the header to the first chapter it say "Four Years Later." If Buffy was fifteen at the end of her freshman year and four years had passed, that would make her nineteen. I have not specified when her birthday is, but I did say she was twenty. Her birthday has passed, obviously. Being a graduating Senior, Spike would have been eighteen. Four years later would make him twenty-two, or if his birthday had passed, twenty-three. Where is the discrepency in that?

Heehee... anti-alcohol culture? Yeah, right. While it is true that parents and leaders highly dissaprove of drinking under the age of twenty-one - there are strict laws against it - teenagers seem to find endless ways to get around it over here. The big thing to do in any town is pretty much... get wasted. Sad, but true. Kids will drink anything they can get their hands on here, and that is probably the source of this argument. Because it is so hard to acquire alcohol, anyone under the age of twenty-one will make free use of anything they can get, from wine coolers to whiskey. I don't doubt that in England, he probably didn't drink Whiskey. However, to be exceedingly clich?, when in Rome...

I feel completely silly replying to this, but I just don't feel that I'm wrong on this point. And while I understand the fact that you were trying to offer advice, it came across as harsh criticism. I work hard to post fic here, and it's very discouraging to read things like that. I don't mind if you want to comment on that stuff, just at least say something nice while you're at it. OK? I hate fighting about stuff like this. I'll try harder to make my story more believeable in further chapters.

    Thanks,

    Okay,
I should be reviewing this story on the basis of the quality of the writing. So I'll do that first and then have my rant.

I am really enjoying this story - I enjoy the 'will they, won't they' element and that they do but...it still doesn't work out! I love the fact that the Spike/Buffy by-play isn't the end of the story, that each time I think they've got it sorted something else intrudes and their doubts get thrown to the foreground. The mulitplicity of this tale is wonderful and I always look forward to the frequent updates.

So..here's the rant. I've read the recent authors notes and can't help thinking WTF! I am British, I am a whisky drinker and I come from a family of whisky drinkers. My grandfather prefered blended Scotch, my father prefers American sour mash, my mother likes Irish whiskey and I like Scotch malt. There is no fixed choice. It's a matter of personal taste. And judging a story on its whisky contents is utter bollocks.

I thi this story, I am unconcerned by Spike's choice of booze and anyone who is is really missing the point. Rant over.

I LOVE this story! i've been laughing toelf elf at the clever ways the characters have been twisted, while still remaining true to their Buffyverse selves. Innocent, geeky Buffy is totally believable, and it's interesting to see Xander as a true older brother. Spike and Buffy have such an amazing chemistry, and i cannot wait to see how this ends!!! Hopefully there will be many more chapters!!!!

Lovely story. It is interesting to see Buffy as a bookworm who makes some life changes, rather than Spike/William doing that.

    I am really enjoying this.

    Keep it coming.

The author said: "Spike drinks hard liquor on BTVS. I can reference several episodes in which he HAS done this, including Lover's Walk - Spike drinks for nearly the entire episode, Life Serial - Spike and Buffy drink out Spike's flask, and Seeing Red - Spike adds liquor to his blood. I'm sure there are MANY other episodes where Spike drinks as well. As to the idea that people don't drink whiskey until well past their early twenties, that is preposterous. Maybe "William" didn't drink whiskey, but Spike was with his Irish "friend" Angelus for well over a century after being turned. I myself am a college student living in a college town. I know FAR too many people who drink whiskey and they are ALL in their early twenties. I hope this answers your question."

Sorry, now you are confusing the actual Buffyverse with your AU. Yes, Spike the vampire drinks hard liquor. I don't believe it's ever bestabstablished whether it's whisky or whiskey but as you rightly point out he did spend a lot of time with Angelus so would almost certainly have been introduced to whiskey (ie the Irish sort). I don't dispute that the "real" Spike drinks hard liquor. But in your AU Spike is neither a vampire nor is he over 140 years old. He is human. He is English. He does not hang out with Angel. He is twenty something although his actual age isn't clear. There is an ambiguity. The early chapters would appear to have him leaving the US to spend three years in the UK. How old would he be on graduating high school in the US - 18 or 19? So that seems to make him 21 or 22 now although Buffy's age is mentioned as being 20 in one of the later chapters. So, that should make him 23. But whatever. The point I was making was that human Spike would be unlikely to have had the opportunity to develop a taste for whisky or whiskey. Let's face it, in the US he'd hardly have had the chance to drink beer never mind spirits with the anti-alcohol culture which prevails over there. Had he grown n Enn England he'd probably have been drinking beer with his mates in the pub. His dad might have given him whisky at home but probably not whiskey. If he went to university in England he'd most probably have drunk beer at parties. Spirits are just too expensive for students to afford on a regular basis.

I don't doubt you've spent a lot of time on writing this fic. I was trying to be helpful in pointing out something I thought you'd overlooked. I think the story would work better if you had Spike say to the bar tender something like "I'm not drinking that piss water you lot call beer. Gimme a whisky."

Okay I'm enjoying this fic. But I want to you to realise 1 thing. If people are busy worrying about little things like the drinking of whisky and nothing like bad writing, plot holes, bad character development etc, then you're on to a really good thing. Because if silly things bother them, then everything else is completely dandy:-)

A cookie? Can I have a Spike shaped Cookie with it being anatomically correct? Teehee. I love this story. Come on you know you want to give us more. And all those nit picky people about younger people drinking whiskey are just nit picking. I'm 25 and know quite a few younger people drinking it. Personally I don't care for it, but that doesn't mean others don't.
